Project file disappeared while working!!!!

Hello, l work on a double dual core 3ghz intel mac, 8 gig of ram and a load of disk space (2 tera). Good machine. I've been editing on a network drive (full of space and very quick, far enough for sp DV, wich is the format I'm on). Now everything is working fine, no problem of anykind, files where captured on a local drive so no problem with a 2 gig file limitation. So all cool... but then suddenly while working, I choose to save my project (save) and the system tells me "file error". Impossible to save on the original location on the network. When I browse to the folder where the project is, the file has disappeared... Now the funny part comes: if I look at the same folder on an other machine, either mac or
PC, I can definitely see the file!! It's there (good to know it's the old version, before the save and error message, so it wasn't saved at all when the problem occured). It's there but on the machine from wich I had the problem it isn't!!!! It's the second time this arrises, first time I thought "that's odd", but now it seems to me as a major issue. Hopefully when the problem came, after the "file error" message I could still save the project in another location, so I didn't loose any work - if this happens to you.
Did anyone experience this very annoying and worrying situation? Is there a solution?
Many thanks!
Raphaël Grana
PS almost forgot: if I disconnect the network drive and then reconnect it, the file is available again...

Hello
I think I am in the middle of a similar problem and I am not on a network. This was also going aon a few months ago.
I would save the project and it wouldn't show up in the finder (even though I was sitting there using and working the project) or I would try to save and I would get a warning such as Unknonw file or general error.. So I would save a new version which would be fine, then that wouldn't save, and so on.... And yes if I closed the finder window and reopened it the file I saved would sometimes appear. I really couldn't figure it out. It happened on a few projects but I couldn't see any rhyme or reason.
Eventually I reloaded FCP and all the updates again. Everything was going fine. Until last night. First I couldn't save (got the unknown file message) and then.... (arround the same time) One of my Hard drives lost all but one locked (Indesign) file!!! 148GB of media (FCP,quciktime, renders, etc) files, no warning! poof! gone! The drive was still there and passed all verification and didn't need any repair (using disc utility), all the info was gone! And I never touched it! Interestingly, I don't believe the project I was working on at the time had much to do with the Drive that lost everything. But the project I opened up just after the save problem occured did. When it opened with all of it's media "offline" (which had definitely been there earlier in the day)I discovered the disc issue.
OK, don't know if that helps, yes I've experienced similar but don't have the answer, yet.
Good Luck!

  • Encore project file DISAPPEARS

This happened to me twice today. The first time I thought I made a mistake but happening twice makes me think it's a software issue. Luckily I had the saved file from end of day yesterday and the changes I made today were minimal.
I made changes to a Blu Ray project in Encore. I burned the disk and everything seems fine. When I save and quit, the project file disappears. GONE! The only reference to it anywhere on the computer or external drive is the project is in the recent items list from the Apple menu (and my backup drive but that is from yesterday).
I'm running CS5 and the latest version of OSX.

    Welcome to the forum.
The first thing that I would check, and in depth, would be your complete I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's and your controller. This should never happen, and Adobe programs are usually very careful to NOT directly affect any existing file on the system.
Any other anomalies with regards to files and folders?
You mention externals. Are any USB? Read/write errors are common, when working to/from those, though they function nicely for archiving - just not when working to/from.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Project Files Disappear

Without any rhyme or reason, our Premiere Pro and some After Effects project files are disappearing.  We will save our project to our project folder on the NAS and an hour or two later the file will be gone. This has happened 5 or 6 project files already.  Why is this happening?  And how can I make it stop?  We've lost quite a bit of work even from going back to auto-save files.

I think we have discovered the issue.  We have an SNS EVO shared storage system.  Part of it is setup as a SAN and part is setup as a NAS.  We store footage on the SAN and project files on the NAS.  It turns out, the clock on our EVO was getting out of sync.  It had to be set manually because our EVO server is not connected to the internet for security reasons. So it didn't have a clock or time server to get the date and time from.  So over time, the clock went out of sync from our edit machines.  Because of this, whenever we would save project files, the machines saving them knew the correct date and time but the NAS had a completely different time.  So when saving the file it would overwrite the currently saved file but then it wouldn't be able to save the new copy because of time issues.  So we had to setup one of our machine to serve the time directly to the NAS.  Now the clocks sync up and we haven't lost a project file in a few days.  I'm still monitoring it closely but it looks like the problem is resolved.
I know I did a terrible job of describing that.  Basically... it looks like it wasn't a Premiere issue, but rather an issue with our NAS.

  • Project file disappeared

My project file I just saved a few days ago is gone, and the only version left is older and it won't even open. It just says "could not open project file." It was on one of my external hard drives and should STILL be there. I'm sorry I can't give more info but its really baffling. does anyone have any suggestions?

    1. Do a search for the project name in case you accidentally saved it somewhere else.
    2. Try opening one of the more recent auto saves. (or is that what you meant by "the only version left"
    3. Exactly what error message do you get when trying to open the project version you do have (or one of the auto saves?)
    4. Did you do any software upgrades after last working on the project?

  • Prores renders disappearing while working in project. Please Help?

    Hi There,
I am having a problem when I render a sequence, creating all the video preview files and as i continue to work on the sequence, or task switch and come back to that sequence, the render files are disappearing (ie. going from green to yellow or red) and having to be re-rendered before export.
    General
    Editing mode: Custom
    Timebase: 29.97fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 1920h 1080v (1.0000)
    Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
    Fields: Upper Field First
    Audio Settings
    Sample rate: 48000 samples/second
    RENDER:
    Quicktime
    Prores422
    1920x1080
    Max Render Quality (Checked)
    Composite in Linear Colour (Checked)
Footage being rendered and going offline is prores422 1080i60 from an EVS XT-3 with a three way colour correction, and brightness/contrast filters on it
I am trying to work in an end to end prores workflow with the EVS XT-3 (hence the necessity for prores all the way through)
    Preview files:
    Prores422
I am running Premiere Pro CC on an AFP connected NAS over gigE (jumbo frames enabled on all components, Mac Mini running OSX server 10.8 fibre connected to a Sonnet RAID)
Have tried with projects set on local drive and also on NAS.
It appears to be something with the generation of peak files that is throwing the renders off each time? Even when you re-render. They then appear to go back offline.
Any help or ideas would be great!
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi smith,
Something tells me that the files are getting confused. If new times are written into the regeneration of peak files by the server, then those files cannot be relinked. I'll look around for some answers, I know I have heard about this problem before somewhere.

  • Current project disappeared while working in PS Touch ...

Today i started a project on PStouch and suddenly all disappeared and the tutorial side opened. And there is no access to my old projects.
I try to upload them before on the cloud but this takes to much time and there are format problems.

If you are in a Tutorial you might just advance through to the end and then choose not to save.

  • Project file disappears after iMovie crashes. Can I recover the file?

Working on an iMovie 9.0.9 project when the SBOD starts up and then the program crashes. I reopen iMovie but when I attempt to open the file it  no longer shows up in the Project folder window. The file still appears in the iMovie Project folder on the external hard drive were it was stored, just not within the program. Attempts to recover the file from Time Capsule backup result in the file opening with no content. All attempts to open it from that folder result in nothing showing up. This is the second file I have lost  in the last week. I've been working on this project for several days and have been able to open the file each time until the crash. Never had this problem before I updated iMovie in mid-May.
I'm running  an iMac Early 2008, with  2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor,  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory, Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB, Software  OS X 10.8.3. Using an Iomega USB 1.5 TB external HD for file storage and Seagate 3TB HD for Time Capsule.

If you use Acrobat's Searchable Image (Exact) then the image is untouched and present.
If you use Acrobat's Searchable Image the image is still present but has be "tweaked" by Acrobat so the image isn't the "original" (not "exact").
If you use Acrobat's ClearScan the original image is gone. Recognized characters are replaced with an Acrobat internal font. Characters not recognized are left as a bit-mapped image.
As the first two above still have the image you can use Acrobat XI to Save As Other and select a supported image file format.
    Be well...

  • Motion clip disappears while working in 3d

In Motion 4.0.3, I'm working in 3d mode with a clip I've dropped in a drop zone.  I have also applied a False Color Filter to the clip.  When I rotate the camera angle, the clip disappears.  I think this has something to do with the filter.  How can I get the clip to remain visible the entire time?  I'm about to try to apply the filter before I export from FCP, which I think will work, but I would like to know if I can use the filter in Motion and make it work.  (The clip is exported from FCP 7.0.3 in .mov format.)

Tried it again and applying a filter before exporting from FCP did fix the problem.  Still would like to know about the problem with applying the filter to a video clip in motion when changing camera angles in 3d though.

  • Project Files disappear after emptying Aperture trash

Here's an odd issue: I import raw/jpeg files from my Canon 5dMII into a created project in Aperture. I sift through the pix and delete what I don't want. I then check in Aperture's trash to see if the deleted files are there, then empty the trash. What happens then is Aperture also deletes the files that remain in the project from which I had just deleted files! I looked in my imac's regular trash and the the files from the project weren't there--poof--gone! After going through this a few times, I happened to notice some "mystery" projects appeared in my library: "Untitled Project (1)"; "Untitled Project (2)" and so on (four of them).
In these "untitled projects": The mysteriously deleted files from MY project! HUH? Aperture moved the files from my created project into an "Untitled Project" after emptying the trash. Now THAT--is weird....Help!

The files I deleted were masters (raw/jpeg) that I knew I didn't want/need in the project--no other versions were created from them--they were just looked at then deleted. So the files that remained in the project that Aperture moved into an "Untitled Folder" were unrelated to the deleted files. The fact I seem to be the only one with this issue is even stranger to me . Is Apple Feedback the best (only?) avenue to report this bug?

  • Please Help! Files disappeared while copying!

Hi all. Ok, I'm not an idiot, but I seem to have done something stupid and I'm hoping there's a fix. I'll try to keep this brief.
My main user on my G5 kept having weird preferences problems. I decided I would create a new admin user and transfer all of my essential data (pictures for iPhoto and music for iTunes) to the shared folder and then to the new user. The plan was to then delete the old user and have only my brand new one. Here's what happened:
I dragged the folder containing all 4,700 of my photos to the shared folder (I held down the command key to move the folder instead of copying it). A dialogue box popped up showing the move in process and also giving me a cancel button. After about 2 seconds it occurred to me that I probably should have 'copied' the folder instead of 'moving' it just in case. So I hit cancel. The problem is that the folder had already disappeared from the original location, and only 200 of my pictures had been transferred to the new location! SO THE OTHER 4,500 photos are GONE!! Where did they go!?
Please help! I really hope I didn't just lose ALL those irreplaceable pics.
One other thing: I kept a close eye on my activity monitor, watching the space used on my hard drive. It hasn't changed. I would think that if the files were gone completely the disk space used would have gone down by 4GB. Any ideas? PLEASE!?
    Thanks.

You didn't lose them, but the Finder did. Do you have a copy of DiskWarrior? That will find them and put any 'lost' files into a 'lost & found' folder for you.
If not, there's a longer way - manually. Here's how. I have the same problem with the images disappearing inside my pictures folders, so I do a search with the Find tool, and use the names of the pictures - I take it with that many photos, they are taken with a digital camera?
Do a search with the IMG000.jpg or DSC0001.jpg - basically whatever the common name that your camera titles the pictures with. Don't bother with using the numbers. What will happen is that the pictures will come up in the search window and what I do is then I have a new folder waiting on the desktop and I drag and drop the pictures, 20 or 30 at a time out of the Finder window right into the new folder. That usually nails it, unless something has really gone flooey and I just use the DW.
    Deb.

  • How do I find my project files that I worked on in Trial Version 11

    Dear Assistance,
A few months ago, I downloaded version 11 trial and made a few projects.
Yesterday, after taking some time away from these projects, I tried to open them and could not.
I was told I needed to purchase the product, as my trial version had expired.
Thus, I purchased the product, but apparently version 11 (my trial version) was replaced with version 12.
I still cannot find my projects that I made with the trial version.
Can anyone kindly give me some assistance?
Thank you very much in advance,
    Ben

    Hi Wadeen,
The projects are stored on your hard drive, premiere elements does not store the projects.
If you are using a windows based machine the default location where the projects are saved is
    C:\Users\Username\MyDocuments\Adobe\Premiere Elements\11.0
or if you remember the project names you can manually search them.
    Thanks

  • Files disappeared while selecting/deselecting them in Bridge CC.

Hi all! I was selecting/deselecting a number of files on a SD card from my camera. It was attached via a card reader. All of a sudden a message appeared quickly so I could not read it fast enough and all the files are now gone! Any ideas? Seems Adobe has decided to stop helping people in person.

    Sounds like you lost connection.

  • Movie file "disappeared" while muxing

Here's a weird one: I was using tsMuxer to remove audio tracks from a large (22GB) .M2TS video file. At the end of the successful muxing, I realized I had left the output field blank, and I hadn't given the file a name (.m2ts extension), or even a save location.
I know the video file went somewhere, because I had 115GB on my internal drive before the muxing and I now have 95GB, but I absolutely can't find it. I've used Finder to search by File Size (greater than 10GB) or date modified (today) and I get no results. I've also emptied the trash.
How can I find this rogue file that's gobbling up valuable HD space?

To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.

  • Premiere creates garbage zero-byte file while saving, project file dissapears/corrupts

    Hi guys,
I've been experiencing a strange intermittent technical problem with Premiere project saves (and sometimes After Effects project files).
    Case:
    - Editor opens a project.
    - After a moment, as editor hits 'save'.
    - A strangely named file appears in the save location with no extension (a long string of characters separated by hyphons).
    - Sometimes, this garbage file disappears and project is saved. Other times, this file remains and original project file disappears and the editor doesn't even know!
    - If editor hits save again, a message box appears saying the file has been modified since last save - hit cancel or OK.
This issue has meant that we've lost project files, and have had to recover them from auto-save and/or Creative Cloud sync folder.
    Sometimes it saves ok!
This is what the strange file looks like.
I don't know if this issue is related to Adobe software, Mac os or Linux but we've only run into it while using Adobe software.
Sometimes, After Effects throws an error related to this as well, forcing you to either 'save as', or incremental save.
It's a networked editing environment - all clients are Mavericks macs, working from a Ubuntu Linux server via SMB via gigabit ethernet. All clients are authenticated to the server as the same Admin user. Directory and Create masks are 0755 in SMB settings. SMB.conf also has some tuning parameters: socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65536 SO_SNDBUF=65536
Op-locks are disabled at server-side (I thought it could be to do with oplocks).
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Or perhaps someone could explain to me the behind-the-scenes process that happens when Premiere executes a save?

Glad to hear it's not me going crazy, but unglad that you're experiencing it!
Recently we replaced SMB with NFS as the protocol for sharing our main raid volume and cache, and since then this issue no longer happens.
This definitely points to the way Adobe apps with with SMB. I have a feeling it's something to do with oplocks or something behind the scenes that denies PP access to the project file for overwriting it.
TBH, as a bonus NFS feels like a rocketship to planet editor-bliss. It's a proper beast. Unfortunately I'm not sure how good the Windows implementation is (I know certainly that only windows 7/8 enterprise clients are able to access NFS shares, which is a bummer for most).
