Project file size

Is there an easy way to determine what your project file size is before you burn to video. I have 1 hour 15 mins of video which should write Ok to a 4.7Gb dvd but adding the audio seems to take the whole project over the dvd file size limit. is this correct? and how do I find out what the total file size is on completionY
Thanks for any help.

In iMovie, select your project then click on Share > Export Movie.
At the end of each row of the varying sizes there is an i - information button.
Place your cursor over this to see the file size.
In iDVD, once you have loaded your project, click on Project > Project Info.
Here you will see the duration and file size and how it fits onto the disc in 'Capacity'.
I would advise you (in this window) to bump the Encoding up to 'Professional Quality'.
Best,

My premiere project file size just went from 190MB to 5.61GB... and now it won't open! Anyone know how this happened? Or how to prevent it from happening again? Thankfully I saved a backup project of the 190MB file size.

  • Reducing project file size

I've got a project that I'm working on. It's 7 tracks of audio and just under 4 minutes long. But the project file size is over 2 gigs! I ran the "Clean Up" option from the project management option under file. That only took it from 2.3 gigs to 2.1.
Why is it so large and what can I do to reduce the project file size? 2.1 gigs seems way too large for what it is.

Don't know if you found a solution but I did. Here's what you do:
im my case I save a lot. Like, I save after every operation. This causes Logic to keep lots of saved audio files in the project that I've overwritten a dozen times already.  I might perform 20 takes of a passage in a song I have.  Logic will keep all 20 takes even though I've deleted the audio file in the editor window.  This causes my 3 min song to bloat out to 2-3GB in size.
When I'm reasonably sure I like the condition of my song and it's structure I will then do the following:
Save a new version of the project. Then open "window - project audio". This opens the project audio window.  In this window I select "edit - select unused audio". This highlights all the audio files that have been deleted/overwritten by myself during my recording and editing. I then hit the Delete key. I believe Logic then confirms the delete command and deletes the unused audio. I close the window and save a new copy of the project. Now my file size is a sane number (450mb for example) rather than the 2.5GB it was before. Of course doing this I've eliminated the ability to "undo" any audio editing/deleting but I've already confirmed that fact.
Hope this helps you out. It helped reduce a 6 min project that was 5.7GB back to a sane number of 890mb. I guess you can say I do a lot of, umm, takes

  • Project Bloating and Repair in Premiere Pro CS6; Max Project File Size? Adobe Coders Welcome...

    Greetings.
After a few browsing sessions, I haven't found direction for a specific problem within a project bloat. First and foremost; we're always backed up. I have a restoration copy of the project that I will reference herein. Check that off the list.
Numerous people have posted here and around Creative Cow with problems regarding an expanding file size using CS6; watching files go from 300mb to 2.8gb. The unfortunate problem is when the project crosses a magical line that results in an inablity to open, import, export, or access sequences contained therein. Has anyone addressed a solution to repairing Premiere CS6 save files? Reducing file bloat? I haven't seen anything (recall the FCP7 repair days... solutions existed because problems were frequent; thankfully not so bad with Adobe).
Does anyone inside the code size know the maximum project file size that Premiere can read? I created a monster... Over 200 sequences utilizing 4.5TB of footage, stretching from Red codecs to EXCam to MPEG4 and H264. And for some time, the project size was manageable. Then, it inflated. And one day, randomly stopped opening. None of the auto-saves open.
Just curious. Files aren't the problem, but the 2.8GB save file is. Machine specs // etc. are openly available if required; no bad ram, no problems with all projects (just this one beast).
    Cheers,
    Jon Michael Ryan

  • Premiere Pro CS6, large project file size - crashing etc

Working on a project in Premiere Pro CS6 - also incorporating after effects and using 2 external plugins (Beauty Box and Factory Pro FX).  Project is over 500MB, lots of comps, titles etc.  project seems to be corrupt on my machine. .The project crashes continually. I cannot save my work, I cannot export, I cannot create XML and media is linking incorrectly.  When I pull the project in on my laptop (separate machine) which has CC 2014 running, the project is FINE.  That said - I need to work off of the more powerful machine to do this job - so need to find a way to troubleshoot.  Note - project opens on my partner's machine, she can save + export, etc - however the media in still linking incorrectly on her machine as well (note partner does not have the 2 plugins, beauty box and factory Pro FX) - that said, it still links to the wrong media.
We have worked out a work-arond where we pull all of the AE sequences out of Premiere and into separate AE project which has made the project workable again but we know something is WRONG and we need to fix for future ASAP.
    please help!
    thank you

  • Project file size bloat when editing sound media in Audition

Whenever I clean up a voice-over clip in using Audition, the size of the clip in Captivate remains about the same, but the project file size increases by about the amount of the original clip.
For example, the size of the original sound clip is 1098.90. The size of the edited clip is 1103.98. The size of the original project file is 5416, but the size of the saved file with the edited clip is 6496.  I'm using Captivate 7 and the latest version of Audition CC. I've cleared my cache and removed any unused media.
All I am doing to the clip is some noise reduction and EQ tweaking.
It seems like Captivate is saving both versions of the sound clip.
    UPDATE:
I've also tried saving the sound file as a .wav from Audition into a folder and then updating the sound clip in Captivate. Same bloat problem.
I have also copied the slides into a blank project. Again, same file size problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Is there a maximum project file size?

I am currently working on a project and the latest project file version I saved had about 922 KB - Premiere wouldn't want to open that again - it keeps crashing when I try to open it
Then I opened up a new project - imported just that sequence I was working on and suddenly it works again with a project file size of 238 KB
I have no idea what the reason for those crashes might be so I was wondering if there is such thing as a maximum project file size premiere can handle?

    Welcome to our community
There really shouldn't be any load limitations other than those imposed by the Captivate files themselves. My guess is that you plan on using WebHelp, no? And if you are, the Captivate demos will be loaded as needed from the server. So the only lag you will see is the delay for what it takes for the server to serve up the demo itself.
Hopefully this answers your question. If not, post back and we will take another stab at it.

  • Project File Size Nearly Doubled?

Hi, I've been exporting video for a good year and a half in Premiere Elements 11 using the following method.
    Publish & Share -> Computer -> MPEG -> Presets HD 720p 30
My file size has normally been quite reasonable every time I exported a video.
However, today after a good 3-4month Hiatus from making videos, I created another video (very similar to my previous made ones) and tried to export it.  I realized that the file size is about double that of all of my other videos around the same length.
I also went back to an old saved project that I did and it's also showing a doubled file size (2g now), despite the previous file that was exported from this project saying 1.3gb.
I don't recall editing anything to the bitrate at all either so I am quite confused as to what is going on.
    Can anyone help me?
    Much thanks in advance,
    Shou

    Hi A.T. Romano,
Yes, I am looking at an older project to see if it was just the new video I was using in my newer project that was increasing the size.  It seems this is not the case.
    a. I'm not sure where to locate the bitrate of all of the video on the time line.  If you are talking about the original video and not the edited versions, the properties state that the bit rate for each video is about 17200kbps.  I do have photos as well as video on the timeline.
    Frame Size: 1920x1080
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    File Size: 2.1gb
    b. No I am not customizing the preset at all.
    c. File Size: 2043.39    Duration: 17Min 49sec
    d. I am finding the export dialog and the newly exported file are one in the same.  Initially I was reading the exported file size by looking at the properties of the file.
    Sure thing!
And thank you for your help!

  • Project file size bloats (Captivate 3)

Does anyone know what causes a project file to become disproportionately bloated? I was working on a file that was approx 200 MB, then imported some objects onto one slide from another project, and suddenly it jumped to over 300 MB (I even deleted all items in the library that weren't being used elsewhere).
I've noticed this phenomenon on more than one occassion. It seems to occur most frequently when importing objects or slides from one project to another.

    Hi there
The only way that I've ever seen a file size reduction in Captivate 3 was by performing the following steps:
Open a second instance of Captivate.
Create a new blank project sized identically to the other instance.
Switching between instances, copy slides from the bloated one and paste into the fresh one.
Save the new one and the file size is reduced.
    Discard the old one.
Note that you will likely need to re-establish any links you had.
Just a special note here about one of the things you tried. You said you exported to XML. I don't believe you are able to export to XML, then import from XML back into a new project. I believe the XML export works in a very similar manner to the Microsoft Word export. Only the project that exported it will be able to successfully re-import it. As I understand it, the XML export is especially designed for Captivate developers that need to localize (translate) their projects.

  • Increase Project File Size limit?

When I'm recording a longer song with real instruments, occasionally I will be told I can't record because I'm close to the 2gb file size limit. How do you increase the file size limit, or just get rid of it all together?
    Thanks

I didn't know there was a size limit. I have Projects that are over 2 GB.

  • Project file size increase

    I reduced the slides in my project from 1024 x 768 to 800 x
600 and the size of my file almost doubled in size.
Also, I reduced a Project from 264 slides to 22 slides, and
the file size only went from 64MB to 58MB. (The files I removed
were all the screen captures, and I don't use FMR)
    What the??
    Cheers,
    Kerry

    Hi Kerry,
Please try to check / do these two things to solve your
second problem. (deleting slides does not reduce CP size)
    1. Do you delete the slides from the library?
Once you delete the slides from the project, go to library
and select all unused resources and click "delete". now save and
    check your file size.
    2. If you perform the first solution and see the problem,
then confirm that Captivate application is closed and then just
rename the file in which you see this problem. After renaming the
    file, check the file size.
Do let us know, if it works.

  • Project File Size is huge!

I was working with about 25 MS Project files with different sizes. I am not
sure what happened but I moved some tasks around between the different files
and all of a sudden most of these files have increased significantly in size.
    Probably, my files became corrupted?
    help is always appreciated

    Hi,
How many task do you have in your file? Try to save as (if you can) the file under another name, it could reduce the size.
Are you at least able to open it in MS Project before it crashes? In case you are, try the XML export as per this article.
There is also a tool called Project Repair Kit that I've never tried but it seems to worked quite well.
    Demo:- http://www.project.repair/
    Finally, you could visit:
    http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/project/105-%E2%80%8Bms-project-cannot-save-file-cannot-be-opened
(replace caps) so I could try on my side.
    Hope this helps,

  • Project file size limits?

    Hey everybody
I have a question although I am not entirely sure how to phrase it so here goes.
I already know that premiere pro CS4 is optimised to use up to 16 gigabytes of RAM even though it is not native 64 bit. Now I have edited some pretty large premiere pro projects for my business however the file sizes of the  .pproj project files have never been bigger than 15 - 20 MB. So I am wondering, in order to reach anywhere near the 16GB limit of premiere pro CS4 the size of the project would have to be utterly gigantic in order to reach anywhere near the 16 GB limit. In fact I do not htink it is even possible as the project would crash long before it reached that size. So, what exactly is all that headroom for? What else is loaded into RAM when you load a premiere project? I am guessing it is not just the .pproj file that is taking up room in RAM but also other "things" as well.
Does anyone else know what these other things could be? The reason why I ask is that my premiere pro is crashing randomly and I am wondering if it has somethign to do with my RAM. I have 16 GB installed on my system.
I hope my question is reasonably clear.
    Cheers in advance
    Angus

    Hi,
I think you might be confusing the use of Ram and the use of Hard drive space and how ram is used in computers ?
Ram is used by your Operating System and programs ( to just run the programs )...and sometimes there are programs on your taskbar ( like virus scanners etc ) that are running in the background that use ram also...
The ram is used as needed by your premiere program but it is not a process where your whole project file ( and assets ) gets loaded into ram when you open a project...  the file size of the project ( and file sizes of your assets ) are only a reflection of the space it uses on your Hard Drive....
In other words, if I have a project file that is 20 meg on the hard drive it does not mean that 20 meg of ram will be used by that project when you open it...
Maybe someone here knows of an article or something to explain the basic computer components and how they interact...
As you use your premiere program, depending on what you are asking the program to do ( render, export , etc. ), it will use your available ram as needed...sometimes using a lot and sometimes using less....
Some of what you do with premiere will also be using the ram on your graphics card....which is another component that will affect your overall performance depending on what you are asking the program to do.
All this interaction between ram and hard drive and your running programs will also be affected by your CPU , front side bus speed, and so on...
There are threads here about how to tune up your OS and computer to make it as good as possible.... fast and trouble free ....
Soooo, in essence you have two different issues when running premiere.....the computer hardware and OS, and the program setup ( preferences , etc )
Bottom line, size of project file has not much to do with how much ram is being used on a constant basis..
    hope this helps

  • After Effects project file size max?

    Hey guys,
Anyone know if there's a critical mass with an after effects project file?  For example, I have a 6 minute film I'm working on with hundreds of precomps.  Is there a time where there's too much going on in the project file?  I'm versioning like crazy, but I was just wondering.

Not that I'm aware of. I think the largest one I've ever made was around 98mb. At that point, the file became way too cumbersome, and I ended up splitting up the project more efficiently into multiple project files. There may be a limit, but if not, then it would probably be any file size limits imposed by your OS.

  • Crashing \ project file size limit \ ram?

I'm working on a project that will have 250 pages, full color, 300 dpi, lots of graphics and photos. It was starting to crash regularly so I broke it into two parts of 125 pages each. I notice it is still a big funky. Crashing unpredictably.
This is on a Mac Pro Dual Core Intel 2.66 GHz. I've only got 2 G of RAM, live in the middle of nowhere, and don't have time to add more RAM.
This setup handles HD video like a whiz, never any crashes. It does not seem to like the big graphics files with Pages.
Any advice? Should I keep the project file to a certain max in terms of size?
    Ben
Any suggestions? Could I be able to tell

    Ben,
You are not alone. I have a page layout document with similar problems. It is only 90 pages, but many (about 600) photos. Pages crashes randomly, but frequently. My Power Mac has 4.5 GB ram and lots of disk space. I duplicated the problem on a Mac Pro with 4 GB ram at the local apple store. The project file is about 100 MB but Pages uses 3 GB of actual ram memory and more of virtual memory. I concur with the reply from Thomas -- adding ram is not the answer (but it might help). In fact, I increased my ram from 3.5 to 4.5 GB hoping that it would help. I also get the same kinds of errors that Thomas reports.
You can check the resources as suggested by Peter. I suspect you will see that the memory requirements (real and virtual) are very large, much much larger than the file size.
This discussion forum is supposed to be a self-help forum for users. Unfortunately, I am afraid that Apple has serious design issues and bugs that only they can fix -- at least I hope they do. Until then, my book is on hold. I may have to buy other software. It's a shame because Pages is actually really good -- but that can't make up for it's deadly flaws.
