Project in 24 fps want to import 30 and 60 fps without quality problems

I am finishing up a documentary that has taken 7 years.  most of the footage is in 24 fps progressive.  I have some shot in 30 and 60 fps.
The FCP X project is in 24 fps.  I am not finding a way to make the footage smooth.  It is either non-interlaced or is pixelated.
I shot it with a DVX100A (good in 2005).
I need help in how to get the 30 and 60 fps looking good in the 24 fps project.
Will I have to render those outside and reimport?
I know FCPX does not need Cinema Tools etc.  But from everything I have read, I see no way to import the 30 and 60 into a 24 without quality loss.
Again, my only thought is to litterally render it outside in a different project and then import that render.
Help!!!

Ok, I'm sorry, I'm not understanding.
The clips are all 720x480.  The project is bigger but all clips import to the correct "adjusted" size.
Is there a place I have to put the 480 => 720 setting?  Isn't it the case if they are appearing in the correct size (meaning the top of and bottoms of the 30fps are at the top and bottom of the 720 size), then they are already set correctly?
Is there something else I have to set to get the quality to the best it can be?
Again, 24 fps are in fine quality, in the corrected size.

1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />

Save it to your Desktop.<br />

Thanks very much for the instructions.  I encountered this problem this morning myself and the recommendation fixed the problem immediately.  When things like this happen with iCloud and Pages it makes me wonder if I might be better off using something else, having just recently had to fix the problem that the current Pages can't read documents I created with a much earlier version until they were "upgraded" by an interim version.

  • I want to import and restore photos that I previously had in an older version of Photoshop Elements.

Is it easy to import and restore from an older version? '
    Any pitfalls?

If you're installing the new version of PSE on the same computer, and the actual photos have not been moved, the new version of PSE will find your old catalog and offer to upgrade the catalog to the new version.  Your old catalog will remain untouched -- the new version of the catalog will be a separate catalog.

  • Importing and exporting without losing quality?

I have a Sony HDR-xr200 and a 2.53ghz macbook pro. As it is, I have to import HD footage through the windows conversion on my mac because the stupid Sony camera will only import to a windows based program called PBM. After importing to PBM I have to manipulate the shots into .wmv, put them on a external drive, restart my computer on the mac portion, and download the .wmv files to FCE. Once the .wmv files get to FCE there is an obvious quality loss which becomes even more pronounced with I complete my final rendering and save the FCE project to either a .mov or .wmv.
I don't even know where to to start in fixing this ridiculous process. Is there a way to get what is on my camera directly to my mac that I don't know about? If not, how do I preserve the HD footage quality?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi -
Are your upgraded to FCE 4.0.1?
You should be able to get the video files off you camera directly by using *Log and Transfer* (not *Log and Capture* or Import ).
Your video will be loaded and automatically transcoded to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for editing on FCE.
You can read about the Log and Transfer window on page 224 of the FCE manual.
You can read about working with AVCHD files on page 220 of the manual.
    Hope this heps.

  • Air imports Mp4-File without a problem, MacBook does not!?

I have downloaded a flash file from Youtube and converted it to MP4 with CosmoPod. Then I tried to import it into iMovie08 and it worked great with my MacBook Air. But when I try to import the same file on my black MacBook I keep running into a problem: the clip gets imported into iMovie and the thumbnail pictures in the timeline are shown correctly, but when I want to view it, there is no video, only audio!?
How can that be? When there is a problem with the encoding of the source file it should effect both Macs, right? Is there perhaps a prefs switch I have to flip on the MacBook to make it work?

Have you got the same plug-ins for QT installed on both macs.

  • Inconvenient to import 50 fps AVCHD from Sony RX100M2

    Hi all,
I have the Sony RX100M2 camera (European/PAL version), and when shooting videos in 50 fps they don't get imported among the photos when using iPhoto to import. This hasn't changed with the new iPhoto '11 version 9.5.
So, the way to get the videos (which play back fine once imported) into iPhoto I have to manually open the AVCHD file in QuickTime Player and then select the video files in the ”Open Clip” window that comes up. Once they're opened I have to manually save and name each clip onto my hard drive. After that I can import them into iPhoto.
Quite a few steps and upon each save I have to change the folder where to save to, because it reverts back to AVCHD file location on the camera between each save. Is there a way to automate this you think? Maybe using Automator? If there was a way to ”batch save” all movies from QuickTime Player that would help a lot too.
Finally, I can't see why iPhoto doesn't support importing these movies directly, since it obvioslu is capable of doing so in conjunction with manual work in QuickTime Player. I really hoped the new iPhoto 9.5 would handles this, but obviously not.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your reply.
Well, if I set the camera to shoot 25 fps they will import into iPhoto, but the problem then is that since they are interlaced, playback in iPhoto shows ”waves” all over the video when a somewhat quick camera movement is done. What I find really strange is that if I playback the same file in the Finder using Quick Look or open it in QucikTime Player, the video is deinterlaced and thus looks fine. Why the same playback method isn't being used in iPhoto is a bit strange, no?
Anyway, I can choose to record 25 fps and ”non-interlaced” and that imports and plays back fine iPhoto. Guess I have to go with that.
What I really just want is to have a good place to import all my media. Too bad iPhoto can't cope with the movie features of newer cameras. 50 fps video is quite nice and smooth.
What I just also noticed is that the manual procedure I described about importing the 50 fps videos unfortunately also gets rid of the ”original date” when the movie was recorded since it instead puts the date of when the save from QuickTime Player is done. Too bad…
    I've sent feedback to Apple.

  • Re-Importing and re-connecting P2 files

    Hi all,
I recently needed to re-import a whole slew of P2 files for a feature-length PBS doc (because of a frame jitter caused by fcp ver. 5.0.4 that was fixed in the upgrade). I dumped the older media and re-imported the files, but now, fcp doesn't recognize the name/path. I can turn off the "Matched Name Only" toggle and force it to reconnect the files, but when I do, two things happen: first - it gives me a warning that certain attributes don't match (the "Media In/Out Points," "Reel Name" and "Rate"). And second, I can only reconnect one clip at a time. This is a 30 minute feature with hundreds of clips.
Is there a faster way to force fcp to batch re-connect the media?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Tim Walton

    Hey Shane -
    Am I glad you're here!
Hmmm....you didn't rename any of them when you first imported, right?
No, I didn't rename any of the clips.
How did you import the first time? This time? Was P2 log used? How did you import the files this time?
I did not use the P2 log. Originally, the .mxf files were simply copied to our NAS server using the P2 "Library" card reader. To this day, they haven't been moved or modified from that location. In both instances, I imported directly from the NAS into fcp by using the "File>Import>Panasonic P2" command. The "Import P2" dialogue window opened, and from there, I would select the folder with the .mxf files I wanted to import, and I'd choose, "Open." I'd select all of the files in the folder and add them to the import que (I noticed that the import interface has changed a lot from ver 5.0.4 - but I'm certain that isn't causing problems.)
Another related issue - I've gone through and reconnected all my clips manually. During the re-connect, I got a warning message on each of the clips that said that certain attributes had changed - the reel #, the rate (is that the frame rate, data rate, or what?) and the media in/out points. I told it to continue on each clip. But once reconnected, the in and out points on most - if not all - of the clips has slipped about 3 frames.
In the words of a co-worker - this is a big monkey on my back!
    I'm really baffled here.

  • Problem importing and including the subfolders without getting question marks

i am trying to import a folder of vacation pictures. it has 5000 pictures and there are many subfolders. It imports them where i want but it gives me question marks on all the subfolders. And the subfolders are empty even though it tells me how many pictures are in the folder. I right clicked the question marked folders and point to where they are and it just says they are already there and do i want to merge the folders. In importing i told it to include the subfolders. I have tried this twice and each time the same results. Very frustrating to have to scroll through thousands of pictures. what am i doing wrong.

try sync your folders and make sure you are not moving anything externally:
    Synchronize folders
When you synchronize folders, you have the option of adding files that have been added to the folder but not imported into the catalog, removing files that have been deleted, and scanning for metadata updates. The photo files in the folder and all subfolders can be synchronized. You can determine which folders, subfolders, and files are imported.
In the Folders panel, select the folder you want to synchronize.
    Choose Library > Synchronize Folder.
In the Synchronize Folder dialog box, do any of the following:
To import photos that appear in the folders but have not been imported in the catalog, select Import New Photos. If you select Show Import Dialog Before Importing, you can specify which folders and photos are imported.
To remove photos that have been deleted from the folder but not from the catalog, select Remove Missing Photos From Catalog. If this option is dimmed, no files are missing. (You can choose Show Missing Photos to display the photos in Grid view.)
To scan for any metadata changes made to the files in another application, choose Scan For Metadata Updates.
    Click Synchronize.
If the Import Photos dialog box opens, specify the folders and files you want to import, and then click Import.
    also:
Make sure that the option "Library" -> "Show Photos in Subfolders" is enabled. If it is not enabled, an activated folder will only show the photos that are directly in that folder.

  • I want to import a cd to itunes without gaps

I want to import a cd without gaps

The only progressive video that FCE supports directly is 720p25 and 720p30.
FCE has never supported 24fps material
There are workarounds for importing & using 1080p material that were frequently discussed in this forum about a year ago.  Try searching the forum.

  • Unable to drag and drop mp4 movies into itunes but the file will import and play using home sharing

Strange problem with my brothers MacBook.
The movie files were converted to mp4 format ready to be played on an iphone and I imported them into my iTunes on an iMac with no problems.
Files were also saved onto a flash drive which I passed on to my brother.
My brother was unable to import files by drag and drop and also by "add to library", we even copied and pasted files from the flash drive to the desktop but that also didn't work.
Using "home sharing the movies imported and played with no problems.
Any ideas why this is happening?

This appears to be a long-standing bug:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634720
and the accepted workaround is stated in comment 11.
Oddly, it's possible to do the reverse, i.e. drag multiple eml files from Explorer to a TB folder.

  • Importing Frame files without creating RH folders

    Hiya.
I'm importing Frame 7 files into RH 7. When I import the files, RoboHelp creates folders for each chapter in the Frame book. When I reimport, it creates MORE folders and nests the older folders in them. How do I turn this off? I want to import the files without structuring them in folders.
    Thanks.
    KC

MP_Root (at the root level of the card directory structure) and putting a folder 101PNV01 inside the MP_Root folder. I then put some mpg-2 file in the 101PNV01 folder, started iMovie '08, inserted the flash card and had the files recognized so I could import them.
    Great. This works!
Here is what I did (and this should work for anyone who has old .MOD files but no longer has the accompanying .MOI files):
    Like F Shippey stated
    1) Create a root folder on your sd card (in my case, via a USB card reader) or USB stick (not tested) called Mp_Root.
    2) Inside this folder create another folder called 101PNV01.
    3) Rename the extensions of all your .MOD files to .MPG and copy them inside the 101PNV01 folder.
    4) Restart iMovie08. It will now detect a new camera and import all clips using the date created/modified info as timestamps for perfect cataloging!
iMovie 08 does NOT re-encode the movie files, which is great cos it's very quick plus you retain 100% the original quality. It simply puts them in a .MOV container and creates a separate movie file for the thumbnails.
Thanks for your help F Shippey!

  • Movie "Margin Call" will not download error 8008 or -50. all other movies and music will download without a problem.

any ideas? i've tried shutting down the AV and Apple firewall with no luck.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

  • I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings
