Project in cs5 gone????

Installed Premiere CS5. Created small test project. Save and made changes and saved several times. Then I go to open project and it opens empty. Nothing on the sequence or no files in resource central. This really makes me nervous. Is this maybe a bug? anyone else?

Yep... it happened to me this morning!
A project that I have been working on in CS5 all of a sudden started taking 5-10 minutes to open and was 'Not Responding' for about 3mins after any edit. When I looked at the .pproj it had a date of 5/4/2010 (today is 5/25/2010). The last time I opened it there was nothing there whereas there should have been 4 - 30min SEQ's w/ Media.
I went into the Auto-Save and low & behold there was a .pproj with today's date. I had to open the Auto-Save .pproj and redo some of my edits but for the most part it was in tact and close to the point in the edit where it should have been.
Scary, but I don't recall doing anything out of the norm to the project which is EX1 Footage (h.264), Video (.avi & .mov) w/GRFX (.png & .jpg) - 1920x1080 30p.
Neither OE or a lack of understanding of what I need was the culprit in my case as this was NOT a new project but one that is ongoing... but understanding of how Premiere saves/stores Auto-Saves saved my butt. As you edit and learn Premiere these little things may possibly still pop up but at least then you'll know how to deal with it... and hopefully the Forums will still be here if you can't figure it out for yourself.

  • Opening CS4 Project in CS5

    Hi Guys
    I'm trying to open a CS4 project in CS5.
On opening I get a message saying it was created in an earlier version of Pr and must be converted. I click OK and get a screen showing all the project folders and clips with options to 'skip' or 'skip all'. I tried opening the folders but nothing is there and it says 'No items match your search'. I tried typing the project name into the 'File name' box; the same thing. I click on a clip but it that doesn't do anything either, so I click 'skip all' and when the project opens all the clips have been replaced by an image saying ' Media Offline'. I find if I right click on each clip I can relink but this would take some time as there are 75 in the project. Any ideas how I can open this project to work on?
    Regards,
    Graham

When you open a CS4 project in CS5, the required conversion will result in a new filename with _1 appended to the name. Then when opening this project you need to show PR where the files are located by directing it to the correct directory. Once you have done that for the first file, it will automatically find the other files in that directory. Since you have now offlined all the files by skipping them, I suggest you delete this CS5 project and import again from CS4 and taking the little time to direct PR to the correct media.

  • Can I open a CS6 Premiere project in CS5.5?

I am working in CS6 Premiere and am needing to transfer the project files to my partners machine and he is working on CS5.5. His computer says it's unable to open because the project was saved in a newer version. Is there any way to bypass that? His computer has a lot more power than mine and we need that to finish an effects heavy project asap.
Any help out there? Thanks so much!

    Thanks everyone!
I did try the FCP XML export and it gave me an error message that I didn't quite understand and wasn't able to find any real help on that. So that method may not be your best bet, Jim Curtis.
What I ended up doing was opening up the project in CS5. It couldn't recognize the Red (5k) footage, but I saved the project file and when I opened it in CS5.5 I just had to relink the footage. I know that's a long work around, but hey, it worked and that's all that matters. Hopefully, I'll be upgrading once the new pro's come out and I won't need to do all the heavy effects at my partners house anymore.
    Cheers

  • I have a finalized project in iMovie '11.  Shared it on Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo.  Then, when I shared it to iDVD, it reverted to a previous version of the project, so my titles and pictures were out of sequence.  My final project is now gone!

I have a finalized project in iMovie '11.  Shared it on Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo.  Then, when I shared it to iDVD, it reverted to a previous version of the project, so my titles and pictures were out of sequence.  Now, in my list of projects, my project is there, but finalized as the previous version which is all out of sequence.   My true final project is now gone!  What happend?
I didn't notice this problem until after the DVD was burned in iDVD.  Then, when I played the DVD in a public setting, I was a bit embarrassed by what played.

    Hi
    My first thoughts are
    • iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
    • in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

  • CS4 project to CS5 anomaly

Previous project was 1080 from a digital camera.
When I imported a previous CS4 PAL DV project into CS5, all the sequences were set to 1080 not DV.
I added a DV sequence, gave up and tried again.  This time the sequences were DV as they should have been originally.
This suggests that there might be an anomaly sometimes when importing projects from CS4 to CS5 when they are of different types from the immediately previous work in CS5.
Working OK now, but posted so there is a record in case others have the same problem.

If I can repeat it, or others report the same issue, I'll certainly put in a bug report.  But as of now it could easily be a one-off from a particular project.

  • Working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - Flash won't let me save FLA normally (ctrl+s)

I started working on a Flash project and I'll be moving it back and  forth between two different computers. The project was originally  started in Flash CS4. The other computer has Flash CS5.5 installed. So  when in CS5.5 I save the fla as a CS4 version FLA.
I hit Save As... and  then from the Save As Type pull-down menu I selected CS4 Fla document and I  assumed that from then on I could just hit ctrl+s to save the project  and it would maintain the CS4 version. But that isn't quite what's  happening. Every time I hit ctrl+s a Flash Compatibility Warning pops up  and tells me that I need to use Save As... and then Save As Type again  to keep it a CS4 document.
So basically, from what I understand, when working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - I can't use Save. I can only use Save as...
This is really annoying because I am accustomed to hitting ctrl+s pretty often.
And  now EVERY TIME I wish to do a simple save, I need to hit ctrl+shift+s,  then select CS4 from the Save As Type menu, then hit save, and then  click YES when asked if to overwrite the previous file with the same  name.
    Is this a bug?

Flash will let me Embed the FLV but not let me use it for playback.

  • Can't open Premiere CS4 project in CS5

Having issues opening a premiere cs4 project in cs5. The machine I was using with Cs4 has died, so I'm trying to continue the project with CS5.
Whenever I open the project I get a message saying "this project contained a sequence that could not be opened, No sequence preview preset or file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I have the latest version of premiere cs5 installed, and quicktime. The footage I was using was from a Canon 7D.
    Thank you!

  • How do I open old projects in CS5?!

I just purchased a new iMac for our office. The old version of Premier (Premier 6.5) we had wouldn't run with the new OS system (10.6.4), so we've upgraded to CS5 and now none of our older projects will open... this creates a huge problem since we do a lot of 30 second tv spots for local car dealers and they tend to change only a few minor things every month. Might be the color of a car or the current incentive. So I just build off last month's commercial instead of redesigning the wheel every time... is there a way to open or import my older projects or am I pretty much screwed and have to recreate them?
    thanks,
    Rick

CS5 is not designed to open projects made in any version before CS3.  I doubt even Premiere Pro 2.0 projects will open or import in CS5.
Sorry, Jeff--gotta call you out on this one:
From the help docs linked above (emphasis is mine):
You can add the contents of a project made
with Premiere Pro CS3 on either Mac OS or Windows. In addition,
on Windows, you can import a project made with earlier versions
of Premiere Pro, or Premiere 6.0 or 6.5. The imported project’s clips
and sequences are added to the Project panel in a bin named after
the imported project. The bin hierarchy of the imported project
is maintained within its new bin. Discontinued transitions and effects
are not maintained. Use caution when importing a project into another
project with a different time base or audio sample rate, because
these differences may affect edit positioning and audio quality.
    Importing
a project into another project is the only way to transfer its complete sequence
    and clip information.
Also, you can open projects made with
Premiere Pro for Windows, including any contents that may have been
imported from earlier versions, in Premiere Pro for Mac OS.
True, the project files won't "open," per se, but at least on Windows, you can go back quite a way. I've personally imported Premiere 6.0/6.5 PC projects into CS5 without an issue.
As the last line of the quote above mentions, you can get old Premiere projects (Mac or PC I'm guessing, since it doesn't specify) into the Mac version of CS5 by routing through the Windows version. Two step, perhaps, but it's better than nothing.

  • CS5.5 Crashes When importing Projects from CS5

I'm trying to update ll my CS5 projects into CS5.5.  However it will load the project, but while indexing the files it goes super slow and eventually stops.  Then crashes.  This happens to all of my CS5 projects I try to import.  CS5.5 however works perfectly fine on it own.  Is there a fix for this or do I have change a setting since I still have both CS5 and CS5.5 installed on the same computer?

First of all, projects don't have these settings any more, sequences do, and you can have any number of different sequences in any given project.
Right click on a clip in the bin and select New Sequence from Clip.  That will create a new sequence that properly matches your footage.  Then delete the clip that's there, and Copy/Paste everything from your old sequence into the new.  You may have to go through and adjust some edits, depending on the settings for the first sequence.

  • Importing CS4 Project into CS5.5

Can't get playback to the monitor from the timeline is the main issue (using a BMD HD Extreme I/O card). I can double click the video files in the bin and get playback to the monitor, but not from the timeline. The CS4 project is a 4 x 3 SD project. So far, I've simply double clicked the CS4 project file to open the project in CS5.5. Nothing. And, I've opened a new project in CS5.5 with the settings exactly as they were in the CS4 project. Nothing. I've made certain all tracks are active, etc.
    Anyone have advice on this?
    Thanks,
    Bill

I should add that after setting up the CS5.5 project with settings matching the CS4 project, I imported the CS4 project into it. Again, no playback to the monitor.

  • Is Editing a rendered project in CS5.5 possible?

Is it possible to edited a previusly rendered project in CS5.5? Also, in tutorials reference to accessing the render queue is required but, I can't find it. Help!

    Welcome to the forum.
When you say, "a project after rendering," do you mean a Project, that has been Rendered (hitting Enter/Return) for smoothest playback, or do you mean a Project, that has been Exported to a separate AV file?
    Good luck,

  • Open CS5.5 project in CS5?

Is there a way to open a Premiere CS5.5 project in CS5?  I am trying to transfer a project done in CS5.5 by a colleage  to my CS5 system.  I've been avoiding CS5.5 because I, personally, had no need for it.  I'm waiting for CS6.  I would hate to purchase CS5.5 just to jump to CS6 in 6 months or so.  This is a pro bono project, so there's no way to justify the move to CS5.5 based on $$.  :-(
    Any options?

    Ann -
CS5 gives me the same error when I try to import the CS5.5 project as it does when I try to open the project.  The error message from CS5 is actually incorrect, but I understand the issue.  When I try to import just a sequence CS5 hangs.
"The project was created in an older version of Premiere and cannot be opened.  Please refer to the User Guide for import options".

  • Is there a "reveal in project" shortcut CS5 pc?

Is there a "reveal in project" shortcut CS5 pc?
When a subclip is on the TL & I right click it, I can choose "reveal in project" but can not find a way to make a keyboard shortcut in "keyboard customization"

OK, I'm following you. I've got a couple thoughts..
First,  I'd avoid subclips altogether, particularly if you're just going to  convert them to master clips. In essence, you're marking your master  clip and inserting them into a sequence--with a few other steps in  between.
Premiere can create a marked duplicate of a  master clip simply by dragging it from the Source Monitor to the Project  panel without any modifier keys. This will give you another independent  reference to the media file, but it will have the in and out points as  you created them in the Source Monitor. If you create a series of these,  you could then automate them to a sequence, and they will respect the  marks you made. Unlike subclips, which are hard stops, you'd have  handles on both ends (because they're just marked clip instances) so you  could do transitions and the like. Unfortunately, there is no keyboard shortcut or command to do this, so it's a mouse action--probably not going to help with your macro.
I DIDN'T REALIZE I COULD. THE LAST VERSION I HAD WAS CS3 AND THAT CREATED A SUBCLIP EVEN WHEN DRAAGED TO A BIN. NICE WORK COLIN! IT STINKS THAT THERE IS NO KEYBOARD SHORTCUT BUT THIS WILL HELP ME SPEED UP MY EDITING QUITE A BIT!!
But,  what about setting up a key on the Contour that marked an out point on  your clip in the Source Monitor, and immediately after edited into the  active sequence? I suppose you could map the Mark In Point command to  one button on the Contour, and the Mark Out Point + Insert to a button  right next to it, and you'd be able to rock through a master clip pretty  quickly. That way, you'd be cutting out the middleman, so to speak--no  subclips, no converting to master clips, no automate to sequence--and  you'd still end up with the same result.
THAT IS THE EXACT WAY I'VE ALWAYS HAD IT SET UP. IT IS AMAZINGLY FAST. I WILL KEEP USING SUBCLIPS TO BIN BECAUSE I CAN MACRO THEM HOWEVER I ALREADY KNOW WHEN I AM CUTTING UP THE MC WHICH CLIPS NEED TO BE REFERENCED CLIPS INSTEAD OF SUBCLIPS & I CAN MANUALLY DRAG THEM FROM THE SOURCE WINDOW TO THE BIN.
However, it's possible I'm missing a key part of your workflow here. Curious to hear your thoughts...
NO, YOU NAILED IT COLIN...THANKS SO MUCH!!

  • My macbook suddenly shut down, and when rebooted, imovie project was completely gone.  No record of it at all.  Have been working on it for days, and it has always been there.  Any way to restore it?  Thanks.

My macbook suddenly shut down, and when rebooted, imovie project was completely gone.  No record of it at all.  Have been working on it for days, and it has always been there.  Other projects are still there.  Any way to restore it?  Thanks.

    I figured it out!!!
Hey guys! Here's what I did that saved my project.
    -SHORT VERSION-
Use the Finder window on your Mac to copy and paste your old project (the one not showing up in imovie) to a new folder so that iMovie will see it.
    -LONG VERSION-
    CONDITIONS:
The project has to exist on your hard drive. To see if it's hiding around somewhere go to:
Home (your name)>Movies>iMovie Library (right click and select Show Package Contents)
In the iMovie Library folder (the default is usually the date) open it to see if your Project is inside. If it is, you are in luck!
    RESTORING PROJECT:
    Open iMovie
start a new folder under the iMovie Library (again, the default is usually todays date)
    Close iMovie
In the finder window (as explained above in the CONDITIONS section) select the files and folders of your project and copy them (in my case these consist of folders called Analysis Files, Original Media, "MYPROJECT", Render Files, Shared Items)
There should now be a folder with today's date in that Show Package Contents folder.
Paste a copy of your project;s files into this folder.
When it is done copying, open up the "Original Media" folder and all of your images and clips should be present.
reopen iMovie. Your project should show up in the Libraries list.
*If your full project isn't showing in the iMovie timeline (mine just had empty bubbles where all my clips and audio should be) try dragging and dropping the clips and images from the project's "Original Media" folder into the import section of your project. Once the files were reimported, iMovie recognized them all and put them back in the correct place for me.
    Hope this helps someone!

  • Can't open my project in CS5.5

    Help!!!!!
I've just exported my old cs5 project in flash builder but it won't open in cs5.5 becaus of an error. I'm not a programer so have no idea what this means.
src\Main.mxml (995): Unexpected child: "swfcontroller1". Expected a compatible visual component.
src\Main.mxml (995): This tag may not have an ID.
    Line 995 is
    <fclib:SWFController height="602" id="swfcontroller1" includeIn="intro" loadForCompatibility="true" source="assets/images/waterdrops2.swf" d:userLabel="waterdrops" width="801" x="0" y="0"/>
    Any ideas?

Ok fixed it by deleting waterdrops2.swf in cs5 importing to flash builder, exporting as catalyst and adding the swf back again in catalyst cs5.5.
Now I have exactly the same problem as here http://forums.adobe.com/message/3740345?tstart=6 where my project appears blank in run_local but fine in a browser.
    This is soooooo frustrating
