Project in project / Timeline in timeline ?

With Premiere I could put timelines inside timelines, which was really handy for certain projects and reusing standard clips. Is this possible in FCPX?

How can I optimize just the video on a project timeline?

Hi everyone,
I've been working on a 1 hour documentary using original non-optimized media, now that I'm approaching the final steps of the edit I would like to optimize all the video in the timeline, but NOT all the footage I have in the events.
I did NOT optimized my media on import: all my events and project are made up of video non-converted, just imported. I did that because I didn't have enough storage to transcode to ProRes the whole 40 hours of footage.
The folders now full of media in Final Cut Events are the "original media" ones.
Now I'll add some title, subtitles and color-correction and I want to be a little more fast. Then I'll step in the "export" zone, and I know it is much better to export from optimized media than from original media, that's why I want a 'ProRes opimized media' project timeline.

This impossibility to transcote footage on timeline seem to me a big downside to this new version... I just have in mind all the options for managing media in FCP 7...

Adobe Premier Elements 12 - Exporting trimmed AVCHD files from the project timeline, to a separate folder for burning to Blu Ray disc with other software?

Hi, can anyone help please. This is the first time I have used this forum.
I use Premier Elements 12, a PC, 64 Bit, Windows 7, high powered computer.
Just started trimming AVCHD in this software.
I would like to know if it is possible to export trimmed AVCHD files to a folder elsewhere (files which were originally imported into the project timeline), so that I can burn the trimmed AVCHD files (not in 'Project' form) to Blu Ray disc (using another software which I know that works to burn video files to Blu Ray disc).

Thanks for the update. Your progress sounds very good.
Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 are similar. But, version 13 has significant feature removals and a new Elements Organizer.
So, when viewing or reading tutorials, try to determine the version of the program being used for the tutorials. As I typically write
principles tend to remain the same from version to version, but the features tend to move, change, or be discontinued from version
to version. And, it is frustrating to be armed with principles when you cannot find a feature.

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.

Analyze and fix not available in project timeline, fcpx

When I imported media into my event, I did not select Analyze and Fix but now want to use this function. Analyze and Fix is available when I have a clip selected the events library, but Analyze and Fix is grayed out and not available when I select a clip in my project timeline. According to a lynda.com tutorial, this feature should be available in the timeline. Does anyone know why or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Export only part of project,timeline

Is there option to export only few clips directly from project,timeline?.. When I go to share I can share only entire project.
Or I must duplicate project, and delete everything what I don't want to share?

Another method is to use the Range Tool (R key).
Select what you require and only the selected section will export.

Is there a way to see movie file names in imovie 10 project timeline?

I'm piecing together interviews in imovie and I'd like to be able to see, in my project timeline, which files are being used, and where. This would help me be sure that I've not used something twice, for example, since it's a long interview.

I might as well ask another question. If I were to make a 4 hr. timeline, but can only burn 2 hrs. to a DVD, is there a way to select pieces of the movie to share, but not the whole thing?

Delete project (Timeline) - Where does it go?

Whenever I delete a Project (Timeline) is instantly just disappears! It's not put in the Trash. I'm assuming it just gets deleted and frees up space on the hard drive. (VERY minimal, of course!)
Funny . . . you'd think Apple would have it go into the trash like other things you delete. So then you could change your mind? Maybe!
Wonder why they make this different than any other time you want to delete something? Obviously I'm missing something?
Anybody have an explanation, so I would understand it better? Thanks.

Yup.
All undos are remembered while FCP X is open.
I'd like to know of a multiple undo but have not found one.
The older legacy FCPro had a Revert to Original function that reverted a Project to it's last saved state in one press.
This seems to be the feature you would like?
I would like that to be availble as well.
Using Command-Z is pretty tiresome if you have been keyframing something to get it just right and there is about a gazillion moves involved.
That's where the Duplicate Project sort of does this job, you can trash the messy Project and start afresh from a selected Duplicated point.
There is always the FCP X Feedback request if you want to put it forward.

Is it better to trim in events or project timeline?

I have read through the manual, but haven't come across a good answer.... must have missed it.
Is it better to trim clips before you put them in the project timeline, or after, or doesn't it matter? Is there any space or processing time saved by using one or the other method?

OK, I'll take it back. If you have a few half hour long clips and put them all in the timeline and cut them up, yes that would bog the application down a lot. Then you'll really be better off making your selects in the browser. If your shots are reasonable length then you can cut where you like.

Final Cut Pro X project timeline vanished from project window.

I'm using Final Cut Pro X on my Intel based iMac running Snow Leopard. I was trimming a video file in the project timeline when the timeline vanished. The project window is there but the timeline is gone in all projects. Any ideas?

Same thing just happened to me, I can preveiw the project still, and no it is not a matter of zooming out. There is no enter full screen option in snow leapord. This is a huge issue and needs to be addressed ASAP!
The affected project is the music video, you can see that it is completely grey.
This is what it looks like when you open the project, no timeline. Just a grey area.

Is there a way to bring clips from a project timeline to an event library? I have about 10 jobs that i have in fcp7 that if i can drag the cut up clips on a timeline into and event library it would probably make me switch over completely to FCPX

You can only import cilps into an Event. So it's a non-issue.
You can't drag clips from an FCP 7 Sequence into an FCP X timeline, as far as I know.
You'll want to purchase "7toX". You can export your v.7 project as XML, translate it with 7toX, then import into v.X.

New project/timeline settings 568x320 ?

Hello, I am a complete newbie to premiere CS4.
I want to join together a series of 568x320, 29.97fps, IPhone .mov clips.
Can someone please tell me what the correct Premiere initial settings are for these files ?
I have been using the default settings which leave me with a large black area around the edge of the clips and when I export them the resolution is terrible, so I ovviously dont have the project/timeline settings correct.

You can set up a custom preset in the new sequence/general/desktop
But you will not be able to edit h.264 in a mov container very smoothly.
This issue was not resolved until CS5.

Loading content into project/timeline from http listener

I have an application which helps producers/researchers browse and search for video assets. Once they have located one or more assets, I would like to be able to "push" them over to Premiere Pro.
The browser is written in Silverlight, so the only mechanism it has to communicate with Premiere Pro would be via http. I think what I need is a plug in which has an HttpListener listening on a specific port, so that the silverilght application can post information (in edl/xml format) to the port the plugin is listening on. The plugin will then load the assets (mms video streams or files from uris) into the project and/or timeline.
I would like to write this either using Flex or the Premiere Pro SDK. I need it to run on both Windows and the Mac.
If anyone can provide any pointers, I would be very grateful.

Can you clarify this a little for me? If I understand what you have written, I have to create an XML file using FCP format which I save to local storage, then use something like SendMessage in another application to programatically initiate a drop sequence of the file onto the Premiere Pro window. I would have to write two applications, one for the Mac, and one for the PC, using Visual Studio and Objective C rather than use the SDK.
Is that correct?
Can you also tell me if a plugin written in Flash/Flex can communicate in any way with the application, such as to automate a file/open sequence. I ask this because I believe Flash can listen on an http port, and avoid the need for separate apps on the Mac and PC.
What you suggest appears possible, but tying it together in a way invisible to the user might be a bit tricky.

Premiere project timeline strobing when using windows search function..

Hi, I've been noticing a weird issue with Premiere and locked layers strobing/flickering on screen (on the actual timeline). What seems to set it off is if i have a project open, and then go into windows explorer and run the search function on a folder (searching for .avi's or .jpg's or whatever). Once windows starts searching (and after it stops as well) when I go back into Premiere everything starts flickering (most noticeably on the diagonal lines on locked layers in the timeline). It makes it almost impossible to scroll through your project with the flickering, and the only way to fix it is to shut down Premiere and restart. Has anyone else experienced this?
Yeah, I'm running on Windows XP Pro 64bit, and i'm sure that 'might' be the reason for it, but thought others may experience this as well on other Windows OS systems.

hey... yeah I've updated all my drivers. I was actually having this same problem in general with my old NVIDIA drivers back in January (with any locked layers in Premiere). When there was an updated driver released, it appeared fixed. It only comes up now if I do a windows file search as I mentioned before.
Maybe it is a NVIDIA graphics card thing?? Anyone else with this issue?
