Project length

On a discussion here recently, I thought someone said that iDVD can only burn projects up to 120 minutes, but twice recently I've been able to burn projects longer than that. What puzzles me is that, when I import the iMovie that is longer, I get a message saying that the project is too long - delete some content. However, if I go to project info and change to a dual layer disc, iDVD accepts the longer movie. I then insert a dual layer disc into my external drive, but, further confusing this issue, when I instruct iDVD to 'burn', I get a message saying something like 'you don't need a dual layer disc', which is clearly untrue since the project I'm burning is (say) 130+ minutes. Am I getting myself into trouble here, or is this just the way iDVD works? Many thanks.

Hi
Never seen this message as I only can burn SL-DVDs (old Mac).
but
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (vers 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
• Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
About double on DL DVDs. - Note ABOUT - May be even iDVD get's confused close to it's limits.

  • Motion project length for FCPX effects templates.

When creating a Motion Effect Template for FCPX, is there a recommend project length?  Is shorter better since the effect will change based on the clip length in FCPX? Or does it really matter as long as it is long enough to cover all included behaviors, etc?  Thank you.

Generally the 10 second default duration works quite well.

  • Cannot move the Project length marker! GB 10.0.2

Hi, I'm having problems moving the project length marker in my GarageBand 10.0.2 file.  I need to export 2 short tracks, and so I need to move the project length marker to the end of the short tracks before I export them.  But the project length marker stops at the end of the longest track even though the track is muted out...and this means I cannot move the project length marker to the proper position.  It worked fine and then it stopped working.  Please help!

Then mark the section of the song that you want to export with the cycle region. The end-of-song marker does not matter, if the yellow cycle region is active.  Only the cycle region will be exported.

  • Project length limitations?

I am trying to burn a dvd with iDVD. I have 5 - 21 min (give or take a min) videos which are about 175 mb (give or take) each. iDVD tells me that this is to large for it. Toast 7 can handle 5 without a problem. Has Apple put some restrictions on iDVD 6 in terms of project length?
    thanks

I tried with both, I thought I heard awhile ago, that
iDVD limits your videos to an hour, is that true?
iDVD is supposed to fit up to 2 hours of video to a DVD. After about 90 minutes the quality starts looking worse, though. Toast 7 uses AC-3 audio which provides more room for either better video quality on longer DVDs or the ability to fit more video to the DVD. Also, Toast 7 doesn't need to reserve much space as does iDVD for the menus. My opinion is that IDVD is awesome for DVDs up to 90 minutes on single-layer discs or 180 minutes on DL media.
This doesn't explain why your less than 2-hour project isn't fitting. Five 21-minute videos should fit.
You can monitor what's taking up the space in your iDVD project by choosing Project info in the Project Menu

  • Max Slide/Project Length?

Hello. I have a project that is VERY long (2 hours). I have one slide with a slide video that lasts 1352 seconds a/k/a 22 min and 32 seconds.
is there a max length per slide as well as per project? I'm having issues getting past 999 seconds. PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks,
    Mike

Sorry to disappoint, but there is no simple answer here. It all comes down to your encoding settings. You know H.264 vs. MPEG 2, data rates and all that... Can be 2 hours, can be considerably more if you want it to...

  • Project length? Depends who you ask.

In FCPX i created a standard def 30p video with a length of (h)01:00:01;00 and exported in h.264
Quicktime opens the file and in the play bar shows a length of 01:00:00
Media Inspector reports "Video Stream Length: 1h 0mn 1s 1ms"
Previously I'd created two 1080p 24p videos with lengths of (h)01:00:00;00 and exported in both ProRes422 and h.264
quicktime opens these files and in the play bar shows a length of 01:00:03 for each one of them,
Media Inspector reports "Video Stream Length: 1h 0mn 3s 600ms"
    Why the discrepancy? Thanks.

Thanks Tom, you basically solve the problem with your question.
Despite a lot of searching google and rooting around in fcpx i can't find the drop / non drop setting, except when starting a new project. However coming from a drop/non drop perspective, i know i'm editing the 30p (29.97) in drop frame, the 24p would be explained if it's 23.98p in non-drop frame, Media Inspector is likely giving accurate counts for both (and Quicktime is just being weird).
Given that I'm shooting Progressive and not broadcasting but sync / looping with flash media players, perhaps i should i be choosing to start new Projects in 30p & 24p instead of 29.97 & 23.98 .

  • AE CC - Timeline expands to project length after full screen preview

This seems to have only started happening recently, and it's a pain. After you preview an effect in full screen, the time navigator brackets are pulled to the very start and end of the video. You return from a fullscreen video preview to see your timeline extended over the whole duration of the project.
Is there some way to turn this off? I frequently work on small sections of a project, regularly watching full-screen previews to check how various changes look, and after the tenth or so time what starts as a minor irritation becomes completely infuriating. It seems like something easily fixed, but I've had no luck finding out how.
    Thanks in advance.

Ah, okay, this is a more interesting problem than I thought. Sorry I didn't put that info in before; my assumption was this was a poorly-considered feature which could be easily turned off and I was just too dumb to figure out how.
I'm on Windows 7 x64, running AE version 12.2.1.5 (as far as I'm aware this is the latest version). I haven't done anything dramatic with my PC lately or with AE settings. If it helps, I'm running with: an Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, using an Nvidia GeForce GT530.

  • IDVD project length error msg

I got and installed the MCE 16x Superdrive in my dual G5 tower. It's worked perfectly for several months now, burning CDs, DVDs, and DVD-DL perfectly. Now, all of a sudden, I wan't to burn a 2 hour and 2 minutes iMovie and I keep getting an error msg "Your project exceeds the maximum allowed content duration. You will not be able to burn your DVD"
Where is this coming from? I'm on 10.4.4 and iMovie HD and iDVD 5.0.1
As I said, it's all worked perfectly for a number of months but now, I seem to be limited to a 90 minute DVD again.

Well, I finally got through to MCE, and it seems that the OS upgrade to 10.4.4 made my computer now require a little patch for iDVD 5.0.1, which they promptly sent, it took 10 seconds to install, and now the 8 gig DL option appears in the iDVD "Project info" window.
Just so anyone else who has this happens will know what to do!

  • Maximum Project Length?

I'm having a little trouble with a big project that I need on DVD on Monday... And a friend has just told me there may be a time limit in DVDSP.
    Is this the case?
The DVD feature will be around 2hr 40min (currently it's 2hr38min, and will only get slightly shorter), will this fit at all on a DVD-5? My PowerMac has a DL drive, so I could fesably use a dual layer disc, but will this make any odds?
If this doesn't work I'll just split it over two discs. Not ideal, because its's being shown in front of 400+ people, but, oh well...
    Any answers much appreciated!

    Hey Andrew
i have to ask a few questions:
what is your material (as in video, is it interviews or a fast action paced movie?
i ask because if it is the former, then you can get away with a low bit-rate (so it can all fit on a disc) with average quality. if it is the latter, then i would recommend custom settings in compressor (half D1, a VBR, different motion estimation settings, etc.).
how critical is your quality i guess is the ultimate question since you already said that splitting your project into 2 disc was out of the question.
you also mentioned that you will screen your DVD. i have to ask, from a set top player correct? why not screen from a computer since it does have (depending on the place and your video card) the same outputs as a set top player? just a thought of course. you can emulate from a laptop for example and then you can just create a dvd-9 image and emulate from apple player!
    please let me know

  • Project length limitation in Logic Express?

I'm considering Logic Express. Playing with it on a machine at the store though, it appears that it has a 15 minute limit when recording audio? Is this a setting that can be changed somewhere, or is this really all it will record? I'm interested in using it to record my band live, and we play about 1 hour sets.
Anyone have any ideas how this could be lengthened, or is 15 minutes really it?

I Was reading about this on a blog and you should be able to up the recording time if you slow down your bpm.
    15min = 120bpm
    30min = 60bpm
    60min = 30bpm......so on
check this guy uses logic pro, indieguitarist.com
    hope this helps.

  • How do you adjust the length of a project?

Im currently working on a project and Logic won't let me extend my loops out past 4 minutes 50 seconds. Does anybody know how I extend the length of my project?

In the transport window below the tempo display you find the End point of your project. Maximum project length is 13 hours equaling 21601 Bars at tempo 120 or 901 bars at tempo 5.

  • How can I tell the length of an overall project in Captivate 5?

In Captivate 4, the project length appeared in the bottom left of the screen when you first opened the project.  By project length I mean the total time of all slides added up.

    Hi,
Normally it takes care of everything. Have a look at this blog post to have more details:

  • Project exceeds max length error; but just burned one that was even longer

I'm really confused. I'm receiving the "project length" is exceeded message but this video is shorter than one I just burnt earlier this morning. I'm under the time limit requirement. I've cut off intro/outro loops. Don't know what to try from here short of having to re-install stuff.
    Any thoughts?

I figured this out. The DVD Chapters had the loops set to 14 minutes for each page of them. I shortened it...problem solved.

  • 1:59 project - unequal audio and video lengths - unplayable DVD

I don’t know if this is a Final Cut Pro problem or a DVD Studio Pro problem.
I have a Final Cut Pro project that runs slightly under two hours. I have successfully rendered this project several times in the past (using Compressor’s 120 minute best quality settings), and successfully used DVD Studio Pro to burn playable DVDs from it.
My most recent version of the project increased in length from around 1:57 to 1:59:15. This time, when I rendered the project, the resulting audio file (.ac3) was several minutes longer than the video file (.m2v). The extra length at the end of the audio file was occupied by a repeat of a piece of the audio from earlier in the project. The Final Cut Pro project does not have this extra audio at the end.
Because the project length was so close to 2 hours, the extra audio caused the audio file to exceed 2 hours in length. Since I didn’t actually need this extra audio, I tried to work around the problem by shortening the audio track in the DVD Studio Pro timeline window: that is, I dragged the end of the audio track in the timeline to shorten it so that is was the same length as the video track. I then burned a DVD, but a message in DVD Studio Pro’s log window said that the file was “too long for the selected media”, and indeed the resulting disk was unplayable.
    My questions are:
    1. What could cause this extra audio to appear at the end of the rendered audio file?
    2. How can I either (a) prevent this from happening, or (b) work around the problem and successfully burn a DVD?
In the meantime, I’m trying to work around the problem another way by rendering the Final Cut Studio project using Compressor’s 150 minute best quality settings.

First, yes resample the narration to 48k 16 bit.  You will probably be able to reconnect to the resampled files.  Usually works for me.   That's a simple fix and will probably solve the problem.  If it doesn't, you can try to change the codec (compressor) in the sequence settings to prores 422HQ, fully render and see if that solves the problem.
Wait, just reread your original post.  Export from fcp using file:  export:  quicktime movie NOT quicktime conversion with current settings.  If that works without synch issues, use compressor to convert to prores.

  • Trimming length of project

I have created an imovieHD project from still frames with a soundtrack. By some inadvertent means I had taken a single still frame and placing well past the end of the soundtrack which resulted in a video with twice the desired length [the remainder is black]. I removed the errant frame but the remaining 3+ minutes of black remain. I cannot select the empty space (frames) in order to cut them. I cannot select the end of the empty timeline to change the length. Any suggestions, short of importing the exported video and editing it?

I was having this issue, too, and after hours of searching finally found this answer elsewhere in the forum: "control-click in the [empty space of the] time line and, in the resulting drop down menu, select 'Convert Empty Space to Clip', and then delete that clip."
The user who posted that tip also suggested restarting your Mac, but I found that unnecessary. As soon as I converted the empty space to a clip and deleted it, my project length equalled the total length of all my clips. Delightful!
As far as I can tell, this feature is documented exactly nowhere in iMove HD 6 help. Amazing omission. Anyway, to help others find this tip, I'd also like to throw in the keywords: trim off end of movie, get rid of gray area in timeline, shorten movie to actual content length.
Hope you found this answer useful. Happy HD 6 producin', everyone!
