In my project library, when I have several clips how can i select one clip to export for movie. Everytime I select a clip the whole prject plays.

You can't. Sharing and exporting is applied to the entire project and not to sub-segments. You can, however, either create a second project with only the content you want to export or, if it is easier, simply duplicate the project and then remove all unwanted content before exporting/sharing the modified new project.

If it was working on 10/1, why not open up the most recent backup library with a timestamp of that day. Unless you specified otherwise, your backup folder is in Movies in your home folder. You can double-click one to open it in FCP.
The update command actually wants a mounted drive selected.
I suggest not going into the library bundles and moving or modifying folders/files except as a last resort. It sounds like both libraries are corrupted.

Suddenly my project window has no scroll bars, and if I return to the project library, select my project and click edit, another project LIBRARY appears partially covering the project window. Help.

In the middle of making a movie, the scroll bars vanished in the project window and I could no longer navigate at all. If I went to the project library and selected the project, another image of the project library slid in and entered onto my screen. after repeated attempts to open the project in various ways, I have it now, but there are holes in the project window (blank background) and no scroll bars. It does not respond to anything.
can someone help?

I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible. When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip. ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

Help clearing project library

Hello all,
I'm trying to make the gradual leap into interactivity by learning Flash Catalyst CS5. That being said, I've made the mistake of importing a few of my compositions from Illustrator multiple times. I'm now trying to clean up my project library, but can't seem to delete a folder from the project library, only single items at a time. I can't express how irritating it is going to be down the line if I import an illustrator file with say...50 elements, and have to delete them individually from my library as opposed to just trashing the entire folder in one move.
Any tips?

I'll add to this and perhaps be able to avoid having duplicates in my library in the first place...
To start off with: I've been importing .AI files.
In several instances, I have had to delete the state which I imported the file into, which removes the elements from the state, but not the library obviously. Now, I have all of those elements in the library, but cannot recreate the state with all of my formatting from illustrator unless I re-import the .AI file, which in turn creates a duplicate in the library.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'd really like to learn the most efficient ways to use Catalyst, but keep running into terribly INefficient pitfalls like this.

Open VI Reference for a Project Library VI

Hi,
my code calls some subVIs by reference by using "Open VI Reference" and "Call by Reference" VIs. Now, "Open VI Reference" expects a path to the VI:
When the SubVIs sit in the same folder as the calling VI, it is easy to simply supply the name of the SubVI. However, I would like to call a SubVI that is part of a project library sitting somewhere else on the disk. I could give the relative path, but this make the code pretty inflexible and if the relative path changes all the paths would need to be ammended. Ideally, I want to utilize the fact that I am using a project library. The help for Open VI Reference states that
vi path accepts a string containing the name of the VI that you want to reference or a path to the VI that you want to reference. If you wire a name string, the string must match the full delimited name of a VI in memory on that target. If you wire a path, LabVIEW searches for a VI in memory that you previously loaded from that path on the same target.
I thought that the underlined path was my ticket and tried something like this:
but this did not work and I got
"Error 1004 occurred at Open VI Reference in MainVI.vi:
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: The VI is not in memory.
To load a VI into memory with the Open VI Reference function, a path must be wired for the VI Path input."
Wiring a path is not desirable as per reasoning above. Is there a way around the issue?

Hm, thanks, I am not advanced enough to know about classes and XControls, but I will check it out. My VIs are part of a library but obviously don't get loaded because, as you said, all their calls are dynamic.

Hm, this actually gives me an idea! I could add an enable input to all these dynamically called VIs so that the logic runs only when enable is ON; otherwise the VI is called but does nothing. Then I call the VI first statically with enable=OFF just to load it in memory and then proceed with my dynamic call. A little ad-hoc, but should work and serve my purposes, I think.

How do I move Files from Event Library to Project Library? I tried drop and drag, that didn't work. I am new to Apple. I have always had a windows box b4 this. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks

you're missing the concept of iM .. you don't move 'files' from Event to Project Library.. Events is the big box of all your imported clips; now, from that box of bricks, you drag the clips into all kind of projects.. you can 're-use' the same clip again'n again in many projects.. you can use all clips of all Events in one Project.. or all clips of one Event in two projects.. or..

the concept of Events & Projects, Clips and Libraries is at first glance very different to 'normal' editing apps, but you'll get convenient to it within minutes..

How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library? I can't double click on folder, when I right click it just gives options to erase. Can someone help?

I think you may have misunderstood - the question is regarding renaming a project "folder", not a project name.
Still, the accepted answer here makes no sense to me at all - it's about renaming an event. So we're all confused ;-)
BTW as of 10.0.5, I still cannot rename a project folder while background tasks are running - no clue is given that this is what's going on, second-clicking on the folder just (frustratingly) does nothing. When background tasks finish, it works again.

Can I place my preferred folders from my machine into Captivate project library?

I have created a SWF(it may be of 2.0 or 3.0 versions) file which loads images and audio files dynamically from a source folder using XML and JavaScript.
I want that SWF file to play in my captivate project.
Is that possible ?
Or can we place the source folder in captivate project library and interact the SWF file to the source folder ?
Please give me the possible solutions for my requirement....

thank you for your reply.
They were originally in "Computer - Users - (my user name) - Pictures - iPhoto library *show package contents* - Import
(auto import folder is still in the iPhoto library if that makes a difference)
when i originally removed the import folder to my desktop. i closed iPhoto, reopened it, and everything worked fine. Now that i've put it in my trash and reopen iPhoto, everything is still fine and intact. I was just afraid things might change once i hit 'empty trash'. Also, once i hit yes to emptying the trash, i get the message that "there are some locked items in the Trash. Do you want to remove all the items, including the locked ones, or just the unlocked items?"
my gut feeling is that the import folder is just filled with junk that originated from my windows that my iPhoto won't recognize. but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Packed Project Library error: contains compiled code

I was trying to figure out how the packed library works for LVOOP, but face a wall with an error and don't know how to solve it.
i) I made a class 'Class 1', which I then put in a library called 'library'.
ii) I create a Packed Library and set the top-level library in the source files
iii) Once compiled and saved, I create a new project and add the newly create Packed Project Library to it. Second I add a newly create class, named 'Class 2'.
iv) I set the inheritance of the Class 2 as a child of Class 1.
v) select new VI for Override
vi) get Error 1035
What am I doing wrong or how to solve this?

The default setting for packing VIs into lvlibp's will remove the block diagram.
You must not remove the block diagram for dynamic dispatch VIs you are going to override.

Moving file from event library to project library

Here's my situation. I have a slideshow as a .wmv file (I used Flip4Mac to view in QuickTime); used QuickTime Pro to save it as a .mov file. I imported it into iMovie so I can ultimately save it on my iPad. But for the life of me, I cannot seem to get this file into the Project Library to export it. Can anyone help? Am I missing a step? (That's an obvious question, I must be missing something, since I cannot export.)

You may have done this already, but you need to use QuickTime Pro to convert the wmv file to an iMovie capable format, like h.264 or Apple Intermediate Codec. I say this because an MOV file can also contain uneditable codecs.
Having done that, you import the mov file into an iMovie Event.
Next you must create a new project and give the project a name.
Then you can select a clip or a portion of a clip or multiple clips from the event and drag it to the Project window. Then you can edit as desired and when you are done, use the Share menu.

Packed project library 1003 error when building it

Hi,
I am trying to build packed project library, but I get 1003 error. I have tried all things suggested in other threads regarding the 1003 error, but nothing helps.
My two project HardwareSpecificFunctionalities and ModuleTemplate are attached. HardwareSpecificFunctionalities PPL is used in the ModuleTemplate's VIs. When I am trying to build ModuleTemplate PPL I get 1003 error saying that one VI is broken, but actually it is not. If I remove the ReadOffset.vi from the AcquisitionInitialization_Main.vi, the ModuleTemplate PPL is build successfully.
Have anybody an idea what is wrong?

I just noticed that in document LabVIEW 2011 and 2011 SP1 Known Issues (http://www.ni.com/white-paper/13164/en#323425_by_Category) it is stated that this bug will be fixed in LV 2012 (32 bit).
This version of LV will be available in August 2012.
All workarounds that are known, are the one that are described in this link.

Hi José,
2 considerations:
The first one is that (as you experienced) one should not delete or rename any of the predefined columns in the risk/issue list. What you did is the right way, meaning keeping the native column as is and creating new ones based on the business needs. Finally
you just need to create view with the appropriate fields.
Then for importing risks from an Excel list, I can't test it right now, but you should have a datagrid view (MS Access type) allowing you pasting data from Excel.

Event Library to Project Library

Can you create an event library using clippings from the Project Library? I know you can do the opposite, but I can clip, drag and drop from Project to Event Library.

When you import video into iMovie, it is stored in the Event Library.
This is where all your raw unedited video is kept.
Next create a project: File > New Project (choose a name and aspect ratio) > Create.
Now you have a blank project in the Project Library.
Start moving/dragging selected clips or portions of clips from the Event Library into your new project.
Now you can edit and apply effects etc.
When you are finished export your movie via the Share menu.

Hi, Is there any way to import more then just a few clips into the project library, Maybe the whole movie all at once? It takes a long time taking a few clips at a time. Any help would be great!

sidenote, nomenclatura : you drag clips to a Project, not the Project Library..
you can add all clips from one Event into a Project..
• click into the black background of the Event's Preview
• hit Apple-A (='all')

Web Service Import Error - Can't Create Project Library

I'm haiving an issue importing a particular .NET web service using the import wizard. I'm running .NET 2.0 framework and LV8.2. I have followed this tutorial and successfully got a few simple services working. I can successfully import an use simple web services like this one with no issues, but when I attempt to import a local web service I keep experienceing the same error at the end of the import, the error is:
The following errors/warnings occurred when generating the local proxy dll and VI wrappers for this web service.
Can't Create Project Library.
Project Library Generation Failed.
Possible Reasons:
1) The imported project library has a conflicting name with a project library already in memory.
2) The imported VIs have conflicting names with VIs already in memory.
Close the project library and VIs and reimport the Web Service.

I seriously doubt that the error is actually caused by 1 or 2, I think this is just the default message for some other error. I have cleaned all previous failed projects from the userlibs and opened and closed the program, restarted etc... I have also tried this and got the same error with another machine running .NET 1.1 and LV8.2, same error.
The service's WSDL page seems to be working correctly, LV sees the availble functions and lists them correctly for import, it just always fails when creating the DLL wrappers.
I have included the WDSL XML file for reference.
Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Hi Adam,
Some of the functions in your project library may have the same names as some of the inbuilt functions in LabVIEW or any loaded functions in the memory.
Try closing down all other programs and see if it works.
What are the names of the functions you are using?
You may have to rename them to remove the naming conflict, but you did mention that you don’t think that it’s because of one of those reflected conflicts!!
SubVIs being generated may have the same name as some LabVIEW inbuilt functions which may be causing the problem.
Could you please provide the header file to see the names of the functions?
