PROJECT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE - MAC OS X & MS-PROJECT

Hi Folks,
I need some advice!
I am looking for some good Project Management Software to run on my MAC OS X. Mostly, I will do be doing Gantt Charts, Critical Path, Resource Loading, Task Creation, Etc. My clients typcially run MS-PROJECT on PCs--so I will need to have some type of import/export compatibility with MS PROJECT.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Johnny O

jxProject, Intellisys Project Desktop, PMX, and SharedPlan are a few.

  • Free Project Management Software for Mac or windows!

    Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good project management software that does more than what Microsoft project does and is freely available? I mean one that has a local application but also can update updates to the web side of the software? I saw sharedPlan which is really good so far but its not freely available. It runs on Mac and Windows but really looking for a windows version as all my team members only use windows.
So I guess am asking for one that's open source?
    Please let me know.

You might want to check out Wikipedia page and look for open source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparisonof_project_managementsoftware
The only free tools that I know of are web based such as Zoho projects, Basecamp etc..
Or you can always download and use for 30 days tools from:

I'm looking for a Project Management software for MAC ?

Good place to look for software:
    http://www.macupdate.com/
And for free alternatives to some popular software packages:

(If you see an ad there for something called MacKeeper, ignore it and on no account install it - it is malware.)
And there is of course also the App Store!

  • Best project management software for mac

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best project management software or strategic planning software for imac??
    Thanks

If you are willing to spend money on professional tool with free support, if the team get's large, I would ask you to look at ConceptDraw Project. If you are dead set on open source and "free" software I would say that Redmine, Bugzilla or any other that has been around a while, and looking for plugins to make it suit your needs is one of your best bets.

  • Project management software advice

Hello - I work for a small company - half Mac users and half PC - and we need to get project management software which is compatible with MS Project - any advice please? Cheers Simon

    Try
    Merlin
    <http://projectwizards.net/en/merlin/>
    You can also try
    Open Project
    <http://sourceforge.net/projects/openproj/>
but I don't know if it's still in active development. OmniPlan can import MS Project files, but I don't know if that's practical for your needs.
In a Mac/Win environment, the only practical solution may be to run MS Project in a virtual machine like Parallels or Fusion, or perhaps virtualised with CrossOver.

  • Project Management Software Options

Does anyone know of good project management software? I recently joined an advertising firm and am responsible for scheduling projects and keeping track of client info. What I need is a program or programs that will allow me to track projects, schedule due dates, etc. and enter client info and keep track of client daily interactions (phone calls, faxes, meetings).
If you're using something you like please let me know. Any suggestions are appreciated.

No, I coudn't find an appropriate forum. I wanted to post it on a general software discussion but couldn't find one. Sorry, I'll try elsewhere.

  • InDesign Project Management Software

We are working with inDesign CS4 on a 80 page field services industry publication.  We are struggling keeping articles and advertisements managed before, during and after editing and layout.  Does anyone now of a project management software for magazine publications?

    Hi Mitch,
I've spent the last few years researching software project management solutions in another specialized field, and I think that you're missing the boat when you're thinking about software. If you don't know how to manage the information you already have with just whiteboards & manilla folders and the like, you're going to be at a severe disadvantage when trying to shop around for a prefab database that will manage your workflows on your behalf.
Check out this discussion of PM tactics; there's some good food for thought.
    http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=000076
Of course, if your information is already in disarray, and your workflows are already being pushed along manually, then of course the idea of managing it with software is appealing. However, you'll best be able to ask those questions ("How are y'all doing it? Because we're doing it with hand-drawn Gantt charts on whiteboards") if you already have a system. If you don't already have a system that you want to replace, then you're best off hiring someone who is not only a DB dev but who is also familiar with the ins and outs of project management. That person can spend a few days/weeks learning what you have instead of a workflow, and can then build a software-based workflow around your organization's activities.
With about 35 ads and 45 articles we are having a hard time keeping up with what has been received from contributors and writers, whats in layout, 2nd edits, 3rd edits etc.... and feel we need something to help us stay organized outside what inDesign does.
As a database-workflow-managin' pro, it's my feeling that you don't need something, you need someone. And that someone is the person to ask, "How do I shop for a software-based workflow management app?"

  • Which project management software is best, which project management software is best

Which project management software is best for my macbook pro?

In order to give you a solid recommendation, we'd need to know what needs you have.
What type of project are you planning on managing?
    What size of team?
    Timeline?
    Extent?
What are some things you need to manage (emails, phone calls, stages, tasks, phases, etc)?
Without any of this, it's hard to give you a recommendation, as EVERYTHING will work on your MacBook Pro, especially if you have Windows dualbooted.
However, I can tell you that the best project management software I've used to date (and continue using) is JobNimbus. It's both CRM and project management software, very easy to use, and the pricing is way lower than others I've seen.
Give that a try (they have a 30-day trial) and try to reply back with more info so we can help you out a little bit better.
    Cheers

  • Looking for a Project Management software package for macs

while I'm on the hunt for some good business software for my mac, I am also looking for a good project managment program, in the spirit of MS Project, but "Apple-ized".
Open to suggestions from somebody with experience.

My company has a web-based project productivity management software called ActiveFocus which works on any type of machine.
Check out the demo and let me know what you think: http://www.activefocus.net/AFDemo/AFLogin.aspx
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

My company is looking for software that can be "bolted on" to Oracle Projects to provide more robust project managment functionality. We already know of two (Microsoft Project and Primavera), but we'd like to hear from other companies who may have implemented other solutions.

    James:
I've been involved on 2 projects that included integration into Projects. On both occasions Oracle's Activity Management Gateway (AMG) was used. AMG is the open interface for Projects. We used it on one occasion with Primavera Expedition to load budgets and the WBS and on another with MS Excel to upload budget information. ODBC and AMG was used on the MS Excel project.

  • Project management software?

I am looking for a package that works well, adheres to the Mac look and feel and otherwise helps to plan a project.
Gannt charts and other graphical representations are the key. I want to represent the different work streams so everyone can 'see' the project. Critical path analysis and other project management features are important if it impacts how people can visualize the project. I am not trying to micro manage the resource costs or other details so I can sacrifice some features for ease of use.
    Your thoughts and specific recommendations?

    Thanks.
    Do you have a favorite?
I noticed that Merlin is integrated with NovaMind so I can create a mindmap and then use the mind map to start building the project plan.
I happen to use OmniFocus so I am familiar with the Omni Group. No experience with OmniPlan. Actually, I knew one of the founders back when they were a NeXT developer.

  • Is there a project management software for the IMAC

  • Is Oracle Project Management has all features which Microsoft Project Plan?

    Hello Experts,
Customer wanted to start using Oracle Project Management suit completly along with little Microsoft project plan. as of now most of the projects are using microsoft project plan for project management and Oracle Project suit is for Costing and Billing.
But in order to start this initiative, we need to explain the difference which Oracle Project Management can not able to do but Microsoft project plan can. Based on this management will take the decesion.
As per my understanding, Orace Project Management can perform all the tasks except scheduling. As it supports scheduling from third party software like Microsoft project plan / primavera etc.
Rest I think Oracle Project management suit is equally matured to perform all the project management task which Mircosoft project management can perform.
So experts , can you please confirm my understanding and provide me some light on this topic.
    Thanks :-)

    Hi,
First of all, I would like to know what are the various things you are performing with a Microsoft project plan apart from scheduling the resources to a specific project .
Through Oracle Project Management, you can control the visibility of a resource, assign it to a particular project and control the tracking of the time in various assignments. If that is what you are trying to achieve through Oracle Project Management icnluding the other features it has, you can surely go for it.
Let me know if you have any doubts on it.

  • IDVD burning one project on multiple macs? where are project contents?

How do I burn one project on multiple macs? I have a idvd project I created in keynote, added music to it in Garageband, exported to quicktime, and now is in iDVD burning just fine. However I have tons of these dvd's to make, I would like to put all my mac's to work.
last night i tried to share the file, and it is just an alias when i drag it over from the macbook it was created on to my imac. the file says it is in use and locked, since the macbook that created it is burning it. If I wanted to brun on the imac, I had to wait until the macbook was done.
is there a way around this? What if I copied all files I used to make the idvd project to my imac or any computer i wanted to burn on? woudl it hen allow two macs to be burning the same project?
I figured I could do this just like on my PC, drag the file over and voila...no such luck, its like if i had dragged a shortcut over to another pc...if the first one is using the file, its locked. Basically how do i get to the actual contents of the project, so I can also bring them over and hopefully it will allow me to burn on multiple macs at the same time?
my next solution if that didn't work was to start copying dvd's using popcorn on the other macs while the macbook continues burning through idvd.
Any opinions on how i can duplicate a dvd fast...need alot of copies!

Also as to where the files are.
I-DVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as
having a server networked into your computer.)
