Project Manager fails to copy clips

Hi,
I'm trying to consolidate a project using the project manager in CS4. I've tried both options (create trimmed and copy all to new location), and they both fail to copy the two video clips I use in the timeline.
The clips are mp4, and I can just place them in the new folder, but I'm curious why it is not being done automatically?
Thanks

Joe,
I have only seen this with SmartSound Audio Clips, when they were located in folders outside of the Project. To date, all other Assets, including stills (so long as they are within the folder hierarchy for the Project), have been archived.
When within the Project's folder hierarchy, all work well for me, but then I do not use anything MP4, though cannot image how that would affect things.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Project Manager does not slip clips in timeline (references pre-trimmed timecode)

Using project manager to trim down 100GB worth of ProRes 444 footage, the footage gets trimmed and imported back into the project fine using no handles but the clips on the timeline still reference the timecode of the old pre-trimmed media. All the clips on the timeline are crosshatched.
As I set it to trim with no handles I can slip each clip to the start but if there were any handles on the trimmed media this would be a nighmare.

    Hi benita,
It should be working as expected, sorry you are having trouble. It looks like the common denominators are ProRes footage and Premiere Pro CC (7.1). This is happening on both Mac and PC.

  • Project manager will not copy project

After finishing a long 45 minute project i want to save and archive, but near the end of the yellow bar finishing it comes up error please try again we could not copy files... Anyone.. Steve

I've never used Elements, so I can't offer any kind of comparison.
For archiving a Premiere Pro project, you will need to keep the project file itself along with any associated media - video, audio and stills.  If you have Dynamic Links to After Effects you will need that AE project file as well.  If you authored to DVD or BD you will want the associated Encore files also.  Move these things to your preferred location using a file manager.

  • Why are there no clips showing in the project manager when I have clips in the timeline?

    PLEASE HELP
I have no idea whats going on here but how can there be clips without anyting listed in the event section?
    Anyone have any answers here?

I have no idea what it is that you are asking.
I guess, it's about this area:
your material in use in that project should be listed here.
    BUT …
make sure, the search-filter doesn't contain SPACES!
look in my screen-shot - 3 'nixes' = no clips (matching)
taking screen shots with a camera (plus flash!) is … cute

  • Is Project Manager Capable of Copying EXS Lib. to PB?

I've recently bought a PowerBook and I am trying to get a subset of my sample library loaded on the PB's internal drive. Seems like an easy task for PM, right?
Well, according to the help file shipped with Logic 7.1, there was a new function added to PM to accomplish just this - Copy EXS Instruments and used samples....
Here are the short commings I've found with this feature:
    1. Users cannot select multiple folders in PM to run this function on. This means either:
    a) You have to execute this function for every EXS instrument or folder containing EXS instruments you want to move to your PB.
    -or-
    b) You have to physically copy your EXS instruments into a separate folder to so the function can be run once, affecting only the files you want on your power book.
Ok, not too bad, but, (and here is the utterly absurd part of this process) -- This function does not maintain your folder structure!!! It copies all EXS instruments to one folder! Leaving you to sort it out by hand!?!
So surely this can't be right, I must be doing something wrong because I can't believe Apple would write a function into their software with such disregard to its real world application.
Is there an alternative solution to copy a subset of EXS instruments to your PowerBook?

    Hi Jim,
thanks for this information - does that mean that I won't be able to condense any of my AVCHD projects then? That's a shame.

  • CS4 Project Manager not trimming clips.

Will premiere pro cs4 project manager trim the source clip file size based on in and out points?
I could swear I have done this before last year. When I do a project manager trim is creates a folder, changes the name of the file, but doesn't change the original size.
I created a project and imported just one clip , trimmed in from 1min to 5 seconds and dropped in into a timeline. After the proj mgr export the file wasn't trimmed in the new folder at all. I tried adding handles.

Thanks Jim. That little tid bit doesn't show up in the on-line help.

  • Project Manager & RAID 0 config

    hi
i have Mac Pro with 250G Bay1 HD as boot + applications incl LP
    i also have 2 X 500G in Bay 2 + 3 set-up in RAID 0 configuration where LP projects reside
in browse mode, project manager sees the audio files in proper Volume directory but not the songs
i did an expanded scan twice with no luck
btw, i have no problem uploading the songs in LP since the projects are all there intact in Finder, it's just that project manager fails to recognize them
    is this normal?
does project manager only look for song info in User/Home/Music/Logic ?
right now i store projects in RAID volume/Logic folder
should i have created a "Music" folder above the "Logic" folder ?
    many thanks

I believe there are some significant bugs in project manager. I have two identical internal barracuda drives in my mac pro (exc system drive), bought, installed and formatted at the same time: drive A for samples and audio and drive B for audio and song files.
For some reason project manager will "see" the songs on drive B no matter what I do. I've tried everything including only scanning drive B, deleting project manager database etc etc. I've even looked at the permissions of the drives and files and they are identical in nature.
There are no raids involved here. If I copy over the song files to drive A they are found by the PM. Its just weird. I'm pretty much stumped and I've given up trying. I'd love to know if there is a fix for PM weirdness.

  • Feature Request: Project Manager Trim Compatibility with all formats please!

It's 2013, Premiere Pro CC is out, and is more "Final Cut Pro" than ever (thanks Adobe), but there are still some basic things that need to be fixed. This is a DOOZY!...
With DSLR media being used pretty much everywhere, the inability to created trimmed projects using Project Manager for H.264 clips (and GoPro clips, and more!) is simply insane. Seriously?
    Help me Adobe.... please...

Actually, Kevin works right across the San Francisco Bay from where I live. So yes, he is here in the USA.
You will occasionally get some answers around here from people with Indian names, but we are happy to have them on the forums.
The conversation about how to deal with the various codecs has been going on for some time, and the more people who request the feature, the more likely they will get it done. I don't like to say that the squeeky wheel gets the grease, but pretty much? It does!
I know they are thinking about it because of some of the comments I have seen and emails I have received. It appears to be fairly complicated, but personally, I think it is well worth the effort.
I would like to be able to ingest subclips from Prelude without transcoding (I don't use Prelude because it is useless to me without this feature). Once ingested, if I only use part of a clip, I want it trimmed in the Project Manager to just the footage I might need in the future if I have to make minor adjustments. And yes, that includes handles. So if handles solve part of the problem, that's fine.

  • Project Manager and Reverse problems.

    Hey there,
I am working on a timeline and when I media manage it I am getting the zebra stripes for some clips that reversed speed. The clip will be freeze framed for a while depending on length. I don't believe it's for every one, but we have had issues with this for multiple projects.
    Info:
    1080P ProRes 422 timeline.
    All footage transcoded to 422.
I don't think it happens on clips which are nested.
I believe it's only reversed clips.
At this point I'm pursuing workarounds, and will post them if I find them, but can someone explain why this is coming up?
    Edit on,
    -AKChannel

Hey you know what that might be the case. Our current solution is just to bake the file through AME, as I'm not sure if render and replace would bake in the speed change. I just spoke to a coworker of mine and she had a couple of clips do the same when using project manager.
For the record, here is a couple more notes which may help.
We used to get the same danger stripes issue when media managing Atomos Samurai footage. Transcoded clips through AME worked fine, but interviews done on Samurai footage which was not-transcoded would pick the wrong in-out points for trimming a project through project manager.
Also, the clips I'm using may or may not be transcoded through AME. In my coworkers instance, she was using 7Q footage 4k-HD ProRes (transcoded in the recorder). In my case it was a 240fps 2kRAW clip which was transcoded to Pro Res via Resolve.
I hope that helps and doesn't make things more confusing.
I'm going to mark this question as answered for now, but will try to contact this forum again if something else comes up.

  • CS4 Project manager creates a double copy of footage when there's a subclip. Is this a bug?

    Hi all,
Although I think I can solve this for my project by changing the clip link, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.
I used the project manager to collect all files. It makes a double copy of a 5 GB footage file. It makes an exact copy of the footage adding a _001 to its name. The duplicated file is made for a subclip. The extra copy seems unneeded. The subclip can be linked to the original footage file just like it is linked in the original project.

No It isn't. It is DV  in an .AVI file. I used Collect files so the files shouldn't be trimmed. An identical full length copy of the file was made for the subclip.
I solved it by making the subclip of the new collected project offline and then relinking it to the original file. Then I deleted the extra identical 5 GB file that the project manager created.

  • Project Manager error--copy & collect

We are trying to collect files & copy to new location through Project Manager in PPro CS5.  We exclude unused clips and made sure the destination has plenty of free space.
On 3 separate projects on 2 different Windows 7 machines, we have the same problem.  It starts working, then eventually gives us an error "An unknown error occurred during the Project Manager operation.  Please save your project and retry the operation."  We've tried saving to a different destination, closing PPro, opening and trying again---all with the same result.  It consistently gives us the error, but seems to give us the error at different progress points.
I've seen other posts that mention similar problems and solutions, but since this is happening to us across multiple machines and projects it appears that ours is a different problem.  Our projects are fairly simple, no major effects, just some .mts, .m2t, and jpeg files.  This process used to work for us without a problem. Please advise.

In practice, if you have moved several files from location A to location B, when you open the project, Premiere throws up a dialogue box asking for the location of one of the files.  If you locate that file, Premiere automatically links to all the rest of the files you moved to B.
There is also a useful little check box in the dialogue box, which if ticked shows only exact file name matches.  This did not always work in CS4, but seems fine in CS5.
It is better to do the re-linking at this stage because if you do not, once the project is open, you have to re-link each asset individually, which is a pain.
In the days of SD, with avis and much smaller hard dirives, the crate a trimmed project function was useful as you could save only those parts of captured clips that you needed, but with the more highly compressed mpeg etc files, Premiere no longer trims the captured video, but merely copies the entire file to a new location, as far as I can see.

  • Project manager copying issues

I have a largish project - about 140gb of media (made up of about 20 individual media files).
Out of this I have edited 15 videos. These are edited onto 15 different sequences (with a nested sequence for each of them as they are multi-cam edits).
I have used at least a small part of each of the media items in the edits, but there is also a lot of unused footage. I have tried to use the Project manager to make a condensed copy of the project. I have selected all the sequences as 'sources' and have checked the 'exclude unused media' box (to try and condense the size of the project).
Premiere goes through the process of analysing and copying the media ok (as ion there are no errors during the process), HOWEVER, when I open the condensed project not all of the used media has copied. In the nested sequences some of the clips have grey stripes (diagonal backwards) on them and just show as black in the media viewer.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this an error?
Any help would be greatly appriciated, thanks!

  • Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are still frames captured within a video event.

Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event.  I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events.  I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills.  ABout 50 of them,  When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them.  So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it.  (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff).  Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else.  Do you know a way around this?

  • Best way to export clips with effects, like project manager

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody, cause this is my first post, thanks in advance for your help.
    The problem:
I'm running adobe premiere pro cs06 on a mac and what I want to do seems simple but is very difficult. I import material from an Alexa camera, putting all the clips to the timeline and add some effects to the clips, too.
Now I want to export all changed clips with the same codec, filename and timecode, just like I can do, when I use the project manager to consolidate my files.
So the goal is an easy way to add effects and export same as source?!
    Again thank you very much
    Cheers
    Bird

Thank you for your answers so far,
First I dont want to export to the arriraw format, what I want to export to is prores444. The reason why is simply because there are some effekts that might speed up my workflow, let me explain:
Most jobs I do the following, I work as a DIT and colorcorrect footage from lots of cameras on set and export them to any kind of codec using davinci resolve.
The most time consuming progess is the neutralizing of all the different camera models..
With plugins like re:match from re:vision it could save me some time, due to its good auto correction, which would give me a good starting point for my further colorcorrection.
But in order to be faster than my normal way, I need to have some auto or same as source export funktion. Although when the clips match the original metadata I will have no problems in the later stages of my workflow.
