Project pauses unexpectedly...sometimes

I'm working on a project that involves a software simulation, and when I presented it to my boss, she asked me to make sure that one of the click-boxes that I had programmed actually did what it is supposed to do in the software, even though the next slide still needed to be the same screen as the one I just clicked on. So I added a couple of new slides and input the necessary screen shots on those slides, and kept them as .jpgs, rather than merging them into the background. I set the jpg on the first slide to fade out (.5sec) and the slide timing to 1sec. The second jpg, which is the original screen again, then has no transition, the slide also lasts for 1 sec, and then resumes the presentation where I'd originally had it programmed.
The first time I ran this project this morning, in "preview project" mode, the project stalled on the fade-out of the jpg, and I had to use the controls to advance the project. After I had tweaked a different slide, I re-ran the project in "preview next n slides", "preview project" and "preview in browser" and it worked fine each time.
I've had other issues with fade transisitons, both item and slide, pausing the project. Anyone have any ideas why this happens or how to fix these transitions so they don't go crazy once I've published the course to our LMS?

Can you take a screen capture of the offending slides and insert here? (Please don't attach and use the Camera icon instead so we may see them immediately).
Normally the only way to pause a Slide is to have a Click Box, Button or Text Entry Box object on it.

Recovering Projects/Aperture Unexpected Quit

I just updated Aperture to 2.1.3. Upon starting up Aperture, it goes into a "Recovering Projects" mode that lasts for an hour. At some point during the validation of the projects, Aperture unexpectedly quits. I've tried rebooting, but I get the same results every time. Does anyone else have this problem?

It sounds like maybe you have a corrupt image in the Library. Try Importing small sets of images into new Projects so you can isolate the corrupt image. If this is the case, you'll be able to run fine after that image is deleted.
You might try with a New Library since the Image could be somewhere in your Library already.

Why does rs.next() pause for sometime while retrieving records

I'm trying to read records from the result set.
At some point the rs.next() gets stuck.
It takes lot of time to execute the rs.next() but the records are finally retrieved.
Could some one tell me why this happens.
I'm using a PreparedStatement to execute the query.

Maybe because the database returns records in batches rather than one at a time to the JDBC driver, so that after you process the first 200 records, there's a pause while it fetches the next 200? You can sometimes affect this behaviour by using the setFetchSize() method.
Or maybe because there is a spike of network traffic that slows down your retrieval?

When Uploading From MSP To Oracle Projects: An Unexpected Error Has Occurre

When I try to send project data From MSP To Oracle Projects, we are getting following error: 'An Unexpected Error Has Occurred. Please Contact Your System Administrator.'
We are at 11i.PA.L
And BNE level 11i.BNE.C
MSP Projects version: 2003
Desktop PC: Windows XP (SP2)
Browser : IE7
We are getting this error only while sending the data to Oracle Projects. On the other hand, there is no problem while receiving projects from Oracle Projects.

Workflow pauses unexpectedly

Symptom
The workflow executes and appears to reach the End without an error but is Paused and one or more activity/steps are still blinking blue.
Or an activity might blink red and you will see an error in the journal stating 'The computation step must have at least one inbound transition.'
One or more transitions before the error/pause point are blinking orange (a major clue.)
Cause
Not all of your activities are connected.
Fix
For any that are disconnected, drag and drop them onto the incoming transition head.
Preventative
When diagramming the workflow, move activities around. Connected activities should stay connected; the transition arrows follow them.

Solved it. The content was imported from a PowerPoint presentation, and the original slide had on-click animation in it. That's what was causing the premature pausing. Once I removed the animations from the PPT project and re-sync'd with Captivate, everything works as expected.

Windows hangs unexpectedly sometimes when I play streaming media

Sometimes I'll be playing some streaming media - it can be on youtube or on some other streaming media source and the file will "stick" -- that is, I find that I usually can't turn it off or shut down the page. Shortly afterward, the whole thing hangs. The image freezes and the audio turns into a loud wailing sound. Sometimes, if I wait, it may clear, or the system crashes to the blue screen of death. More often, I simply have to do a forced shut down and restart.
HP tech support and Verizon tech support can't figure out what the problem is. I've up-dated drivers, Ditto Firefox, I.E., emptied caches, etc.

While publishing a project in iMovie, iMovie uexpectedly shuts down. Why?

I've been having this problem with iMovie for a few months now, all of a sudden something has happened to my iMovie. It seems to happen only when I insert Picture In Picture option(s) in a slideshow. When exporting the completed Project to Quicktime it crashes. This also happens if I try to Finalize the Project or Share the Project via Vimeo or YouTube. There are a lot of folks out there experiencing this problem, some are finding solutions - I'm not.

Project pause after first click action

I am using Captivate 2 and I am able to create a
demonstration where a user needs to click a highlighted spot to
advance the demo. My click box, captions and highlights are set to
display for the whole slide. It works in preview mode. I click a
designated spot and it advances on click. When published everything
works up until I go to click the first action. It is almost as if
the click box is not there. When I move the playbar it also never
advanced to the next slide. Oddly, when I inset a click box into a
the middle of an older demo with no click boxes, it seems to work
when published. Any ideas??

Check the action assigned to your Click Box. The default may
still be set. The default is "Continue" so if the slide is perhaps
5 seconds long and the user clicks at maybe 3, after 2 more seconds
the slide will pause and require a second click to advance.

IPod Nano pauses unexpectedly

I just bought a new iPod Nano for my wife.
We have an iLive docking station for it as well.
I downloaded music and loaded it in some playlists, and while it is docked and playing it suddenly stops to proudly announce that the iPod is fully charged. Wife has to tell it to play again.
Is this a defect or a setting that can be adjusted so it doesn't stop playing?
We don't want it to pause.

This is a nano problem. My wife and daughter both have new 3rd Gen. nano's. I just bought the new Boston (Accoustics) Horizon Duo-i. I have been befuddled, baffled, bamboozled, and basically p-o’d!
The nano charges and plays music. Once charged it displays a full battery symbol and stops playing music. If you start to play it again, it takes a minute or two before it reaches the full charge again and turns off and tells me the battery is charged. I KNOW IT IS CHAGRED! JUST PLAY THE MUSIC!
I have read in customer support that the large battery icon shows while charging **"while in sleep mode." This is the display that I am getting while it is playing and stops. It appears that even though it is playing music, the nano thinks it is asleep. This fix is how to trick the nano into realizing that it is in fact, not asleep! Does anyone know how to do that?
I am posting this on the apple discussion board hoping someone can find a fix. If not, I am afraid I might have to try a Zune from Satan himself, Bill Gates.

IPad Music/Video Pausing Unexpectedly

Hey, anyone else having an issue wherein, while listening to music or watching video on the iPad it will pause out of nowhere and just sit there, obligating you to hit "play" to restart?

I have had this happen with YouTube videos -- some seem not to have fully loaded when they start playing, they then continue to load and are eventually playable (but it can take a number of minutes for, say, a 6-minute video to load.)
Some users are reporting more serious system lockups when playing videos (thread is on page 1 of this category).
I don't have information on why this is -- I have inquired within that thread if my problem is normal behavior for the system or part of the problems some iPads are having, i.e., is this the best the system can do, which would be disappointing. The system freezes appear to be hardware-based and some owners have done exchanges for "clean" units at stores which do NOT have the problem.)

IDVD quits unexpectedly during menu rendering. I have burned a similar project before and it worked just fine. Suggestions?

I have iDVD for iLife'11. Every time I try to burn my current project, iDVD unexpectedly quits around the same time during the rendering menus process. My macbook pro is practically brand new, and I have succesfully burned a very similar (and larger) project before with no problems. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

My first thoughts
• free space on start-up (Mac OS) hard disk - less than 25Gb (not probably on a new Mac Book Pro)
• corrupted iDVD Pref file - trash it and re-start iDVD. (Or even better - start a new User Account and log into this and re-try - this forces Your Mac to do lot's of new error free pref files.
• corrupted project - Start a brand new one - Don't use old problematic one
• jumping from iDVD back to movie editor - results in iDVD BUG. Start a new iDVD project - or trash movie in iDVD and clean Media Assetts. Then re-try.

Unexpected pausing -- variation on the theme

My 'Touch pauses unexpectedly when hooked up in my car. I have one of those after-market Dice-type devices installed in the trunk where a CD changer would go; the iPod connects to a wire threaded up to the center arm rest area. This did not happen with my old Nano hooked up to it. I've made sure my settings aren't set to automatically lock. Any suggestions?

Is the iPod connected via the Dock or the Headphone port?
If it is the headphone port then you may have a bad connection somewhere, even in the iPod headphone port. Remember that if the headphone is disconnected on an iPod it automatically pauses the music. You may therefore be getting an interruption in the connection that cause the iPod to pause.

Clips Conforming to Project Properties - Sometimes

Having preset custom properties for a new Project, is there a way to have ALL clips added to that Project/Timeline (whether inserted, appended, dragged, whatever) automatically conform to those custom settings, in particular the frame rate?
I've spent the past few hours testing every subtle variation I can think to test, but the result is still that SOME clips get correctly converted and some don't -- but the exact SAME clip will get processed correctly in one Test Project, yet not in another, and I just can't determine a consistent reason why.
(I've added full workflow details below.)
Am I overlooking something obvious, or is this kind of baffling behavior -- wherein clips sometimes conform to specific Project Properties and sometimes don't (and the SAME clip gets processed differently in different Projects, each created with the SAME Property settings) -- just another "feature" of the new Final Cut?
Any suggestions appreciated!

PROJECT SPECIFICS:
- Original media is AVCHD 1920x1080 files acquired on a Canon HF-10 camera at the "24p" setting, which a colleague refers to as "24f", as in "24-fake";
- the files are actually 29.97i with every fourth frame repeated, so after import, viewing them from the Event Browser one frame at a time, the pattern for every five frames is A-B-C-D-D, A-B-C-D-D, etc.
- So if I simply let the new Project's properties be determined by the first clip, it will become a 1920x1080 29.97i project;
- But if I custom set the new Project's frame rate to either 24p or 23.98p, and THEN add Clip1, an orange render bar (are we still supposed to call them that?) appears briefly overtop Clip1, after which -- SOMETIMES -- Clip1 now plays with that pulldown-simulating extra frame removed, in a smooth, true 24fps timeline.
- And that's exactly what I want to have happen, by default, with EVERY clip I add to this particular project; the trouble is: I can't make it happen consistently. Sometimes the render bar appears when I add the new clip; sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes even when it does appear, the end result just for that clip (and only on the timeline) is a horribly stuttery A-A-B-B-C-C-D-D-E-E.... cadence. (And that's after making sure ALL rendering is completely finished.) Other times -- grabbing the EXACT SAME CLIP from the Event Browser, but placing it in a new 24fps timeline -- the "conversion" works perfectly, and the clip on the timeline now plays smoothly at 24fps with no repeating frames anywhere.

24fps does not have pulldown. You're just changing the frame rate and Streamclip is reconforming it as best it can with frame blending. 24fps is not supported in FCE and should not be used.

Can't see FCE projects in full screen..?

Sometimes I can view clips in the timeline in full screen by going to VIEW - VIDEO OUT - Then it says Digital Cinema Desktop Preview (Main). When this is in bold font, I can click it, and view, but when it's not bold - like now, I can't...? Not aware of anything I'm doing differently..? Same project.. Sometimes it lets me, and sometimes it doesn't... Any ideas.?

Have you tried to refresh the video devices ?
Under view, the first drop down item is "Refresh Video Devices".
This should make the Digital Desktop Preview Main active.

Adding a New Folder in Project Manager Crashes RH

For the past few days, I have been having problems creating
new folders in RH 7, Project Manager. Sometimes, it works just
fine, and I can add folders, drag topics into them, import into
them, create new topics, whatever.
But then sometimes, the project manager just goes to white
and flashes at me for a while, then RH crashes. The only things I
can see in the PM pane are the triangular colored icons that
overlay folders / topic icons when they include conditional build
tags. No topic names, no folder names, just a column of these
triangles.
When I come back into RH after the crash, most times there
are topics to reimport and / or relocate. I have rebuilt the cpd
file several times. Each time it seems to resolve the issue, but
eventually another crash comes along as I try to add a folder.
For the record, just updated to the new 7.02.001 a few
minutes ago, but RH just crashed again. 3GB RAM, more than 40GB
space available on hard drive. Nothing new on my PC that I can
think of.
Anyone else seeing this?

I'm just wondering if anyone has found a cause or solution of this issue?
I'm experiencing it too with one of my projects (currently, I'm on RH8.02.202 on Win7/64, but I've also experienced it in RH7 on WinXP/32, FWIW).
Some other details:
My project is on my C:\ drive.
The folder names are all comprised solely of alphanumerics and underscores.
I've deleted both the PSS and CPD files without any noticeable positive effect.
Since I've been on RH8, the project is set to rebuild the .cpd cache upon opening, but I've also tried deleting it (this might be redundant, but I figured the RH "rebuild" might be different from generating a brand new one).
After I force RH to close, the folder is there when I reopen the project, and the folder behaves normally.
The project resides in the standard "My RoboHelp Projects" folder.
The problem seems to be isolated to this project, which is my largest (~2065 topics in ~85 folders)
I'm at the point where I just automatically force RH to close after I create a folder rather than waiting to for the application to become "officially" non-responsive.
Are there any other files I might try deleting or examining? I've poked around in the .xpj, .fpj, and .hhp files, but I don't see anything odd. I compared my old .pss with the new one RH created, and they were identical.
