Project Pro 2013 with Project online

I want to confirm that Project Pro 2013 can connect to Project online in the same way that Project Pro for O365 does. In other words, is it largely a licensing difference in the way the two products are licensed?

Hi,
See my reply about a similar concern:

  • Install Project Pro 2013 and Project Pro for Office 365

Does anyone know if they can be installed side-by-side? From what I can tell it looks like they cannot be installed side-by-side. For example I have a trial version of Project Pro installed, so there's no link in the Start Menu for Project Pro for Office
    365...
    Is there something missing?
    Thanks,
    Roland

    Hi Roland,
I'm not sure I follow your comment "there's no link in the Start Menu for Project Pro for Office 365".  I successfully ran Project 2010 (MSI) alongside a trial of Project Pro for Office 365.
Why do you wish to run both side by side?  Have you considered installing one into a virtual machine?

  • MS Project Pro 2013 - Auto Level (Not responding)

    Hi,
One of our users has an issue in MS Project Pro 2013 with Automatically levelling (See below). Can anyone suggest what the possible cause of this is? The user is running Windows 8.1 Pro and more than enough RAM + Graphics card is fine.
I would start with the both the Resource Pool and Sharer projects open (as I’m supposed to).  When I select ‘Auto Level’, MS Project would then turn the mouse
into a swirl circle and state (Not Responding) at the top of the page.  If I hovered over the MS Project symbol pinned to my task bar, I would notice that it had opened a third window, though I couldn’t see what that project was as it was greyed out.
I tried this a number of times and had the same result.
    Thank you

    Intellitrain --
Given the fact that no one else has replied to your post, let me just take a stab at it.  A couple things come to mind:
Is the project in question a LARGE project with a large number of tasks and resources (maybe numbering in the thousands of tasks and resource assignments)?  If this were the case, leveling all overallocations at once would take a long time, which could
be why the software seems to go into Not Responding mode.  By the way, I have seen Not Responding messages a lot in Project Server 2010 and 2013 when opening a very large enterprise project.  Microsoft Project shows the Not Responding message, even
though it is actually working at opening the project.
If the project is not a large project, but is smallish in size, then the user might try opening both the project and the shared resource pool file in Read/Write mode, disconnecting the project from the shared resource pool file, saving and closing both
files.  Then the user should reopen both the project and the shared resource pool file, reconnect them, and save both of them again.  Then try leveling.  Does the problem still occur.
If this does not help, there is a possibility that the project is corrupted.  If this is the case, the user should disconnect the project from the shared resource pool file and save it.  Then the user should save the file as an XML file and close
the project.  Finally, the user should open the XML file and save it back as an MPP file.  This is how to resolve a corrupted MPP file.
Just a few thoughts.  Hope this helps.

  • Cut and Paste with MS Project Pro 2013

We have and issue where if we try to Copy and Paste a task in MS Project Pro 2013, the PASTE option is not highlighted and we cannot do this. We can copy and paste field in the project but not a task. The task include enterprise fields and I tried to Cut
and Paste even in off-line mode and it does not work.
    Anybody has an idea?
    Thanks

    Hi Johan,
This normally happens when a sort is applied to the view. Sorting by ID then solves the problem.

  • Project Pro for Office 365 vs. Project Pro 2013

    Hello,
As I already have Project Pro 2013 installed on my PC (which is able to connect to Project Online) I'm not sure if the MS Project I'm using is Project Pro for Office 365 vs. Project Pro 2013.
Is there any difference in the interface of the 2 products, as there is a noticeable difference between Word 2013 and Word Web App?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Project Pro 2013 is the same product as Project Pro for Office 365.
Word 2013 and Word Web App are totally different, Word Web App is web based, Word 2013 is the client tool.

  • Project Pro 2013 60 Day Trial....didn't last 60 days

I download and installed the Project Pro 2013 60 day trial and it disabled most of the features after about 7 days. Does anyone know if this can be fixed so that I can use the entire 60 days?
Many thanks in advance if you know the answer.

Soloanom, I anticipate you might be bounced around with a problem like this, but I think that what you're experiencing is due to the design or a problem with the project product itself, and so you'll need to ask the office experts over in the office-related
    forums for assistance.
Unfortunately your post is off topic here, in the TechNet Site Feedback forum, because it is not Feedback about the TechNet Website or Subscription.  This is a standard response I’ve written up in advance to help many people (thousands, really.)
who post their question in this forum in error, but please don’t ignore it.  The links I share below I’ve collected to help you get right where you need to go with your issue.
Soloanom, the two links in this paragraph are your best bet: For technical issues with Microsoft products that you would run into as an
end user of those products, one great source of info and help is

Office, IE, and other products. Office related forums are also here:

For Technical issues with Microsoft products that you might have as an
IT professional (like technical installation issues, or other IT issues), you should head to the TechNet Discussion forums at
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for your product name.
For issues with products you might have as a Developer (like how to talk to APIs, what version of software do what, or other developer issues), you should head to the MSDN discussion forums at
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for your product or issue.
If you’re asking a question particularly about one of the Microsoft Dynamics products, a great place to start is here:
    http://community.dynamics.com/
If you really think your issue is related to the subscription or the TechNet Website, and I screwed up, I apologize!  Please repost your question to the discussion forum and include much more detail about your problem, that could include screenshots
of the issue (do not include subscription information or product keys in your screenshots!), and/or links to the problem you’re seeing.
If you really had no idea where to post this question but you still posted it here, you still shouldn’t have because we have a forum just for you!  It’s called the Where is the forum for…? forum and it’s here:

    Moving to off topic.

  • Project Server 2013 - Graphical Indicators - Not showing until the project is published via Project Pro 2013

    Greetings -
I have a custom field on a PDP that is used to manually flag a project for review.  Once the field is set to "Flag" a red flag should show on the Project Summary page prompting the Portfolio Manager to follow up.  The red flag only appears
after publishing the project via Project Pro 2013 not by just editing the PDP via Explorer (Save and Check in).
This occurs on both projects that were created prior to the graphical indicator being added to the PDP and new projects.
Now if instead of using the red flag graphical indicator I just used the text "FLAGGED" that would work fine.
So is this a bug?  Or is something setup incorrectly?  Or is this how PWA is supposed to handle graphical indicators on the project summary page?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Gunnery,
I made the following test: I create 2 project ECF both inserted in the Project details PDP:
for review: flag type field with graphical indicator in case value = yes
for review_2: text type field (with a yes/no look-up table) with graphical indicator in case value = yes
Whitout going to Project Pro, I'm able to modify the 2 fields for any project (created before or after the ECFs creation) and the graphical indicators are instantaneously shown in the summary project center view (just pressing F5).
Note that the graphical indicator is not shown in the PDP, just the text value. Note also that I've not been to Project Pro neither to PWA/schedule PDP to publish the project plan.
    Then
Does that correspond to your need? Can you reproduce this example and validate wheither or not it works.

  • Saving MPP to SharePoint 2013 site from Project Pro 2013 fails

When syncing from MS Project Pro 2013 to SharePoint 2013 it does not save the MPP file in the Site Assets
Have MS Project Pro 2013, SharePoint 2013, IE 9, Windows 7
    The scenario is as follows.
    1. Have a SharePoint Project site
    2. I open up the task list in the SharePoint site and added tasks just using the available default fields that are provided. NO external links
    are in the task list.
    3. Selected the Open with MS Project option in the task list ribbon. MS Project 2013 launched from my desktop with the task list opened in it.
    4. In Project selected the Sync with SharePoint option and it did sync successfully with task list but it did NOT save the project file in the
SharePoint site.  In addition, No error or warning message appeared.
    5. Selected Save button in MS Project – again it did not save to SharePoint but instead brought up the Save As screen again.

    Karen,
To the best of my knowledge synching a Project file with a SharePoint task list and saving the project file to a library on SharePoint are two separate processes.
You may synch the file to the SP list and then save the Project file to a library.  Are you using Project Server?

  • MS Project Pro 2013 won't activate on Win 8.1 Pro

Hi there. I'm trying to install Project Pro 2013 and Visio Pro 2013 (both MAPS apps) to a Windows 8.1 Pro machine. It has a copy of Office 365 installed just in case that makes a difference. It's also using a domain login.
Anyway, If I try to activate, the key seems to be accepted but it doesn't 'stick' and once the app closes down I need to reactivate again.
Using the product key, I've tried activating at...
The First dialog when opening the app
At the "PRODUCT NOTICE. Project hasn't been activated..." bar
Programs and Features > MS Project Pro 2013 > Change > "Enter a product Key"
    None of which work.
    I've also tried
    Uninstalling and reinstalling
Using our MAPS account login (something I'm trying to avoid)
Attempting the above activation in Administrator mode where possible
Is there anything else I can try?

    Hello Daleos
That is very weird indeed. I don't have a good answer. Make sure that Office and Project are using the same bit version.  Don't mix.  For example if office is running 64-bit then make sure that Project is 64-bit.

  • Date and Time Submitted in Task Notes to show in Project Pro 2013

I wonder if anybody could assist.
I am running PWA 2013 and Project Pro 2013
When a resource updates a task on PWA and creates/updates the notes on the task, it pulls to the notes section for the task in Project Professional.  This is great but…
Is there a way to pull the Date and Time Submitted next to the resources’ name in the note too?
    I would appreciate any assistance.
    Many Thanks :)

    Hi,
I don't think this is feasible out-of-the-box. Note that the information is available in the task details when you click on the task (either in the task update page or in the approval center).
A workaround would be to train the users to start their comments by typing their initials and the date-time.
Another way more complex would be to do some custom code.
    Hope this helps,

  • Allow collaboration on un-published / checked-in project on Project Server 2013 and Project Online

    Hi All,
Before a project is officially published specific resources in the project team need to be able to "collaborate" i.e. create tasks, change dates, etc. before the project is published. The complication is that we need this collaboration to happen
on un-published / checked-in versions of the schedule. For example, the primary Project Manager adds tasks and makes changes to a published version of the schedule, saves and checks-in the project (doesn't publish), tells a secondary PM to go in and review
the changes, the secondary PM should be able to see the changes the primary PM made, even though the schedule changes weren't published, be able to check-out the schedule, review what the primary PM did, make some more changes, save and check-in the schedule
(again, without publishing it), and tell the primary PM to review. Then the primary PM could go, check-out the schedule, review it, save it, publish it, and check it in.
Can Project Server 2013 or Project Online allow to do this? I looked into permissions and Server settings but I couldn't find anything that would indicate it is possible.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    George

    Hi George,
If you perform some tests, you'll see that even from PWA, the schedule can only be edited from the draft table. When you access the schedule in read only (as a team member for example), you see the published version, but as soon as you edit it (after clicking
on the edit button assuming you have the appropriate permission), you'll open and update the draft version of the project.
As far as I can remember (I don't have it in front of me now), you have a "line" in the schedule PDP (don't know how to call it in english) that will tell you if you are accessing either the draft or the publish version.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to make Project Template in MS Project Pro 2013

    Dear All,
is there any method by which Standard Template can be build in MS Project Pro 2013 as Global Calendar etc?
As far as i know, we can do this in PWA once we made EPT but looking something by which if project manager wants to create any project then he can choose such template in MS project Pro 2013 itself?
    Is there any way?

Just to add on to Guillarme's reply, this might help, if you want to create projects and templates directly in Project Pro 2013, this might help:

  • Connecting "ms project pro 2007" to "project server 2013"?

Hello, Is there a way to connect "ms project pro 2007" to "project server 2013"? Do we have a "backward compatibility mode" in this context? Thankx

If I understood correctly, you are asking for whether the MS Project Professional 2007 is supported in Project Server 2013. The answer is
    no.
Project Server 2013 supports only Project Professional 2013 version.

  • Unable to Connect to Project Server 2013 from Project 2013

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect to Project Server 2013 from Project 2013 but it is not working.
I'm able to connect to the PWA from IE 10 on Windows 8 Enterprise
On Project 2013, I configured account to connect to Project Server 2013 and I checked the "Log on to Project Server from Project Professional" global permission and it is on.
Any idea why it is not connecting?

So you are using Project Online and not Project Server 2013? Can other users access Project Online from Project Pro successfully in your organisation? If it was an authentication issue, Project would prompt for credentials.
