Project Server 2010 logs
Hi,
I would like to see the logs(like user addition and deletion) in project server 2010, where can i find this information?
Apart from this what are the logs available in project server 2010?
K.Gokulraj
You can see from Server where you have central admin site .
You have to open the tool then select the File location C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS\
In log folder you will see many files time specific. you have to choose file in which log of specific time registered

Project Server 2010 Web services access with Client Certificate Authentication
We switched our SharePoint/Project Server 2010 farm to use client certificate authentication with Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0, which is working without issue. We have some administrative Project Server Interface (PSI)
web service applications that no longer connect to server with the new authentication configuration. Our custom applications are using the WCF interface to access the public web services.
Please let us know if it is possible to authenticate with AD FS 2.0 and then call
Project Server web services. Any help or coding examples would be greatly appreciated.what is the error occurred when the custom PSI app connects?
can you upload the ULS logs here for research?
What is the user account format you specified in the code for authentication?
For proper authorization, the “user logon account” in PWA for the user needs to be changed from domain\username to the claims token (e.g.
'I:0#.w|mybusinessdomain\ewmccarty').
It requires you to manually call the UpnLogon method of
“Claims to Windows Token Service”. if (Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is ClaimsIdentity)
{ var identity = (ClaimsIdentity)Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity; }
if (Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is ClaimsIdentity)
var identity = (ClaimsIdentity)Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity;
Than you need to extract UPN-Claim from the identity.
Upload the verbose log if possible.
Did you see this?

Hi,
When migrating from a Prod Environment to a Test Environment using the Project Server 2010 5 Database backup and restore process (actually 6 DB's with the Project Sites DB), upon encountering a failure during provisioning the PWA Instance, we get the errors listed
at the base of this posting in our Event Logs.
To clarify what we have done already, we have:
1. Backed up the 6 databases from the Source Environment.
2. Removed the existing PWA_Content and PWS_Content (Project Sites) databases from the Target Environment Farm.
3. Restored the 6 databases in the Target Environment.
4. Given the SP Farm Service Account 'db_owner' rights to each of the 6 restored databases.
5. Added the PWA_Content and PWS_Content databases (exact same names) to the Target Environment.
6. Locked down (offline/stopped), all of the SharePoint Content databases in the Farm except for the PWA_Content database.
7. Run the PWA Provisioning process from the 'Project Server' SharePoint Service in Central Admin.
It is during the PWA provisioning that we encounter these errors.
As the Target Environment is for Test/Dev purposes, the SP Farm Service Account is setup to support all of the SharePoint Farm Services, is in the Local Admin Group of each of the Servers (App, WFE and DB), and is actually in the sysadmin
role on the DB Server.
Any suggestions on what is causing this denied access situation would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
Wayne

Project Server 2010 Jobs All 'Waiting To Be Processed'
Hello,
We have installed Project Server 2010 for evaluation and are running into an issue when creating new projects in the Project Center. The installation included SharePoint 2010 and is a single-machine install (i.e. DB and WFE on same machine).
We can access the site without any problem and when accessing the Project Center and electing to create a new project from Basic Project Plan template, the interface processes the request and then informs us that the request was taking a long time to process
and to check the Manage Queue Jobs interface for status.
Reviewing the queued jobs reveals four queued tasks for Project Create, Project Publish Notifications, Project Publish and Start Workflow, all with a Job State of 'Waiting To Be Processed'. When we originally ran into this issue, we realized that the
User Profile Synchronization Service was configured to run with the Network Service account and that the two relevant ForeFront Identity Manager services were not running. We had read that this may cause the queue to not process requests, so we reconfigured
the system to use a domain account and started the User Profile Synchronization Service Application (which in turn started the ForeFront Identify Manager services).
However, this did not help and the jobs (as well as new jobs) are still waiting to be processed. We don't see any errors listed in the queue and can't really find relevant errors in the SharePoint logs or event viewer.
Has anyone else run into this problem who can provide some insight? Thanks.
JohnAnother thing to check John, and you may well find evidence in the ULS logs, is that the queue service is really running. Just looking in Services isn't enough. When the queue service starts it will check for the presence of PWA sites within
each and every (probably just one) Project Service Application you have running. It will then spawn an extra process for each Service Application it finds that has one or more PWA instances. So you should always see at least two Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Queuing.exe
processes running within Task Manager -and if you just see one the looking in the ULS logs should give an indication why it didn't start up (re-starting will give you a fresh entry in the log - which will be easier than searching through lots of logs.
Best regards,
Brian.

Also I have checked Brian Smith blog to resolve WebHost error with Event ID 3, but that didn't help.
So kindly help me to get this issue resolve and do let me know in case need further details.
ThanksHi,
From error log it seems you have some custom or thrid party web part activated in your application and that web part is not able to load which might causing those pages to get corrupt.
As a fix can suggest you below to two thing to check
1) Remove that "FirePoint.SharePoint.RssViewerWebPart" from your environment and try to access those PWA pages again.
2) Even after removing above web-part solution does not fix this issue, as it is quality env can you try to disconnect and reconnect the share-point farm . Then try to access those pages again.
Share us the latest update and your finding on this issue.

This query creates a tempory table -- when ran seperately = fast
The query does a selection joining the temporary table.
When running the second query without the join on the temp it takes 8 seconds and result in 826 records (all assignements in the db)
After looking at the join and where clauses used in the first and second query i see they are almost identical and with only adding "AND ( (MAS.RES_UID_OWNER = @P0) ) " and not using a temp table, I get the wanted result (122) only taking half
a second.
So
Suggestions how to fix, circumvent the problem?Exact same problem, took me hours to trace it, but i get the exact same behavior, some people can open the tasks view normally, some other people get timeouts.
Tried multiple browsers, logging different users on different machines, different hours in the day with different loads and capacities, verified that SQL Server and SharePoint Servers and Project Servers are not over utilitized.
There just seems to be something wrong with this query, i tried running it in SQL Server Management Studio, and it does indeed take alot of time to generate results, about 5 mins or so for some users.
Please can anyone suggest a solution other than contacting support, this is heavily impacting our business. -
Project Server 2010 (SP1) - Project not loaded in Project Professional
Hi,
We are currently facing an issue with a Project Server 2010 SP1 implementation.
When users are trying to open a plan within Microsoft Project Professional as from the Project Center, the client is loading and is opening only "Project 1". The selected project is not opening.
If Microsoft Project Professional is already opened, the selected project is rightly loaded.
Nothing relevant within the Events Viewer or within the ULS log files.
Thanks for you help.Delete browser history, add PWA site as trusted site.Rename global.mpt file and try again

Hi All,
I have searched inside the forum for similar problems but i didn't find any solution.
We have Project Server 2010 with December CU installed and
we are
experiencing
a serious
problem with two enterprise resources.
They can login to pwa succesfully but when they enter in the Task page the following error is raised:

There are no errors reported in the event viewer while in the ULS Log I found only this entry but i don't know if it's related with this issue:

I have also verified IIS authentication settings as described in this
post but all had been alredy correctly configured.
We have a farm installation with two physical server:
Application Server with Windows 2008 R2, SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Project Server 2010
Database Server with Windows 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 SP2
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
RaffaeleHi,
I faced exactly the same problem: some resources try to connect to My Tasks, and get an Unknown error. No error message in ULS or Eventlog.
I hope I solved the problem, and want to share the experience here.
First, by reading this article,
http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/Unknown%20Error%20My%20Tasks%20Page.aspx: even if the SQL Query returns me no records, it gives me the idea to delete (unpublish) some tasks (i managed to identify some tasks which raised
the problem, by assigning a test account on them, and see that the pb happened).
So I decided to delete my project from the Published Database (and keep it in the Draft of course). Than in Project Pro, I opened and Published: the problem seem to be solved.
I don't know the root cause of the pb: maybe some SQL data were corrupted for an unknown reason.
Hope it could help some one ! Don't hesitate to give feedback if you solved this pb with this solution, or workaround.

Project Server 2010 - Error Adding/Modifying Users
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. We are running Project Server 2010 with SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008. Project Server was installed successfully and a new site was created (server.com/pwa). When I attempt to add a new user (via Server
Settings), or modify the existing account that was added on install, I receive an error on the top of the page. For a new user the following appears:
0de01bb7-786e-4003-8fe8-6790fae42248 -1 2 false true 3 0 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 false false 0de01bb7-786e-4003-8fe8-6790fae42248 true false
Once the new user info is entered, and I click "Save", the progress icon spins and nothing happens. No user is added.
When I go to modify the existing user, I see this on the top of the page:
•An error was encountered in loading the page. Refresh the page, or contact your server administrator if this problem persists.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!
AJMuch appreciated kbwrecker. Moving forward, I am developing a plan to deploy SharePoint/Project Server 2013. So this will hopefully, if done right, alleviate these types of issues.
But, as the 2010 system will be in use for awhile, I am still curious as to what is causing my current PWA issues. I also believe it is a permission issue. The errors I added to my first post on this topic were not from the logs. They only
appear on the user/group webpage in PWA. I don't see them elsewhere.
Here are the complete ULS logs (using ULS Viewer) from my PWA add user attempt. This is very long. I apologize if this is more than is needed:

Project Server 2010 - Assigned tasks not visible in PWA
Hi,
When I enter an issue on a project site, the assigned issue is not visible in the PWA under Issues & Risks.
Based on this link (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f5abd024-3c9a-47f8-a7cb-7743fafebf2b/project-server-2010-cannot-see-assigned-issues-and-risks) I have tried to solve it however without success.
In the queue jobs I have the following error details:

As I understand this error could be due to a mismatch between the fields that are 'standard' in the project server and fields that are op the project site.
If the reporting database could not sync, will consequently also the issues not be visible on the PWA??
Any suggestions how to solve this?
Regards,
DirkHello,
Yes, if the Issues & Risks are not being synchronised to the Reporting database then this will impact the issues & risks appearing on the PWA homepage reminders web part. See this post on how the data gets to the Reminders web part in Project
Server 2010:
http://pwmather.wordpress.com/2012/07/13/projectserver-active-issues-and-risks-on-pwa-reminders-web-part-ps2010-sp2010-sharepoint/
The error you are seeing is probably caused by the default Issue or Risks columns being edited or removed from the Issues or Risks lists. It might be worth taking a look at this post:

Project Server 2010 - Updated User Profile - Display Name is Old Name
Similar to question"It shows the Domain\Logon account instead the User Name (up right corner)" but not quite the same. I also checked on the related topics list and could not find a solution.
We have a Resource in Project Server 2010 whose name changed. This included a change to her loginID as well as her email address. I went in to PWA > Server Settings > Security > Manage Users and changed the
Name, Email Address, and User Login Account fields accordingly. When the user goes into Project Server or any of the Project Sites, her old User Name is reflected. If she accesses any other SharePoint site (not associated with Project Server) her
new name shows up in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
We do not have AD Synchronization turned on.
How can we edit the name that appears in the upper right corner of the screen?Hi,
Use Display name shown on right hand site is not from PWA, its from SharePoint User profile. When we make change to user display name, sometime SharePoint Still retain the old account and also add new account. To fix the issue we have to remove the user
profile from PWA root site.
Open PWA and navigate to following path
Site Actions>>Site Settings>>People and Groups
Click on More from left hand site list of groups
Select appropriate group, belongs to the user
Select the user and from Actions tab remove the user. (you may see two entries old and new), Either you can delete both or click on each account to validate correct user ID.
Once again navigate to PWA>>Server Settings>>Manage User
Edit affected user and click on Save
Have user log on to PWA and validate the result.

Background:
We are gearing up to upgrade our Project Server from 2003 to 2010; as part of this process we have installed MS Project Server 2010 on our dev environment. We created Test Project plans and assigned ourselves (we admins) to these plans and all of us have
admin privileges.Hi, Can you give a bit more detail on how your generating the task approval. Are you going into myTasks and doing self assignment to your test project plans or are you generating these approvals via outlook or are you updating a timesheet and sending status?
If you're using your timesheet have you created all your timesheet periods within server settings, time and task management...Donald R. Landry -
An Unknown Error Has Occurred - Project Server 2010 - Tasks Page
Greetings! Some of my resources are recieving the error "An Unknown Error has occurred" (in red) when trying to access their TASKS Page in Project Server 2010.
I've researched this error quite a bit and am finding suggestions and answers pretty much all over the board. Before I have my server people start installing a slew of hot fixes - I want to know if anyone has an idea of the underlying cause
for this error. Since this issue doesn't affect everyone (i.e. I can access my task page), is it possibly related to the actual schedule in which they have assignments?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
~Randyi have found the solution for this issue, you need to do this:
in the logs you must search the "exception" and the logs give you a ID, this ID is about the task assignment in the specific resource , so this assignment is corrupt.
this ID, you need to merge in the SQL server in the project server database, you need to merge ID task with ID Project with ID Resource, so when you identify the ID project and ID resource you can
DELETE this assignment in the project from project profesional, because this task has a corrupt assignment, you must delete
ONLY FROM project professional.
This solutión solve this specific problem for this assignment that

Odd circumstances regarding an 'unexpected error' in Project Server 2010
A couple of days ago, a client of mine started experiencing an odd error upon trying to save their project files in Project Professional 2010 while connected to Project Server 2010. They'd receive the following error:
An unexpected error occurred during command execution.
Try the following:
Verify that all argument names and values are correct and are of the correct type.
You may have run out of memory. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows that you are not using.
I am familiar with troubleshooting both of the cases as listed above in this error message and quickly determined that the client was not experiencing memory issues. I also could not find any instances where there were incorrect values in any project schedule
fields.
We eventually were able to replicate the issue by following these steps:
A user creates a new project via PWA using an Enterprise Project Type that has been pre-defined to have a specific project template applied to it. Please note that this Enterprise Project Type did not create a workflow... only created a Project Details
page, Project Information page, and Project Schedule based upon this template.
This new project is given some basic Project level custom field information and set to the PM owner and then saved and published without any issues.
Now, when the project schedule is opened immediately afterwards in Project Professional 2010, changes cannot be saved or published. Even the most basic of change at this point such as a new task line or renaming a task name will result in the error message
given at the top of this post. The user is then forced to close the project file and check it back in. Note this applies to anyone performing some or all of these steps.
Note: If a project file was created from this same template through Project Professional instead of through PWA, it was fine and no errors would occur upon further editing.
Because of the above, I decided to try and open the existing project templates used in the Enterprise Project Types that were being affected and simply re-save them with new names. I made no other changes to these templates than just giving them a new name.
I then created new Enterprise Project Types that would then use these new templates. Other than this change, these Enterprise Project Types were exactly the same as the previous ones which caused errors.
Upon trying the new Enterprise Project Types, the project schedules behaved normally and new projects created from them would not cause the error listed.
This is extremely puzzling obviously and now my client is concerned that this is a symptom of a deeper problem in the database that we might not yet know about.
Is this an issue that anyone here has experienced before, and if so, knows how to correct and prevent from occurring again in the future?
Thank you.
Daniel E CrabtreeDaniel,
Issue could be due to corruption ? Please provide us information about current server and client patch level for Project. Also ULS log information would be beneficial to investigate this issue

Project Server 2010 how many CAL licenses do I need?
Hey Guys,
We have Project Server 2010 running for two years now.
We are preparing for the true-up yearly exercise with Microsoft to count the nbr of CAL licenses we need.
As Project Server admin I have been asked to provide an access log of the users accesing Project Server.
Is there a way to know how many users are accessing Project Server so we know how many CAL we need?
I alreayd read the project server 2010 licensing guide (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/8/8/F88B3241-3E27-4BDD-8A01-ABF2422FB31C/Project%202010%20Licensing%20-%20Licensing%20Guide.pdf)
but it does not help me in this case.
Thanks in advanceI found my answer here :

"Well, you could just go to Server Settings >> Manage Users >> Actions and Export to Excel.
From there you can filter out the Active vs. Inactive Resources, and get your counts"
