Project Settings/Exporting Issues overall in Premiere

So, one thing I've never really been very good at is setting up projects in Premiere and Exporting the video itself.
I seem to always end up screwing around with this and barely getting what I'm looking for in the end.
For the particular video I'm currently working on it seems no matter how I compress it, there's either something wrong with the video, the audio is all screwed up or the audio is just really bad quality.
Half the time what I've had to do with these videos is just export the base video and then merge the original audio file with the video and compress it with a different program (I've used TMPGEnc before, but that trial ran out and I'd rather not buy the full version unless this is the ONLY way).
But overall, it seems like with Premiere I should be able to get something good with this software, instead of having to rely on other programs.
What I'm currently working on is a demo reel with material from four different videos:
An .avi @ 29.97 fps (720x480)
An .avi @ 23.99 fps (720x480)
An .mpg @ 23.976 fps (720x480)
And a .wmv @ 30.00 fps (640x480, very small portions in the overall video however)
I do not have access to these original project files, these videos were created over the past 7 years, and they're lost on different computers.
Here is the project settings I have currently:
http://d3xt3rbescrolling.net/images/Project%20Settings.jpg
The export settings I have tried currently include: Uncompressed Microsoft AVI, Microsoft AVI, MPEG, H.264, etc. (various others I can't remember)
Note: This is a video that will either go on youtube or Vimeo
Any help would be appreciated!

Th3On3Fr33man

  • How do you change project settings on Premiere Elements 12?

I have Premiere Elements 12. When I view a DVD I created of wedding photos, the edges of people and objects are jagged and generally the photos appear blurry. On my old Premiere Elements 8, I did not have this problem - the pictures on DVDs were clear and sharp. When checking the project setting on Premiere 8, the project settings for Capture was DV which changed all my settings for General and Rendering project settings. On my new Premiere 12, the Capture setting is HDV and I cannot get the General and Rendering settings to change when I change the Capture setting to DV. The online help from Adobe says to correct this, "In the New Project dialog box, click Change Settings," but when I start a new project in Premiere 12, "Adobe Premiere Element Editor" is the only dialogue box that shows and I cannot see a change setting button. Does anyone know how I can change my project settings so that when I select DV it will change all the presets for the General and Video Rendering settings?

    jacquelinebaker
The party line is that you cannot change project settings once the project settings have been set. You need to start a new project.
Edit Menu/Project Settings/General does not offer the opportunity for any significant project settings change in this type of situation.
I have discovered that, under certain circumstances, that the user can change the established project preset without starting a new project.
The approach to doing this involves editing the Notepad document of the saved closed project file (project.prel file). I have written about this in the following blog post.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-changing-project-settings-without.html
You need to weigh the pros and cons of going through the procedure or just starting a new project and start the project again.
All of the above being said, on to setting to the correct project preset to match the properties of your source media. Please refer to the issues involved and how to set manually the project preset when the program is not doing the job correctly or best automatically.

To the specifics...if you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window, the scenario would be...
    a. Open Premiere Elements 12 to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings. In Change Settings,
change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard or NTSC DV Widescreen depending on NTSC or PAL set up and 4:3 or 16:9 DV data source. Then before you exit that area, make sure to place a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in
the new project dialog. Exit that area and return to the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace for your Add Media/DV Capture selection.
If you are doing HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window, then same scenario except the project preset change involves NTSC HDV HDV 1080i30 (if NTSC). In this instance, the Edit Menu/Project Settings/General should look like

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 - Export issue.

    Hello to the Adobe Community!
Maybe someone here can help me out with some Premiere issues.
    I am using Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1.
    I'm on Windows 7 64 (Ultimate N).
    My system is:
    Intel Core i5CPU [email protected]
    3GB RAM
I have updated all Adobe software, and my drivers.
I've had a good look over the forums and I found this article. It's very useful, and hoping it would be my saviour, I went through all the advice given.
    Still no luck!
I'm trying to export the media from Premiere to Media Encoder.
    My sequence settings are:
    1280 x 720
    Square pixel aspect ratio
    25fps
    48000HZ - Stereo
    My render settings are:
    MPEG2 - DVD
    PAL HIGH QUALITY
Everything else is left to the default setting.
When I try to encode via the Media Encoder, it gets to about 1/3rd of the way through and I get a message:
    'Encoding Failed
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
I have also tried, as per previous posts, to use the Adobe Dynamic Link, both from Premiere out to Encore, and importing in from Premiere when I'm in Encore.
Still no luck! I get an 'encode failed' message when I try to transcode it. I'm pulling out my hair with this one.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
NB: This is my first post on this forum, so apologies if I have missed anything out.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Em.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions - Evan I think you might be right on the memory issue.
I tried one last thing - running Premiere in compatibility mode as an administrator.
Again, it failed after about 7 minutes. It's quite a complicated project, but it's only 14 minutes long.
The strange thing is that although it doesn't seem to render on my work pc, it renders on my home pc, which has similar specs:
    CPU: Intel Core i5 760 2.8GHZ 8MB
    MEMORY: 4GB (2x2GB) PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz Dual Channel Memory
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P7P55-M Intel P55 Chipset
    NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1GB
I forgot to say that my work pc, listed above uses an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card.
Do you think that 1GB can really make all the difference?
Sorry if that's a stupid question, I don't have a massive amount of technical knowledge.
    Cheers!
    Em.

  • Premiere Elements 7 missing project settings...

    Hi all,
I am using Premiere Elements v7.0 with a Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder attached. I am having some issues getting my project settings to match my HDV camcorder and the HD video i want to import. When I launch Elements and the welcome screen is open, i click "new project" followed by "change settings" under project settings. From here my understanding is that I should be able to choose from multiple presets that correspond to the quality of the video i am inputing. However, when i open "change settings" it is completely blank. The settings are defaulted to NTSC-DV Standard 48khz and I can't change them. I have tried having my camcorder plugged in and turned on thinking maybe Elements needed to see my camcorder, but the list is still blank.
If i try to get media from my HDV camcorder, i get the message "your current camera setting is different from your project settings. Results may not be optimized." After i close that error message, i am able to playback video and capture, but I am unsure if it is in high-def or not. I would think the project settings need to match the HD quality that i am importing.
Can anyone help me with this issue? Has anyone seen or heard of this before? Thanks for your time.

Hoorah, I have solved this problem on my machine (Intel Quad core with Vista x64 and 8GB RAM).
I sent a support email to Adobe over a week ago but they have not even had the grace to acknowledge receipt. What an amazing way to treat customers that have paid for your product! And that's after providing screen grabs and detailed descriptions of the symptoms.
    Anyway, to the solution.
After many attempts to install, uninstall, repair install etc with UAC turned off, Virus protection turned off and Running everything as Administrator, nothing would yield any Preset choices for new projects.
    So I did the following:
    - uninstalled my paid for version
    - downloaded and installed the Trial version from Adobe.com (670MB download) (I ran the exe to extract the files, stopped it automatically rolling into the Setup routine, right clicked on the msi file in the extracted folder and chose "Install")
    - Ran the Trial version once - all the presets were available. But I could not activate the Trial with my genuine serial number (?!)
    - uninstalled the trial version by right clicking on the msi in the extracted folder and choosing "Uninstall" - this removed most of the program but interestingly left behind a few folders in the Program Files (x86)\Adobe Premiere Elements 7 folder, in particular the "Settings" folder and all its sub-folders which is where the Project presets are stored
    - installed my paid for version by right clicking on the msi file on the DVD and choosing "Install", and entering the serial number at the start of the install routine)
Hey presto, I have a fully functioning install with a full choice of presets.
I have been careful to describe the exact steps I followed. I suspect that "Installing" the "msi" file has exactly the same effect as running the Setup.exe but I have no interest in going through any more installs/uninstalls to prove it! Interestingly, the "uninstall" right click against the msi to remove the trial version does not throw up any Adobe dialogue boxes - it seems to be a Windows level removal, but it leaves the vital folders behind.
I have no idea why the trial version will not let you install the legitimate serial number - the purchased version accepts it but the Trial puts up a red cross when you enter it.
I hope this works for others. If someone is willing to try it, it may be as simple as having a fully populated "Settings" folder present. Extracting the contents of "settings.zip" from the Trial download (it's in the CoreTemplates folder) into the following folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\settings) may be sufficient.

  • Exporting from PP CS3 to Encore CS3 defaults to PAL project settings!

I am trying to export about an hour of edited HDV video to Encore, and no matter what I try, the project settings after exporting into Encore is set to PAL and not NTSC. Encore does not allow me to change the settings back to NTSC. I have set all the export settings in Premiere to confirm NTSC is set in the encoding settings. I have tried to change all the default preferences in Encore to NTSC, but still when I export from Premiere, the project settings turns up as PAL. The work around is to export the movie seperately, then import it in Encore with new project settings set to NTSC, but I lose all my chapter information. Anybody else run into this?

Authoring Mode really only governs the size of the Preview window. When you export to BD, DVD, or Flash, Encore will transcode any media that is not legal for the export format.
So in your case, if you burn to Blu-ray, Encore will not transcode your video (if it is an elementary stream); if you burned to DVD, Encore would transcode your video to SD widescreen (720x480/576 NTSC/PAL).

  • Exporting Issues in Premiere Elements 11

In the program Premiere Elements 11 my video looks perfect, all my images are aligned and put in the exact way I want them to be but when I go to export it it moves the images and messes up the end result. I don't know what to do to make it export correctly, I've tried it multiple times in multiple different option it give me but it just won't export it right. What I've done is edited a person so they're pure black (shadow like) and put a white border around them (altering them with Eight Point Garbage Matte) but it gives me this.
    In the Program
    When Exported
Please if I can get help soon that'd be most appreciated because this video is need for the play we are going to put on at school next week. In fact we first big practice is tomorrow and we really need to to practice with the video.

    Please give the following information....
What is the project preset that you (manually) or the project (automatically) sets as the project preset.
If you do not know, please tell us what you see for Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for
Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.
What are the exact export choices and settings for your Timeline content....Publish+Share/ then what?
If Publish+Share/Computer, then what? And when you make the choice, do you use the default settings
or customize the preset under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Export Settings to use on Adobe Premiere

I need to give some footage to a client using Adobe Premiere. I know I tried giving him an HDV file before and it wouldn't open in Premiere, I was wondering what the best settings would be compatible with Premiere? I need it to be high quality but not too huge. Thanks

I thought you had a FCP project being edited or set up.
If you don't, just give them the footage you have as it is, no need to do anything or export anything. AppleQT/FCP exports may be unreadable by PC based editing systems.
Exporting an EDL has nothing to do with video quality, you need to read/learn more about editing and the various terminologies used in the industry. To answer your emotional concern, NO an EDL export
does not involve quality loss, it is just a way to export information about your project, timeline, cuts etc.

  • What project settings and export settings to use ?

So, after some trial and error i give up and need some huge help. (7.0 Pro)
I have recorded some footage through a game running at 1920:1200 resolution. So the question is what project settings should i choose under project, look at the picture below for example. Some times i get a large black area around the finished video, while one time it came out as a 4:3 vid....
    http://bildr.no/view/468733
Further more, when i am done editing i want to export it uncompressed to the disk in the same format 1920:1200 (which is 16:10). Which settings should i then choose?
    http://bildr.no/view/468734
Thx for any help you might be able to provide. Btw! Basically, what i want is just plain editing, no cropping of edges, resizing etc, i just want to take the raw video, edit it, and make a new file out of it with the same properties as the raw vid (source).

Your pixel aspect ratio and field order are wrong. You want PAR set to "square pixels" and field order set to "Progressive (None)". Do the same for your export settings.

  • Premiere Elements 12, Project settings to burn a DVD

    Hi,
I'm a little confused about the project settings. I try to burn a DVD of 3 mpg-files. Here is a screenshot of the file info's, also one of the project settings:
According to the file information, I think the settings are correct, though the timeline shows an orange bar.
All files have the same informations.
When I go to finish the project to burn it on a DVD (output setting is PAL_Dolby DVD) it takes at least 14 hours, I don't think this is normal.
My system is a Macbook Pro, OS 10.9.1, 2.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM.
Any ideas what is wrong here?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jessie

    Jessie
Great news with your troubleshooting. Great job.
Let us now look at what you wrote
The only thing that's left now is why I'm not able to save a project when I added one of my self created menue template
from the point of view of
    a. how you created the menu template
    and
    b. where you placed it
    Creation of the menus...
    a. What did you put in the theme folder...just the main menu .psd file and scene menu.psd file or more? What were the exact names that you gave the main menu .psd file and scene menu .psd file? What program did you use to create your menus? We will get to the Layer Set structure in the Layers Palette of the .psd file(s) next if necessary.
    b. I do not have a Mac computer so I cannot talk in terms of .psd file location in Mac. I will now talk in terms of Windows and hope that you can translate the following into the right Mac location for the theme files (assumed also .psd type).
    Local Disk C
    Program Files
    Adobe
    Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    DVD Templates
    Common
and, in the Common Folder, create a new folder named My Specials. In the My Specials Folder create a new folder named My XXX Theme. Inside the XXX Theme Folder goes the XXX .psd files and other theme assets.
In Windows, the menu theme (Slideshow/Pan and Zoom) that comes with the program is found in the above location. The menus that require Content download are in the Windows Program Data path that leads to the Online Folder. I do not want you to use that latter path counterpart in your Mac.
But let me ask this basic questions...
    a. After you have placed the menu that you created in the computer, when you open Premiere Elements 12, do you see that menu in Movie Menu Display of menu choices
    b. If so, can you click on its choice, hit Continue, and have the theme appear in the Movie Menu customization area of the opened project
    c. If so, can you Preview the customized or uncustomized menu there and does it look good.
    d. When all is done, how many main menu pages and how many scene selection pages do you have?
Let us start here, review the above, and then decide what next.
    Thank you.
    ATR
Add On...Additional focus may be computer resources, placement of Timeline markers, and spacing between Timeline markers, as well as fine details of Layer Sets in the Layers Palette of the .psd file, whatever else you may be placing in the Theme Folder of the menu that you made yourself.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Project settings

Does Premiere Elements 12 support 1080p video and 5.1 sound in the same project? From what I can see in the project settings I can have 1080p with stereo or 1080i with 5.1.

    VRB817964
Unfortunately I have no access to a Mac computer and have never worked with one.
But, there are several basic ingredients to this
    a. Premiere Elements' New Project Dialog's List of Available Project Presets
    and
    b. The .sqpreset file of an existing project preset
If the Adobe .sqpreset files are the same independent of computer operating systems Windows vs Mac and their location is the only difference, this approach should be applicable for the Mac user.
To put this thought to the test, can you find the following files on your Mac computer, named as
    PAL AVCHD 1080p50.sqpreset file
    or
    NTSC AVCHD 1080p60.sqpreset file
Can you find the lines in each's Notepad document that needs to be edited according to the blog post with its Premiere Elements Windows base?
If so, then the hoped for outcome would be to edit them as per the blog post instructions and then put the edited ones into the location where the unedited ones are found.
To much to hope for, but worth a try. One of my goals for 2014 is to get a Mac computer.
We will be watching for further developments.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Element 9 Project-settings...

    Hello everyone,
I have some trouble with the project settings ( I hope its the right term, because my programm is in German).
I don't know which setting to use with my video files captured with fraps.
    Video clip details:
    1600*838
    29 fps
    .avi
    bit rate: 480794 kBit/s
    Audio: sample rate: 44Khz
              Channels: 2 (stereo)
I didn't find any setting fitting to my video file, and when I choose one which fits partly I can't change the settings (for instance the frame size).
In addtion to that, my video files are blurred in the prewiew and also when the file is exported....
Thank you very much for your help

Well, with that odd Frame Size, about the best that you can do is to choose 1920 x 1080, Import your FRAPS footage into that Project, and then, either leave the black bars, or Scale up your Footage (Default Scale to Frame Size will do that, or you can use the Fixed Effect>Motion>Scale and possibly Motion>Position, if necessary). Scaling WILL reduce the quality, but you might be able to live with that. Only you can know.
Now, in PrPro, one CAN Customize the Frame Size to match odd footage, but that is an entirely different program, and not inexpensive.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Projects settings for AVCHD MTS files in Adobe Premiere Elements 8

    Hello,
I have read several discussions already, about importing AVCHD MTS file in Adobe Elements (version 8), but I'm also confused a littlebit, so I would like to confirm if I'm correct.
FYI, I have a Canon Legria HFR26 camera and am using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 (with the latest updates installed).
According to the specs in the Canon instruction manual:
Videos are recorded in high definition using AVCHD specifications
    (MPEG-4/H.264 compression).
    Audio compression: Dolby Digital 2ch
The camera supports making video's in different format, but I have done it in the default SP format, which results in a resolution of 1440x1080 (50 fields per second, interlaced).
I have copied the video from the camera to my harddisk, and Windows also mentions the video's as AVCHD of 1440x1080 (Bitrate 7672kbps).
The frame rate is 25 frames/second. I assume this is correct for 50i?
So, when I import my video's into Adobe Elements 8, I select the following projects settings:
    PAL, AVCHD, HD 1080i 25
Because the description matches my video files:
    - For editing with 1440x1080i AVCHD camcorders.
    - 16:9 interlaced HD video at 25 frames per second.
    - 48kHz audio.
The video's are imported correctly and I can play them. However, as soon as I drop a video on the timeline, Adobe immediately starts background rendering the video (a red line appears on the timeline).
What I understand from some discussions, is that this shouldn't happen, because the video format doesn't match the project settings. On the other hand, I have also read that for Adobe Elements 8 this is normal behaviour and it always start background rendering AVCHD video's.
Is this expected behaviour or should I chance my projects settings or maybe even convert my video files to a different format?
    Thanks,
    Michiel

The ability to work natively with AVCHD files was not added until version 10, Michiel. So you'll still have to render while you work in version 8.

  • Premiere Elements 8 Project Settings

Using Premiere Elements 8 (trial edition), what are the correct project settings to work on mp4 files?
My clips won't preview (appear black with audio) and in the monitor panel the clips are washed out with color.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Howard
    Please refer to attached screenshot.

From your details, you have a Flip Ultra HD camera.....
It would appear that your video is 1280 x 720 (16:9) with H.264 compression and (from your screenshot) a file extension of .MPEG4.
From the history on these flip cameras and editing of their videos in Premiere Elements (even versions earlier than 8), file conversion is probably going to be your answer.
Prism will do the job to convert your video (1280 x 720 16:9) to DV AVI, but the DV AVI will be 720 x 480 (4:3) since Prism does not do DV AVI 720 x 480 with the 16:9 flag for widescreen. But, try it anyway to see if it makes your video quality acceptable. You would save the DV AVI from Prism and bring it into Premiere Elements 8 Get Media/Files & Folders, using the Premiere Elements project preset (new project dialog) = NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen or the PAL counterpart, depending on your location. For Prism settings, see the Steve Grisetti FAQ.
The reason that conversion to DV AVI is promoted is because DV AVI is the native format of the Premiere Elements Timeline. But....
You could also try what I described to Corey in his thread (response #24)...this should convert your original into a .wmv instead of DV AVI. This .wmv would be 1280 x 720 16:9. You would bring the .wmv into Premiere Elements 8 Get Media/Files & Folders, using the Premiere Elements project preset (new project dialog) = NTSC HDV HDV 720p30 or its PAL counterpart, depending on your location. See Corey's thread, post #24, for all the details.
See how you do. We can fine tune any glitches along the way if necessary.
    Any questions, just ask.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashes whenever I go near Project Settings

    Hi all
I am using an official trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 as part of Creative Cloud. I am editing on my MacBook Pro 17" (newest model) with h.264 footage recorded on my Canon 550D.
Everything works fine, imports and edits like a dream. However, during editing, if I simply go to Project -> Project Settings -> General - then don't even change anything, just ok out of the dialog box then it crashes.
When I say crashes, the video disappears and I cannot do anything at all until I exit out and reboot. No messages appear until I do a 'force quit' and then I get the standard "A serious error has occurred" etc.
Of course the obvious solution is to not select Project Settings when editing! Which I will do for now, but I would like to think that I can change any settings I like without it crashing every time!
    Any thoughts?
    Regards
    Jason

On reading the advice on a separate thread I updated OSX from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 which seems to have fixed the problem. Probably should have checked that first!
