Project System Understanding

Hello experts,
I am new in SAP. I have read a lot of documents related to project system.
Still I am having a problem. Now i have to handle a client but i don't know what they want form my side.
I came to that new project is a capital investment project.
Can you please tell me what i have to do over there ?

Kushal, If you have been given opportunity to maintain particular customers landscape.
You can have a discussion with your customer as to what level of support htey are looking from you as Basis standpoint.
Based on that you can define your Service Level Agreement.
I would advice to proceed with :
1. Login to SAP system goto stms and have an idea of system landscape and change flow.
2. Have a look where is your database installed and SAP is installed.
3. To perform maintenance you would need to have SAP , DB and Operating system access.(you may request this to your customer)
4. Once you have undersatanding of SAP system you can look for Kernel and Support Pack upgrades.

this walk through is targeting Visual C# project system. I need to create the Custom project system as Web project and set the start up page as index.html file. How can I achieve this?
Note:
I have got the Custom project system sample from VS2013 SDK samples(https://mpfproj12.codeplex.com/).
But it demonstrate the Custom console applications only.

So you didn't even follow this walkthrough yet? If you did, how did you do it?
I failed to create such a web project system because I finally messed up my VS experimental instance. But it's possible to create a custom web project system, by following this walkthrough. Someone else has successfully made it, check this
link.
The difference is that you have to use web project type instead of the console application project type. You could copy a web project's .csproj file into the VSPackage project and rename it to xxx.myproj. There's an error in the walkthrough that the AssemblyInfo.cs
file should be put into Properties folder and set the "Build Action" property to Content, "Include in VSIX" to true.

Sub-contracting through Project system.

Hi
Can some one please help me in understanding how Project system (PS) is supporting sub-contracting scenarios.
I am looking for activity sub-contracting and also sub-contracting with Project stock materials.
I am aware of normal sub-contracting through production order and also sub-contracting through MM. I am specifically looking for sub-contracting in PS.

Hi,
If requirements for subcontract items (or services) are generated automatically from PS just make sure that the right document category is used (subcontract) then any requisitions or planned orders etc. will have the right category.
There is no difference between PP, PS and PM effectively, they all use subcontracting in the same way it is just how the requirement is triggered that is slightly different.
If you need details on how to trigger the right type of requirement through PS then you may need to use one of teh financial forums that cover PS? (is there one?)

Report-Report Interface from BW to Project Systems

I'd like to jump from BW reports based on 0PS_C04 into the corresponding R/3 line items. If I specify CJ74 as the transaction target then run the BW report and choose the corresponding option from the 'GoTo' menu the following message is displayed. I find this very confusing -- it seems to be saying that the report behind the transaction cannot be used in the report-report interface, but in the procedure says always use the program in the report-report interface.
Can anybody understand what the message is telling us? Can anyone tell me how to jump to an R/3 line item report from BW Project System cube?

Diagnosis
Line item report RKPEP000 is not suitable for the report/report
      interface.
Procedure
Always enter RKPEP000 as the receiver report for project line items in
      the report/report interface. This program uses the transfer parameters
      to determine which line item reports can be accessed.

Use interface program RKPBW000 instead of RKPEP000 in the RRI settings.

Revenue Recognition in Project System

Hello All,
At my current client, they are using the Project System (i.e. WBS) only for Cost and Revenue collection. POC,RA,Milestone billing,Network, Activities are out of scope. Keeping the above thing in mind, I need to know how I do the Revenue recognition thru WBS.
Mu understanding is that If I assign a WBS element on a Sales Order line item, as an account assignment it should collect the Revenue. The only requiremnt should be that WBS should be a billing element and Cost/Revenue profile should carry SD relevant settings. Once the billing is done and invoicing is done, the Revenue should appear against the WBS on running the report S_ALR_87013563/64/65/66.
Please let me know if this will work or do I need to do some more configuration from PS perspective.

Hi Sarang,
1. Mark WBS as billing element.
2. Assign the sales order line item to the WBS in point 1 or any WBS below that in the hierarchy.
3. Create a billing plan for the sales order line item.
4. The billing plan amount would appear as planned revenue against the WBS element (provided no credit hold useVKM3 to release).
5. Once the line item has been billed ie. Billing document has been created using VF01 or VF04, the Actual revenue would appear against the WBS element.
In terms of Config:
Creat a planning profile that allows Automatic Revenue planning form Sales Order (tcode: OPSB)
Ensure that the planning profile is attached to your project profile (Controlling tab) (tcode:OPSA).

Project Systems Business Content - Residual Order Plan

Hi all,
I a issue which I hope someone can help me with:
I am lodading data into cube 0PS_C08 and then into 0PS_C04 as per the BC. When I view the BC restricted key figure "residual order plan" i get nothing (blank).
I look in R/3 I have values for residual order plan. I have looked at the Help on SAP and they say there is some config that needs to be done in SPRO. I dont really understand what config needs to be done can someone help?

Trabsfer Pricing Treatment in Project System

Hi,
Can someone provide me with a brief overview of how transfer pricing work in Project System?
Do we need to have profit center activated for this?
In my business scenario, I will have projects which perform work to support other project.
Under this circumstance, the service provider project would like to charge the service receiver project with certain profit margin.
I would like to understand how this will work in project system environment and will the margin be charged from one project to the other project as and when the transfer of service happen or this will be charged only periodically?
If then what will be the basic the calculate the transfer price and margin?

I have to report on Project Systems (0PS), i saw it under 0PLM, can any one give any suggestions as how to proceed on this ? I want to show some demo reports on this module, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Heera,
PS is a complicated module. It has several datasources, each one based on the PS elements of the projects. You will find information posted in each level (PEP, Project, Orders, etc), and for each, you'll have the information in a different datasource. I suggest you to read the help documentation (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/b9/60073c0057f057e10000000a114084/frameset.htm) and best practices (http://help.sap.com/bp_biv170/html/BW/D25_EN_DE.htm).
Also get in touch with a PS functional analyst to help you understand a bit more how the module it works and what you can find in the R/3 system you will be working with (depends on the implementation of your company what you'll be able to use in BW).

Upto my knowledge, cProjects is a webdynpro application which can be installed without ERP as a stand alone. You can use cProject where you need only PS without any other ERP modules. Hence, says that cPojects is adequate for small services project which has simple planning and budjecting like for service industries. cProjects is easy to use compared with SAP PS.
When we come to PS, it is tightly integrated with all other components like SD, MM, FIN, PM, PP etc. Where there exists lot of coustomizing supporting various Industries. Hence says that PS is helps for large projects where document flows across various modules.

Interest Posting Periodic Allocation from Project System

Guys,
I am creating an automatic interest posting as part of the periodic allocations from the project system. We have new GL active and run parallel ledgers. The FI posting is into all ledgers, any idea how I can control posting to one ledger only?

I tried defining an extract layout which assigned to the project type I am using and then creating an evaluation layout using the extract layout.
However, it didn't really work as expected. In my scenario actual costs originate in cProjects (when the task is completed and the actual number of hours are entered in the confirmation field). Actual costs are not captured in the internal order. In this case if I define an evaluation will it update the actual cost if I define threshold value formula as follows (for testing I made it actual = planned just to see if I get a value).
actual cost = confirmation * unit cost for task/role
If the above is possible;
1. How do I define the attribute and object types for unit cost for task/role which is based on the cost/revenue rates setup for the role? For example how do I find out the values for attribute and type name fields?
2. I was under the impression that evaluations can only generate a report based on the existing values and update the criticality level field a threshold condition is defined. Is my understanding of this function incorrect?
Apologies for all the questions, but I am still unclear how to update the actual cost which originates as result of cProject task confirmation to the internal order.

Difference between SAP cProjects and SAP Project System

Hi,
SAP already has a solution PS ( Project System ) for managing the projects in an Organization.
When there is a solution already existing then why did SAP come up with a new solution cProjects ?
Can any help me in understanding the main differences and advantages between cProjects and PS ?

Hi.
I have copied an SAP text below which sets PS, cProjects, (x)RPM and PPM into context.
In the ninties, the Project System was developed within SAP R/3 to provide a powerful application with full integration into logistics and financials.
Target groups were industries such as engineering and construction, automotive, high tech or utilities with focus on project manufacturing or large maintenance projects.
Later on, the need for more flexible and easy-to-use tools supporting the new process methodologies, phased-based approaches, quality gates, and so on, emerged. SAP developed Collaboration Projects and Collaboration Folders (cProjects Suite), which takes these new requirements into account and provides extensive features to collaborate with internal and external partners using a HTML-like interface and Web Application Server technology.
Thus, cProjects was able to address to a broader range of industries, such as service providers, offering a high degree of visibility and flexibility to support various scenarios from product development to consulting projects. Nevertheless, cProjects is seen as a complementary product to Project System, not as ist successor!
It always depends on the scenario that a customer wants to cover, which application is the best choice.
As another matter of fact, combinations of both are also possible.
In addition to this, the new generation of composite applications was born and SAP xApp for Resource and Portfolio Management provides excellent capabilities to align operational project management with strategic portfolio management.
The latest developments bring all these three applications tighter together and offers a comprehensive solution for project and portfolio management by covering logistical, financial and human resource aspects and addressing the needs of all stakeholders throughout the entire organisation.
However, xRPM capabilities are not only restricted to project portfolios but can be leveraged to control all kind of portfolio items.

I have already looked at help.sap.com PS Best Practices Config guide.
I wanted some custom Config document which has the set of sequence of detailed configuration to be done for Project Systems.
I would really appreciate that and I will assign full points.
