Project To Date Balances

I understand that we can create project segments (even more than one) in a chart of account structures and add values to these segments (via value set). Oracle will automatically maintain project to date balances for each value based on the start date we have specified for the value.
My question is how does Oracle know that this particular segment is a project segment. In order to maintain project-to-date balances for the projects (values in the segment) Oracle needs to know that which segments are project segments. Thanks.

Uhh, technically Oracle does not know that a segment of your general ledger key flexfield is a project segment. There is no identifier that you can assign to a segment that says this is a project segment.
For example, you could call segment 1 Company. Segment 2 could be Region. Segment 3 could be called Project Segment. You would assign a value set to Segment 3 that would contain your project numbers. Each value (project number) would have a start date and an end date on that value.
So when picking account numbers, the user would have to find the account number that contains the project number, in segment 3, that they want to use.
So you and your users would have to know what segment(s) are considered the project segments when want to do inquiries and reporting.
Does that make sense?
We at McCarthy are a construction company and heavily into project reporting. But we use Oracle Projects to handle this. We don't use the general ledger to do project tracking. General ledger might be okay, in my opinion, if you only have a small volume of projects to track, but if your company is heavily project based, then I don't think the general ledger is the way to go.
Hope this makes some sense. Try not to take the Oracle documentation too literally. I think Oracle just stuck that in there because of Oracle customers not using Oracle Projects who still wanted a way, in the general ledger, to track project information, and Oracle telling them this is how they can do it. They are saying just make sure you build your account structure so that you can meet this kind of requirement.

Hi all,
I try to analys gl balances and I found that column project_to_date shows balances from the first balance on the code combination till now. It is cumulatively? Am I right? This balance will increased till code combination is in use?

Project & WBS data

Hi All,
I have project & WBS data in my Datasource. I have checked using RSA3 for a Datasource, and i c that the Project and Wbs data appear exactly as the Table Data like
For Ex: Refer this Record values for WBS and Project respectuvely.
(WBS)P000254A1 and P000254(Project).
But when i replicate this Datasource in BW,,these above said values change to (WBS)1463 and 316(Project)
Y is this change involved when the Datasource in R.3 shows correct Data but while In BW it shows Something Else,,
Please Help on this Issue.

Im Checking the data in BI at PSA level.I just replicated the datasource then scheduled the infopak to DS to see it.
The DS is a Zdatasource which is made thru a Ztable. The table & ZDS in R//3 contains correct P******(WBS) and P****(project) data's,,but y is it wrong in BI??
Is there any conversion exits!!,,,Bcoz,project number starts vth P****** but earlier in my Ztable it was showing the same numerics which is as of now in BI,,So i checked on the SEttingsUserparameterthen Check on conversion exit Box,Then finally the Data gt changed to P********.So is there any technique like this in BI??

Error in Loading Project master Data into BW from R3

Actually I am trying to load Project Master Data from R3 to BW through a BW Process chain, Its a daily activity which we are performing since long time.
But since last 2 days loading is getting failed with an error in ST22 in source system (R3):

     Error in the ABAP Application Program
     The current ABAP program "CL_CGPL_TASK==================CP" had to be
      terminated because it has
     come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.

    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL', was not
     caught in
    procedure "PREPARE_FOR_RELOAD" "(METHOD)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING
     clause.
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
    exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    You attempted to use a 'NULL' object reference (points to 'nothing')
    access a component (variable: "ME->OUTLINE_PARENT").
    An object reference must point to an object (an instance of a class)
    before it can be used to access components.
    Either the reference was never set or it was set to 'NULL' using the
    CLEAR statement.
I tried to reload the data but no help, I am not sure how to reolve this issue, I also contacted to BASIS even they are not aware of this error.
I am seeking help from you guys.

T-code to pull the year to date balance in SAP

How does the project expiry date work?

I am looking to buy Captivate. But I first need to know how the project expiry date works.
I am currently producing a short course for a company in my area, but our agreement is that they get to use the short course for a period of 3 months. If I create the short course in Captivate, will I be able to set an expiry date on the project? For example, person A buys my short course. After 3 months (or however long) the course expires and he will no longer be able to open the short course. Is this what the expiry function does?
Also, does the expiry function work even if the project is copied from one hard drive to another? For example, if someone makes a duplicate of the project onto a friend's hdd, will both projects still expire after 3 months?

I have been a Articulate Storyline users for several years now and am new on the Captivate forum. Someone told me that Captivate can set an expiry date on the course content after being downloaded on an iPad for offline viewing (so without an LMS). In Articulate SL this is not possible unfortunately although a feature request has been made by quit a few. Situation is that I deliver course content to clients operating in remote areas (shipping). It is essential for me to have this feature and will seriously consider changing over to Captivate if this is true.
Could anyone help me out on this one?

FCP project creation date

Hi all,
1 have an installation with three MDC Xserves (10.6.2) ,8 Mac Pro clients ( 10.5.8 ) with XSAN 2.2.1 and Open Directory .
The MAC pro clients have Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 installed.
When we modify a project in FCP and save it then the creation date of the file changes to the modification date. This behavior happens only in the XSAN volumes and only for the FCP projects, if we create a text file , edit it and then save it the modification date changes but the creation date is not affected .

It seems the created date not stored in Project object in TFS API. To get team project created date automatically, you can query the date from
[Tfs_DefaultCollection].[dbo].[tbl_projects]
table>> [last_update]field use coding.

Hi,
Goto the Financials Module > Financial Reports > Financial > Trial Balance - Selection Creteria.
You will see a button Expanded. Click on it and in the window opened, enter the project code in the Project field appearing and run the report to get the desired result.

Update SharePoint list with project finish date on Project.Updated event

Hello,
I want to update a column in a SharePoint list with the project finish date when a project is updated on Project Server. My OnUpdated event handler is being called ok, but if I change the project start date Project Server runs an asynchronous republishing
on the project, and my event handler ends up being called before the finish date is update by the republishing job, so the code writes the "old" finish date on the SharePoint list. The solutions I could think of are:
Identify the republishing job on Project Server queue, pool the queue waiting for it to finish, then read the finish date and update the list item in SharePoint.
Include a custom job on Project Server queue after the republishing job, that reads the finish date and update the list item in SharePoint.
I don't know if any of the solutions are feasible and how to implement them. Has anyone coded something like this and/or have a better solution?

I did for one of my event handler..Did you try "on published" event?

Unable to Change Project Start Date in Project Server 2013

Dear All,
I have created new EPT in Project Server 2013. After that, when i am creating any new project in PWA 2013 by using newly created EPT, then i am not able to change Date as per my requirement.
Basically, EPT created on 02/18/2015 & even though i am changing Project start date then its again showing same date (02/18/2015)
Kindly suggest what i can do.

Does this new EPT have a project plan template associated? What happens if you set the EPT not to have a plan template then create a new project from this EPT? Does that let you update the start date? The start date should default to today (date the project
plan was created). If that works as expected, add the plan template back to the EPT (if you had one to start with) and test creating another project to see if that then works or you then get the same behaviour. This will point us to the cause hopefully.
Do other EPTs work as expected?

update rules are not activating. under the cube when BI content activation. What is the issue in activating the update rules from BI content. From BI content the available version objects only will be activated i think. Please rectify and resolve the same at the earliest friends.

Project Systems - Outstanding Balances in Previous Financial Year

Hi gurus
I recently joined a company that implemented SAP PS and IM
It became apparent that year end processing was never completed. Amongst others, project balances was never settled (AUC as well as settlement to CO cost centres)
How do I handle this as the previous finacial year is closed? An option could be to get auditors involved, open a special period in the previous FY and settle, or to repost cost into the current year in which case this will affect current budget, previous years actuals, current year actual etc. Any comments

Thanks - you have confirmed what we've thought. The problem however is that the following took place:
Debit balances on projects (which corresponds to a debit balance on a G/L account) were never settled via PS, but were manually journalled out from the G/L account to the receiver. Hence the G/L account for projects is correct, but the projects still have balances on them. If we settled this now in the prior year, we will have to manually offset the one account to another to get the nett effect to be 0. So in effect, there should be no change to the prior year figures. Shoud we do these postings in a special period (i.e. period 13). Thanks

Project Start Date – modification after project was saved.

I created new project with a start date 01/April/2015 and saved it. Next, I change the start date to 14/April/2015 in the setup.
However still in statistics windows I see the start date as 01/April/2015. Additionally, every new task has start date 01/April/2015.
Could you please advise me how can I change that?

1.Firstly I set up project start date as 01/04/2015 in Project, Project Information and in File, Project Information and save document.
2. Afterwards, I modified start date into 14/04/2015 in the same places.
However, the date in Project, Project Information - Statistics was still 01/04/2015 (please check screenshot).
3. But finally, after several openings and closing of the document the date in Statistics is correct (hard to say what is the reason).

I got one table in PLM server like CGPL_PROJECT and R/3 view VIAOM_CPRO_OBJ. What is the relationship between those two tables.
