Project won't recover properly after minimizing

Hi all,
I've been working on a long (65 min.) project for over 8 months. All the source material and render files are on an external G-Raid FW800 drive. Suddenly, the project takes a little longer to load. But most importantly, once it is up and running, if I minimize the Final Cut, or if any other application is used 'on top' of my FCP window, the project will act up as I return to it. What happens is all the clips on the timeline will turn either white or dark gray, my external hard drive will start working, and I'll get a spinning wheel for about 10 minutes. Afterwards it will tell me that my media is offline, and shortly after that, FCP quits.
I have tried trashing preferences, repairing permissions and restarting. No luck so far. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

I've had several issues with project when they get above 200mb in size that they become very unrespnsive and almost impossible to work with. I founf similar issues to your minimising issues along with just general behaviour that almost made think that the mac itself was to blame for everything become very sluggish, yet when you quit FCP everything returned to normal.
Have a look at your project size and if it's over 100MB - 150MB then consider splitting things into a couple of projects. If, like me you like to keep every edit of every timeline you've done on a long (i.e: 60 min) timeline then the project can get very bloated. Try putting gall of these old sequences into a seperate project called "projectname_oldsequences". Then, if ever you need to access these you can treat the project like a bin as were. Remember to delete them from your main project though.
That should speed things up a bit and get you back editing speedily

this seems to happen suddenly to random timelines, I can have other timelines in the same project behave perfectly but suddenly a timeline becomes cursed and then I'm stuck doing a long workaround to fix it
here's my workflow to get to where I am.
I'm bringing in PluralEyes xml's of DSLR footage and field audio,
I'm working off the replaced audio sequences, and then edit the audio in Audition to do tasks like normalizing, hum removal etc.
back to premier, edit, grfx, output.
Sometimes a timeline that I've previously finished a roughcut of just gets corrupted when I go back to it. Ive got it back to behaving normally by deleting all the rendered and replaced Audition audio, and then recutting the clips back into place and effectively rebuilding my sequence. Now these are a series of 2 minute interviews. If this was a major long form edit I'd be completely fu**ed.
About my setup. Late 2013 Mac Pro (Trashcan), 12 cores, 64GB Ram, Mavericks. I use spaces and have 5 virtual desktops typically (one for each app, PS, Pr, Ae, Chrome and other bulls***, one spare for random bulls***)
This is super s*** and I'm on deadline.

The edit is there and the system will play the timeline but it's unusable as you can't work.
Yes, I have seen issues here in support when users transport their projects from one system to another via a portable hard drive. It's very weird behavior and I'm investigating the issue. What you might try is a different method of transporting those projects, like a different drive, etc.
I will add this issue to my report. Feel free to file a bug report here.

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with AppleScript Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain. Note: you may have to Control (right) - click on the app after uncompressing and select Open due to the Sandboxing feature of OS X. If you have problems with the app create your own with AppleScript Editor.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Premiere timeline won't redraw properly after opening project on different system

I've been seeing an issue (for quite some time now) where if I'm working a job on two different edit systems (usually with duplicate media or using a shuttle drive for mobile editing) that when I open the project on the "other" system the timeline won't redraw properly and looks like the attached image. The edit is there and the system will play the timeline but it's unusable as you can't work.
I've found that some combination of duplicating the sequence and/or quit and restart might fix it. Importing the sequence to another project will too. A talk about this on twitter with other editors who have seen this says a relink to the media will fix it. I used to think that was a problem of using Dropbox to store a PPro project files was the culprit but it happens when I use a shuttle drive to keep the same project on two computers in sync for editing on one or the other.
Anyone else? Any solutions?

I upgraded today from cs5 to cs6 and my images won't open properly only a small portion of the image is visible. How do I fix this?

Qosmio g55-q804 won't restart properly after hibernation

my qosmio g55-q804 went into hibernation and now it won't restart properly....it restarts in the safe mode and when going in NORMAL mode, my original desktop appears however, it doesn't respond; my internet connectivity icon has a red X on it, and the programs don't repsond. it works ok in the safe mode with networking but i want to restore my laptop to operate in the normal mode. i've tried system restore while in the safe mode, removing the battery pack, removing the hard drive but to no avail. i'm reluctant at this point to do a full HDD recovery with my recovery CD's....please help! i'm not a computer whiz, and can't afford a new laptop right now

can i create a new account from the safe mode with networking?

Also, let us know how Windows responds when you boot clean (instead of to Safe Mode). You should be able to set this up while in Safe Mode.
   1. Open the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe).
   2. On the General tab, click Selective startup and clear the Load startup items check box.
   3. On the Services tab, click the Hide all Microsoft services check box and click Disable all.
   4. OK out and restart the computer.

Iphone won't sync properly after iOS4.0.1

Hi,
I'm writing here after searching the web and Apple and finding no clue on what's going on
I recently updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS4.0.1 and as a prerequisite I had to upgrade Itunes to 9.2.1.5.
After upgrading both my iPhone OS and Itunes I can't sync anymore!
I can't sync my Contacts/Calendar/Apps/Music/Podcast etc...
I keep getting errors like:
1. Duplicate file name
2. Device timed out
3. can't write to disk
4. File can not be found
Solutions I've tried:
1. Running Diagnostics via iTunes showed everything is working fine.
2. Removed Apple USB controller and re-installed.
3. Made a complete remove of iTunes + QuickTime + Apple software + Apple Mobile and reinstalled iTunes.
4. Did over 20 Restores!!!
5. On the Iphone chose to "erase" everything.
6. on the Info tab, unchecked "Sync Notes".
7. Removing any of iTunes music folders.
Nothing worked! I have a working phone, which I should be grateful for, but I can't sync my music, podcasts or my NIKE runs. I can't even downgrade back to 3.1.3 because it says Apple won't sign the firmware!
I heard that if I "Jailbreak" my device I can downgrade, but I don't want to void my warranty or harm my device.
Can someone please help me?

Try turning your security software off - my laptop running Windows7 and Norton 360 was able to download the iTunes upgrade and work with my iPhone and iPad, whereas my Vista laptop with ZoneAlarm has never let me do an iPhone OS update with ZoneAlarm on, so I turn it off for OS updates. No need to turn it off for synchs after a successful OS update. Btw, I still have not been able to update iTunes on the Vista laptop no matter what I do (turn ZoneAlarm off, download only followed by manual installation of update, etc). Hope this helps!

Mail.app won't work properly after installing Yosemite

My "new viewer window" in Mail.app won't work after installing Yosemite. I can not access the viewer window and thus none of my email.
How can I fix this?

some updates on this issue, Mail application uses the same proxy that has been set on your system (system preferences==>Network==>Advanced==>proxies). People usually use HTTP/HTTPS proxy for surfing the web. You should make sure to set SOCKS proxy as well. Mail application works with SOCKS proxy. Note that port number for SOCKS proxy is usually different from the port number for HTTP and HTTPS but the IP address of your server (apparently) is the same.

USB wifi adapter sometimes won't work properly after reboot [solved]

Sometimes it (WPN111) boots and everything is working. Other times I boot and it isn't working. Reloading ndiswrapper results in this error.

If it isn't working after boot it'll work only if I remove it, reload ndiswrapper, then plug it back in. Has anyone seen something like this before? Is there any way I can mess around w/ the order the uhci_hcd and ndiswrapper modules load?
Edit- Found the problem. Whenever linux restarts the device doesn't have the power cut and it won't reinitialize. If I shutdown, and then restart, the power is cut and it's fine.

Wonder if you have a conflict between two audio cards ... for example, I have a friend with some PulseAudio problems caused by conflict between the HDMI audio from his graphics card and his onboard sound. Something would switch PulseAudio to the wrong card and it would just quit after getting itself into a twist. Unsolved, I'm afraid, but have a look at commands such as:
aplay -l
pactl list sinks
pactl stat
(Latter two will need PulseAudio coaxed into life first)
and of course, the Arch wiki.
If there is a conflict, blacklisting kernel modules might also be needed.

Mac won't boot properly after putting in Windows 7 boot disc

I wanted to get Windows 7 on my Mac, so I got the disc, ran boot camp assistant, and when it said install Windows 7, I put the disc in, and clicked continue. The Mac reset, and after it got past the white screen, it went black, and my keyboard and mouse stopped working. Now I can't take the disc out because it won't let me go to my desktop.

My appstore 'install' button won't work properly after being tapped. How do I fix this?

After I tap the button displaying the price, it moves to the right and becomes a small square/rectangle, then stutters and moves to the lft, become green and saying 'Insta...'. Assuming this is the Install button, I press it, but it just becomes blue again. No matter how many times I try, it doesn't install. Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

LG 22-inch monitor won't function properly after last Mac OS X Update

My new LG 22-inch monitor was working great until I received the last Mac OS X Update (10.4.9). I received this update after installing Tiger (better late than never...ha ha) and after I restarted my system, I saw multiples of the same files on my desktop, and when I would open a window, four duplicate windows would appear (this did not happen until after the update). The only thing that corrects the problem is to go into System Preferences => Displays and change the monitor resolution. But even after I Click to Lock Changes, I have to go in and do this every time I launch my system. I was so vexed that I hooked up the former monitor (Apple CRT, 17 inch) and now the same thing is happening to it! Sigh... I am no Mac Genuis, but I know someone out there can offer some advice! You do have partitions & a partition scheme. To check what the scheme is, click on +the drive itself+ in the list on the left in Disk Utility. It will probably be identified as "298,1 GB WDC WD3200AAJS-40VWA0 Media" or something very similar. If it contains the startup disk, it will be the first item in the list. It will have one or more named volumes indented under it, such as "Macintosh HD."
When you have clicked on the WDC drive instead of a volume name indented under it, you should see seven items of information about it at the bottom of Disk Utility's window, to the right of an icon representing the drive. The info is in two columns. The last item in the rightmost column, below the S.M.A.R.T. Status (which should say "Verified"), should be "*Partition Map Scheme :* " & be followed by the scheme type. It should be "GUID Partition Table."
If you don't see the seven info items after selecting the drive, it may indicate a problem that needs attention, but I suspect that you just haven't looked in the right place for the info....
As for the 'cannot install' message, make sure that you have downloaded the right update, that it is not the server update version for example. You may need to download it again, discarding the first download as somehow defective.

Project won't open properly on other machines

I built a project by importing the topics from a version of
the project that crashed often. The project is now stable, but only
on my machine. It's uploaded to Sharepoint. When another author
works on it when I'm away, there are hundreds of broken links.
I thought it might be the cpd file, so I deleted and tried to
recompile but all of the folders disappeared completely, and
displayed 40 broken links. There are several hundred pages in the
project.
The hhp file .chm reference =Myproject.chm - not a path on my
hard drive - there are no multimedia files and very images.
Some of the file names contained special characters in
German, Portuguese and Spanish (accents) and some file names
contained commas which I of course edited out. Some file names were
up to 70 characters in length, which I have shortened.
We have 30 HF projects, all built the same way with the same
structure, but only this one gives problems, even though it has
been "built from scratch" twice.
Any ideas?

Ideas? Yes, many...
First off. HUGE red flag here. Sharepoint. Conjures images of
a focal point for a big no no with RoboHelp. Sharing. Sharing
indicates a common access point that all can get to. And this, my
friend, indicates your project is stored on a LAN drive.
Move it to your local drive.
Okay, okay now stop the whining about the fact that your
other 30 or so projects have been working just dandy this way. The
unfortunate fact here is that up to this point, you have simply
been lucky. If you do some poking around, you will find many posts
here is this forum about issues that were resolved when a project
was moved off a LAN and onto the local drive. Some will probably
try and say "it's just coincidental" that this works. But we find
it awfully odd that problems like these melt away once you are
working locally. Coincidence happens once in a while, but more than
a few times (as almost anyone who has watched these forums on a
regular basis can attest) is not simple coincidence.

Safari won't open properly after Lion update.

After updating to Lion, Safari will not load any pages. It begins to load a page and goes into an endless loop. No crash, so I can't generate any crash report. I don't see a way to reinstall Safari. How can I get it working again?
