Projecting Keynote from a USB Drive without a computer?

I have seen presenters walk up to a digital projector, insert a USB drive, and show their Keynote or Powerpoint presentations using the projector's remote control. No computer is necessary. How does this work? Do you have to save Keynote or export it in a special format? Can you show a Keynote presentation in this way from any projector that has a USB port? ....Thanks for your help!

It's likely that they have exported it as a Quicktime Movie with manual settings. Any machine that Quicktime on it will them show the movie. The movie will be 'linear' each click will trigger the next action or transition but only in a forwards direction... so practise before you do the big show.
There are other export formats available but I find the Quickmovie the best as it captures all your Keynotes actions and transitions.

  • How do you autorun a Flash Projector (Windows) from a USB drive?

I got a Windows Flash Projector (.exe) that I need to autorun from a USB drive. I just want the user to be able to plug in the USB drive to their machine and have it start running without any menus. I've been using the following with no luck:
    [autorun]
    open=KSF_USB_main.exe
The project is composed of a number of .swf files that load into the "KSF_USB_main.swf" file. There are also PDF and FLV links within some of the movies.
I have the "autorun.inf" file and all other files (including the .exe Projector file) on the USB drive. When I plug it in to a PC it brings up the "What Do You Want To Do?" window and doesn't autorun.
I've tried some 3rd party software that creates a menu file with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to install Windows 7 from a USB drive!

This is even easier than installing Windows XP from a USB drive, and will also reduce the time taken to install Windows 7, it took me about 15 minutes!
The advice in the guide is also applicable to installing Vista.
    You need basically:
a USB flash drive at least 4GB in size
    a Windows 7 DVD
    To sum up:
Format your USB drive, with the NTFS filesystem
Open Command Prompt as an administrator, and run the Bootsect.exe program off the Windows 7 CD to make the USB drive bootable
Copy the contents of the Windows 7 DVD to the USB drive
Restart your PC, press F11 (or whichever key it is) to access the Boot menu, and select your USB drive to boot from

I have done this and it is simple.
I cleaned and (re)formated an 8GB flash drive under Windows7 using diskpart.  I chose quick format and a fat filesystem.  It doesn't need to be ntfs.  I had diskpart mark the partition active.  I copied the DVD contents to the flash drive.  I also made a folder on it for motherboard drivers.
After that, I booted the drive on a new machine.  Windows7 setup came up, and didn't find any hard drives, other than the USB flash drive.  I clicked the button to load drivers, and pointed it to the folder I had copied them to on the flash.  Windows installed without problems.
Hi bnborg..Do u mind sharing with me your motherboard driver folder? I have the MSI U135DX Netbook and each time I hit the button to install Windows 7 it asks me for some mobo driver...Think i might need it to get tru with a successful install..

  • FCP X does not recognize projects and events on USB drive after a time machine restore of the MBP macintosh disk

FCP X does not recognize projects and events on USB drive after a time machine restore of the MBP macintosh disk.
I upgraded from an i5 to an i7 15" MBP and restored my files using my time machine backup. All seemed to go ok, except I had to use the migration assistant because on the initial boot the MAC didn't recognize the backup database on the USB device. MAybe this is a hint.
Since when I start FCPX it too cannot finnd the project or event directories.
Before my upgrade, I had a choice of files either on the Macintosh disk or the 2TB USB disk.
Now only files on the Macintosh are accessible to FCPX. The USB drive is visible under events and project but it finds no projects or events.
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks
    Barry

Thanks... alas no one has responded.
I think I have the structure that you are recommending.
I have a root level directory (Final Cut Events) with the files in them.
The puzzling thing is that it used to work before the migration!.
Anyway I'm going to move the contents to the root and see what happens.
    On a slightly different note...
I also posted a question about CPU utilization. Can I ask a question or two?
While rendering a short clip, I noticed burst of disk activity when the render started (likely loading the media files into ram since I have about 4Gigs available, then almost no activity while the render is happening, then more disk activity when its done.
However the cpu activity is not as high as I would have expected since rendering requires a lot of cpu.
What is your experience? I know some render is done by the GPU, but in my older i5 the CPU was about 100%, now in my i7 its about 50%.
Please look at the attached utilization for CPU and disk activity.
    Thanks for any thoughts... Barry

  • Ibook G4 Back-up from external USB drive

I had a problem with the internal drive on my iBook G4 that could not be repaired easily. I therefore backed up the drive using Superduper to an Iomega USB drive. I then reformatted the internal drive and fixed the faulty sector with Disc Utilities. I tried to restore the drive from the USB drive using Disk Utilities. The problem is that the OS (10.3.9) will not mount the disk saying that there is no disk image. I can open the USB drive on a Macbook Pro without any problem and Disc Utilities on that machine can also see the disk image.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this problem?
    Sam

One of the problems that could come up, may be in the format selected for use in
the setup of the external USB hard disk drive. Another would be the speed of the
USB ports in the computer, since the fastest data transfer would still be a bit slow
when compared to using a more suitable FireWire400 external enclosure with a
known-bootable chipset designed for use in OS X and PowerPC G-series Macs.
If the format of the USB drive is incorrect, the data on it would be lost through an
effort of reformatting it; so the disk image would have to be saved to another disc
or media. The backup to/from a USB drive when dealing with PPC hardware is
usually more problematic and USB generally is not preferred or recommended.
A bootable FireWire external enclosure with port options, such as some have now,
is a better gamble; as some sport USB2.0, FireWire400 & FW800; and boot OS X.
So a backup Clone can boot the computer from a FW enclosure, but generally not
from a USB2.0 or 1.1 external enclosure. My FW400 LaCie 250 Porsche works well.
So, regarding the first issue you mention; the formatting scheme may be incorrect
on the external drive for the older PPC iBook G4 to see valid files on there. The
Intel-based Macs use a different GUID partition map and may have a different kind
of format than the preferred HFS+ (iBook needs APM and HFS+) for the hardware.
Hopefully this is of some help.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can the aTV read files from an iTunes library on my nas drive without my computer being on

I have my itunes library on a My Book Live nas drive that contains all of my digital movies and TV shows. I want to be able to watch my movies from the library without a computer running. I understand that Apple has chosen to chain you to the computer and your itunes account through Home Sharing but I can not see why they couldn't allow you to access a nas drive without a computer running because your aTV is tied to your itunes account also so why do they force you to run a computer 24/7 365 in order to access the files you have bought and paid for.
I have a love/hate for Apple because I love the quality of the products they make but I hate how they make all of the digital files you purchase only accessible through a computer running Home Sharing even though the files are not stored on the computer.
I have tried several things to get this to work without a computer but no luck. The only way I have found to be able to do this is to Jailbreak your aTV and install 3rd party software (which I don't want to do) that will allow you to by pass the computer and Home Sharing (which is dumber than ****) because that is all I want to do is eliminate the need of a computer running wasting electricity (I thought Apple was supposed to be an enviro friendly company, guess not). I am not trying to steal or give someone else my purchased movies and using the aTV and an internet connection they could still be able to tie your media to your itunes account so I just don't get there thinking, or lack of thinking I should say.
Is their a way to do this without Jailbreaking or modifying your aTV?
If not is Apple ever going to wake up and allow there customers to actually USE the media they purchase from them without Home Sharing and a computer running?

  • Can I import catalog photos from a usb drive?

I have imported photos from a catalog into a new catalog.  Some of the photos in the catalog are located on a remote drive.   The drive is not listed when I select the photos to be imported.  Is it possible to import catalog photos from a usb drive?
    Howie

    Hi Keith,
"Import from another catalog" is a selection found in the Lightroom "File" drop down listing. Sorry I wasn't clear in my reguest.   I have used this function to import photos in to my new Catalog from my old Catalog.  During the import process,  Lightroom creates a working catalog from which photos can be selected.     A file list on the left side of the window displays the available hard drive folders.   Once the photos to be extracted are selected the source folder is checked.  The import button, on the bottom right of the window, is highlited to execute the import function.  Since the external USB hard drive is not listed,  the import function is not available.
My question:  how do I enable the import from my USB drive? Perhaps I will have to move the files back onto my internal hard drive using my Lightroom's old catalog.

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

  • Viewing jpeg type pictures from a usb drive

I am wanting a 20"-22" TV that will allow viewing jpeg type pictures from a usb drive. What TV's will support this?

You'll have to look at specific tvs. We carried a 19inch or a 20 something inch insignia I believe that did it at one time. To be honest, it wasn't anything really fantastic.  And make sure you double check on the tv, sometimes it will say "SERVICE ONLY", those you can't use for media.

  • Backing up from one USB Drive to Another

I have two WD USB drinves that I use for my photos, one as the primsary drive, the other as the backup. When these were connected to my Windows PC I could use Western Digital's WD Anywhere Backup software to provide an "instantaneous" back up of any of the photo files that I hadd added / changed on my primary drive. This worked like a charm. Using the software with my USB drives connected to me MacBook Pro . Mavericks laptop the software thinks that it is working perfectly but is not backing up all the files. On a test I specified a folder with 40+K files and 240GB of data as the folder to be watched and backed up. The software reported a successful backup but only 11K files and 60GB of data had been transferred. I reported this to WD who indicated that the software is designed to back up from the coputer's hard drive to a back up frive, not from one external drive to another.
My question is: Does anyone know of any software that will run as a daemon and automatically back up new / changed files from one USB drive to another? Obviously I could do this with any of a multitude of products if I scheduled hourly/daily backups. However, I would prefer the convenience of "instantaneous" backups as soon as a change is made within a watched follder. From what I have read Chronosync seems to be the best backup software for Macs but, as one reviewer noted (http://www.macworld.com/article/2011101/review-chronosync-4-3-5-a-multitalented- file-sync-and-backup-tool.html) "I would like to see ChronoSync go one step further and offer an option found in some other sync software: the ability to watch specified folders and synchronize changes as soon as they occur rather than waiting until the next scheduled run." Can anyone point me to the "other sync software" that offers this capability?
    Thanks in advance

  • How do i download and e-mail from a zip drive without opening the file

How do I download and e-mail data from a zip drive without opening the file?

    Hi.
If you have a Zip drive, you can handle the file as you would any other file. Copy and paste.  Drag and drop. Select and attach as an email attachment.
Zip drive data discs came in two capacities, 100MB and 250MB. So the largest files would not exceed those capacities, depending on the media from which they are pulled.
The trick, I should think, would be finding a working drive that can read the media... and hope that media is not corrupted. Zip media was notorious for failing.
    I hope this helps.

    Dear forum
Sins a few weeks ago i am not able to open office file from my USB-drive.
However i can copy the file to the desktop and than i can open them.
I have this problme only (for as far i know) with office files.
    greetings Ypkoba

If the drive is NTFS format, the Mac can read, but not write thiose drives natively.
So the issue may be that the temp file and the output file cannot be created on the same drive.
