Projector compatability?

hi all, i'm interested in a toshiba projector (costs around £230) but wasn't sure if it is compatible with the mac. I emailed toshiba and this is what they said;
"thank you very much for you inquiry via e-mail. In general, the TDP-S8 supports any SVGA signal via the monitor-in interface
(D-sub 15 pin socket) coming from a computer. As long as the graphic chip in your Mac supports an SVGA resolution ( 800
by 600 pixels), the projector can be used with a Mac as well."
can anyone shed any light on this? or maybe advice on a good projector in my (bottom end) price range?
many thanks
shane

Shane,
This SHOULD work but I would see if you can get ahold of one and test beforehand. The MBP's have been known to be picky when it comes to projectors. I personally am only able to get mine to work with ~50% of the projectors i've tried so far.
Some folks have had good experience using the Dr.Bott GHead II to trick the MBP into sending the signal but for me this isn't a great option and i find myself asking why such a high end laptop has issues with such a basic function.
I reported this to Apple when i bought my MBP (1.5 years ago, it's 1st gen) but nothing seems to have changed. If you search this forum you'll see folks with issues even with the newer "Santa Rosa" versions.
so bottom line, test before you buy.
hope this helps.

  • Apple tv and smartboard projector ux60 not compatable?

Our school bought a new apple tv to connect to our smartboards. The smartboard projector we use is a UX60. We've connected them via HDMI but the signal does not project. I have a feeling it's an HDMI compatability issue. Sometimes we get a quick green screen, some static, and I've even seen the apple tv screen for a brief second. Overall we just get nothing at all. Has anyone else had this problem and is there something we can do to make it work?

    UPDATE!
We finally had success by using a shorter HDMI cord (3 ft.)
So the answer to the question is "yes" but use a very short cord.

  • Is there a compatibility list of what projectors and displays that work

Hey guys i have been wanting to update my mac equipment and the new macbook pro graphics card is one i have been waiting for a while but i have been reading all these forms and website about some projectors and displays not working on it. If there is a list that would be great. Plus should I get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter or the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter or does it matter. I have two displays i use one is a Acer AL2216W 22in LCD and a Sony VPL-PX40 Projector will I have any problems with these ?

...Sony VPL-PX40 Projector will I have any problems...
Probably not. I opted for a Hitachi CP-X2 for my 17" MBP, just FYI. Couldn't be more pleased with a projector.

  • Color compatability with projector

I recently gave a Keynote presentation with a projector. The color on the projector screen was terrible. Nobody knew how to correct it. The only thing I did was increase the brightness because it was so dark. This did nothing for the color. Any suggestions how to avoid this in the future. Do I change the color settings on the computer or projector.

Do I change the color settings on the computer or projector.
You can try both. (I also always try to pre-flight projectors I haven't used before at least 15 minutes before I have to present.)
Most projectors assume a gamma of 2.2 (the PC standard). Macs ship set to a default gamma of 1.8 - you can change this in System Preferences > Displays > Color. Doing this may help you better envision what your presentation will look like. If, when the Displays preference pane is open to the Color tab, you have an option to choose a profile for the projector (you may have to be connected to it), you can choose that.
You can also modify the colors, brightness, contrast, etc. directly on the projector. Some combination of all of this may be required for the best rendition.
Lastly, if the problem was with images in your KN presentation (i.e., the theme background color was fine) you also have the option to adjust your images using the "Adjust" HUD in the toolbar (or from the menu, View > Show Adjust Image).
    Hope this helps.

  • I have a MacBook Air that I am trying to connect to a Hitachi CP-x301 LCD projector. I'm using a Mini display port to VGA adapter but the projector will not recognize the input.

I tried to download a firmware update but my MBA said the update was unsupported.  I'm not super tech, so I'm kind of at a loss.  Ultimately, I want to mirror my iPad to the classroom projector so that I can move around while I teach.

  • How to connect an infocus projector LP530 to MacBook Pro

We are trying to run slide show using an older IN focus projector (LP 530). .  Our lab top is a 3 year mac book pro . It's not recognizing.

    Hello Alliseeisgold2014,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please see the troubleshooting steps below to help resolve this issue of your projector not connecting to your MacBook Pro:
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • How to make a MacBook Pro (mid 2009) work properly with a 3M Streaming projector?

Ok, so I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2009), a 3M Streaming projector and very annoying problem.
When I connect my MacBook Pro with a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter to the 3M projector, I get a pink tint, like a filter over the image, it’s very frustrating.
This are the tests I’ve done:
    1. I tried the adaptor and the projector on a different (more recent) Mac -> It worked fine.
    2. I tried connecting my MacBook Pro to a different not HDMI but VGA projector -> It worked fine.
    3. I used some Terminal code I found on the web to force the Mac to send RGB signal, don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I tried anyway -> Didn’t work
So I’m confused, it’s not the physical port of my MacBook cause it worked fine with a VGA projector, It’s no the 3M projector and it’s not the Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptor cause it worked fine on a different Mac.
    So what is it?
I’m totally desperate, I haven’t been able to solve this problem, so if you guys can help me you will be my heroes.
    Thanks.
    – 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2009) runing Mavericks.

Yes as Clinton says this is correct.
I've used a Sata to USB connector which is only a few pounds instead of an enclosure for the clone, but then I wasn't keeping mt old HDD. But that's an option if you don't need it.
I also use Carbon copy cloner as this will clone your recovery partition as well. Apples disk utility will also clone drives but I'm not sure that it copy's the recovery partition.
I highly redomend my Samsung 840 pro 256Gb - it's about the fastest drive you'll get (nearly) but is backed by Samsung's unrivaled SSD reliability and 5 year warranty. I've also used an 840 basic model on an older macbook and was equally pleased.
Crucial's drives are reliable mac friendly drives but are somewhat slower on the write speeds vs the 840 Pro.
I'd avoid OCZ drives due to so many failures across their range although they do have great reviews and some models just edge the Pro on speed although it's fairly negligible.
As Clinton says, avoid the Samsung Evo drive. I wanted to buy this drive as it is a great drive - but there are many users that have had compatibility issues with it when installed in a Mac. This may rectified on a future firmware update possibly, but until it's proven I would avoid it for now.

  • How to view / play old Director / Projector presentation files?

I have a multimedia presentation on CD from 1997 with both Windows and Mac versions of the presentation, including Quicktime 3 installation, and numerous .dir files as well as the Projector version 6.0.2.  I am running on Windows XP, would also like to view this on MacOS, and Win Vista and 7.  Please forgive my ignorance.  Thanks for any advice.

You should be able to run the projectors on Windows without any real problems, though you may need to right-click on the projector and run it in compatibility mode.  The Mac version will definitely not work on Lion, but it may work on older versions of OSX through Rosetta.  Without knowing what is wrong, it is very hard to say what you will need to do to fix any problems. I suppose the 1st step is to try to run it and see what happens.

  • Connecting to a Network Projector

We're looking to upgrade our office projector and are interested in using the built in Windows feature, "Connect to a Network Projector". I've asked a few manufacturers if they support the future and they said no. I have a feeling that all network
projectors are connectible using the built in tools Windows has. Has anyone had any luck with this feature? If so, what projector brands? We're hoping to avoid installing custom software. Thanks.

  • Computer to projector via HDMI = static/flashing blue computer/no signal

    Hi..
So I have been using my late 2012 Mac Book Pro with a mini display  to HDMI adapter to my projetcor. Over the past few months the quality started to decline, and would have little static blips for a second when watching something. Most recently the projector can't find the signal or mayeb will static blip ir flash the screen up for a second. The computer just blinks the blue screen. I replaced the HDMI chord. Is this an adapter problem or is something wrong with my mini display port?
    Thanks!

  • Santa Rosa MBP - DVI to VGA Projector problems

When hooking up a Sharp PG M20X using a [DVI toVGA cable] and a [VGA to DVI adaptor] the MBP sees the projector, but the projector cannot see the computer.
This is a problem because, I may find myself in situations where this is the only configuration for hooking my MBP up to a projector.
    Note:
    1. A G4 Powerbook works fine with this configuration.
    2. The MacBook Pro drives the Sharp PG M20X projector DVI to DVI - without problems
    3. The MacBook Pro drives a DVI to VGA CRT monitor - using a [VGA to DVI adaptor] - without problems.
    Is there a solution?
    Thanks
    I have a 2.4 GHz Santa Rosa C2D MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Sharp PG M20X Projector (DVI-input)

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • 2 monitors+1 video projector: do i need 2 graphic cards?

I m about to buy a new graphic card for my G5: i d like to use 2 monitors (extended desk) + 1 video projector:
    - has anybody successfully done that with their PowerPC G5 and did it actually work?
    - do i really need 2 graphic cards?
Which card(s) should i get for ultimate result?
(AquaDB kindly sent me this list but i m clueless http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/4B4B7BA2-7ABB-47F1-87AC-B03D379 42BEE.html)
    Thank you for your experiences.

Most G5 cards will support 2 monitors on one card, depending on resolution of th Monitors, but it depends what connections the Monitors/Projectors have... running 2 Monitors plus a projector would require 2 Graphic cards.

I have created an interactive map that has photos zoom up from specific locations when selected.  Used Flash CS3 on a mac, ActionScript 2.0, published a windows projector for playback on a windows 7 system with a touch screen monitor.  The problem is that the program will drop photos sporadically and replace them with a red box.  This happens after about 20-30 minutes of testing.  The projector file is 63.2 MB in size with a total of 56 photos.  I've tested the projector on a windows 7 (home basic & professional) system, windows xp (sp3) and had the same problems, but half the time the a different photo errors out.
Does anyone know if the error is an ActionScript 2.0 problem, CS3 problem, or a windows 7 compatability problem with a window projector file publish with a mac version of Flash CS3?
