Projector + Mac mini

I recently bought a Toshiba MT200 projector and I'm looking at purchasing a new Mac mini (1.66GHz Intel Core Duo).
The projector's native resolution is 854x480 pixels and I just wondered, when I connect the Mac mini to it via DVI, will the Mac mini scale the interface to this exact resolution?
I've connected my iBook G4 via mini-VGA to the VGA port on the projector and, using Screen Spanning Doctor, 854x480 isn't available, only the usual 640x480, 800x600 etc.
Will the resolutions be any different when connecting the Mac mini directly via DVI to the projector as the only display?

I've never tried it personally, but I doubt it. People have normal monitor issues so a projector is bound to put the mini up in a fit. It should work at 640x480 (stretched or not) but I doubt that it will automatically adjust if it will at all.

Mac Mini Late-2012 5.1 Surround Sound Issue

Hey guys, I'm running into some issues setting up 5.1 Surround sound on my mac mini. Heres my setup:
- Mac Mini -> HDMI -> Projector
- Mac Mini -> Digital Output (Toslink) -> Surround sound (Logitech Z906)
No matter what settings i try i cannot get 5.1 surround sound working. I've downloaded test tracks from dolby and all. Logitech is set to 5.1 and all. I've attempted to change the setup in audio MIDI to 48khz + 2ch-24Bit Integer , with no success. The 5.1 option inside of configure output is greyed out. Is there something i'm doing wrong? I've tried the 5.1 test tracks from Dolby through VLC.
Please help me, i've been working at this for nearly 2 days now. I've checked other answers with no sucess.

Unfortunately, there is no configuration option for the S/PDIF interface. The following are the supported output formats:
2.0 (Stereo L/R)
5.1 (Dolby Digital - DVD bitstream or AC3 encoded containers only via QuickTime or VLC)
5.1 (DTS - DVD bitstream only)
To configure for proper 5.1 use, you need to set DVD Player to use Digital Out (Optical), not the Digital Out (HDMI). To configure VLC you need to set it to use Digital Out also, though you may have to fiddle with it to figure out which digital output is which as VLC's advanced configuration options aren't the most user friendly out there.
Once again, for the S/PDIF interface there are no configuration options available other than Stereo. 5.1 tracks will not play properly unless the apps used to play them back are capable of sending encoded digital audio. Dolby Digital and DTS are bitstream formats (encoded), and as such require that the app can work with those tracks.
Audio MIDI Setup does have the option to manually select Encoded Digital Audio in the format menu, but you should not do so as that disables regular stereo playback. The aforementioned apps will automatically switch between Encoded Digital Audio and Stereo, usually reverting to Stereo when playback is concluded.

Mac mini, macbook + DVI to HDMI + projector = No soup for you!

This is driving me nuts!!! I have tried 3 different macs, 4 completely different cables/adapters and they all do exactly the same thing.
1. I connect the mac to the DVI to HDMI cable and/or adapter combo, then connect to the projector
2. I get 2-30 seconds of wonderful projector screen usage (it works, picture looks crystal clear)
3. Then POOF! No projector signal, though it appears mac recognizes the projector.
I can repeat from 1 using a different adapter and/or cable and I get exactly the same results, but if I re-use the same cable I used previously, I get no signal at all.
What the $%@! is going on here??? Is Apple black-listing my cables or something??? I'm using everything from cheap-o cables to $$$ cables with exactly the same result.I run this projector with absolutely no problem from a dell desktop via DVI to HDMI.
For what it's worth, I'm connecting to a LG HS201 projector.

What can be an issue is if your trying to do things like 3D or YCbCr colour encoding. However standard video works fine. Since in your case the common factor is your projector and not the computer or cables it might be it at fault. Early HDMI products did have HDCP handshaking problems.
People have been using Mac minis as media center computer with HDMI for ages since the Mac mini is small and quiet, this probably goes back as far as G4 models let alone Core2Duo models.

Hitachi PJ-TX300 projector and Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo?

My PJ-TX300 projector is hooked up via its PC connector to my Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, via a DVI to VGA adapter (which came with the Mini from Apple) plugged into the Mac mini. I cannot get a clear screen picture at any resolution: there is always ghosting. Can you advise me?

Ghosting would typically implicate the video cable. Where did you get it? It sounds like you may have a very cheaply constructed VGA cable and a better one is needed.

Problem with Mac Mini and Panasonic PT-AE700 projector

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini and intended to connect it through hdmi to my Panasonic PT-AE700 projector (with a 10 m hdmi-hdmi cable and a dvi-hdmi adapter). However there is no signal recognized by the projector.
Any suggestions? I have tried with two different dvi-hdmi adapters between the Mini and the cable. Both work fine with my MacBook Pro, but with the Mini there is no signal.

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to get anything out from the projector through HDMI.
However, I've found someone with a similar problem. It seems the problem is the lenght of the HDMI cable (which in fact is closer to 15 m than 10 m). HDMI is designed to handle at least those 10-15 m runs, but the problem seems to be DVI, which is only capable of something around 5 m. Since I'm converting from DVI to HDMI, I'm subject to DVI's limitations. And the MBP seems to have better capability of handling the weaked signal than the Mini.

Gefen should have an amplifier (HDMI Super Booster) that could solve the problem. I just ordered it to see if it could help in strenghtening the signal and solve the problem for me.

TV:s and projectors for a new Mac Mini 2,0

I intend to buy a Mac Mini to use as a media center with my TV and projector. Scaning some discusion forums, I understand it is not likely to be plug and play. The intention is to feed a Optoma HD-70 with a DVI-D to HDMI cable. Will this work? Anyone have experiences?

New Mac-Mini on a 1080p projector

Would the new mac mini (with leopard) work well with a 1080p projector (Marantz 15s1) using dvi to vga connection? I tried connecting my Macbook Pro to the projector and the picture looks soft even when I selected 1080p resolution on the macbook pro. The projector confirmed that it's displaying 1080p but the picture is still not as sharp as using a windows based pc.

The EMI filters are based on tiny surface mount parts, so I would say trying to bypass them would be very difficult without a schematic and layout diagram and a lot of skill.
Can you at least temporarily connect the MBP to an HDMI port on the projector just to confirm that the fuzziness goes away? That would at least confirm my hunch that the problem is related to filtering of the analog video. If the fuzziness is still present under HDMI, then there is some other issue to be addressed.

Mac mini to projector 75 feet away

I would like to use Mac Mini for video to an epson 720p projector 75 feet away (once cable is run) for movies in the backyard. What are my options for the best signal/price: VGA, SVHS? Sound is wired separately.

Some people have trouble getting a Mac mini to drive even a 6 foot cable with certain monitors. 75 feet seems a bit of a stretch. You could try a high quality VGA cable and see what comes of it. Perhaps the merchant you buy the cable from will let you return it if it doesn't work out.
There are dedicated solutions for extending video over long runs, but they can be pricey. Here is a link to a useful "extension wizard" that can help with a solution.

Mac Mini 5, Dual Displays, and a Projector?

Projector Cannot See Mac Mini (Intermittently)

Hi all!
I am utilizing a Mac Mini (1st Generation) to run video to a projector in a theatrical setting.
This mini has been rock solid and I have used it to do this since May of 2013. About two weeks ago the connection to the Projector began intermittently cutting out. We'd let an audience in, and out of nowhere the projector would search for signal and then reconnect. There are many variables here so initially I believed it was just a loose connection between the VGA and mini display cable.
It continued to happen, almost at the same time every night, 1 minute to show. It then would resolve and be fine until shut down and startup the next day.
Thinking it might be an update issue (as the update reminder was happening close to these blink outs) I updated to Mavericks.
Things appeared to return to normal, then tonight the projector went searching for signal and never recovered so we shutdown the projector for the night (impossible to troubleshoot with patrons in house).
I am completely unclear what is happening, the mini will always tell me it sees the projector, but now the projector appears to selectively be missing the mini. It's not a loose connection or bad cable, and (even odder) it happens only once we've begun seating patrons never during preshow.
There are so many variables here I am looking for any level headed advice on how to get things back to standard operating procedure.

This sounds like a simple port forwarding issue, but I don't understand your LAN setup.
The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled.
The chances are, you're running NAT somewhere in your network. If not the WRT then what? If it's your cable modem then you must have port forwarding configured on the cable modem, and that's where you need to focus - change the port forwarding to point to your Mac Mini's address rather than the WRT.
HOWEVER, it is far more common to have the wireless router perform NAT and DHCP, which is why I question your setup.
Not directly related, but:
The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved
Nix this. Your server should be configured manually, with a static IP address, not DHCP, even with a reservation in the DHCP server. The only advantage of DHCP is for dynamic hosts (hence the 'D' in 'DHCP') or if you expect to change your entire local subnet on any kind of frequent basis. The reality is that you can't just change the IP address of Mac OS X Server like this - there are too many dependencies, so it's better to set it manually, knowing that there's a cost (and pain) to change the server's address.

Mac Mini with BenQ W100 Projector (No signal with DVI Dual cable)

Hi all, just bought a Mac Mini Intel 1.6ghz. Also have a BenQ W100 Projector which have been using for some months with a PC. Now comes the problem! I have bought a DVI-DVI cable (Dual link) and plugged the Mac into the Projector and NOTHING APPEARS! No source found at all. The input on the projector is DVI-I according to the BenQ website.
Question is, am i using the right cable? Is the Mac Mini even compatible with this projector? Nobody seems to know, even BenQ!!

Hi, FYI this is the cable I have. Strangely it only references HD sources and not computers on the description? I would note that PC World (where i bought it from) have shown this cable operating on a PC unit and LCD monitor so im presuming its nothing to do with the cable?)

I used a VGA to DVI cable when the PC was running on the projector. which shows a picture no problem. I tried using the DVI/VGA adaptor that came with the Mac then plugging the VGA-DVI cable into it. As i say no picture just a flicker now and then.
I have tested Mini and he works fine on a LCD TV using the VGA/DVI adaptor and a standard VGA-VGA cable.
I guess i will exchange the cable and see what happens!

Mac Mini to YUV (Component) projector

How can I hook up my Mac Mini via YUV cable to a YUV projector ? Bought a DVI to YUV adapter, but it doesn't work. No picture at all.

You can't unless you purchase an expensive translation box. A simple DVI-to-YUV adapter will only work on displays that have component inputs that are switchable to be computer RGB compatible. Check the manual of the projector. It might have this feature.
