Projector No Icon

I've inherited a bunch of projects originally created in Director 8, I believe. They were updated at some point to MX 2004. Each had a custom icon and a custom icon file was set in the Publish Settings.../Projector panel. I'm now trying to create Projector files from 11.5 and the projector doesn't get the custom icon - only the gray default "Di" icon. I've tried different icon files, even the matching .ico file for Windows, and I can't find anything that works.
I am able to copy and paste the icon into the file in the Finder, and it works, but of course I really don't want to do that every time I create the projector.
Any ideas?

Edit: I re-read and realized you are working on mac. It's probably a good idea to mention that a bit more explicitly in future posts. Ignore my asking you to upload the icon file as I only work on PC and not Mac.

Mac Projector files aren't publishing after months of working fine

I've published Mac projector files and .exe file from Flash CS4 for several months without issue. For the past week when I've published Mac projector files the .app icon appears on my desktop but when I try to play the file the dock opens but the file doesn't play. Any Mac projector files I published prior to this problem play fine.
I've tried creating a new .fla file and have reinstalled Flash but I'm still having the problem. EXE files and SWF files play fine. Also, the Mac projector files publish at about half the file size they did before this problem, while the EXE and SWF files are the same size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a workaround solution I've found online.
When publishing your Mac projector file, also publish the movie as an SWF. Name the SWF file: movie.swf
1. Hold down the Control button and click on your Mac Projector file icon.
2. Select Show Package Contents from the menu.
3. Put the movie.swf file in the root level of the Resources folder.
Now the projector file should play.

Why won't windows icon attach to projector - Dir 11?

I made a windows icon using IconCommander on an intel Mac (snow leopard). The Mac version of the icon attaches to the Mac projector just fine. But using the same procedure in creating a windows projector and trying to attach the windows version of the icon doesn't work. I just get the Di icon on the projector (gray square with "Di") inside. I don't know if the problem lies with icon commander or Director. I don't have a windows machine, so need a Mac solution. I've attached the windows icon.

As far as I know, you can't change a Windows icon from a Mac.

D11 Projector Icons

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble
creating a projector with a custom icon in Director 11? I can't
seem to get my icons to show up, even though I've checked the
"custom icon for application file", and browsed to the same icon
file that worked when I made projectors from MX4. All I get is the
d11 icon on my projectors.
I'm running it on Windows XP, and creating a windows
projector, btw.

How to create a projector that accepts a file that is dragged on its icon?

I would like to develop an application that allows it to receive as input any file that is dragged on the icon of the projector.
In practice: I would like to know the (path of) file dragged on it, so that then the application can work on it.
Do you know how to do?

Projector icons..

i want to make a custom icon for my .osx & my
.exe projector files. I am using the latest version of icon builder
& the Mac .icn works, but the windows .ico doesn't. I am using
a Mac dual 1.8 GHz G4 & photoshop CS2. help anyone?

Way cool for me. I've been using ResHacker for years now, but
it was
corrupting my Shockwave compressed projectors. So I edited (a
copy of)
Director's Projec32.skl whenever I created a new projector.
This still had
problems if I edited some of the fields when creating a SW
projector, though
- and was rather inconvenient. (I see I'm a minor revision
behind. Perhaps
the latest would work better.)
Still, it was such a little thing, leaving a couple of fields
at their
defaults, that I didn't feel justified in paying for that
extra little bit.
Now that Versiown is free, though ... using it on a project
today.

Changing title & icon in Flash projector

I want to create a projector from Flash (projector.exe) that
has my own custom icon and title text in the top window bar.
This is something that I routinely do with Director, (by
editing the icons in the projec32.skl file in Director's Program
Files' folder), but I can't figure out how to do this for Flash.
The idea is to change where it says "Macromedia Flash Player
7" in the title bar and the little "f" icon next to it
to say, "My Own Application Name" , and have my own icon.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

I think there are some free icon hacking tools out there...
or you
could go the easy route and create your exe with mProejctor,
as part of
the build cycle you can spec a custom icon, and there is a
lot of
flexibility with window types.

Apparently, developers
have been reporting issues with icon in Hot Fix 3 even though

Massive icons after projector connection

The other day i connected my macbook to a projector, and now all my icons, including the menu bar, are MASSIVE. I have fiddled with zoom in the view menu, and also with the universal access in syste, preferences, but still, everything is massive!
Even the apple logo when starting up is massive. It normally happens when you connect a computer to a projector, but usually goes back to normal when unplugged. I have tried restarting but no luck.
Any idea?

Click on your system preferences and then click on your displays, click on the build in resolutions until it looks smaller.

Change icon & window title - for Mac projectors? (but not Zinc)

I need to change the icon and window title for a Mac projector made with CS5 (on Windows).
I know there are a few solutions for the Windows exe.
But I can't find an affordable solution for the Mac projector. Any ideas?
I tried the Windows version of Zinc, it created exactly what I need for both the PC and Mac - but there's no way I'm paying $800+ for Zinc just to change the icon and window title.

My feeling was that there was a residual window spec left
over from a previous build. (You can go on adding windows via
Project>Windows rightclick.)
Now - if you Open <yourprojectname>.hpj the project
summary is displayed in dialog format. The first line reads 'This
file is maintained by HCW. Do not modify this file directly.'
Nevertheless, it is possible to do so - doubleclick on any of the
sections to bring up an editable dialog on its settings. There are
buttons at right, too, that replicate several of the doubleclicks.
I'm annoyed that I can't remember which file stores all this data
in an accessible form.
In the General tab of the resulting Windows dialog there are
the options to Add, Remove and Include window types and enter/edit
Title texts. It's worth having a look at what's shown here just in
case there is an Include being copied from another (and possibly no
longer available?) project file.
Perhaps try this (having backed up, of course!!):
1 Note the required spec for your second window.
2 Open the .hpj windows dialog and Remove any and all windows
apart from Main.
3 Open the project and see if the ghost is still there.
4 Is it??

does anybody know how to change the icon on a Mac app-folder
(exported projectorfile)? if I copy the new icon into the folder it
changes back to the Flash icon. OS is 10.4..?

I can't connect to a projector or large screen, the icon is gone from the upper margin

when i tried to connect to a projector at a business meeting nothing happened, as if the adpater was not connected. We restarded the computer twice and noticed that the little screen that normally appears in the upper bar is no longer there and no matter what we do, nothing.
what is missing or what i am doing incorreclty?

I am hear at the New York Public Library now. I am connected to the internet on their WiFi but still cannot get to their site at the address http://www.nypl.org , it times out. I pinged them with this result:

Mini Dvi to VGA for Projector issue

I recently bought a mini DVI to VGA adapter for my new macbook Black 2.4 ghz. When I hook this up to the projector nothing comes through, but the computer recognizes the projector. I know it is not the projector because when I plug in my 12inch powerbook it instantly recognizes the computer and displays whatever is on the screen. I even returned the adapter for a new one and am still having the problem. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Are there steps that I'm not doing, or is there something wrong with the mini dvi on my macbook?

When I attach my MacBook to a projector via mini DVI, all variations of order of activation used, the desktop image appears, but the icons and other open pages are off the screen to the right.
Of greater importance, Keynote presentations appear as two slides side by side, with a timer under the left image and no transitions.
This has happened with two portable projectors and one overhead, exactly the same images with each.

MBP CD2 DVI to VGA not working with projector

I am having issues getting the MBP to recognize a DELL 2300 projector through a DVI to VGA apple cable.
A few months ago there were posts about this, but no solutions. The problem seems to be with the 'INTEL' side of things, as the same projector with the same DVI to VGA apple cable works on an older G4 tower running 10.4.9. The projector also works on an old G4 iBook with it's version of a VGA adapter. To make things more confusing, a DVI to Video apple cable works with the DELL 2300 on my new MBP C2D-but produces a terrible quality picture. Mysteriously, my previous 1st generation MBP CD worked with the DELL 2300 via a DVI to VGA apple cable (but I'm not sure which OS was out at the time 10.4.8?)
My new MBP CD2 definately recognizes the projector through the DVI to VGA adapter, but the projector doesn't recognize the video signal from the computer. It is DEFINATELY the MBP (or universal drivers), as I have checked the DVI to VGA dongle (works), have checked the projector (works with an ibook running 10.4.8 OSX with VGA dongle), have changed resolution settings before and after connecting, have restarted computer, have tested various orders of connecting the projector and cables. STINK! (I also have TWO DVI to VGA adapters, so it is not a bad adapter). I have also played with exchanging various plist files from older universal versions of 10.4.8 that worked with the projector-no help.
As I stated, the projector will work (in horrible quality) with a DVI to Video dongle. Why it will not work with the DVI to VGA dongle is a mystery and annoying I would hope that a newer MBP CD2 would be plug and play (like my previous MBP CD and an old G4 tower and an old iBook G4...but no).
Any ideas, any help, any answers?

Here are the actors in our play today
1. MacBookPro A. (my system a CD2 2.16 with OSX 10.4.9)
2. MacBookPro B. (my friends system a CD2 2.16 with OSX 10.4.9)
3. an iBook (my friends 1.07 GHz G4 with 10.4.8 and a VGA adapter)
4. DELL 2300 MP projector
Plugged in DVI to VGA adapter to the virgin MacBookPro B (never had the projector plugged into it before) Dell projector shows that it recognizes an analog RGB 800X600 signal from MBP B. It projects a beautiful desktop. All is well for a moment.
In Display preferences we see for the MBP B
Color LCD, Display: 800X600 stretched, Colors: Millions, Refresh Rate: N/A
VGA Display
Now, I unplug the DVI to VGA adapter and naturally MBP B readjusts to it's native resolution. Great.
Now I immediately plug back in the DVI to VGA adapter. The computer and the projector searches for signal with none found, while the computer shows no attempt at an automatic readjustment as above (800X600 stretched).
I try the 'detect display' option. It causes computer to stall for a second (as it searches) but it does not detect projector and does not readjust it's own resolution to 800X600 stretched as it did initially. F7 key does nothing.
This is a problem!
So, I shut down the projector. I unplug the projector's power source and waited 20 seconds. plugged it back in, started projector back up.
I shut down/restarted the MBP B.
I plug back in the DVI to VGA adapter into the MBP B. The MBP B screen flashes to all blue, but does not automatically change to 800X600 stretched (remains at native resolution and does not recognize an external monitor/projector)
Enter the iBook!
I plug the iBook's VGA adapter into the projector. The projector shows that it recognizes an analog RGB 1024X768 60Hz signal and projects desktop screen immediately. Plug and play!
iBook display prefs reveal:
Color LCD, 1024X768, colors: Millions, Refresh rate: N/A
Color tab: Generic RGB Profile
VGA display, 1024X768, colors: Millions,
Now. I unplug adapter from iBook, iBook readjusts to native display
plugged back in adapter to iBook, immediately recognizes and displays projected desktop.
Scene 2: The FREAKY thing!
Now, I immediately (after unplugging the adapter from the iBook) change adapters to the DVI to VGA adapter and plug the projector into the MacBookPro B, whallla! Back in business. (computer screen adjusted to 800X600, and projector recognized signal).
Now, what about my computer? I unplug from MBP B and plug into MacBookPro A, and NOTHING...the computer doesn't automatically adjust to a new resolution, and the projector doesn't recognize any signal from the computer.
Ahhhh Freak out! Now, I plugged adapter back into MacBookPro B, and now back to NOTHING. MBP B no longer recognizes projector or readjusts it's resolution. Was something somehow corrupted?
Now, I plugged iBook VGA adapter back in, and iBook once again with it's awesome G4 technology (or dated video drivers or something) recognizes the projector in an instant and projects the screen.
Now, logically I try again to immediately unplug the adapter from the iBook and switch adapters and plug back into MacBookPro B-it worked once right? But, sorry, NOT twice. The mystery deepens.
Well, I think, maybe it is because I didn't restart MacBookPro B before attempting the switcharoo from iBook to MacBookPro.
So, I plug back into iBook-projector. And the iBook works immediately again.
I restart MacBookPro B and plug in to the freshly restarted MBP B...HOUSTON WE HAVE LIFT OFF! The MacBookPro B recognizes the projector and the projector kindly displays the desktop.
Now what about MacBookPro A...Last time, when I did the switcharoo, it corrupted something to cause the MBP B not to work. Let's try it again. Will this plug-unplug-restart-switch adapters-immediatly plug in technique work...let's see. I restart MBP A, and plug DVI to VGA adapter in. Sorry. Same ol' no signals recognized. MacBookPro A not auto readjusting resolution, and does not list any projector in display prefs.
Let's get crazy and immediately plug the adapter into the MacBookPro B...it works-oh so logical...NOT! Why wasn't it corrupted this time by MBP A? MacBookPro B readjusts its screen to 800X600 stretched and projector immediately recognizes and projects desktop.
Now lets see if I can break it again as before. I unplug it from MacBookPro B and back into MacBook Pro B, knowing that this caused it to stop working previously. And...it still works-WHAT? I do it a third time. It still works on MacBookPro B.
So,
I plug it back into MacBookPro A...still nothing. Back to MacbookPro B works like a charm. This time it struggles a bit showing that initially it sees a signal from MacBookPro B of 1192X900 (i Think), then the MacBookPro B switches automatically to 800X600 and the projector works.
Wait..I see something amiss! I see in my MBP A menu bar an icon for Labtick which MBP B does not have. I shut down Labtick, plug back in the DVI to VGA adapter and 'Boom' the projector is recognized.
I unplug DVI to VGA adapter and plug back in to MBP A and 'Boom' the projector is recognized again...no it couldn't be!
Well, it is possible it couldn't be because, I shut down the projector, unplug it's power source, plug it back in. I plug it back into the recently working MBP A with Labtick not running, and sorry folks, now the projector doesn't work again. The MBP A does not readjust it's resolution, nor recognize a projector and the projector doesn't recognize the MBP A.
Let's try the projector in MBP B....same deal. Now it doesn't work. Same symptoms of MBP A.
Back to the good ol' iBook. Of course it works.
Now switching over directly to a restarted MBP B. -DOESN'T WORK (as it did using this technique previously)
Now switching over to MBP A- DOESN'T WORK.
As you can see, it is hard even with multiple computers to find a series of doing things that consistently makes the projector work.
Any thoughts, ideas, ways to diagnose? Thanks!

Mini displayport to VGA adapter to projector problems

I have had zero problems with this combination prior to update to Mavericks. I believe I had Snow Leopard.
Since the update to Mavericks, when I connect my Macbook (white), the projector shows a blank home screen with the shortcut bar, but no icons, cursor, task bar, or windows. Very puzzling, and I'm unsure what exactly is going on.
This is a problem, since I am a teacher and use my macbook intensively to project media, text, and usb microscopy.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect to the switch in our conference room (connecting both a flat panel display and/or a projector, both with much higher native resolutions), all I get is 640x480. This is a huge problem to using bootcamp, and I really need to get this to work. I was able to get a higher resolution 1280x800 on a separate, portable display, so I'm wondering if people have the problem with standalone projectors or only with projectors connected to some sort of switch, in my case an Extron MPX423A. I have also tried this in both Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 RC1 (32-bit), with the bootcamp drivers and the latest NVidia drivers, and the behavior is the same all around.
