Projector not being outputted by iMac

I am trying to connect a projector to my iMac (2011) and the video will not output. Is this simply because there is no cables that work with the Thunderbolt yet?

I'm having the same issue.
2011 iMac 27" > thunderbolt port > Apple adapter to DVI > DVI cable > projector.
The picture shows up for a second then goes away.
If we hook up an old MBP 17" out the DVI port to the same cable it works perfectly.
I also tried my new 13" MBA, same issue as the iMac, picture for one second, then nothing.
Other tests:
I can hook the 13" MBA to a VGA cable and a 47" TV, it works perfect.
I can hook the above iMac, with the same Apple adapter to DVI, same DVI cable, to monitor and it works perfectly.
It looks like the problem is with the thunderbolt port when connecting to projectors.
Do I need a signal booster?  Why does the TV & monitor work and not the projector?  Why would an OLD MBP work w/ the projector when the new iMac or MBA doesn't?

  • External projector not being detected when running Leopard

We have recently upgraded a number of our instructor laptops to Leopard. Since the upgrade, we have confirmed an odd problem.
We have a number of multimedia carts in classrooms. The carts use an Extron VSW2 splitter to supply video to a ceiling mounted NEC LT280 projector. One input on the Extron device gets video from a CPU in the cart, the second input is for the laptop.
We have tested identical computers (2 - PowerBook G4 12" laptops, and 2 - MacBook Pro 15" laptops). In each case, one laptop is running OS 10.4.11, the other 10.5.1.
The computers running 10.4.11 detect the the projector and mirror the display. The computers running 10.5.1 will not detect the projector. The computers running 10.5.1 blank the screen when the video cable is attached, but nothing is displayed through the projector. System Profiler reports under 'Hardware -> Graphics/Displays -> Display Connector:' No Display Connected.
If I bypass the VGA splitter (plug the laptops into the VGA port at the wall plate which goes to the projector), both the 10.4 and 10.5 computers function perfectly.
If I do not have a desktop connected to the VGA splitter, both the 10.4 and 10.5 laptops seem to work fine.
I have contacted the vendor that installed the units – Extron has never heard of this problem.
Right now this issue is affecting several instructors, but later in the term, as students need to give presentations, this will turn into a major impediment.
My speculation (unfounded, at this point) is that Leopard may be reducing the signal/voltage being delivered to the video port; the result being that there is not enough signal to trigger the switchover in Extron device.
Any guidance or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I think that Extron has an loop through on Input 1 for a monitor. You're probably using it for the CPU on the cart. Try running the Macs into Input 1 instead of Input 2. You may get it to work. The proj output on Extron stuff is usually buffered so that the projector doesn't pass info back to the computer. If you go into input 1, the computer will "see" the monitor and output properly.
    Maybe.
Mind you, that doesn't help a whole lot 'cause you need the monitor for the CPU, right?

  • Photo stream not being deleted on iMac

When I delete a picture on OS devices photostream it is being deleted on all devices EXCEPT on my imac photostream. Photostream is enabled on iMac using Mavericks.  Any ideas???
    thanks

It is deleted from PhotoStream on you Mac - it is NOT deleted from the event you automatically import it into based on your iPhoto preference settings - once the photo is in an event it is part of iPhoto and independent of the source

  • My flash drive is not being recognized by Imac

Hi I am new to iMac and I just bought it yesterday. I am trying to move everything from two laptops to my iMac. I have bought a brand new 8g flash drive and when I plug it into the back of the iMac, nothing happens. I took it to Best buy and had someone "format" it but when I brought it back home to try again, my iMac still did not recognize it.
I also have tried connecting an ethernet cable to the iMac and to the toshiba laptop and I cant figure out how to transfer everything.
Last question, when i plug in my iphone nothing happens on my iMac. When I plug it into my PC iTunes automatically pops up, why is this? and what do i need to do?
    Thank  you!

Plug in the flash drive in question. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder. In the lefthand sidebar do you see your flash drive listed? It will appear sort of like this:
Select the topmost listing then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Select one partition from the Partition Layout dropdown menu. Click on the Options button and set the partition scheme to MBR and click on the OK button. Set the Format Type to exFAT from the dropdown menu. Click on the Apply button.
You should be able to use the flash drive on both Macs and PCs.

  • Canon MD 120 Camcorder not being detected on iMac

I have three Macs (iMac 3.1 Ghz Core i5 (Lion), older iMac (Snow Leopard) and Mac Book Pro (Snow Leopard).  Using a firewire cable and connecting the Canon MD120 Camcorder, then opening iMovie and then starting the Camcorder.......nothing detected...any solutions?

I have the same problem after I installed LION on my imac 27" (Late 2010). It was working for few days and then after I restarted my computer my network card just went dead. Since I have several partitions I can boot back to Snow Leopard and it shows me ethernet just fine. So it means that LION has bugs and many bugs from what I can tell. It is wide spread problem and not sure if apple is doing anything about htis.

  • My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?

My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?
Before I updated to OS X Mavericks I was using another external disk that was getting disconnected ocasionally so I bought a new ADATA HD710 portable 1TB Drive and moved the files to it. This new drive which is supposed to be OS X Mavericks compatible takes minutes to show the files especially when opening second and third level folders which has made mu iMac unusable
    What should I do?

Your Mac should be able to recognize many different types of drives (including Windows-formatted drives) immediately for Reading, provided they are in good working condition and not damaged. There should be no need to transfer to a different type of drive.
If there is no recognition of this drive, see if it can be seen in Disk Utility.
If your aim is to transfer the data on it DO NOT use ERASE or PARTITION as these will completely erase all the information on the Drive.
If the drive is present while the Mac sleeps, it is likely to drop out and not be seen any longer, especially if it is a USB-powered drive.

  • My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

Most common culprits include the cable. Try swapping it out for a different one.. or not having the most recent version of itunes. I once even solved this problem by shutting down the computer for 2 minutes. (the longer the better), with the ipad plugged in. starting it up... then itunes recognizes it, launches, and syncs.
Apple has a troubleshooting assistant on this topic:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
It will advise you to reboot. I recommend shutting down instead.

P.S The ipad should charge when asleep and plugged into your Mac. The charging behavior is normal. There isn't enough power out the USB ports to charge the ipad while it is on on some older Macs and nearly all PCs.

  • Registrations for certain software are not being recognized by my Imac.

Registrations for software that require web based verifications are not being recognized by my iMac 27 2010 10.6.8
Included in the list of software that I have been using for some over a year now is FCE 4, Bias Peak, and Sibelius, and iRealb from the app store.
This is not a new issue although with the latest security update installed last week, the problem has been exacerbated.
I had the problem last year but found that if I shutdown (not just restarted) and then powered up again all my registrations would be recognized. Now my workaround no longer seems to work. I actually went for about 5 months with no problems and then occasionally I would have the shutdown/power up until last week.
I mirror the same software on my Macbook Pro 10.6.8 and have had no problems.
    Thanks for any help.
    Michael

I can add Kindle reader to the software list now. I used it last week and this week the cloud didn't recognize my computer.
Also on the iRealb app downloaded from the Apple app store I get a dialog that says the software was purchased on another computer (which it was, my laptop) and asks me to verify with my iTunes ID. I try to verify and it is unsuccessful, can not verify your computer.

  • Messages not being marked as Read on IMAP account on iMac

I use the Mail application on my iMac to read my Gmail. I have it set up as IMAP, and it has worked very well for a long time. Recently, however, I noticed that if I read my mail on my iPhone, or my work computer (both of which have the correct IMAP settings), the messages are not being marked as Read (unbolded) on my iMac. I have to quit and restart Mail for the messages to be unbolded.
Not a big issue, but I wonder why it is happeneing, and how to correct it?

I'm getting this too. Switching to a different folder and back gets rid of the blue dot. This only happens with my exchange account. All other accounts work normally.
