Projector problems...

Hi,
I have just purchased a new Macbook and I have tried to connect it too my projector (Benq PB2250). I realised first of all that the cable I use to connect it too my G5 iMac is different from the one I need for the MacBook, so I went and brought a new cable. The cable plugs in to the port on the side and yes a connection for S Video and a yellow aux plug.
I then connected it all up to my Projector and got nothing except the image repeated 4 times (ish) all over the projected image whilst it was grey and looked like it was snowing on the projected image.
It was really really bad and you couldn't see anything. Totally useless.
I have tried every resoloution I can think of and can't seem to find the right one! Apple care were more then useless! grrr
As I said it is a BENQ P250 projector here are some other relevant information points:
Native Resolution: XGA (1024 x 768)
Projection System: DLP
2200 ANSI lumens
Contrast Ratio: 2000:1
Resolution Support: 640 x 350 to 1280 x 1024
I'm not sure anything else is relevant.
I have connected the projector to my iMac with no problems.
There seems to be many more display options on my iMac like - best for video and overscan and choose the option for Pal or NTSC - none of those are availble on my MacBook !
Can anyone help?? Thanks.

Yes, it does - it clearly says "MacBook" in the description.

  • Mini DVI to Projector Problems

I could use some help figuring out why this setup isn't working...
I'm trying to connect my (early 2009) Mac Mini to my Optoma Projector. The projector isn't getting a signal at all. I already have a 50ft VGA cable running through my attic, so I'm trying to work with that. Here is the signal path I'm trying to run:
Mac Mini mini-DVI port <-> mini-DVI to VGA adapter <-> VGA Cable <-> VGA to DVI-I adapter <-> DVI-A input on projector
The same setup worked when I had a PC laptop VGA output <-> VGA Cable <-> VGA to DVI-I adapter <-> DVI-A input on projector. Therefore, I know the DVI-I adapter and the DVI-A input work properly and play well together.
I tried connecting my Black Mac Book instead of the Mac Mini, and the projector still gets no signal. Since the laptop has its own display, it allowed me to see in the Display panel that the computer in fact 'sees' the Optoma HD72 as a secondary display.
Any ideas to get this thing working?

50 ft. of VGA cable is a pretty long run. The obvious thing to try would be to shorten up that cable and see if it works. I'm guessing that can't be a final solution for your setup, but it's something to try to determine if, in fact, the mini doesn't have enough drive for that length cable run. The problem is more likely with the sync drive level, not the video drive level. So the projector isn't getting sync. That would be my guess. If that is the issue, then you could look into getting a VGA signal amp/booster as a solution.
Is driving digitally an option? Sometimes it can be easier to push digital over those distances, though it's by no means guaranteed. One advantage to digital is that, if it works, it works. There is no degradation. With analog, the signal that arrives at the projector is not the one that left the mini. Not at that distance.

  • Mini displayport to VGA adapter to projector problems

I have had zero problems with this combination prior to update to Mavericks.  I believe I had Snow Leopard.
Since the update to Mavericks, when I connect my Macbook (white), the projector shows a blank home screen with the shortcut bar, but no icons, cursor, task bar, or windows.  Very puzzling, and I'm unsure what exactly is going on.
This is a problem, since I am a teacher and use my macbook intensively to project media, text, and usb microscopy.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect to the switch in our conference room (connecting both a flat panel display and/or a projector, both with much higher native resolutions), all I get is 640x480. This is a huge problem to using bootcamp, and I really need to get this to work. I was able to get a higher resolution 1280x800 on a separate, portable display, so I'm wondering if people have the problem with standalone projectors or only with projectors connected to some sort of switch, in my case an Extron MPX423A. I have also tried this in both Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 RC1 (32-bit), with the bootcamp drivers and the latest NVidia drivers, and the behavior is the same all around.

  • Macbook mini-dvi -- VGA projector problems

    Hi
At the school i teach at we have problems hooking up our new macbooks to one of our projectors. We use a mini-dvi --> VGA cable to hook up the projector. The mac recognises the projector and it gets listed under screens, the resolution also changes. But no picture is beeing projected by the projector.
If we use a mini-dvi --> s/video/rca cable it works fine, but the quality of the picture is too low. The projector works nicely with the older macs we have, wich use the mini-dv --> vga cable.
Any toughts on what may be the problem, or what we could try?

I am having the same problem. I have to do powerpoint presentations at college and it was so embarrassing to go up there and my macbook not sync up. It use to work. I even bought a new adapter. It did not fix the problem. All the windows laptops were able to sync up to the projector but mine did not. This one one of the main reasons I bought a macbook. I need to take my work to school and connect to projectors. I am using the mini-DVI to VGA adapter. There appears to be no physical damage. When I click detect displays nothing happens. Now I have to redo everything on windows. Please, I hope someone has a fix for this. I am using the following; 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 DUo, 1 GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.10

  • Quicktime Video on an LCD Projector Problems & Refresh Rate?

I'm having an issue and don't have a lot of experience with this but hopefully someone has some insight.
When i play back video (formats including DV, DV50, HDV, PRORES422 / interlaced or progressive / frame rates of 23.98 or 29.97) in full screen using Quicktime Player (version 7.4.5) and Present (Shift CMD F) to a projector, the video plays and looks good, with the exception of during certain portions of the video (generally, with a lot of motion), i see either a flicker or what appears to be a scan line, tear, or a trace that scrolls vertically up the image. The flickering/trace is consistent with regard to a particular portion of the video, though when i adjust the refresh rate for the projector, the behavior of the flicker or scrolling trace changes (say at 60hz, it scrolls slowly up vs 85hz where i see mostly flickering/tearing of the image or multiple traces scrolling up). I've tried 3 different projectors, and every combination of screen resolution and refresh rate with no success.
I should point out that when i play these videos full screen on a cinema display (20in or 23in) i don't see this behavior at all.
So, i have a few specific questions:
    1. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and any solutions?
    2. The projector is connected with a VGA cable and DVI adapter. Might a DVI cable resolve the issue? Is the behavior a result of the analog input? (The cinema displays are connected via DVI and don't exhibit the behavior)
    3. If it is a projector issue, any recommendations on a good projector for presenting video played back from a computer?
Thanks in advance for your help. If i've posted in the incorrect forum, please do direct me to the right place.
    Shane

Just a fast reply... something to think about...
Use 60hz, most lcd are 60hz. Check you resolution specs for the projector. If the native resolution is 800x600 use that setting if higher use that.....
If your using the lcd as a secondary display try setting the main display to the same specs. Sometime a mismatch between the two displays can cause problems.
Go with the lcd spec settings that's the main priority and the main display isn't.

  • Santa Rosa MBP - DVI to VGA Projector problems

When hooking up a Sharp PG M20X using a [DVI toVGA cable] and a [VGA to DVI adaptor] the MBP sees the projector, but the projector cannot see the computer.
This is a problem because, I may find myself in situations where this is the only configuration for hooking my MBP up to a projector.
    Note:
    1. A G4 Powerbook works fine with this configuration.
    2. The MacBook Pro drives the Sharp PG M20X projector DVI to DVI - without problems
    3. The MacBook Pro drives a DVI to VGA CRT monitor - using a [VGA to DVI adaptor] - without problems.
    Is there a solution?
    Thanks
    I have a 2.4 GHz Santa Rosa C2D MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Sharp PG M20X Projector (DVI-input)

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • Macbook projector problems

I'm having some issues with my Macbook being run through a Dell 3200MP DLP projector. Until today, the MB seemed to recognize the Dell projector, but the projector's display would repeatedly show "searching for signal". As of today, the MB doesn't even seem to recognize the Dell projector. I'm using a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter all the while.
Prior to obtaining the MB, I used an iBook with an older adapter and that has always and still remains useful. For whatever reason, I cannot get this MB to work with my projector. I've contacted Apple to told me to contact Dell nd then contacted Dell who suggested it was an Apple issue. Is there anyone whose having similar issues or was able to resolve the problem?

    Mmmm ...
Are you able to connect your MB to another projector/external diplay? (Any old monitor should do!) If this work it would at least rule out a fault with the cables/connections.
I think of this because I am now having issues with my DVI/VGA adaptor for the second time. I think that this is the achilles heel when it comes to projecting images from you Mac. The older 'legacy' ports make for more robust connections!
My experience has been that my PowerBook can be a bit fussy if I sleep the unit first before making the connection. Similarly a new Sanyo projector will not display unless i toggle it to the 'video' input and then back to 'computer'.
Hope you get it nailed soon!

  • New Mini Projector Problem - NO SIGNAL on Daily Restart

I just got a new Mac Mini. I have it connected to a Mitsubishi XD490 projector using the DVI adapter that came with the machine. Everything works great, until the next day. I have my Mini Set to auto shut down each night, then startup new in the morning. The computer starts up, and I can find it on my network, but when I turn on the Projector, the projector says that it has "NO SIGNAL" from the Mini. I then push the power button on the Mini and restart it with the projector on and everything works great! I have the Display Sleep mode set to off in System Prefs. I can turn off the projector and turn it back on during the day with no problems. The problem only happens after the nightly shutdown.
What could be causing this "NO SIGNAL" message from my projector?
    Kevin

It sounds like the Mits projector is in violation of the part of the VESA spec dealing with EDID that says a host system (mini in this case) be able to supply auxiliary power to the DDC function within an attached display in the event the display is in a power off state. OK, that was a lot of jargon, but basically what it means is when the projector's power is switched off, it becomes invisible to the mini.
What happens if you just let the mini sleep instead of powering it off completely each night? Can it recover from sleep mode even though the projector is off? That would be one possible solution.
The only other solution would be to get one of those EDID replicators. There are a few on the market that I am aware of.

  • Director 12- can't create a windows projector - problem writing file error

I am trying to create a windows projector of a project. when I get the following error - problem writing file - file name- Can't compress file that has been modified and not saved. The file has not been modified and has been saved. Any help would be great.

    Hi.
You say you have tried publishing to a new empty folder.  From the video I can see that the folder has table1.app in there (25 secs in) which is a Mac projector that has been published.
Yet you have Windows Projector checkbox ticked at the start of the video.
I publish Mac and Windows projectors to entirely seperate folders as a matter of practice.
I call the folders "Published" and "PublishedMac" and that is where the respective projectors for each piece of software lives.
Perhaps there is some mix up between Mac and Windows publishing that is going on because
you are publishing both to the same folder?
    Hope this helps.

  • Flash Projector problems

I've had help with this project earlier and it was working great until my office decided to upgrade everyone to Windows 7 Professional. I'm not sure if the problem is my OS, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me.
The problem is I've built a digital catalog in Flash CS4 using AS3 that opens video files and pdfs. The problem is that while the video files open without any problems, the pdf files open inconsistantly, opening sometimes and leaving a blank page other times. I don't care about the pdf opening in a browser, I just need it to open consistantly. I can't figure out what causes them to open, but when they do, they only continue to open until I close and reopen the projector, at which point they will no longer open.

  • Stub Projector Problem

I have a stub project I have created to launch a .dir file.
Here is the directory set up: Stub projector and "disc1.dir' are in
the root. Then there is a folder for the linked files from the
"disc1.dir" and an xtras folder. I theory I should launch the stub
and because the "disc1" is in the root it should located it. Then
the movie.dir should locate the linked files because they are in
the same correlation as they were during the creation of
    "disc1.dir".
The problem is that none of the files are being located. The
stub asks where the .dir is, the .dir askes where it's linked files
are. When I manually locate them it all works fine but that is no
    good.
Here is what the stub code is:
    on exitFrame me
    go movie "disc1"
    end
    I also tried:
    on exitFrame me
    go movie "disc1"
    the searchPaths = [ ]
    add the searchPaths, the moviePath
add the searchPaths, the moviePath & "linked files"
    end
I am sure I am missing something simple and with limited
lingo expertise I can't quite find what it is.
    Any help would be great.

Try setting the searchPaths. Here's an example that tells the
Director player to find movies in subfolders of a folder named
Assets which is hidden inside the Xtras folder:

  • Projector Problems with Mac OS 10.4...

I am using the Director MX 2004 10.1.
When I am creating a Projektor to be used in a Macintosh
Kiosksystem it works until Mac OS 10.3.9 perfekt. On Mac OS 10.4..
I have the following Problem: The Computer restarts in the morning,
but the titel bar and the "Dock" do not disapear and the Projektor
does not run (it waits on the first frame until somebody clicks in
the Screencenter). This is fatal, because any user comes to the
backgroundfiles and can destroy things! I tried out different
    projektorsettings with no results.
    Can anyone help?

I'm going to take a guess at this one.
Before you do ANYTHING, make sure you know the password for
the main user on your Mac. This is the password you have to enter
everytime you run an update or try to change a read-only file. If
you don't have this password you could get stuck.
Now, the very first thing you should do is set up a new user
on the Mac (under "accounts" in system preferences). Name it
"KIOSK" or something similar. Do not give Kiosk admin priveliges.
Click on "Limitations" and restrict Kiosk to a simple finder, and
choose which applications and folders they can use. That way even
if a user shuts off the projector, they can't do anything you don't
want them to do. Whenever you need to set up a kiosk booth, make
sure it logs in automatically to the user "Kiosk". To do this,
click on "Login Options" and choose "Automatically Log In as"
(Kiosk). Enable "fast user switching" so that you can switch over
to the admin user if you need to.
All of this is under "accounts" in System Preferences.
Now, onto your real problem. I think what you're saying is
that you have the projector among the startup items, so that it
launches automatically when the Mac turns on. But the Projector is
not active until you click on it. Is that right?
I don't know if this is correct, but it sounds to me like the
    Mac is opening another application
after it opens your projector, so the projector is not the
active application after startup is complete.
Try this: go into System Preferences on your Mac. Click on
"accounts." Then click on "Startup Items"
If your projector is on the list, then we're on the right
track. Now drag the projector to the bottom of the list. This will
make it the last item that opens as the Mac starts up, and
therefore it will be the active application.
If this doesn't work, then it could be something in the way
OS 10.4 opens startup files. It might run an invisible or system
application (like Finder) after it opens the startup items. If
that's the case, I can't help you, but probably the best thing to
    do is go to the
    OSX
10.4 Tiger Forums and ask how to make a startup item be the
active application when startup is finshed. Explain that 10.4 might
be running another application after it starts your projector, but
you need the projector to be active.
I hope I understood your question properly and gave you the
    right answer. Good luck!
Update: To fiddle with the startup items for the user named
"Kiosk", you will have to give Kiosk FULL PRIVELIGES until you get
it set up. Once it is set up, switch over to the main user, and
    take away Kiosk's priveliges.

  • Screen and projector problems

This morning while using a projector I have used before only the screensaver would project. Things would appear normally on the MacAir screen but only the screensaver would appear through the projector. It is a screensaver I have had for  a long time and a projector I have used before. I tried all my usual approaches to fixing the problem but nothing worked. I am guessing I have accidently changed a setting somewhere but I don't know where.

    Hello Anyx1582,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The following link has an overview of using multiple displays with OS X Mavericks.  Along the bottom of the article under "More" is also information on how to arrange your displays.  The way you described it, sounds like the displays were separate rather than mirrored.

  • Projector problems using Lightroom

I am a photography teacher in Germany. The school recently purchased a new high-end (HDMI) projector (40,000 Euros) The quality is incredible. The projector works perfectly when using PowerPoint and Windows Photo Viewer. When I open Lightroom, the projector periodically flashes on and off. The projector works perfectly for all the other teachers in a wide variety of applications. I need to find a solution to this problem as Lightroom represents my tool of choice for post processing. Below are my system details.
    Computer and OS:
    HP EliteBook 2760p
HP Docking station using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to the projector
    Windows 7
    Lightroom 5.3
The IT staff at the school are very good and they do not know what is happening. I have tried several different cables and nothing appears to fix the problem.
I look forward to hearing from you,
    Jim

To clarify, PowerPoint and Windows Photo Viewer work with YOUR laptop connected and only LR has an issue, correct? Does LR work at all and if so in what modules, how soon do you see the flashing, what color is the projector screen, is it displaying a message? It sounds like the HDMI handshake is getting dropped for some reason. My first suggestion is to refer to the user manual, online troubleshooting on the manufacturer's website, or contact the projector manufacturer's tech support. Also make sure you are using a "Certified" HDMI 1.3 cable form a name-brand manufacturer of no more than 3 meter length.
    Other things to try:
Set the projector in Lightroom as the 2nd display (1 and 2 icons in lower left-hand corner). You may need to use Windows display setup Guided Help: Dual monitor setup is easy in Windows 7!
You might also try installing Lightroom on another laptop or desktop and see if the same issue occurs.

  • CDROM - fscommand to call projector problem

i apologize if this is overly simple solution for most, but I
want to be sure I'm not battling the problem with fscommand in CS3
    at the same time.
For a CDROM project, I have a simple menu projector file to
call 3 different additional projector files, all located in the
fscommand folder. The problem is that each called projector also
accesses a set of flv's located in another folder.
The call to the 3 projectors works fine, but they then can't
access their flv files/folders. I tried renaming the folders (and
calls within each swf/projector) to be local to the fscommand
folder but that didn't work either.
So placing all three called projector files in the fscommand
folder, and their corresponding flv folders there as well doesn't
    work (e.g.:
    fscommand/flv_1
    fscommand/flv_2, etc )
Hopefully this is just my own ignorance - Flash isn't my main
    job.
    I appreciate any guidance!

    2le,
Sorry for my mistake. I meant to write
    Stage object, not Scene.
The Stage object acceses the flash player in any environment
    it is running in:
    - plug-in/ActiveX control in a web browser
    - stand-alone player
    - projector (.exe file)
Try setting the following properties of the stage object:
    aMovieClip.stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    aMovieClip.stage.showDefaultContextMenu = false;
    aMovieClip.stage.displayState =
    StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;
where aMovieClip is any movie clip in your display tree.
    Good luck,
