Projector resolution?

I am hooking up an Epson Home Cinema digital projector to an iMac G5. When the projector is not connected, the highest I can set the screen resolution is 1440 X 900. But when I connect the projector, then I have the option of 1920 X 1080 (which is the native resolution of the projector). However, the screen on the Mac looks the same whether it is set to 1440 X 900 or 1920 X 1080. I am confused about the resolutions. Is the projector only showing what the screen is showing? And what is the screen showing--1440 X 900 or 1920 X1080? Or can the projector show 1920 X 1080 while the screen is showing 1440 X 900? Any help to clarify resolution and projectors would be much appreciated.
--Nancy

The 17" iMac G5s if I remember correctly maxed at 1440 x 900 for their screen.  The higher resolution I believe is just for the projector.  Once you determine the size of your screen measured diagonally, you can tell what the max on screen resolution is, or try to change resolutions with Apple menu -> System Preferneces -> Displays with the projector not attached.  Thaat would resolve that mystery once and for all.

  • Airplay screen mirroring on 4:3 projector, resolution problems.

    Hi!
I have an iPad 3, an ATV3 and a NEC NP400 projector which I'm trying to get to work together. I'm not sure about the projectors resolution, but i know it has a 4:3 aspect ratio.
I've tried to use screen mirroring with both the ATV 3 and a VGA adapter, and the problem is that I get black bars on each side no matter which method I use. I understand that the iPad 3 has a 4:3 aspect ratio and that black bars would appear with a 16:9 screen, but not on a 4:3 screen which is the ipads native aspect ratio.
It feels as if the iPad by defalut assumes that I'm having a 16:9 projector and adjust the aspect ratio to that fact. Is there anyway to tell the iPad that i'm having a 4:3 projector? Or should it detect that automatically?
The ATV fills the whole screen without black bars on each side, but as soon as I'm turning screen mirroring on via airplay the aspect ratio changes. There is no difference if I'm using the ATV or the VGA adapter.
How does these things work, and is there a solution?`
    Thanks!

  • Projectors (resolution) and Apple TV

I need some help in clarifying two things here.
    1. What projector resolutions are going to work with apple TV (the new little black box)?  I have a projector that is XGA (1024 X 768).  Can it support apple TV?  I am also looking at other projectors... WXGA (1200 X 800) and HD projectors (1920 X 1080) (1080p).  Can a WXGA projector support apple TV?  I imagine the HD projectors can.
    2. If my XGA progector can support apple TV, has anyone found a device that works with converting HDMI to VGA?  http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011410 &p_id=8126&seq=1&format=2&res=1  Has anyone tried this device and has it worked?
    Thanks a bunch!

Ok, I have checked the specs on my Toshiba TDP-T9U projector.  http://www.projectorcentral.com/Toshiba-TDP-T9U.htm says, "

The 10-bit DAC (digital-to-analog converter) can convert signals up to 1080p with 165 MHz/1.65 Gbps per channel bandwidth. "
So, I am assuming those 2 issues are taken care of, right?!  Perhaps I'll buy the converter when it comes off back order and I'll repost indicating if it works or not.  I'm sure there are many people in the same boat as me.
Thank you for clarifying those 2 issues.

  • SXGA+ Projector resolution not supported ?

    I have a projection design f30 projector that has a maximum native display of 1400 x 1050 SXGA+
From a PC it will display this resolution no problem however with a macpro or any laptop i've tried the most I can get is 1280 x 720 ?
Is their anything I can do to rectify this ?
    Many thanks
    Matt

Dual Link DVI is used to support displays that are very wide, such as the Apple Cinema display. These displays divide the LCD into left and right zones, (as if it were made of two LCD units side-by-side). The control signals are used for both sides, but the data are provided for the left and right panes separately, on two sets of pins in the cable.
A dual link DVI cable/port must have all pins populated. A single-link DVI port/cable often has three columns of pins near the center missing.
You can only Mirror resolutions that also work for your built-in display. If your built-in display cannot do this resolution, then the setting will not be available for the external display.
When you switch to "Extended Desktop", many more resolutions will become available for the external, because the built-in and the external can each operate independently. Each display in "Extended Desktop" will be looking at a portion of a very large Virtual Desktop, (i.e., they will not hold exactly the same picture.) You can then use the arrange button that appears to position the two displays into the Up/Down Left/Right orientation you prefer.
The windows you wish to display can be moved to display completely on one display or the other, or overlapping both displays. This feature works for all well-behaved Mac Applications.

  • Imac and external projector resolution problem!!!!!

hello! I´ve benn using an imac24" for about 4 months. When I attached my projector with a capasity for 1024x768 85Hz while my imac´s is 1920x1200.
My problem is that I want my imac to use it´s highest resolution at 1920x1200 while my projector is using 1024x768. Is that posible, and if, how would I make it happen?
    //Wilhelmsson.
    Imac 24", core 2 duo   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

You can only do this if you have the system set for "extended desktop", where the images on the two screens will be different. If you want to run the system in "mirroring" mode, where the iMac's screen is duplicated on the projector, then the resolutions have to match, so you'll have to reduce the iMac's screen to 1024x768 to match the maximum resolution of your projector.

  • Auto detecting projector resolution?

my wife teaches college and uses an overhead projector often. i'm trying to get her to use her macbook and keynote so she can use the remote (she takes her macbook to school anyway), but whenever she plugs it in, the projector shows the wrong resolution on the screen (it's 4:3, by the way). and the resolution on her macbook is out of whack, too, when it's plugged in (desktop is way too big for the screen, meaning you can't access a bunch of stuff on the top - including display preferences.)
my question is: can it be set so all you have to do is plug in the projector to the macbook and both display the proper resolution?
bonus question: can it be set so the macbook has the proper resolution when you unplug it from the external projector - i've had her call me several times to rectify this over the phone.
    thanks!

OK, well without further information, I will take a swag at this. I am guessing the projector is really old and may only support a max resolution of 640 x 480, or possibly 800 x 600. In mirror mode, that means that both screens, e.g. the MacBook's and the projector's, must run at the same highest common resolution. But running the MacBook at 640 x 480, you are right, a bunch of important stuff may not fit on the screen. So that is my guess why she can't "simply plug it in and have it work."
She might be better off running non-mirror mode and just using the projector as extended working space. Then she will have to drag the window containing the information she wants her audience to see onto the other (projector's) display area. That's all I can think to do.
i appreciate the input - especially without a lot of information. i may try the mirror mode.

  • Screen/Projector Resolution in Windows

We've just setup around 50 or so new iMacs that we're running Windows Vista on via Boot Camp. We're having some trouble connecting projectors to them that we haven't had with previous models.
We can get the projector to mirror the image with no problems, but for some reason we seem to be limited to a resolution of 800x600 when we do this. The projector and, of course, the iMac display are capable of much higher resolutions. If we disconnect the projector, we can set the display resolution to whatever we want. If we boot to Mac OS, we have no problem scaling up to higher resolutions on both the built-in display and the projector--so it would seem the hardware (nVidia geforce 9400, as I recall) is definitely capable.
Is there some little setting somewhere that I'm missing?

    Hi Veronica,
just to rule ou the obvious:
Have you installed the BootCamp Windows Drivers from the OSX DVD yet ?
If not, while in Windows pop in the OSX DVD and the Driver Installation should start automatically.

  • Native Projector resolution

I creating a video which I will be show tomorrow. I researched the projector and see its native resolution is 1024 X 768 and with Premiere Elements 12 I don't have that as a save option, any suggestions for a complete newbie?

    Ruidoso Bill
I do not work with projectors but, from what I have read, I believe that I have introduced relevant focus points for you to consider. You might want to take a look at the video in the following link where the presenter shows a result when using 16:9 video with the 4:3 type of protector that you have.
    http://www.projectorpeople.com/resources/aspect-ratios.asp
The link is presented for informational and non promotional purposes.
    When you wrote
I shot the video with a Nikon D800, HD 1080i 29.97 Fps editing mode, Frame size is 1920 X 1080. When I save the project for use as playback on this computer it displays the frame size as 720 X 480.
is it possible that your export settings were not correct? You may have missed an opportunity to customize the export settings to 1920 x 1080 and got caught up in a SD setting? If the projector was not implicated in your result that I quoted, it may just be a matter of adjusting the export settings rather than a major problem with the scaling done by this projector when 1920 x 1080 16:9 video was involved.
Are you sure about the 1080i? Could it have been 1080p. From what I have read of your Nikon D800 it would appear that it uses just progressive frame rates.
    If you have 1080p, then a good export choice would be Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD/with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30 or Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD/with Presets = Vimeo HD.
We will be watching for further developments.
    Thanks.

  • What is the ideal resolution combo for MBP 13" and Projector?

In our school district we are using 13" MacBook Pro's (OS X 10.7 Lion) and external epson projectors, projecting to a Promethean Smart Board. The default resolution for a MBP is 1280X800, that is a no brainer. Now everything I've been reading says that projectors like to be on 1024X768. When we do that the projector resolution dictates that resolution to the MBP screen and the MBP screen is of course distorted. They don't play nice when trying to set independent settings. We've found that 1280X800 for MBP and 1280X960 for the projector works best. When set at these settings and you plug and unplug the VGA adapter the settings on the MBP hold to 1280X800. But we have to keep calibrating the Promethean Smart Board though inbetween plugging and unplugging the VGA adapter's. Any ideas?

Try setting up the projector at 1024x768 as it calls for, but you want to use the best image. This might require a resolution reset as you are dealing with 3 different viewing sources. (ahh, if only they would come up with a standard.
You can try a pram reset with everything up and running, this can sometimes correct distortions.
    NVPRAM reset:
Power down the mac, power it back up, before the start up chime, press and hold the following keys:
option, command,P,R,(no commas) and continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times. See what you have. You might have to reboot.
Also you can try connecting the projector, fire up the mac then the projector, it might auto-detect. You can try system preferences click detect displays,
As for the smart board, you would have to contact the manufacturer for details.
I know I have not offered much here, but it's worth a try, can't hurt anything.
Also, if you plan to contact the Community in the future, please ammend your profile with the model and OS you are using, as it could help you get more info.
Does your IT person have  stuff locked out? Most school districts have many of the useful tools locked out.
The reason I know this is my wife is a school teacher, and we end up doing most of her multi media stuff on one of our personal computers, because of the lock down imposed on the entire staff.
I hope there is something that might help you here. If not get your IT person to make it happen.(If they can)

  • Laptop display plus projector with different resolutions

I have a T61 with the latest Presentation Director installed and a Sony VPL-CX100 data projector.
I want to display my laptop screen (1280 x 800) and my LCD projector screen (1024 x 768) together.
When I try to create a new display scheme the projector resolution is always greyed out and the resolution defaults to the lower (projector) resolution so when I switch back to LCD only I get a low resolution blocky display.
Can I safely set the resolution for both laptop and projector to the higher laptop resolution (1280 x 800) without damaging the projector?
    Thanks,

The monitor and external projector will have to have the same resolution if you are using them in cloned mode. Setting higher resolution on external display won't damage it but you got to be sure that it is actually supported by the projector.

  • Projector is not able to connect with Satellite U300-151 Fn+F5 not working

    Dear all ,
last sunday I tried to connect my laptop with Panasonic projector and pressed Fn + F5 keys , but of no use it was not showing anything on the projector ....
Please tell me step by step precedure for solving this problem.
    Thanks and regards in advance
    alex

    Hi alexphill ,
Here are the things you can try to resolve this problem.
One of the reason why the FN+ F5 is not working is *the projectors resolution doesnt match the resolution of the system*. Maybe the resolution of the system is much higher than what the projector can take,
Try lowering it down or play with the display settings.
To change display settings ( For Vista )
    1. Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.
    Hopefully this should work :)

  • Connecting to LCD Projector

Before owning my current MacBook pro Core2Duo I had MacBook Pro CoreDuo and PowerBook G4. With these previous laptops I was able to connect to LCD projector no problem. Now I am in Japan in big business meeting trying to connect my newest MacBook pro to the same projector as was working with my older Mac and nothing. I tried mirroring on and off, change projector resolution, change display preferences. Nothing. I had to copy my PowerPoint to someone who had Dell PC and work off it.
Any idea how to fix MacBook Pro that it would work with LCD displays.

    Hi,
I had some trouble initially, too, but now I use the "detect displays" option and it usually works fine. Here are a few more tips copied below--these are not my own--but I forgot to make a note of who to credit.
    Good luck,

    Projector Troubleshooting
For some reason, Apple thinks it's important that you connect the VGA cable to the adapter first, and then the adapter to the computer, in this order. Have you done this?
Try forcing the MacBook Pro to re-detect displays by pressing F7 (or Fn+F7 if you have customized the function keys).
Go to System Preferences>Displays> and click on “detect displays.” Also go to Arrangement and then check the box that says "mirror displays."
Also try setting the resolution output to whatever the projector is (1024x768?).
"To detect the TV or other external device, hold down the Command (x) key and press the F2 key. You can also open the Displays pane of System Preferences and click the
    Detect Displays button.
6 To adjust how the image is displayed on the device, use the Displays pane of System Preferences."

  • Noisy images on projector using 10m DVI cable

I am looking for feedback from other Macbook Pro owners who have tried running a digital projector from the DVI output on the maximum cable lengths that have been successful.
Background Info - I am running a wilderness show from my Macbook Pro to a JVC DILA SX21 projector which may be up to 10 metres away in certain venues. I was able to do this with my Powerbook G4 but the image from the MacBook Pro has a lot of "sparkles" which indicate that the DVI signal levels from the graphics card are not sufficient to run the 10 metres. I can use up to 5 meter cables OK but am having to look at investing in a DVI amplifier to get a "clean" image. The 10m DVI cable I have is a high quality LINDY product and works fine from my Powermac G4's DVI output, so can anyone confirm whether this lower DVI signal output is a "feature" of the Macbook Pros or whether I have a dodgy video card.

Thanks for your response. The situation that would require the 10m DVI cable is one where to avoid setting up in front of the audience we can mount the projector from a roof beam, then run the DVI cable overhead to a rear sound desk. I have thought about trying to assemble the presentation using Keynote and using the IR remote - that may well be an option to keep the gear away from the audience in some venues where a short cable can be used. Your comment about the TMDS clock rate being lower with lower resolution images may explain why I was able to run PAL 768x576 resolution video to the JVC projector OK from the Powerbook G4 with the 10m DVI cable. With the upgrade to the Macbook Pro I am now running full projector resolution of 1400 x 1050 at 25fps, (3.3 times the PAL data flow) and some HD video which the projector is down scaling.

  • Slide organizer and resolution questions

    Slide organizer
-When I'm using the rehearsal mode, pressing the 'menu' button on the remote brings up front row, not the slide organizer. It doesn't matter if the 'allow expose, dashboard to use screen' option is checked or not. I'm wondering how this will actually behave when I'm actually presenting the slideshow. Will it bring up the slide organizer (which I want) or will it launch front row?
    Resolution
-I'm still confused after reading the documentation on choosing a slideshow resolution. With options enabled allowing keynote to resize the slideshow, will that resize to the projector resolution? I don't know what resolution the projector is, so I'm worried everything won't display correctly. Any recommendations?

After years spent on PowerPoint this is something making me very confused too. I simply do not have idea why I should define "Resolution" ... when I do not know ... never ... what projector I will be using for my presentation.
Resolution of presentation never was the issue in PowerPoint

  • What resolution does Pages export Images to EPUB?

I was wondering what resolution Pages09 Exports images to EPUB (which are then readable in iBooks2?)
In other programs from Adobe and others you can control the Image conversion Resolution before you Click "Export" to EPUB?

I agree it isn't very helpful...but that is all I have been told. Still trying to fiond out what the projector resolution is.
I am using a fit within...but everything I am reading about projectors tells me I should be able to use higher resolution for a projector. This is more of a Foto Magico question as it pertains to images coming from Aperture.
It is less the image resolution and more the slideshow settings I am trying to figure out. Maybe this is not the right place to post...  Thanks Frank.
