Projector suggestions

I'm currently in the market for a projector for use in the classroom and academic presentations at conferences. I was originally looking for a projector that had a DVI input compatible with my Macbook Pro, but now I am also considering a wireless. I have a budget of up to $1,500; suggestions?

I am looking too. I keep coming back to the Infocus IN10 it weighs just over 2 pounds, is bright and in my price range at 1250 but I would like to hear from a mac user who owns one.

What Projectors and with what adapters are you using?

  • No 1080p output from ATV3

I have my ATV3 connected to my 1080p projector through a DVDO iScan VP-30 and the ATV3 will only output in 720P mode and doesn't even list 1080P in the choice of output resoluions. Does anyone have any ideas on this issue?
My projector is a Marantz VP-11S2 and supports 1080p

I have tried this and I get an "out of range" message from the projector.
All my video settings are set to Auto on all devices.
The troubleshooting for the projector suggests changing the output resolution V (Hz) and/or refresh rate of the device.
I occasionally get a flash of the ATV3 home screen but then it goes away again.
The 1080p output from all my other players work fine when connected directly.

Can't connect external projector to MacBook Pro running Windows7. Any suggestions?

Did you try a cable? The point is you did not provide any information about: what projector, how you are trying to connect, what happens when you try, error messages if any, does an external monitor work, what computer you have, what OS, etc.

  • Seek interface suggestions for interactive Projector movie to be displayed on a digital projector

This is kind of a weird involved question and may not belong here, but I don't know where would be best to ask.
I'm putting together a tongue-in-cheek game show for a party. The graphics will be projected onto a projection screen via digital projector. At first, the plans were for everything to be done in PowerPoint, but I don't know it well, and want to do animations, game show sounds and animated screens with quiz questions in Director. I'm trying to decide whether my idea for an interface hidden from the audience will work. I'd prefer all the buttons that control the projector are not displayed to the audience. I'll be clicking these buttons in real time as the show progresses, displaying questions and playing sounds & graphics, etc.
Issue #1 is I won't have the laptop or the digital projector until the day before the event, which is in another state. The laptop doesn't have Director so everything needs to be finalized and exported as a Dir. Projector before I fly out.
Issue #2, I don't know anything about digital projectors and won't be able to practice until its too late to alter my Dir. Projector. (I'm making a Powerpoint show to fall back on.)
Here's what I was thinking, because I don't know if digital projectors have to show everything on the monitor, or can they be adjusted to display a partial screen?
    http://oi57.tinypic.com/2ivlfg2.jpg
Ideally, the audience would see only an 800x600 stage - but my movie would be 800x700, with a bunch of buttons for all my sounds and animations in the bottom, visible only to me
Anybody had experience making something like this for a digital projector? Pointers, suggestions, advice appreciated!

I suggest you skip the on screen buttons and let director detect on keydown or if keyPressed events on the laptop keyboard instead of controlling the movie with mouse input. You can build some easy navigation, play sounds, videos or whatever for your game.

thank you, I have the adaptors so glad that would work.  I just heard adaptors burn out often.  So Just thought for my main iMac computer, a plug would be best.  I will get one once I move.
Any other suggestions or things I should know about apple products in Ireland.  I know there are no Apple stores there.
An adaptor doesn't burn out. It merely serves as a means to connect the power prongs on your device to the power supply.
I believe you are thinking of a transformer, which you do not need. A transformer converts one voltage to another.
You don't need to do that as the power supply of modern electronics can take almost any worldwide voltage.
Look at the label on the device. It should indicate the input power acceptable of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Additionally, I found the adapters cheaper in the UK than I found them in the US. They were available in most supermarket chains. I wasn't in Ireland, so I can't say one way or the other.
If you have something that doesn't have that input power spec, it would require a transformer.
On other items like electric clocks or things with motors, you can connect them up to a transformer and the voltage will be correct, but the frequency may not. For clocks, that will cause them to not keep time well. For motors, they will burn out.

  • I just bought a new Epson projector, connected it to my Mac with a USB cable but can't get anything to display.  Any suggestions?

I just bought a new Epson projector, connected it to my Mac with a USB port and can't get any display.  Any suggestions?

USB is not a Video Interface. to use it with this projector, you must have downloaded and be running:
    Macintosh
    USB Display v1.50
    Mac OS X (v10.7 - v10.7.x), Mac OS X (v10.6), Mac OS X (v10.5)
    epson14423.dmg - 2.9MB - posted on 10/24/11
This file contains the Epson USB Display v1.50. This software, along with a USB cable, allows you to display images from your computer to your projector.
    Installation instructions:
Double-clicking this file creates a disk image on your desktop.
    Open the disk image.
Double-click the installer icon to begin the installation.
    Download Now
I think it may be superior to get a VGA or HDMI adapter and use the display features built into your Macintosh.

  • Need a good (but budget-friendly) projector for a K-12 classroom. Any suggestions?

We are starting an iPad initiative with our teachers and want to have good projectors in as many classrooms as the budget allows. Do you have any suggestions? I imagine that we will also have to purchase Apple TVs as well as a Bluetooth projector probably runs more.
    Thanks!

Are you planning to mount the projectors on the ceiling or have them on a cart?
How much can you afford to spend on each one?
Are you planning to have the iPads wirelessly connect to the projectors?
Do the classrooms have computers in them already? If so, how old are the computers and are they PCs or Macs?
If you have computers already, you could hook up a projector to the computer and then purchase software that allows you to wirelessly connect the iPad to the computer and then display its screen, rather than purchasing Apple TVs for each room. You will need to work with your IT department to make sure the software (or the Apple TV) will work on the school's network.
Airserver and Reflector are two options for connecting the iPad to the computer and using the computer to project. Each offers a free trial that you could test to see if they suit your needs. Licensing for each of them is quite a bit less than the cost of even 1 Apple TV.
    Just some food for thought

  • I am using an iPad with Apple TV and airplay with a projector in my classroom.  The mirroring cuts out and back on several times during use. Any suggestions on what's causing it and how to fix it?

I am using My iPad with Apple TV, Airplay and projector in my classroom.  The projector screens blanks out and back on several times during a presentation. It seems like a problem with connection but I'm not sure as it comes back on after a few seconds. Any idea of what is causing this and how it can fixed?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • A suggestion for Communicator and other clients - "Projector" mode

This is a bit whimsical, but also a bit practical...
There should be a status of "Projecting Desktop" that can be set.
I believe, at least on Vista & 7, the OS can indicate if a projector is connected and being used. If so, the client can indicate that a projector is connected as part of the status.
The practical part being that others are notified if someone is projecting their desktop - a projector icon would be ideal, but at least a notification before sending an IM that the recipient is projecting their desktop:
(Yes, of course the right answer is - don't send IMs like this...)

  • I've used a Hitachi multimedia projector with my previous MacBook with Snow Leopard but I can't get it to project data from my new MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

My new MacBook Pro with 10.8.4 does not seem to work with my Hitachi multimedia projector which works find with my older MacBook running 10.6.8. Is there anything I can do to get the projector to recognize my Mac or is it the other way around? (It would be nice to just carry one machine instead of two. Besides it's not a good advertisement for the new MacBook Pro!

Are you using the same cable and input connector with both systems?
Are you using the same (or corresponding) settings on both systems?

  • Can't present through a Projector with lion - anyone have any suggestions or experienced the same issue?

Ever since i hae installed lion, we cannot project through a pretty new Epson projector.  I have downloaded all the latest drivers from Epson and that does not work but it seems it would just recognize the projector as another screen as it normally does and that Lion would not have an affect on that.
    Any thoughts or solutions?
    Thank you!

Yes, I had this same problem.
I downloaded version 2.77 of easymp display and 1.50 of usb display from the epson website.
It did not work at first but then I plugged and unplugged the usb cable and all of a sudden it worked fine. I have a 2009 13 inch macbook with an epson 825+ projector.

  • Suggestions for an iPad compatible projector

Looking for an iPad compatible projector

I have several X200s, with different types of screen, including a X200 with AFFS (but the glossy one) and two X200s with WXGA+ screens, though I never tried them in direct sunlight, I think the LED WXGA+ are slightly brigther, but the contrast and colours of the AFFS are much better; again, with the glossy model (the -110)
Before answering your questions it would be good to know which panel you have now? Some "s" models came with LED screens ex-factory. If you're sure you have a CCFL then an AFFS screen is plug and play. (
WXGA+ will give you more pixels, probably the best is trying to get a full assembly instead of the panel itself. You loose the webcam with such a screen (no way to put one under the bezel).
Generally speaking, if you have a CCFL panel and you want a LED one, you will need a different cable and LED subcard.
If you currently have a LED panel and want a WXGA LED, you keep your parts. If you want to go WXGA+ you need a different bezel.
I hope this helps and I didn't confuse you much :-D  (It's late now)
