ProjectPrefs2.xml keeps old clips

Hi.
I setup a DVD project, which I use as template for future projects. After DVD_1 is finished, I say "Save as ..." to DVD_2. I delete the DVD_1 clips, add DVD_2 clips and modify the menus. After DVD_2 project is finished, I say "Save as ..." DVD_3, and so on ... Arriving at DVD_5, I noticed that the file ProjectPrefs2.xml kept all clips from previous DVD projects. Besides that, the DVD_x.ncor files also grow in size.
Worse ... when opening DVD_5 project, DVD Encore started to rebuild the Cache, including all clips of previous projects.
How can I tell DVD Encore to disregard all previous clips contained before DVD_5?
(was this understandable?) ;)
Thanks,

Probably too late to help, but, I have found that when doing the same thing (using a Project as a "template"), I have to not just remove the Assets, but Revert to Original first, as the original Assets will have links to the Transcoded versions used, when the Project was initially burned. First noticed this, when opening up a Save_As version of the "template" and saw that a lot of conforming was being done to Assets, that had been removed. I have since begun "cleaning" my Projects, when using them as "templates," prior to the Save_As. This is an extra step, but dissolves the links to older Assets. Just deleting them does not dissolve these links if the files have been Transcoded.

  • Export an XML or EDL which will keep the clip's full name

    Greetings,
I've been working with R3d (RED EPIC format) footages in premiere cs6 and i need to export an XML or EDL which will keep the clip's full name, in order to use it for further post production (davinci).
    How do i do it?

i know that edl is an old format but i wonder if there is another format like avid's cmx 640.
I've already exported xml and it doesn't keep the clip's full name.
I'm more interested in exporting xml.
Is there a way to import the R3D so it keeps the clip's full name in the metadata?

  • Bottom line - no way for 08 to keep proper clip dates?

Right? I just need a definite "no" so I can download iMovie HD and install FinalCutExpress and start using these instead. Same clips in HD keep the recorded date...open project in 08, all clips have imported date. Absolutely insane. This has GOT to be a serious bug. Why on earth would Apple engineers think it's good wipe out all the date info? When would that ever be good?
So, does anyone know for certain there's no way to keep the clip date? I can not re-import off of tape. The tapes were imported in iMovie HD (06).

wow, what an incredible time waster that would be! If one project has 40-50 clips, I'm supposed to get info on each one, write down the date, open another probram or whatnot, manually change it, then go into 08?
Wow! What an incredible waste of time capturing/importing files into one application and then re-writing the files to a second application that creates a totally new file container with totally new data written by a totally different set of routines.
All kidding aside, I believe the original import/capture module reads the date-time group from the device media and uses it as the "file creation" date for the digital file written to your hard drive during capture. Unfortunately, the finder file writing routines are programmed to look at the current system time and use that as the "file creation date" any time you duplicate or copy a file. Thus, any attempt to import your files via the finder will run into this same problem. I see only two possibilities and I don't know if either will work.
    1) The first would be to create some sort of XML that would allow direct access of the original file in its original container from iMovie '08. I can't think of a method of doing this compatible with iMovie '08.
    2) The other would be to try a "pseudo" import. If you have the originally captured files still in the original project (i.e., they are not copies or duplications AND you have an active "iMovie Events" folder or can create one on the same volume of the same hard drive as the original iMovie '06 project package, then you might try the following:
    a) Close iMovie '08
    b) Create a named event folder within the "iMovie Events" folder on the same volume of the same drive as your original iMovie '06 project package
    c) With only your originally imported clips in the "bin" or the timeline (i.e., no "rendered" clips created), open the original iMovie '06 project package
    d) Open the "Media" folder
    e) "Drag 'n Drop" all files from the now open "Media" folder to the new named event folder you just created
    f) When done, open iMovie '08, sit back, and be prepared to wait
Hopefully, as iMovie '08 performs its initialization scan, it will locate your "pseudo" imported files and begin to generate thumbnails as though the the application had just captured/imported them from a camcorder. Be advised that this could take some time depending on the volume of data moved. Since the files were never actually copied but their pointers simply rearranged within the hard drive Volume Table of Contents, the file containers are not modified and still contain their original file creation Date/Time information which I hope includes whatever you want/need. If all goes well, the thumbnails will show up in your iMovie '08 "Events" window properly arranged in date-time sequence with the named event now showing under the proper calendar year in the Event Library List.

When I import a clip from my video camera, how do I keep that clip on my camera still?  I have the latest version of Imovie and everytime I import a clip off teh camera it removes it from teh camera.  In the previous version of Imovie I had the option of keeping that clip on the camera but I can't find that option now????

  • When you make a project frame size bigger shouldn't the old clips look smaller

Im relinking 4k files to my 1920 x 1080 project. When I changed the project to 4096 x 2304, shouldnt the 1920 x 1080 clips look smaller in the viewer. The relinked new clips look the same as the old clips. Even a 1920 x 1080 motion graphic looks normal over the new 4096 x 2304 clip. The inspector shows the frame size I made both the project and the clips, but It dosent make sence that the old clips look the same size as the new clips.  The first time I tried the relink to new file size I noticed the old files looked smaller, now I dont know what happened.

No. If the aspect ratio is correct, the media in the changed project will be scaled to fit the project. Select a clip (or clips) in the project and in the Video inspector open Spatial Conform. The default is set to Fit. If you want it back to normal size set it to None.

  • Installing SSD and keeping old HDD in the MacBook pro

    Greetings guys,
I would need a hint or two. I have late 2012 MacBook pro 13', and I want to install Samsung SSD into it to improve it's performance. Now, I am musician, and I am using software instruments a lot, and I have tons of those installed on my HDD. I know how to replace HDD with SDD, but I want to :
    1. Keep old HDD by geting rid of the DVD drive for storing the data
    2. Transfer the whole system to the SSD with the operating system (I'm runing 1.8.5 Mountain Lion), and all the installations with it.
Should I just back up my system, replace the HDD with SSD, put HDD into DVD drive slot and just use Time machine from the external HDD on fresh SSD and that's it? Or is there more to it, please advise! Thanks!

    That's fine.
However, what you can do is to clone the HDD onto the SSD without using a Time Machine backup, so you do not need an external drive. You have to do this after installing the SSD inside and putting the HDD in the DVD drive.
After putting the HDD in the DVD drive, turn on your Mac and it will start up in the HDD. Then, open Disk Utility and use it to format the SSD with a GUID partition table and "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as "Format" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
After that, Disk Utility provides you a Restore option to clone a drive onto a different one, so put your HDD as "Source" and the SSD as "Destination" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html
Choose the option you want. The option you mentioned and the one I described are valid

how I tell rsync only download new files and keep old files

    rsync manpage says the following:
-u, --update                skip files that are newer on the receiver
          --inplace               update destination files in-place
--append                append data onto shorter files
--append-verify         --append w/old data in file checksum
I guess you need to add -u flag.

  • How do I keep my clipping path from shifting positions when I crop an image? [was: Question]

How do I keep my clipping path from shifting postitions when I crop an image?

The work path will remain positioned relative to the same underlying pixels after a crop.  Are you trying to position it relative to one or more image edges after cropping?  I don't think you can do that without moving the workpath after the crop.

Does someone know when our movie project and finally our iDVD project is done, can we erase the clip that we had imported in iMovie without danger?  Or we have to keep the clip in iMovie until the DVD are burn?

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !

  • Importing Old Clips

Can anyone tell me how I can use clips that have already been uploaded onto my mac using older version of imovie?

Can anyone tell me how I can use clips that have already been uploaded onto my mac using older version of imovie?
There are many possible work flows here. I would normally open the older "project package/folder," Move or copy the "Media" folder to an "iMovie Events" folder, re-name the "Media" folder, and open the iMovie '09 application to allow it to recognize/thumbnail the new content. Be advised, however, that this approach will also bring in any transitions, titles, effects, etc. that may have been rendered in a previously active editing project. It would be up to your to re assemble the "rendered parts" if you wish to keep them, locate the raw footage, or empty the old project timeline to force the "Media" folder to only retain raw footage when copied/moved to iMovie '09. The options here are varied and all up to you.

  • Upgrading to Edge and keeping old phones...

I have 2 phones that are under contract and paid in full, 23 months of the 24  months right now. I'm interested in switching to EDGE, but I learned they want me to give them my phones that are far paid off. Currently, we've paid around 2200$ towards the 900$ in cell phones. I understand you pay more with subsidiaries blah blah. I wasn't asking for a waiver of the contract. I was asking to be  allowed to pay off my last month in the contract today and sign up for EDGE and be able to keep the old phones. I assumed there's no way they would say no, I'm willing to pay 170$ immediately and switch to a plan where I pay 50$ more a month...what company would ever say no to this??  Verizon would.
This whole switch was stemmed from getting stopped by a rep from at&t that was giving money to buy out people's contracts with Verizon and they offered a similar plan for new phones. The trouble is, their service isn't as good in the area I live and so I looked into what Verizon was offering currently. I was excited when I noticed the same offerings over here and disappointed when striking out online and in a local store front.  We were looking to switch to some water resistant phones before our family trip to the Pacific coastline.
Has anyone ever had any luck with customer support in a similar situation. Again, just looking to pay off my last month now and upgrade to new phones on EDGE without turning in my old phones.

Funny thing about that is people with less than 10 GB of data allowance are only paying $10/month of the line access fee towards "paying off their phone" while people with 10 GB or more of data allowance are paying $25/month of the line access fee towards "paying off their phone".
Verizon must like the people better who have a lower data allowance since a smaller portion of their line access fee is going towards "paying off their phone".
Unfortunately, some of the competitors have the same pricing schedule.

  • How can I import from a MiniDV tape and keep the clip order

A long time ago, I edited some MiniDV video together and recorded back out to a MiniDV tape using some older version of iMovie (ten years ago). I have latest version of iMovie (10.0.2) and have imported all of the edited video back into a new library. Unfortunately, the library is separating the video into separate clips and sorting them by the original timestamps of the original video (before editing). As a result, the clip are in a jumbled mess of an order.
Note that I am just importing the video from the MiniDV tapes so that I can export it as a Quicktime file. I really don't need the video to be split into clips at all. I would actually prefer to just import the entire video as one big clip.
Any idea how I can preserve the order of the

One thing that I have noticed is that Apples built-in camera is optimized for Face Time, so it sometimes captures at 30 frames per second, but if there is not a lot of motion in the frame, it might use 12 or 15 frames per second. So it has variable frame rates. This is great for FaceTime, but not so great if you are trying to keep the audio in sync.
The way to fix this is to use QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip to save the movie out with identical specs except to specify 30 frames per second (or 25 in a PAL country).
I wonder if you are running into a similar problem in QTPlayer. If it is making a variable frame rate movie, you could fix it by dragging the movie into MPEG Streamclip and exporting as the same kind of movie, but with a fixed 30 fps frame rate. MPEG Streamclip is free and quite useful for stuff like this.
    Just a thought.
Right now my QuickTime Player is hanging so I can't test to see if you could set the frame rate directly in QuickTime Player X.

  • Time Machine Question (want to keep old back up and start a new one)

    Hello
I have a MacBook Pro that I back up using Time Machine to a Segate External Harddrive.  I have several weeks worth of back ups stored using Time Machine.  Then I needed to have my system wiped clean due to overheating.  I just got it back and I have been working to restore my system (application by application.... folder by folder, file by file) from the most recent Time Machine.
However I didn't put it all back - I kind of picked and choose what I reinstalled.
I would like to set my MacBook Pro back up with Time Machine BUT I really really do not want to overwrite the old backups.  In my ideal world I want to start a whole new set of backups. However I can't figure out how to do that.
I tried changing the name of the folders in Time Machine and that didn't work. I tried copying them, that didn't work either.  It keeps telling me "The operation can’t be completed because it isn’t supported."
Is there any way to start a whole new time machine back up using the same external hard drive?  This way I still have my old Time Machine Back ups should I need them (from my computer before we wiped it clean).
    Thanks!

That's usually a recipe for disaster.  You're likely to miss all sorts of things that way.  Plus, if you have any "complex" apps (typically, the ones that come with their own installers and put other files on your system), they won't work properly, if at all, unless you also copy those files.  Or reinstall them from the original discs.
Your best bet is to do a full system restore, then delete what you don't want.
I would like to set my MacBook Pro back up with Time Machine BUT I really really do not want to overwrite the old backups.
Time Machine won't necessarily do that.  But it will make a new full backup of the "new" drive (since it was erased, it's treated as a different drive).  If there's not enough room for it, it will start deleting old backups trying to make room for the new one.
(That doesn't happen if you do a full system restore, or use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to put your data back.)
You can avoid that by manually telling Time Machine to "associate" the new drive with the old backups, per #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  TM will then do an "incremental" backup, of just what's new or different from the last backup.
If you don't do that, you won't see the backups of the "old" drive normally, but you can via the procedure in #E3 of the same link.
In my ideal world I want to start a whole new set of backups. However I can't figure out how to do that.
If there's enough room on the backup disk, you don't need to.
Is there any way to start a whole new time machine back up using the same external hard drive?  This way I still have my old Time Machine Back ups should I need them (from my computer before we wiped it clean).
Again, if there's room, you don't need to do that.  If there isn't, you can't, short of using a different disk.
But if there's room, and you want to keep the old backups indefinitely, you might be able to create a second partition, and start backing-up to it.  See #3 in Using Disk Utility.
