Projects in iPhoto

When creating projects from albums in iPhoto, is there a way to include the titles/ keywords associated with the photos? I know that one can choose various page layouts which allow text, but oftentimes, I simply want the pictures with the names of the individuals/ places on the page. Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are referring to books as the projects, right? Some book themes will include the title automatically. You can opt to have the title display in slideshows.
If you want a page of photos with the titles and keywords underneath each print do the following:
1 - select those photos and click on the Print button.
2 - set the paper size to letter -borderless and print to standard.
3 - click on Customize
4 - click on Themes and select contact sheet.
5 - click on Settings and select the items you want printed under each photo.
6 - click on Background and select the background color you want.
7 - move the Columns slider to change the number of columns on the page which will change the photo size.
8 - Click on the Print button.
9 - in the print window select PDF->Save PDF to iPhoto.
10 - when the jpg flie of the contact sheet gets saved to iPhoto you can add it to a full page layout.
HOWEVER you can only get a portrait oriented page this way so the photos on the page would be show like this substituting the contact sheet for the text . If you put two of them in a layout of 2 photo per page in some of the themes you'd get pretty close to what you want.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photobook / project disappeared - iphoto library on external drive

i use iphoto 11 on a macbook air os x 10.7.5 and have moved the iphoto library on an external hard drive. some older photobooks and projects (calendars) are clickable - i am asked if it is okay to renew them. others are just dead.
when i end iphoto and restart (my last click was on that project), then iphoto turns and turns and never starts. until i click on a openable project or event.
i went through all rebuilds offered by iphoto (library, access rights) except the thumbnail-renewal.
    any solution?
do i have to kill the old books? and do them again.
i would like to do some re-prints of them...

If, as Larry asked, the EHD is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Project deleted in iPhoto 11 ver. 9.1.1
After spending three months building a twenty six page Book Project in iPhoto i added a page and later decided to delete the page. I selected the page, pressed the delete key and confirmed the delete dialog box ( i didn't read, dummy) by pressing the delete button. The whole project was gone, the undo menu was grayed out and there was nothing in the iPhoto trash about my Book.
Surly I can find this if I knew the path to find the project in a library on a back column I have of my hard drive.. Could anyone help me?

Sorry I'm having a hard time getting this.
If I go to my hard drive BIGMAC>Library>Application Support>iPhoto>the only thing in this folder is Themes.
However, when I "Get Info" it's 580MB for 24,421 items. iPhoto says I have 35,977 photos. I would think the database would be into the GB for this many photos.
If I go to BIGMAC>system>Library>I find nothing about iPhoto
Is the iPhoto file in the Application Support the one I need to replace with my backup?
Thanks so much for your help.

If you have iPhoto '09, you cannot browse or restore seleted items from your backups.  See the pink box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
Mail should work, however, per the blue box there.

  • I have Iphoto library in Aperture.  Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging?

I have Iphoto library in Apeture.  Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging (within the apeture program)? Is this making a duplicate of all the photos? It seems to work??  It then leaves my Iphoto library in apeture empty.  I would like to do this just to reorganize the photos between the two.  I feel that I may have doubles and would like all pictures of one year in same project in Aperture instead of going between both.

Tell us more, please. I am not quite sure, what you want to do and how you are using Aperture and iPhoto?
Which versions of Aperture and iPhoto are you using?
Do you have separate photo libraries for Aperture and iPhoto, or are you opening your iPhoto libraries in Aperture?
I have Iphoto library in Apeture.
Did you import an iPhoto library into Aperture?  And now you are seeing a section "iPhoto Library"  in the Aperture projects list in the Inspector?
Events and albums you imported from iPhoto (Import > Library > Some iPhoto Library) will be imported as Aperture projects and albums, and they will behave exactly as other Aperture projects and albums.
Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging (within the aperture program)? Is this making a duplicate of all the photos? It seems to work??  It then leaves my Iphoto library in apeture empty.
You can drag images from any project in Aperture to other projects and that will move (not duplicate) the images and all its versions to that project. And when you drag all images from the project to another project, the remaining project will be empty and can be deleted.  (Caution: Photos that you have hidden in iPhoto will not be visible in Aperture. If you are not sure, if you have hidden photos, open the library again in iPhoto and unhide all photos).
I feel that I may have doubles and would like all pictures of one year in same project in Aperture instead of going between both.
There should be no problem with moving all photos from the same years to the same projects. You can also drag projects in "Projects" view on top of each other. That will merge them.
You could also define smart albums in Aperture to search for images taken at a specific period of time:
File > New > Smart album:
Then, in the Smart Settings HUD, click "Add Rule" and add a Date or Calendar rule.
For example, to find all images taken in 2010, use a rule "Date > Capture Year is > 2010"
To search for Photos taken at a specific date or at several dates, use a "calendar" rule. This way, you do nat have to type the date, but can pick it from a mini calendar.

  • Help - I mistakenly deleted a calendar project in iPhoto 11?

How do I restore a mistakenly deleted calendar project to iPhoto 11? I have a full SuperDuper backup that shows the project when I'm booted into the backup.
    Thanks for any tips!

Boot to the clone and follow Old Toad's directions for archiving a book (same for any keepsake) and copy the new archive library back to your main drive and use it - you can not "extract" a keepsake and more it - you must move
    the entire library
Or if there are no new photos in the clone library just move it back to the main system - if there are some you could export the new photos, move the cloned library back and import the new photos again from the export or the source if it is available

  • Projects in iphoto now thumbnails

I have lost my projects in iphoto and have found them in finder under all images press project cache then to layouts, thumbnails and when I click on thumbnail I cannot see the writing. Can anyone help. All my project pages are now thumbnail size and would like to copy these or at least view the font so I can re type by doing my project all over again.

    Hi,
Thank you for your time to reply.
How do I restore from back up ?
Before i lost all 8 projects which are photo books in iPhoto I didn't have a passport for mac so can I still restore them? which now I have purchased for future. For any future projects I now make having started one I go into time machine to look back and I see iPhoto but not my projects does this back up (passport device) save my projects.
I was trying to see the writing on each thumbnail, I can work out the photos as im making the projects I have lost again by looking at each thumbnail but cannot see the writing I even purchased a magnifying glass on apps but it didn't work.
I have been to the apple shop and the young lad said he thinks I have lost them so he advised me to purchase a back up called a passport but even having that I cannot see my latest project that I started to make. It's kept plugged in and updated but when I go back in time on it iPhoto shows not my latest project.

  • How to import iMovie 11 projects to iPhoto?

How do i import imovie 11 projects onto iphoto? please help!

iMovies are not designed to be viewed in iPhoto. You should watch your movies from iTunes. You can SHARE/To iTunes and your movies will be in iTunes. From iTunes, you can watch them on your Mac, on your Apple TV, or you can sync to iPhone, iPad, iPod. You will also be able to access them through the Media Browser in Keynote, Pages, GarageBand, Logic, and iDVD.
The only movies that should be stored in iPhoto are short, unedited clips taken by a still camera. iMovie can edit them without taking them out of iPhoto.

  • Upgraded to iphoto 11, unable to create projects in iphoto

Unable to create a calendar, nor any project, in iphoto. Upgraded to iphoto '11, still not able to create a calendar. The options and windows appear, howvever, when I click "OK" or "Create" nothing happens......
    Any ideas for us?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
    what version of iPhoto are you using, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5?
what system version are you running?
what happens when you try to create a calandar or project?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
As a first general fix attempt try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • How do I quick look up the date on a photo I have added to a photo project in iPhoto 11? If I hover long enough it sometimes appears.

There has to be a better and more efficient way to do this. This is quite frustrating. I separated all of my "chapters" for my book into different albums but then could only create the book from one of them. So, I took all the photos into an album and am now trying to separate chapters as I create them from scratch in my book project. That aside, it's been troublesome now as well as the past projects on how to quickly display the info (the date mainly) for the images included in the project menu on the right when I click "photos". I do get the info about 60-70% of the time by hovering for a quite lenghty period of time, but this is taking forever. Please.... quick solution! Thanks all!

Thanks Terence. I know about that in iPhoto already. I use it often. However, that is not an option when creating a book. When you click on the photos button in the bottom right corner when creating a book, it shows the photos but there is no "info" selection. The only way I find out the date is to drag the photo into the book, then go back and hover over the page number it was imported to and hope eventually the date shows up. If it's not the date for the chapter I wanted (as my chapters are divided by months), I then drag it back out and try again until I find a photo that does have that date. It's taken hours and is different from previous versions of iPhoto where I have created books before. This is iPhoto 11, trying to create a hard bound book.

  • Nikon Picture Project vs. iPhoto

Along with a new Nikon D40, I got the Nikon software, Picture Project...which I updated for the mac. Is either better? Pros & cons?

    Howard:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know anything about the Nikon software but it won't be integrated into the other iApps and have the book, slideshow, calendar and other features of iPhoto. It's probably a browser based application similar to Canon's Image Browser with some keyword capability and basic slideshows.
    Happy Holidays

I had ordered a photo book print two years back. I want to reorder the same book again now. However, I have lost the album project/photos from iphoto.

No.  Apple only keeps the pdf file for a book for 30 days.  Without the library and book project you won't be able to reorder the same book.

  • Can't add a book project in iPhoto 08

Hello, on a G5 Powermac, I have iPhoto '08 installed and OSX 10.5.8. When I add a calendar or card, it shows up in the 'Projects' section of the sidebar. When I try to add a book, I am asked to choose a size and style. I sellect 'Choose' and nothing happens.
I have tried the same on an empty library in a new user account, and the same happens.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Sheldon.
BTW, it used to work (might have been an older version of iphoto). and also, it works on my Mac Pro using iPhoto '08.

Thanks Larry. I had actually done that - to no avail. I should note again the same problem exists using iPhoto in a brand new user account and a brand new iPhoto library.
I ended up deleting the app, its preferences and themes using app zapper and moving to trash. I reinstalled from the install disc and pointed to the library. It works now.
    Thanks for your replies though.

  • IOS8 erased all my diaries/projects from IPhoto!

Why in heavens name has Apple erased IPhoto in IOS8?! I have many diaries and projects I have developed over the years, and then all of a sudden I can't access IPhoto. Try again apple! If I can't access my work, travel diaries and projects from my wedding and the likes, I have purchased my very last Apple product. Please tell me it was a mistake and it will be corrected and not an inconsiderate choice from Apple, that leaves us with no possibility of going back to IOS7 to restore our memories, photo albums and projects.
Sorry for being so tempered, but have just been on the phone with Apple support, and all they said was "sorry, there is nothing to do."
Someone please tell me they were wrong?!

Please tell me it was a mistake and it will be corrected and not an inconsiderate choice from Apple, that leaves us with no possibility of going back to IOS7 to restore our memories, photo albums and projects.
It was inconsiderate by Apple, but I see no silver lining of hope, that they will correct this in he her future.
Have a look at Apple's documentation at this link:        Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8
"iPhoto for iOS is not supported on devices with iOS 8 or later. This article will explain how to migrate your iPhoto data to Photos.
Photo Books, Web Journals, and Slideshows are converted into regular albums in Photos. Text and layouts are not preserved.
You would have to downgrade your device to iOS 7 again, to be able to run if again. But Apple made it impossible to downgrade by no longer signing the firmware installers. So you would have to setup a different device that not yet has been upgraded to iOS 8 and install iPhoto there.
