Hi All,
One of my friends has completed training in PL/SQL programming. He wants some hands on projects so that he can work on that and gain confidence. So that he can get into full fledge career in PL/SQL programming.
Can any one give me some insights are links , so as to help him begin with his career building steps in the same.
Some small project specs will also help in a long way .
If anyone is willing to share his/her some of project specs , then I could help him design , that .

  • SSMA for My SQL v6.0 not connecting to MS SQL 2008R2

    Is SSMA for My SQL v6.0 not supporting SQL 2008 R2.
    Is this version not backward compatible. As while connecting to 2008R2 SQL i am getting the below message.
    "You cannot connect to an older version (SQL Server 2008) of target SQL Server from a higher version SSMA project (Project type = SQL Server 2014). Try creating another SSMA project of project type
    which matches the version of target SQL Server you are connecting to OR connect to a target SQL Server equal to SQL Server 2014.
    And if issue is there then which version of software will let me do that?

    Hi Shubhra,
    As indicated in this
    download link , SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for MySQL supports SQL Server 2005 or higher version.
    According to the above error message, it seems that you create a SSMA project for SQL Server 2014. To implement the migration process from MySQL to SQL Server 2008 R2, please ensure that you choose “SQL Server 2008” type in the following screenshot when
    creating  SSMA project, then connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 and check if the error still occurs.
    There is also a blog about how to migrate from MySQL to SQL Server using SSMA for your reference.

  • Which Driver for MS SQL-Server 2000

    Hello,
    i need to access a MS SQL-Server 2000 and want to ask which driver you think is the best one for this problem.
    I am not a big fan of using beta-Software, and i do not need the newest state-of-the-art features. Right now i also do not need Connection-Pooling.
    Only a few SQL SELECT/UPDATE-Statements nothing more.
    But maybe in not far away future, Conn-Pooling and Procedure-Calls could be interesting. And i think Type 3 or 4 would be the best decision.
    The Software will run on NT, but i do not want to use the JDBC/ODBC-Bridge, because it is so unbelievable slow.
    I am interested in WHICH DRIVER you USE, AND especially which drivers you DO NOT USE ANYMORE, and why.
    It would be great, if anyone could help me, finding the best solution.
    P.S.: The price of the driver: It would be good, when it is for free. But if you know a good commercial driver i am also interested in.
    P.P.S: Yes, i have searched for drivers under http://servlet.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers. But there are 37 different Type 3/4 drivers.

    You can try the jtds project .Search for it in www.sourceforge.net. It is derived from FreeTDS JDBC driver. Both of them are Type 4 JDBC drivers. So far I have tried both of them a few years ago. And jtds is more updated (during those time, not sure what the status is right now)
    Or, you can get Microsofts own JDBC driver

  • Stored Procedures for Simple SQL statements

    Hi Guys,
    We are using Oracle 10g database and Web logic for frontend.
    The Product is previously developed in DotNet and SQL Server and now its going to develop into Java (Web Logic) and Oracle 10g database.
    Since the project is developed in SQL Server, there are lot many procedures written for simple sql queries. Now I would like to gather your suggestions / pointers on using procedures for simple select statements or Inserts from Java.
    I have gathered some list for using PL/SQL procedure for simple select queries like
    Cons
    If we use procedures for select statements there are lot many Ref Cursors opened for Simple select statements (Open cursors at huge rate)
    Simple select statements are much faster than executing them from Procedure
    Pros
    Code changes for modifying select query in PL/SQL much easier than in Java
    Your help in this regard is more valuable. Please post your points / thoughts here.
    Thanks & Regards

    On the client side, you have an interface that deals with this SQL cursor. It can be a Java class, a Delphi dataset, or a PL/SQL refcursor.
    Yes, cursors are created/opened at a huge rate by the SQL engine. But is is capable of doing that. What you need to do to facilitate that is send it SQLs that uses bind variables. This enables the SQL engine to simply re-use the existing cursor for that SQL.
    Simple select statements are much faster than executing them from ProcedureAlso not really correct. SQL performance is SQL performance. It has nothing to do with how you create the SQL on the client side and what client interface you use. The SQL engine does not care whether you use a PL/SQL ref cursor or a Java class as your client interface. That does not change the SQL engine's performance.
    Yes, this can change the performance on the client side. But that is entirely in the hands of the developer and how the developer selected to use the available client interfaces to interface with the SQL cursor in the SQL engine.
    Pros
    Code changes for modifying select query in PL/SQL much easier than in JavaThis is not a pro merely for ref cursors, but using PL/SQL as the abstraction layer for the data model implemented, and having it provide a "business function" interface to clients, instead of having the clients dealing with the complexities of the data model and SQL.
    I would seriously consider ref cursors in your environment. With PL/SQL servicing as the interface, there is a single place to tune SQL, and a single place to update SQL. It allows one to make data model changes without changing or even recompiling the client. It allows one to add new business logical and processing rules, again without having to touch the client.

  • Connection problem in Crystal Reports for Eclipse(SQL Server Express 2008)

    I tried to connect into a local SQL Server Express 2008 database in Crystal Reports for Eclipse (CR4E), but always  got the Ping failed message(TCP/IP connection failed) even I tests completed successfully using my Window XP Adminstrators Tools (SQL Server ODBC Data Source Test). I can connect successfully to a remote network Oracle database in CR4E. I would like to know
    that is there any one who connect SQL Server Express 2008 local database successfully in CR4E?

    Don,
    Thanks for your suggestions. I will follow your instruction to connect to SQL Server Express 2008 database latelly. I can connect successfully with different Oracle databases (10g) in CR4E. I will try to connect MySQL database and Postgres database in CR4E  to see if they can be  successful or not. My project involves international entities with emphsizing  in using OPEN SOURCE softwares (which means FREE - no license fees) in .NET platform for Oracle, SQL Server Express, MySQL and Postgres database servers. I am responsible for reports generation. I hope that CR4E can be connected successfully to SQL Server Express 2008 database server, otherwise I have to use JFreeReport/JFreeChart tools to do reports generation .

  • JDBC for Microsoft SQL Server 2000

    Hello,
    I have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to establish a connection with JDK 1.4.1 and run the following code:
    import java.sql.Connection.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class Connect
    private java.sql.Connection con = null;
    private final String url = "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://";
    private final String serverName= "localhost";
    private final String portNumber = "1433";
    private final String databaseName= "cbi";
    private final String userName = "sa";
    private final String password = "";
    // Informs the driver to use server a side-cursor,
    // which permits more than one active statement
    // on a connection.
    private final String selectMethod = "cursor";
    // Constructor
    public Connect(){}
    private String getConnectionUrl()
    return url+serverName+":"+portNumber+";databaseName="+databaseName+";selectMethod="+selectMethod+";";
    private java.sql.Connection getConnection()
    try
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    con = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(getConnectionUrl(),userName,password);
    if(con!=null)
    System.out.println("Connection Successful!");
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("Error Trace in getConnection() : " + e.getMessage());
    return con;
    Display the driver properties, database details
    public void displayDbProperties()
    java.sql.DatabaseMetaData dm = null;
    java.sql.ResultSet rs = null;
    try
    con= this.getConnection();
    if(con!=null)
    dm = con.getMetaData();
    System.out.println("Driver Information");
    System.out.println("\tDriver Name: "+ dm.getDriverName());
    System.out.println("\tDriver Version: "+ dm.getDriverVersion ());
    System.out.println("\nDatabase Information ");
    System.out.println("\tDatabase Name: "+ dm.getDatabaseProductName());
    System.out.println("\tDatabase Version: "+ dm.getDatabaseProductVersion());
    System.out.println("Avalilable Catalogs ");
    rs = dm.getCatalogs();
    while(rs.next())
    System.out.println("\tcatalog: "+ rs.getString(1));
    rs.close();
    rs = null;
    closeConnection();
    else
    System.out.println("Error: No active Connection");
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    dm=null;
    private void closeConnection()
    try
    if(con!=null)
    con.close();
    con=null;
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
    Connect myDbTest = new Connect();
    myDbTest.displayDbProperties();
    but, I received the error that ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver, No active Connection.
    I added the 3 .jar files msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar and msutil.jar to the System variables but it is not working. Is there any syntax for adding these .jar files to the System Variables?
    Please, help me and give me the solution for establishing the connection and loading the driver class. If I am doing anything wrong then please, tell me the right step.
    I am developing a project on Java and I have very little time left to accomplish it. Please help me.
    Thankyou.

    I had already given the .jar files to the User variables and System Variables but the driver class is still not loading. I had simply given the .jar file name for instance, msbase.jar;mssqlserver.jar;msutil.jar and also tried the path of .jar files i.e., C:\Microsoft SQL Server\-----------\lib\msbase.jar;C:\-------------lib\mssqlserver.jar;C:\----------------\lib\msutil.jar; but, both ways are not working. When I installed the MS SQL Server 2000 then in the lib folder, the 3 JAR files were not installed then, I downloaded a driver for MS SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC sp2, then, the JAR files were installed. Then, I copied those files to the lib folder of MS SQL Server and gave that path to the User and System Variables but it didn't work then I gave the original path of files where they are installed i.e., of the Driver's path which I downloaded from Microsoft but still now, my problem is not solved. Please help me.

  • Table API Extension for Oracle SQL Developer

    I just created small project [Table API Generator for Oracle|http://code.google.com/p/tapig/].
    Idea is to only maintain tables and generate table API (TAPI) packages for data manipulation.
    Generated:
    - insert, update, delete, querying procedures
    - documentation based on table columns comments
    Do you think it will be useful to have custom Table API Generator as extension for Oracle SQL Developer?

    Never used them myself and quite legacy, but I'm sure there's still a lot of people using them and the basic idea is quite nice.
    This would also qualify perfectly as a User Defined XML Extension for sqldev; little work but big results. Even if you were the only one using it, it would still pay off.
    Have fun,
    K.

  • Javadoc like tool for PL SQL

    Hi ,
    Is there any document generator tool for PL/SQL.
    Thanks in advance.

    Is anyone currently using NaturalDocs for PL/SQL documentation?
    http://www.naturaldocs.org/
    It seems to be about the only project out there that is still being maintained and expanded. The downside is that NaturalDocs does not currently read javadoc-type comments for PL/SQL code (looks like a long while before it will), rather you need use the NaturalDoc-style of comments.
    However the resulting documentation is quite nice looking (compared to pldoc):
    http://www.naturaldocs.org/documentation/html/files/NaturalDocs-.html
    Some larger projects such as OpenLayers use this:
    http://dev.openlayers.org/releases/OpenLayers-2.7/doc/apidocs/files/OpenLayers-js.html
    but nothing I could find anywhere actually showed PL/SQL code in the documentation.
    Thanks,
    Paul
