it is not that i haven't been warned. It is just that i simply do not understand why write performance on the newly created pool ist so horrible...
Hopefully, i'll get some mor advise here. Some basic figures:
The machine is a HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 with two Intel Xeon E5-2665 CPUs and 128GB Ram.
The storage-pool is made out of 14 900GB SAS 10k disks on two HP H221 SAS HBAs in two HP D2700 storage enclosures.

I just do not get this. Why is it that slow? Am i missing any tunable parameters? From the above figures the ddt should use 5354008*152=776MB in RAM. That should fit easily.
Sorry for the longish post, but i really need some help here, because the real data with much higher dedup ratio is still to be copied to that pool.
Compression is no real alternative, because most of the data will be compressed images and i don't expect to see great compression ratios.

Isn't the tunable parameter "arc_meta_limit" obsolete in Solaris 11?
Before Solaris 11 you could tune arc_meta_limit by setting something reasonable in /etc/system with "set zfs:zfs_arc_meta_limit=...." which - at boot - is copied into arc_c_max overriding the default setting.
On this Solaris 11.1 c_max is already maxed out to "kstat -p zfs:0:arcstats:c_max -> zfs:0:arcstats:c_max 136312127488" without any tunig. This is also reflected by the parameter "meta_limit = 0". Am i missing something here?
When looking at the output of "echo "::arc" | mdb -k" i see the values of "meta_used", "meta_max" and "meta_limit". I understand these as "memory used for metadata right now", "max memory used for metadata in the past" and "theoretical limit of memory used for metadata" with an value of "0" as "unlimited". Right?
What exactly is "arc_no_grow = 1" saying here?
Sorry for maybe asking some silly questions. This is all a bit frustrating ;)
When disabling dedup on the pool write performance is increasing almost instantly. I did not test it long enough to get real figures. I'll probably do this (eventually even with Solaris 10) tomorrow.
Would Oracle be willing to help me out under a support plan when running Solaris 11.1 on a machine which is certified for Solars 10 only?

ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2

Hello,
just unboxed a brand new HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 Server (8GB ram). I can reach the iLO webinterface but the Server hangs on the early windows 2012 system initialization on 90 % . I try with RAID1 and RAID 0, I tested the raid with the HP tools and there is no errors, sometime the windows server start fine, I check the event view and no errors found. I reinstalled the server 4 time in diferent ways with the same issue, I used the latest drivers for the raid. Any idea? (HP support phone is always busy)

К серверу HP ML310e ProLiant v2 Gen8 подключил аудио устройство USB - работает программа сигнализации объектов, встроенного аудио на материнке нет. Универсальное аудио устройство USB - из USB наушников, наушники отрезаны и перепаяно на настольные динамики.
Всякий раз после "Завершения работы" или "Перезагрузки" сервера значёк "Динамики" на панели задач перечёркнут красным крестиком и звук не работает, хотя в "Диспетчере устройств" в пункте "Звуковые и аудио... устройства" - "Аудио устройство USB" - "Состояние устройства" пишет что "Устройство работает нормально".
Чтобы звук заработал нада каждый раз заходить в "Диспетчер устройств" нажимать "Удалить устройство" потом "Обновить конфигурацию оборудования".
Но простому дежурному персоналу это сделать очень тяжело, они вызывают "компьютерщика" в 3 часа ночи...
Как решить эту проблему, кроме как купить PCI звуковую карту? а может и она так будет работать?

Iam trying to setup RAID 5 to HP proliant DL380P G8 for (three 300 GB HDD SAS) and i can't find
the RAID 5 option it only shows RAID 0,

I just came across this post now so im not sure if you got it solved ?
What type of controller are the disks connected to and in the HP ACU do you have this option only or are you trying to do it on startup ?
An issue I have seen before is that the Array controller does not have a battery back cach module and therefore its not allowing that RAID setting ?
What type of controller is it and do you have the OS installed ?

The server HP ML310e ProLiant v2 Gen8 connected audio device USB - works program alarm objects embedded audio on the motherboard is not. Universal Audio Device USB - from USB headphones, earphones cut and rewire on desktop speakers.
Whenever a "shutdown" or "reboot" server znachёk "Speakers" in the taskbar headlines with a red cross and the sound does not work, although the "Device Manager" in "Sound and audio devices ..." - "Audio Device USB" - "Device status" writes that "the device is working properly."
To the sound of nada earned each time to enter the "Device Manager" click "Remove Device" then "Scan for hardware changes".
But the simple duty personnel to do it very hard, they call "programmer" at 3am ...
How to solve this problem, but to buy a PCI sound card? and maybe she will work?

ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 + 32GB RAM Bios Fix

Hi all. I have bought a ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 and wondering why the spec the ram is limited to 16GB RAM.
The chipset and CPU support up to 32GB RAM. The MicroServer has 2 DIMM Slots and 16GB RAM modul exsist.
I asked the memory company Intelligent Memory and asked if 32GB udimm will supported.
The Support answered me that the 16GB Ram limit is a restriction set by HP in the Bios.
Could you please remove this limitation / restriction from BIOS?
Lot of Customers have this wish because they use for Homelab for Study (Exchange, Sharepoint etc) Only Exchange already consume 8GB Ram and Sharepoint is recomend 12 GB)

HP DL380p Gen8 processor kit elements

I'd like to add a second processor in a HP D380p Gen8 serveur. Somebody sent me a processor kit which contains only One fan. The user Guide explains that 2 fans are needed when adding a second processor. I'd like to know if the processor kit is sold with one fan or two fans. Can somebody help please.

HP ProLiant Microserver Gen8 RAID 1 configuration

Hi all, I'm not sure If I post this message in correct topic of this forum, if not, I'm sorry. I've an HP MicroServer Gen8 and I'm very happy with. But for security reasons I want to mirrored the two drives to RAID1.It's for me along time ago to configuring RAID and I forget things quickly. I use this server for private and office use. I have two hard drive froms 500GB (I bought a new second disk). I saw that the HP Dynamic Smart Array was not enabled in the first boot sequence when I start the server. So I go to BIOS for setup. I followed this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSQWJCbvpAA (from HP, the uploader is someone else btw) When I was in the BIOS I go to:1 System options2 SATA Controller Options3 And then Embbed SATA configution4 I get an warning message pop-up, when I want to enable and I press on enter (I followed exactly the tutorial on youtube)5 Enable Dynamic HP Smart Array B120i RAID Support -> I press on enter6 Then I go to Advanced Options and press on Advanced System ROM Options and I enable the Virtual Install Disk7 I go look back on System Options if I see now that the Dynamic HP Smart Array B120i RAID Support is enabled, but I didn't see it. Small info: I see under PCI Device enable/disable that the Dynamic HP Smart Array is enabled. But Why I cant see it under System Options? In the video is ROM - BASED Setup utility, Version 3.00Copyright 1982, 2012 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.And in this server is :ROM - BASED Setup utility, Version 3.00Copyright 1982, 2014 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 G1610T

Right now I`m trying to install windows server 2012 essentials .The Installation works on a single disk but whenever i configure a raid 1 I don`t see any storage device in the windows when I will be asked where to install the system a disk at all. Obviously the system has no driver installed for the above mentioned combination.How can I get a driver for the raid system ?As I bought the system via Ebay to replace another Server I dont have any disks etc.

Hp proliant dl380p shutdown automatically

I have 2 hp proliant dl380 g8 with windows server 2012 64bits.
Problem: my both server after 30 to 45 min its not going to sleep mode, but its shutdown automatically.
Kindly help me and guide me what kind of setting I have to change for this issue.

ProLiant DL360p Gen8 problem with java/oracle

we are using OPERA PMS in a new single server , windows server 2008 r2 x64. From the first day we are getting these 2 weird errors ( attached )
I have tried re-install network cards,changing cables,re-installing java,disabling antivirus,changing networkretries=30 on oracle etc
is it hardware or software problem u think?

Experiences using HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 as ESXi server

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a ESXi 6 server for lab purposes.
I've read that there might be some performance and compability issues using the Smart Array B120i raid controller, any experiences?
I'm plan to use 4x1TB sata-drives in RAID10(maby one hot-spare aswell), and running the ESXi-os on SD-card.
I plan to run about 5 virtual Windows-servers.
