Promise 376 RAID not working

I guess I too am a victim of the Live update BIOS flash Windows version
Please give any assistance/ ideas you have
Thank you in advance
KC
PS: sorry if this is long, it is my first post.
Here are the sequence of events and what I have tried so far: (I think these are all in the correct sequence of events, I have been trying everything I could think of and that I could find on the MSI and AMD Forums)
Computer was built 4/03, no problems til 1/15/04
·   WinXP home SP1 On IDE3 (C: RAID0 alone) on Promise controller, D: (2) Seagate SATA 150 on SER1&2 (RAID0) (see below for specs)
·   Memory is the same, PSU same, other hardware, same (see below for specs)
·   I have noticed that you almost always point to PSU first, but since I ran this board for 10 months, I can’t understand it. I did add the VGA card, but I also disconnected the ZIP and IDE2-disc2. Power supply V&A below. And it was working fine before I flashed the BIOS.
1.   1/14/04 installed MSI Geforce FX5200 (so I could have duel monitors and upgrade to LCD in the future. NO PROBLEMS til next day
2.   Flashed BIOS 1.8 with Windows Liveupdate3. upon reboot and after resetup BIOS values, Array only detects 1 SATA drive, other is “?/?” no IDE3  harddrive detected, no OS detected, tried deleting array and redefining. Would “define”, but then not there after reboot.
3.   moved IDE harddrive to IDE1. fasttrak.sys cause BSOD/ and “IRQ not less than or equal to” BSOD until I unconnected the SATA drives from the Promise controller. Then, System boots okay everything there & working. Deleted array and redefining. Would “define”, but then not there after reboot. NO JOY
4.   Reinstalled/ Repaired WinXP and re-updated.
5.   Reloaded Promise drivers from disk (v10019) NO JOY FOR PROMISE CONTROLLER
6.   Reflashed with 1.8 BIOS via Floppy, reloaded Current Promise Drivers (19) that came with the MB NO JOY
7.   Disconnected G-FX5200 and everything else except basics and RAID. No Joy
8.   Tried disabling everything I was not using and also cache’s in the BIOS, Still nothing.
9.   Flashed with Mod BIOS 1.8 (full RAID support) thought it might help the controller. Loaded Mod drivers (v10037)
a.   mod BIOS is very cool as it added some featues, but still NO JOY for the controller.
10.   Ran SEAtools  (Seagate utility) on drive, extensive test, no electrical or mechanical problems (SEA tools would see SATA discs when booting from floppy) NO JOY
11.   Upon boot-up WP wanted to run Scan disc on the RAID0 drives. It found a whole pile of bad or partial sections of files. I know (NOW) that I should not have let it run while the RAID was not working correctly.
12.   Took drives to reseller. They checked them out and said they were fine. But when I reinstalled them, Fastrak saw them as an array, but also had the IDE3 drive shown (which was still connected to IDE1)  (I had asked them to reformat them, but I  don’t think they did.) When I deleted and redefined, it hangs at the Fastrack BIOS/ flashing “_”
13.   Ran memtest86 on both memory sticks at the same time, 16 passes (10 hr overnight) NO errors.
14.   I then bought a Promise SATA150 TX2 + controller (the same as the mod BIOS has) and installed it.
15.   FINALLY I could see my drives. SATA 1 was listed as RAW 74.5G, SATA 2 was listed as 149G (the size of the Array that was on them) and had the folders there, but all the files ect.. Were in “found 000” files. No problem as everything is backed-up.
16.   Tried to reformat drives from XP. It did reformat Drive SATA1 (now D:), but would not let me reformat SATA2 drive. Still saw it as 149G and would not let me correct size back.
17.   Reformatted both SATA1& 2 (E:) from SEATools, as 80G (74.5G +/-) Reconnected on drive to the Promise on board controller, still sits at the Fastrack BIOS screen and flashes. I even tried letting it run for an hour (I had read it had taken someone that long to have it initialize) but still no go… Reinstalled the drives on the PCI controller, and of course they are there.
That is where I am at now. NO JOY L
NOW WHAT.

Try this disconnect all drives except the sata drives even zips etc.
The only drives that should be hooked up when setting up a raid is the raid drives as other drives including zip drives will mess things up I know it caused me to have to do reinstall of OS because I forgot this rule and had a zip hooked up. I couldn't even boot from my SATA because of the zip drive.
I emailed promise support and they said to unhook the zip drive and I didn't even tell them I had one.
The only drives you want hooked up or the CD, 3.5 Floppy and the SATA drives.
Now pop in your XP disk and boot from it doing the Ctrl F setup array and F6 thing install Fast track 375 drivers.
If you want the SATA to be your boot drive than go ahead and install your OS. Remember that your Bios must have SCSI in the boot order to work if you want them to be boot drives.
After OS is installed it will again need the fast track or sata drive disk again as the first time it is only installing the drivers to memory.
If the SATA drives or not to be used as a Boot disk you still must install the Fast Track 375 drivers but I don't know how that is done as I have never set a computer up that way.

  • K7D Master and Adaptec 2100S RAID not working

I have the K7D Master with 2 AMD 1900+ MP cpu's and 1 GB RAM. I can not get the Adaptec 2100S RAID SCSI card to work with this mainboard. I have taken out all of my PCI cards, and I have tried to place the 2100S in all of the PCI ports, but the card will not work. It seems that the bios of the K7D do not like the bios of the Adaptec card. The Adaptec works fine with the K7NPro motherboard, so it is nothing wrong with the card. I have just bought 2 x 15.000 rpm scsi disks, and I was really looking forward in having SCSI RAID with this excellent motherboard.
Does anybody have the same problem, or does anyone have a solution - it will be highly appreciated.

I am using anAdaptec 29160N with 3 scsi drives and this works like a charm. It is just the Adaptec 2100S which doesn't work, and the problem is related to the AGP port. I tried to remove my AGP card and installed a PCI video card - then suddenly the 2100S worked. It was assigned an IRQ and I could also get inside the bios/menu of the card.
I therefore decided to test different AGP cards - I tried Creative Banshee (3DFX chip), Creative GeForce 2 Ultra, Leadtek GeForce 3 Ti 500 and 3DFX Voodoo 3. The Adaptec card would not boot no matter what AGP card I tried. The machine hangs when the bios of the Adaptec is showing. I then tried 3 different PCI video cards (Geforce 2MX, ATI Rage3D and Matrox), and the 2100S worked with all of them.
So it seems that the Adaptec 2100S will not boot (hangs during bios message) as long as the AGP port is being used on the k7D - the question is: can MSI come up with a new bios that resolves this problem or do I have to live without my 2100S ?

  • Promise FastBuild Utility Not Working, or User Error? *UPDATE - 3/31*

Currently testing the following barebones system outside of the chassis:
MSI K9A2 Platinum - version 1 (currently using v1.4 BIOS)
    AMD 5000+ Black Edition CPU
    MSI Radeon 3870 GPU
    WD6400AAKS (Boot Drive)
    G.Skill DDR2 800 (1GB stick)
    Corsair VX550W PSU
    Logitech cordless Keyboard & Mouse
    22" Viewsonic Monitor
    Windows XP Professional 64-bit w/SP2
-- all at factory settings; nothing overclocked; all drivers installed & updated to current versions.
I am trying to get the BIOS to recognize a Maxtor 15K Atlas II SAS drive, which will
be used as my boot disk. From what I know, the drive needs to be set as a JBOD RAID
in order to be recognized by the system, but I cannot access the necessary functions
in the Promise FastBuild Utility in order to do this.
I started by testing a SATA boot drive to see if I could access the RAID functions.
FastBuild Utility presents you with four parameters, accessed by number keys 1 - 4:
    View Drive Assignments........................[ 1 ]
    Define LD..................................... ........[ 2 ]
    Delete LD..................................... ........[ 3 ]
    Controller Configuration........................[ 4 ]
Using the BIOS that shipped with the mainboard, I was unable to access any of the
parameters except for the fourth. Typing 1, 2, or 3 did not bring up a screen at all.
Typing 4 brought up a screen, but there were no options to select, just information.
So, I figured perhaps it was a bug with the early BIOS, and flashed it to v1.4.
The problem is the same. Typing 1, 2, or 3 does nothing, and typing 4 presents
me with a screen that has no selectable options.
Am I just missing something obvious here?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hold on!
You are going the wrong way.
Of course FastBuild can't do much, it's just 1 drive.
During install, you need to hit F6 and install the proper driver, then the driver should show and can be partitioned and formatted.
The FastBuild util doesn't do this, it can only create an array, nothing else, it can NOT format the drive(s) for Windows.
You need to put the right driver on a FLOPPY and load it with F6, no CDrom involved at this stage, only floppy.
So I should disconnect the sata boot drive, leave the unformatted SAS drive connected to the Promise
controller, and do a Windows install in order to F6 the Promise driver onto the hard drive, correct?
Also Bas -- in another thread you had linked the current Promise driver for SAS HDDs (for the K9A2 Platinum)
but by the time I saw the thread the link was gone from your post. Would you mind reposting that so I can
confirm I'm installing the correct one? (I believe I am, but after one gets frustrated trying for days on end
to get something to work, one can get a bit befuddled LOL )
    Thanks for your help.

  • A75MA-G55 raid not working

Hi, just got this board with an 3850 APU.
Runs fine, but whenever i change the SATA controller to RAID mode , the system will not boot.
I can create an array without problems , the RAID bios loads and recognises the array.
If i quickly press F11 after the RAID bios, i can get into the Boot Selection menu.
I can choose whatever device i want e.g. DVD or bootable USB sttick but it never loads.
The system keeps hanging @ the B6 post code in the bottom right corner.
Even without creating an array(just a single disk connected) the system still hangs.
So, looks like the AMD RAID bios doesn`t hook properly in the system bios.
In IDE and AHCI mode everything works fine..
    Now the fun part...
If i put in a Dell SAS 5 card and connect my 2 Samsung 2TB disks on that, then i can create an array and boot from it without problems..
Is my board defective or is this just a bios issue to be ironed out?

Yes, the Dell card was just for testing purposes..
Bios updates are not out yet, since the board is so new (only available for a few days)
However, i have found a workaround for the problem.
If you use sata ports 3 till 6 , then you can use the AMD RAID without any problems..
So it is a bios bug after all.
p.s. if you use raid on ports 1 and 2, the raid disks do show in the bios as normal disks and as a raid array.
So there are 2 biosses trying to manage the disks in that case.
Once you use ports 3 till 6 the raid disks do not show as normal disks anymore, just as a raid array.
Maybe it`s a good idea to mention that in the manual.(or fix it in a bios update...)
Another bios bug is that bootable usb sticks are not shown in the UEFI boot section.
(if you want to install a 64 bit os with > 3 TB disk this is necessary)
DVD drive does show properly in UEFI section.

  • Big Bang Xpower and Raid not working

    Here's my build:
    Corsair HX850w
    BigBang Xpower
    i7 930
    Tuniq Tower Extreme
    6gb Gskill 1600
4 WD 36gb raptor in striped array
1 WD caviar black 1tb drive
    1 seagate 750gb drive
    1 samsung combo drive
    1 lite-on combo drive
    EVGA Superclocked+ gtx470
Sound card that was included with mobo
All drives are SATA with the 1tb and 750gb drives on SATA6 ports SATA 7 & 8, (4) raptor drives on SATA 1,2,3,4 and 2 CD/DVD drives on SATA 5&6.
Now here's my problem. If I enable RAID in the bios under on-chip ata devices I can use CTRL+I to setup raid array. Upon reboot it won't boot from CD. Pressing DEL won't enter bios and I have to press clear cmos button on back and start over.
So with that said. If I DON'T create the array it will boot from Win7 DVD and I can install to 3 of the WD drives. Win7 doesn't show all 4.
I'm going nuts here. Please help.
    Thank You,

Certainly do hope MSI Tech has an answer for both of you soon. The industry has made some terminology changes recently concerning SATA to reduce any confusion. SATA2 or SATA II has been changed to SATA 3.0, & SATA3 or SATA III has been changed to SATA 6.0. Also, it is my understanding setting AHCI in the bios must be done prior to installing Windows.

  • K8T Master2 FAR not working with Powercolor x1950?

    Hello,
I already talked to the german MSI Support about this issue but they couldn't really help me. They first told me to install BIOS 1.4
and after that I had all that issues like only one processor in Windows, S-ATA RAID not working, Fan Control not working etc. and it also didn't help me in that issue, that BIOS costed me two whole days, but fortunately I found this forum and I'm back now on 1.3B5.
    Here is my problem:
I upgraded from an Sapphire x800 PRO to a Powercoler x1950, but the system crashes and freezes when starting 3D apps whatever driver I use. I found this to be a very common problem and the solution I found on the internet is turning agp speed to 4x, turn agp read off, turn agp write on and turn agp fast write to off in the smartgard options in the CCC. CCC asks me to restart after that, when I say I will restart later I can play CoD4 and run 3Dmark06 with nice framerates ... but when I restart the computer I end up with no graphics driver. 640x480@4bit and the CCC pop ups that the current driver isn't supported. I tried this on a plain windows xp 32 pro install (only chipset drivers directly downloaded from VIA). When I do the same things (e.g. change the same settings in the CCC) with the x800 the graphics driver will not disappear after a restart.
Do you think I still got any chance to get the x1950 running in my system? ... and no, I will not install the latest bios
    Best greetings from Germany,
    S1lv3R

By device manager, select the display adapter and click "update" then manually specify driver location.{extract VGA drivers installation to some folder 1st}.
If you have 2x1950 listed, do that for each one.
Else do a new fresh OS installation.
    P.S: Latest DX here ==> http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/c/8/5c8b7216-bbc2-4215-8aa5-9dfef9cdb3df/directx_aug2008_redist.exe
He only says that the driver I specified will not be installed as it is not more suitable as the one already installed. That's the point I don't understand. I guess the driver isn't really gone but just deactivated somehow but I'll do the reinstall now.
I'm irritated about what Wonkanoby said. Chipset driver before or after catalyst?
*edit* I tried now with installing the 8.7 first then doing the settings and reboot. After the reboot I got 640x480 again manually updated the driver to the 8.8 and he installed the driver but after a reboot the SMARTGARD started automatically again and the settings were gone .... so again the same situation with fast write turned on.

  • K8N Neo2 + NVRAID + Promise Raid Controller = not working right

I'm trying to get my Promise Raid card working with nvraid enabled and I've finally given up. It works fine with NVRAID disabled though. I have 2xSata on Raid 0 and 2xIDE on raid 0+1. i also have two other IDE's on non-raid and two atapi cdrom drives. In order for me to use all of my storage devices, i need the promise controller to boot. The Prommise RAID controller's BIOS will not boot with nvraid enabled. WindowsXP detects the drives, but if i try to mount them via PAM (Promise Arry Management), it says one of the drives is corrupt/not working. but if i have both the ide raid hd's on the nvraid w/ sata raid, then it works fine. I just won't be able to use my cdrom drives. if anyone has a fix for this, please let me know. and sorry for the long descriptions. thanks.

Why don't you go into BIOS and alter the IRQ manually for that PCI card, because probably that card is using the same IRQ as the nVidia one.
    Be well....

  • K9A2 Platinum not loading raid drivers sb600 or promise for raid 0

I am tired of trying by myself, hopefully you guys can help me out Ive been fighting this thing for 2days now and i hate this computer I'm on that feels like 28k dial up.
i know theres the promise plugs and the sb600, and i know they have different drivers. i also know that you have to disable the sb600 raid to get the promise working and vise versa *read the manual for that*. i set up the raid in raid configure *<alt-f>* and set it to raid 0 and assign the raid, and its fully functional.
the problem is when it comes to boot windows i hit f6 and then use the drivers i got off the cd...or website *two floppy's* and pick the i86 raid configuration *windows xp not 64, 64bit one is corrupted on both disks as well* it gets through that part, i format the drive *it sees in in raid in fast configure and in windows format, not in bios* and then go to install. it begins to install and stops on the first file FTT.inf, it apparently cannot read it, which is the same file on the disk if i am not mistaken. i have tried to install about 100times,if not more with different configurations in the bios.
the settings i have now for raid set up in the bios are:
    integrated peripherals
    extra raid controller enabled
in I/O devices on chip sata controller disabled *tried both enabled and disabled same problem*
it does not show drives in the sata ports but i figured that since it only shows 1-4 and the internal promise are the 5/6 ports.
i have formated and re-installed the drivers on the disks multiple times ive also tried the sb600 drivers disabling the extra raid controller in bios setting raid *it finds it in the 1/2 slots then 1 as raid* configured it in the raid set up as well but the same problem arises except its not FTT.inf its ahcix86.inf that errors. skipping the files *which is obvious  but i tried it just to see what would happen * causes blue screen on reboot and another error of the same type at 99% but .sys file this time.
i have installed windows on one drive and booted up using the same drivers was able to configure everything was slightly inclined to just say screw it 1 drive it is. but it was a shame since i bought them both to raid 0 em from the start. loaded windows up and even installed drivers.
i also heard that u need to do full format sometimes to get the raid to work if you have tried both raid drivers so i did slow fat format... no avail did it twice. and fast the rest. if you guys know of any boot-able type formating program that i could throw on a floppy disk that would be great too, if thats the case.
i am at a wall and frustrated as all hell with what Ive done so far hope u guys can help me out, tried to be as detailed as possible but i bet i missed something .

did all those settings. and have the newest and the disk version of the drivers.
do u guys really think that it not being able to find the driver file a power issue? either way i ll do anything at this point i rewired some stuff where the video card has its own rail and the hard drives have theirs with the cd-rom drive. took out my fan controler and really power hungry after market video card fan replaced with an old 60mm fan.
Error once again... ??? DAMN FTT3.inf file
edited: cause i sounded like an angry a$$hole with that first line :P
Stop swearing here! It's NOT allowed.
As for the floppy, goto the command prompt of a Windows machine, then type "format a:" and let the floppy format, if your floppy shows any error throw it away and try another.
    It's not uncommon floppies fail.

  • RAID Utility does not work after Vista upgrade

    Hi,
I have a Qosmio G30 with 2 HD 120GB each. After I upgraded to Windows Vista from Windows XP, the Toshiba RAID Utility does not work anymore. In WXp it worked OK, but in Vista there is no way I can mirror the HD. That is, the utility itself work, but the button that should say Mirror, or something like that is not shown. I have set the drives to RAID-1 in the BIOS, but no go.
Is there any way to get the software RAID to work again?

    Hi,
just a little question: While installing vista, did you installed the RAID-driver at installation time? Maybe this could be the reason why RAID cannot be activated properly.
Please give some feedback, if you installed the RAID drivers for Vista during the installation..
    Cheers

  • PROMISE ULTRA 133 TX2 (PCI to ATA) driver installation does not work

I tried to install the WIN32 (XP) driver that works with XP PRO 32 - it doesn't work with W7 64 Bit. I also tried the Vista driver - same problem. The driver folder contains the inf file, the cab file and the sys file. However, the "force-install" (right click - install) doesn't work - error message: 'The inf file you selected does not support this method of installation'
What exacly does that mean? Does this mean that W7 uses a different concept of driver installation than the current versions of windows OS - or does it mean that there are syntax errors in the inf file, or does it mean information is missing? (or a combination of those) Is there an indepth (comprehensive) spec for the inf file format used with W7?

    Torsten

    Hello Torsten,
First you might keep windows update regularly to obtain the latest driver for your device. Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.
Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!
For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
What can I do if my hardware does not work?
This will give you some guidelines.
    Good Luck!

  • Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller not working out of the box

    Dear all,
I'm using, for my tests, an old server with a supermicro X7DBN Server motherboard.
This motherboard comes with an embedded Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller.
When I try a native installation from the technical preview DVD it sees the RAID1 volume that has been created (2 disk mirror) but when I select it to proceed with the installation there is an unknown error stating that it's impossible to write to this disk.
The same installation works perfectly with 2012R2 and the out of the box driver provided bin the install media.
An update from the previously installed 2012R2 to the Windows Server Technical Preview also works without problem.
It would make sens for MS to revert to the driver version embedded in 2012R2 for Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller which is:
    Name : Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller
    Date : 10.08.2010
    Version : 8.6.2.1025
    inf section : iaStor_Inst_RAID
    Device ID : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104

    Hi,
Thank you for the information. As you said from the behavior it seems that the build-in drivers of Windows Server Technical Preview will not work with the specific motherboard hence the RAID1 cannot work well.
    I'll log the issue down.

This is likely do to new Phishing or Popup rules in IE9. Most web based controller management utility's do not show up as a valid website since they use local host or internal IP addresses. I know Areca has in the past used Java for their utility which also trips many of those rules. Try adding the web utility as a trusted website.

Thank you very much for the responses.  The url: http://www.edgedocks.com/content/2014/10/edge-commons-update-animate-20141 resolved the problem.  It was a simple fix.

  • KT4 Ultra (6590) need update of the Promise SATA RAID Controller PDC20376

The last Bios update AMI 1.4 for the KT4 Ultra (6590) have built in the bios version 1.00.0.18 for the PDC20376 (Promise 376).
    I can configure 2 maxtor (6E040T0) sata1 in a raid0 array and it works under WinXP SP3,
but the 2 drives are working in UDMA5 according to the FastBuild Utility when the motherboard specifications talks about 150Mb (SATA1).
It's not an OS problem because the FastBuild Utility at Bios startup show the UDMA5 mode for HDD.
It's not a Maxtor 6E040T0 (SATA1) problem because have no jumper to set.
The Promise support center don't provide support for built in raid controller but the responce was that it's related to a known bios issue of the controller, so i have to update.
For the last Bios version for the S150 TX4 controller look at:
    http://promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&category=all&os=100&go=GO
It's impossible to update the bios with the promise tool because the controller is integrated in the motherboard.
I read for example than on the motherboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR the bios version of the Promise 376 controller is 1.00.0.21:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=92756.msg665966#msg665966
I think the only solution is a modding bios, where i have to replace only the Promise controller bios but:
    1) The tool amibcp.exe can't open the A6590VMS.140 AMI bios (renamed .rom), i don't know why!!!
    2) What promise controller bios rom file is good?
Can anyone out there help . . . please ?

This is my results compared to my other UDMA6 HDD on IDE1, HDTach long bench stop with "Read Error" and only quick bench works.
The version of the Controller driver under WinXP-SP3 is 1.0.1.29 and I configured the driver in the PAM Utility with:
"Driver Write Cache" enabled and "Write Back" as cache settings (The 2 Maxtor SATA1 in RAID have 2MB of cache, but i don't know How many cache have the controller!!).
The Burst Speed is too strange!!! quick bench error?
