Promise Not seeing external sata HD help!

okay i just got a fancy new sata external drive. Hooked it up to the promise sata and enabled it in the bios (Sata, not raid) and reboot, and then i does its checking think, and it take like two minutes, then this message comes up
BIOS is not installed, then boots my raid on the other VIA sata controller.
what am i doing wrong? P.S. USB 2.0 works great with the drive.
thanks.

"Not having the device you are using, I am wondering why you have USB and a PCI card. Any USB devices I have (smartcards, PDAs, etc) all show in My computer as drives. Is your disk shown in Device Manager, you may have to use Hardware Wizard, to install new devi"
nono, i have all of this connect to onboard usb and sata stuff.
My external drive has SATA and USB2. When i connect with the USB2 it works great. When i connect the SATA on boot, the Promise controll take about 30 or 40 seconds to finially tell me "BIOS not installed"
then when windows boots (the screen that says windows home and has the gay progress bar) it frezes when it fades in for about 30-40 seconds, and then finally after i log in to winidows and everthing is loaded up, it freezes again for about 30-40 seconds, and after all of this it still doesnot recognize my drive.
if i have my drive is turned off all of the 30-40 second freezes stop.
Promise controller is said to functioning properly by windows device manager.

  • MBA mid-2012 does not see external display on wakeup

My mid-2012 MBA does not see external displays on wakeup. VERY annoying
I have a BenQ 24" HD display connected by HDMI and it is not seen by the Air on wakeup. I have to open the laptop, pull the mini-DV plug out 3 or 4 times before the display is recognised - some of the time. Most of the time requires a reboot with multiple cable/plug inserts.
What an absolute POS this mid-2012 MBA is! Apple finally fixed the garbage colours on external displays in 10.8.4 but the issue of recognisisng external displays remains. Its a crock. Totally regret buyiing this POS.
Have reset PRAM, SMS, cleared prefs etc etc ad nauseum. No solution with any of them. After almost a year of this garbage, the laptop is close to being thrown out as e-waste.

  • Capture mode does not see external camera

When I use the capture in iMovie, it only allows you to choose the built in iSight camera, and the external web cam is long listed as a choice. The external works fine in other programs (like skype).
Is iMovie intentionally crippled to only work with iSight in capture mode? Or am I doing something wrong?
    THanks

    Thanks for your help...
It is a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 using drivers from mac.
It does show up in USB section under apple system profiler.
It is connected through a powered hub (I have tried it directly connected with no difference).
It is recognized fine in other programs, such as Skype (you can change from isight to external web cam).
I downloaded and installed iGlasses 2, but that did not solve the problem. Curiously, if memory serves me correctly, photobooth only works with isight internal, but after iGlasses 2 install, it works (only) with external (when external is available).
Any other ideas on why iMovie does not see the external web cam?

  • I have recently bought a Seagate Goflex satellite mobile wireless hard drive. I have converted some of my AVI movies to mp4 and transferred them to the hard drive, but when I play them through my iPad 2 I can hear the sound but not see the movie. Help???

I have recently bought a Seagate Goflex satellite mobile wireless hardrive , i have converted some of my AVI movies to MP4 and loaded them onto the hard drive, when I try and play them through my I pad2 I can hear the sound of the movie but not see the film, somebody please help, what am I doing wrong as I have spent a lot of time converting these movies to be able to travel with my iPad and watch them. Thank you

Unfortunately, the drive is pretty much restricted without hacking it. That is, you can't stream its content via standardized protocols like UPnP, SMB, FTP and the like. This makes you won't be able to access its content from any third-party apps otherwise capable of playing back AVI files from UPnP / SMB / FTP / WebDAV etc. sources.
While this is certainly not a recommendation (I can in no way be held responsible if anything goes wrong): you may want to consider extending the capabilities of the drive by installing the hack: http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/welcome/
It'll "open" the drive for third-party, AVI-capable multimedia apps like GoodPlayer, It's Playing etc. to directly play the files over the network.

  • Bridge CS4 Does Not See External Drive

Very suddenly, Bridge is not seeing the external USB connected driver I use to store recent photos. I read a similar message here and the writer was told to add the drive to favorites. That appeared to work for him, but I could not do that since the folder doesn't appear under Computer in the favorites section either. The drive appears in Windows Explorer. I am using Vista 32. Any suggestions?
    Fran

Did you power up or connect the external drive after Bridge had been started? I've observed that Bridge only includes drives that were attached and active when Bridge was launched; it does not add a drive to its folders list if that drive is started after Bridge is active. With your external drive on (and appearing in explorer) try exiting and relauching Bridge.

  • Best External Sata Setup - HELP

Okay... I know there's already a lot of discussion around external SATA setups... My head is spinning. Just looking for some basic recommendations for people who have done this.
I'm looking for a case that will hold up to 4 drives... I will probably only use 2 at first, but want the ability to scale. What is the best sata case and controller card? Are some Cases/Controllers better than others?

  • Maverick does not see External Harddrive

I had a Seagate external usb3 harddrive connected.  I was working on a video file when suddenly I got a message in the upper right hand corner saying that the external harddrive was incorrectly disconnected or dismounted.  OK.  So, I unplug and then plug the ext. HD back into the usb3 port.  To make the story short, the hd light comes on, I can hear the disk spinning.  But it does not appear in the Finder or desktop.   The only sign on the Mac is by going to the "About This Mac" and to the System Report which lists hardware and software.  Clicking on the USB line, it shows the external HD plugged into one of the usb 3 ports.  The disk info indicates its ID and other data and how much energy it is consuming (it appears it is only using 96 mA from an available 500 mA).  So, it appears that the Mac sees it and can read it and has power enough to run it.
I then removed the first ext. HD and inserted another Seagate external usb3 harddrive - the Mac doesn't see it either except in the System report.  The external HDs  do not show up in the Disk Utility app.  The only conclusion is that the harddrives are probably OK but the Mac won't mount them anymore.  Most people with unmountable ext. HDs usually see them in the disk utility (greyed out).
    Any ideas.

Update - I have three Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external harddrives.  The two that I have connected to my Macbook Pro no longer can be read.  I took the two and connected to another MacBook Pro but it would not read the drivers either.  I took my third drive which I have not connected to my Macbook Pro for several weeks and connected to the other Macbook Pro and it reads it fine.
I downloaded drivers from Seagate but it didn't help.  I started my computer in safe mode, HD didn't work.  I have another drive containing a duplicate of my internal HD (using Superduper) and booted with the backup drive.  It would not open the two drives.   I'm taking the HD to a friend who has a G5 using an early Mac OS, 6.0.  These two drives contain my video files and I need to retrieve the files.
Conclusion:  The Maverick on my computer has corrupted the first two Seagate drives.

  • System preferences -Sound does not see external USB speakers

The computer internal speakers are working OK but the problems come when I try to use external USB speakers. The previous volume problem of the imnternal speakers resolved itself.
I have now purchased a new USB set of speakers (BOSE Companion 20) but now they will only work through the "headphone" slot at the rear of my Imac and then only thru one speaker.(right)
I have reset the PRAM - anyway I followed all the instructions and it was not solved.
In "Sounds" in system preferences the Imac cannot see the USB speakers - it only recognises the internal speakers for output.
I think until "sounds" recognises the USB Speakers I will not get both speakers working.
I insert the USB speaker wiring pin in the Headphones slot at the back of the Imac and as mentioned sound only comes thru the right USB speaker  -nothing works when I put the pin in the speakers slot alongside the Headphones slot.
    Any help apprecaited

  • FCP 3.04 Not Finding External Device? Help

I am trying to connect my Canon GL1 to a Powerbook G3 400 with 2 firewire ports running FCP 3.04.
FCP keeps telling me that there is no device found?
I tried changing to different settings but nothing works.
The weirdest thing is that iMovie see and controls and captures just fine.
I am working on big project. Normaly iMovie would be fine, but we have 20 some DV tapes to capture and I want the ability to catogorize and label these files.
    Please help.
    SOS
    Cheers
    Thinguy

You may be suffering from the dread 'Canon firewire confusion'.
Not all Canon cameras have connection issues, but hanging around this site I've come to recognize their ability to connect in FCP is the most problematic of all the camera brands. If you have a Canon camcorder, and can not get it to connect up with FCP, the following is a way to sort through the issues and get it to work. Some are elegant - some are ugly.
    Before we go any farther
-you should be using 'Firewire Basic' as the control protocol. If you aren't, go change it and try again.
-Also, verify that you have a solid installation of Quicktime. You may want to reinstall it using the 'delete receipts' method. Do a quick search here on the site - it is mentioned daily if not hourly.
With some confidence that the software installation and camera settings are correct ... the most direct solution is to purchase another, non-Canon device to use as your capturing machine. The Sony DSR-11 is highly recommended for DV work. A deck will save wear and tear on the camera's lightweight drive mechanism and will allow you to permanently connect a NTSC/PAL monitor for proper viewing. If you are working with HDV, you may have other issues ...
Beyond that, the path you take depends on the model of computer you own.
    1. If you have a G5 tower or a MacPro, capture to a second internal drive with only the camera attached. If you need to move material to firewire drive, disconnect the camera. A second internal drive is quite inexpensive these days if you do not already have one.
    2. If you have a G5 tower (PCI) MacPro (PCI), G4 powerbook (PCMCIA) or MacBookPro (Expresscard 43) with an available slot, purchase the appropriate firewire card for the slot. Connect your camera to the card and you should be good to go. The new card creates a unique bus and will avoid collisions with the external drives.
    3. If you do not have a slot or a second internal drive and you are stuck with the camera, welcome to the camera/drive shuffle.
    - shut down and remove the external hard drive(s) from the system
    - connect the camera directly to the firewire port of the computer
    - start the camera then the computer
    - capture to your internal (system) hard drive
    - shut down the camera and computer
    - disconnect the camera and reconnect the external hard drive(s)
    - start hard drive(s) and computer
    - move captured files to external hard drive(s)
    - edit
If you output back to tape or wish to view your work on an external Video (NTSC or PAL) monitor, you need to set up the camera to use the firewire out as the A/DV converter or VTR - which means reversing the steps:
    - copy the file back to the internal drive
    - shut everything down
    - disconnect the external drive(s)
    - connect the camera to the firewire port (and the TV to the camera if needed)
    - start the camera then the computer
    - play the file.
One caveat here - You may have difficulty getting the file back to tape without dropping frames. Playing files off of the system drive is very demanding and they may have a hard time keeping up.
All in all, if you do not have the option for second bus (i.e. iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, MacBooks) you may want to think about a computer with expandable options next time.
There is the option of capturing using iMovie, but that brings on it's own set of problems and is not recommended.
    Good luck.

  • My time capsule does not see external hard drive

I just got a new time capsule and am hoping to use it as a wireless bridge and NAS.
I've got it set up as a bridge and that seems to be working correctly, but when I plug my external hard drive into the time capsule, I can't see that external drive show up anywhere.
Has anybody else run into this issue?
The hard drive is a WD Elements 3 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - WDBAAU0030HBK-NESN.

I can't see that external drive show up anywhere.
If the drive is formatted correctly and communicating with the Time Capsule, then it will be displayed when you open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule icon, click Edit, and then click the Disks tab at the top of the next window. Example:
Remember that since this drive is a "network" drive, it will not be displayed on the desktop until you manually mount the drive.

  • Server App not seeing external LDAP users & groups

I have a clean 10.8.2 + Server install set up with our standard external LDAP directory (Novell's eDirectory in our case) configuration that is known to support Lion & Mountain Lion client LDAP authentication. With this same configuration on OS X 10.8.2 Server both Directory Utility and WGM can see all the LDAP users and groups as expected.
When I look for the external users & groups in the LDAP domain under the Server App "Accounts" heading I cannot see any entries in either users or groups lists. Should I be able to or is this a Server App quirk?
I can add individual LDAP users to a local group and enable access to individual services. How can I give access to services to all LDAP users without having to build & maintain a massive "All LDAP Users" local group?
Is there a published list of required LDAP attributes for users & groups for Mountain Lion Server? I suspect there are new requirements over and above those for 10.6 server but I have failed to find a good reference. I've noticed I get different behaviours for LDAP templates that includes a mapping for GeneratedUID to one which does not for example.
This is all so much more opaque than our superbly reliable Snow Leopard servers!
    TIA

    Ok, and again:
You want to see Users and Groups , which are stored in an third Party directory service like OpenLDAP, in your Server.app? This is what you have to do:
Connect the third party ldap to your server
Have all your external LDAP entries made so you can see them in the Workgroup Manager and are able to Login with them
When you see your LDAP-entry in the Directory Manager, change it from "From Server" to "RFC2307"
Edit the entry, add the following mapping to it:GeneratedUUID maps to apple-generateduuid
To your group and user entries in the external LDAP add the follwing attribute:apple-generateduuid gets the value taken from the output of "uuidgen"
    Feel lucky
And there ist ist; now you are able to use The accounts taken from an external LDAP.

  • Toshiba Store.E TV+ 1TB does not see external WD My Book 3TB drive

    Hi guys,
my Toshiba media player doesn't want to pickup my new portable HD drive.
I have a few drives, NTFS and FAT32, all work (from 1 to 2TB in sizes).
My newest drive is a WD My Book (3TB), and it doesn't want to pick it up.
Can it be that the firmware doesn't see the 3TB at all (meaning, supports it) ???

As I understand your issue, you have connected the WD My Book 3TB drive to the USB 2.0 port of the STOR.E TV+
    Right?
The USB port supports plug n play so it should not be an firmware problem.
I guess the external drive requires too much power. The common USB 2.0 port provides 500mA power.
This is standard and if an external drive would require more power, the drive would not be recognized.
