Prompt for filename - not happening

I am running Windows 7 & AA8. Every time I print to PDF the file is automatically saved to "My Documents" with the default file name. On my previous machine (Windows XP) I was prompted for the filename and save location. I cannot find the setting to make this possilbe again. When I open the printing preferences in windows - the setting " Adobe PDF Folder;" is blank or "LPT1" and I cannot change this. I click the "Browse" button but nothing happens....

It sounds like the Adobe PDF printer is not being recognized. As for Win7 and AA8, I have only heard of one report that it works in the 64-bit version and there were no details. My guess is that you are running the 64-bit version. You might be successful if you selected 32-bit compatibility or whatever it is for the AcroTray.exe file. If that file is not active, then it would be reasonable that the port would be something different. If you check the printer port in the properties, is there an Adobe PDF port. The normal setting is Port: Documents\*.pdf with the Adobe PDF printer.
If you can not set the port to Documents\*.pdf, you might just try setting the port to File. Then you should at least be able to print to file and then open the file in Distiller to get the PDF. An extra step, but should do the job.

  • Turn Off Distiller Prompting for Filename on MAC like you already can on windows.

    I've posted about this before, but with no useful reaction. There is a documented feature in the Windows Distiller, that would be just as useful on mac, but doesn't exist there. In the Adobe documentation, it's called "Turn Off Prompting for Filename".
    In short, I'd like a way to stop the MAC distiller from showing dialogs that are not needed when controlling it externally, when the options 'ask for pdf file destination' and 'view pdf when using distiller' are turned on by the user, like this is already possible in windows.
    Below is a copy of my original post, with more details.
    Distiller brings up dialog while running from applescript
    Arnt Witteveen - 06:08am Dec 19, 2005 Pacific
    Hi,
    I've read DistillerAPIReference.pdf (and DistillerParameters.pdf) from the developer documentation, and I have not found a way to do what I need: 'override' the distiller setting to ask for the destination filename and to open the pdf in acrobat when it's done. On windows, this does not seem to be a problem, it's documented under "Distiller API for Windows", in the paragraph "How to Turn Off Prompting for Filename". Even better, when sending the command line "/V /O outfile.pdf /J joboptionsfile inputfile" using DM_CMDLINE and WM_COPYDATA, it doesn't seem to bring up the dialog or open it, which is just what I need (even though I see no reason why it doesn't).
    On Mac however, there is no such thing (in fact, the documentation for controlling distiller in this way on mac is very short: 5 mostly empty pages, explaning only that you can start and stop it and pass it a file to distill).
    So, how do I stop the mac distiller from showing dialogs that are not needed when controlling it externally, when the options 'ask for pdf file destination' and 'view pdf when using distiller' are turned on by the user?

    sorry, but the 2880x1800 is hardware; in fact what makes non-optimized sites look (relativly) ugly is that to upscale the graphics to the apparent resolution of everything else each pixel is represented by 4 pixels, and as you know being in graphics, upscaling pictures is generally results in ugly.
    Back to my point, there's no software to make the display lose 75% of its pixels; you'll either have to use another machine and/or wait for sites to optomize their graphics for the retina displays...which may or may never happen depending on the sites awareness/closeness with Apple's technology

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - How to disable prompt for filename?

    I have a Windows XP Pro SP3 system with Office 2003 Pro and Visio 2002 Pro installed.
    I have an Access database that creates Visio 2002 files within the application. Within the Access database, i have the ability to print a single or multiple visio files at once.
    I have followed all the supposed steps to set Adobe PDF printer to dump directly to a folder.
    I have set Adobe PDF as my default printer.
    I have gone to Printers and modified "Adobe PDF" Preferences and changed "Prompt for Filename" and selected a folder that i created. As well as unchecking the show results in Adobe option. I've also made sure that this matches under Printer Defaults. I've even tried creating a folder first, and then adding an "Adobe PDF" port to see if that would work with no luck.
    What am I missing?
    I have tried configuring Adobe Distiller as well as the conversion options in the Adobe Toolbar in Visio with no luck.
    this wouldnt be a problem if i were just creating a handful of PDFS, but this database creates 50-100 daily so it would save myself alot of time to be able for Acrobat to name the file the same as the visio VSD file but as a PDF.
    Any help/tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

    If you are printing to a folder, the folder should contain PS files for each file and the option for filename is probably overwritten by the OS requiring you to specify the filename. With the Adobe PDF printer, you do not print to file, but to the default that is the Adobe PDF port. This port should automatically start Distiller to complete the conversion process - that is where the filename issue is used. The print process should be a one step process, not multiple steps.
    Try printing any file to the Adobe PDF printer and be sure the PDF creation process works, then start playing your other games. Right now it appears you do not have the PDF creation process working.

    Hi,
    Please reconfirm the Autoenrollment group policy is configured and applied to the user or machine. Verify the Group Policy settings set the proper registry settings. If Group
    Policy is configured correctly, the next step is to troubleshoot enrollment.
    Autoenrollment requires the use of Version 2 or Version 3 Certificate Templates. Certificate Authorities must be on the appropriate OS Version and edition. The table below

  • Prompt for Filename Upon Printing as PDF Not Working

    I have an intermittent problem when printing Word documents as PDFs.  I am using Windows 7 Professional, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, and Word 2010.  This problem started occuring only very recently; previously I was able to print Word documents as PDFs without issue.  The current problem is that about half of the time that I attempt to print as Adobe PDF, I do not receive a prompt for the filename and location of my PDF document.  Instead, a tooltip bubble pops up in on my system tray with the Adobe symbol, telling me something to the effect of "your PDF has been created as k3r5pt.tmp."  The other half of the time I receive the normal prompt to save my file.  It does not appear to be specific to certain documents, as after this problem occurs I try again with the same document (after changing nothing) and it prints normally.
    I have checked my preferences by going to Devices and Printers->Adobe PDF->Printing Preferences->Adobe PDF Settings and choosing "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename" in the Adobe PDF Output Folder drop-down menu.  This has always been the setting and it still is.  I am not certain where these .tmp files are being sent to or why they are being created at all.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated so that I can print my PDFs successfully every time.

    Unfortunately updating the Distiller settings did not help.  PDFs are still printing to .tmp files periodically.  It isn't just from Word either; I've also noticed that it happens with PDFs as well.  For example, when viewing a 50+ page PDF document online I chose to print one of the pages from the middle as an Adobe PDF, and it notified me that my .tmp file was created.
    By the way, I haven't been changing printer properties from within an application; I change them from the Devices and Printers menu.
    I've been able to locate where the .tmp files are being sent:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp
    This is frustrating.  It seems to be happening despite all settings to the contrary. I just can't figure it out.  I'm reluctant to delete the printer and try to re-add it, because I don't have administrator priveleges on this computer (it's my work computer).  I wish I could give you guys more information.

  • Acrobat 7 Creating PDF, doesn't prompt for filename

    Hi!
    I'm having a strange issue with Acrobat 7. I just installed it on a new computer, and when I print a file as PDF, it doesn't prompt me for a filename. I've check the option and it is set to ask for a filename.
    How can I solve it?
    Thanks
    Christ

    Well, I just found something very strange.
    When we use our application to send a files to print in Adobe PDF, it doesn't work (doesn't ask for filename, but it save the file).
    If I do it from notepad, it does work fine...
    If I do it from an old computer that has Acrobat 6, it does works... I'm the only one who has Acrobat 7 (Since there was no more license, and that we still had a license for version 7).
    I tried it on another computer (fresh install), it does the same thing..
    I have no idea right now :S

  • Javascript to save as template file in predetermined directory with prompt for filename.

    I've seen a bunch of examples of how to save a regular illustrator file, but I can't seem to find the syntax for saving a file as a .ait file? Am i just missing something incredibly obvious here?? I know this is not right at all.. but this is what i was able to piece together from others' questions.. But i don't see where or how it calls out what kind of file it's saving..?
    anyone care to explain the logic in the newName variable? i copied that directly from another post (and edited the file name at the end). What does "/ARTE\..{2,4}$/i" even mean?
    I'd also like to suppress dialogs while saving as well.
    thanks all.
    var sourceName = app.activeDocument.name;
    var dest = ('/Volumes/customization/library/cads/');
    function saveAsTemplate(destination){
        if(app.documents.length > 0){
            var docRef = app.activeDocument;
            var cadNumber = prompt("What's the number of this CAD?");
            var newName = (sourceName.replace (/ARTE\..{2,4}$/i,'FD-SLOW-SS-' + cadNumber +'.ait');
            var AIT = new File(destination);
            docRef.saveAs(AIT);
    } //end function
    saveAsTemplate(dest);

    Hi williamadowling,
    IMHO it is not possible to save a file as *.ait with scripting (but I don't know).
    williamadowling schrieb:

    This is a part of one of my older threads with the member Ferrarezzi.
    This part of the script in this thread:
    var substituir_sourceName = sourceName.replace (/ARTE\..{2,4}$/i,'DIGITAL.ai');
    means:
    find ARTE and a dot and two or three or four characters before the end of the filename – and replace with DIGITAL.ai
    e.g.:
    The variable for the name of aSample_ARTE.pdf will be changed to aSample_DIGITAL.ai

  • Sharepoint server synch for Tracker not happening since upgrade to Acrobat 9 Pro

    Hi,
    I have a user that is unable to share his comments and see updates in Tracker using Acrobat 9 Pro.  There is a warning on Server status that says "some workflows are in error."  It seems that synchronization is with the server is failing, though his connection to the network is otherwise solid.  User can go to the server and go to the folder and open the PDF folder without any issues, but synchronization with server within Acrobat 9 Pro Tracker is failing.  He can join reviews, but is unable to see other reivewers comments and can not see any of the other 8 reviewers listed, he can only see himself and the initiator.
    I did verify that the initator and all reviewers are also using Acrobat 9 Pro.  Only this one reviewer is having issues, everyone else is ok.
    The issue started to happen after user was upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro. We did try a repair in add\remove programs, but this did not help.  I am wondering if there is anything on the backend, somewhere that needs to be changed.  User did go into a few other Shared Reviews on the Sharepoint server and was able to see 5 reviewers.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Is there some sort of unique identifier that needs to be changed?
    2. Can the initiator delete this one reviewer and then add him back, and would that possibly solve the issue?
    Thanks,
    Julie

    Hi Damir,

  • Prompt for Levels not working in Photoshop CC

    Hi,
    I was helped on here a few months ago about a script that would promopt the user to create a levels adjustment layer, set the levels and then the script would be able to call the information again and apply the levels without user intervention.
    Since upgrading to Photoshop CC it has stopped working correctly and I can't figure out why as it doesn't come up with any errors. It works on the prompt, alows the user to enter levels ect but when it comes to apply it to the next image it will just create an unaltered levels adjustment and move on. The script is below, any help would be much appreciated!

  • Report does not prompt for parameters when SeparatePages=False

    Hi all. We are using CR2008 Basic w/SP1 along with VS2008. Within our application, reports pull up fine and prompt for parameters using the CrystalReportViewer against the web service. SeparatePages is set to True. We want to change SeparatePages to False, but when I do that any report that should prompt for parameters is not.
    The reports were created in CR 8.5. We have upgraded them to CR2008 (open, refresh, save) which has greatly increased performance. With some further testing, I've discovered that if I take a report that doesn't currently have any parameters and add one via VS2008 report designer, it WILL prompt for the parameter when I run it in our application with SeparatePages=False.
    So I'm leaning that the problem has to do with the reports originally being created in 8.5. I've tried modifying an existing report with parameters, deleting parameters and re-adding, but I still can't get these to prompt for parameters with SeparatePages=False.
    Again, these same reports prompt for parms and work fine as long as SeparatePages=True.  I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this. There are over 400 reports so re-creating them from scratch under CR2008 will be a painful option
    If I need to provide any additional information just let me know. Thank you!
    Sheila

    We are still working to resolve this issue. Testing has shown that for reports that don't return a lot of data, the prompt for parameters will display. But for larger reports, we just see the hour glass and the parameter prompt never displays. It's almost like the reports are trying to return the full dataset without any paramters being passed BEFORE it will prompt for parameters. This would explain why smaller reports will prompt and larger reports never will (?). Not sure that is what is happening.  Again, with SeparatePages=True we are immediately given the parameter prompt. With SeparatePages=False we run into the issue of no prompts.
    Here's the code behind if it help:
    ReportDocument report = new ReportDocument();
    try
        String rptFileName = @"App_Data\Reports\" + Request.QueryString.GetValues(0).GetValue(0).ToString();
        log.writeLog("Loading Report: " + rptFileName);
        String rptFile = Server.MapPath(rptFileName);
        report.Load(rptFile);
        report.Refresh();

        log.writeDebugLog("Password : " + rProperties.ODBCPassword);

            TableLogOnInfo crTableLogOnInfo = new TableLogOnInfo();
            crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo;
            table.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo);
    catch (Exception err)
        log.writeLog("Error Loading Report: " + err.ToString());
        this.lblError.Text = err.ToString();
        this.ErrorTable.Visible = true;
        this.ReportTable.Visible = false;
        return;
    CrystalReportViewer1.HasCrystalLogo = false;
    CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = report; // _serverFileReport;

    When I updated apps on my ipad2 and iphone4S I used to get prompted for my password within a certain time.  So I could update a couple and then 10 minutes later if I wanted to download or update something else I would need to put in my password again. Since I upgraded to iOS6, I don't believe I am prompted for my password the same amount of times. I updated an app this am after not using iPad through the night and it just updated, no password required. This has me concerned now because sometimes I bump buttons by accident and now I will be charged for these accidents. What has happened to Apple's brilliant security?

    They've changed it in iOS and updates (and updates ONLY) do not require a password since it is really unnecessary as they have it on record that you were the one who bought the app. Why is more security needed, you aren't going to be charged for anything?

  • Acrobat Suddenly Ignores Prompt for Destination and Filename

    I've searched the forums and haven't found a solution although noted many occurrences of related problem. I'm running Acrobat 7 in Windows XP in a LAN environment.
    Up until yesterday, I have not had any problem with being prompted for a new pdf destination or filename as selected in my Distiller preferences. Now Acrobat creates the pdf and files it without the prompt. This is very disruptive to my workflow.
    Distiller preferences selected: Ask for PDF file destination, View PDF when using Distiller. (This isn't occurring)
    Adobe PDF Printing Preferences: Adobe PDF Output Folder = Prompt for Adobe PDF filename, Ask to Replace existing PDF file (This isn't occurring)
    Default port was My Documents/*pdf BUT I created a new port configured to a folder that I selected. New pdfs are now saved there but without prompting for destination or filename.
    Our I.T. staff isn't well-versed in Acrobat or Adobe softwares. If anyone has a solution, I would really appreciate one!

    Simply go to the START menu and select the printers. Right click on the Adobe PDF printer and select the properties. On the general tab, select printing preferences. Then select the Adobe PDF settings tab. On that tab menu you will have check boxes for those desired preferences.
    If you are using PDF Maker, there is a possibility that you will have to check the preferences in that menu in WORD or other application. PDF Maker uses the preferences in the printer properties and then adds others. The settings there may override the printer settings if you change them.

  • Can Saveas prompt for location, but still use a system generated filename

    I have a client that's wanting to save a pdf file of a datawindow.
    But, they want the program to prompt them for the location to save the file.
    It looks like you can do a saveas and leave the filename blank.
    and, it will prompt the user for the path/filename
    is there a way, that I can prompt them.... but, put the filename that was generated by
    the program, on the filename line
    I thought I had done something like this, for import of a file
    but, I don't think I've done a saveas
    does this make sense?
    basically.... I want the user to be able to chose the path
    but, not necessarily the filename... maybe just put, the generated one
    can this be done on the screen, that's prompted for... in the saveas routine?
    i guess I could have them specify both... if I had to

    Ask for the destination path with GetFolder() and then add the file name to the value returned by
    GetFolder()

  • I use Safari as my browser. When on a site and I click on a PDF file I get a black screen and a notice that "Adobe Reader blocked for this website". However, this does not happen if I use Firefox.

    I use Safari as my browser. When on a site and I click on a PDF file I get a black screen and a notice that "Adobe Reader blocked for this website". However, this does not happen if I use Firefox.

    Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
    There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
    If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
    and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
    Do as in Step 3 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.
