Prompted for serial number when launching Acrobat Pro XI

Keep being asked for a Serial Number Upgrade when trying to open trial version of Acrobat Pro XI.
Had previously purchased and installed full version, but found out the Pro 9 serial number I had been using was not eligible for upgrade, so I uninstalled full version and installed trial version.
How can I prevent it from prompting for Upgrade Serial Number? Probably something left over in Registry from that Pro XI purchase.
Sure would be nice if it had prompted for the upgrade serial number BEFORE I purchased, uploaded and installed the upgrade, rather than finding out afterwards it wasn't eligible. Plus, it uninstalled my Pro 9 in the process, so now I'm left with nothing.

Excellent suggestion; should have thought of that.
However, after running Cleaner to remove Pro XI, rebooting, reinstalling Pro XI Trial and rebooting, it still prompts me from same Serial Number Upgrade dialog box as when I purchased Pro XI.
It didn’t recognize my Pro 9 serial number in the original purchase/install because turned out Pro 9 was a Beta version. But that box keeps coming up when trying to use Pro XI Trial.

  • Keep getting prompt for serial number on Trial Acrobat XI Pro

The other day I purchased the upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro for US $199. After downloading and installing, the activation failed because my Acrobat Pro 9 serial number turned out to be Beta, and therefore not eligible for the upgrade.
So I uninstalled XI Pro, ran Adobe Uninstaller Tool, rebooted, then downloaded/installed Acrobat XI Pro Trial. But when I try to run Trial version, it keeps prompting me with the same Serial Number Upgrade dialog box that I got with the upgrade that didn't accept my Pro 9 serial number because it was Beta.
How do I prevent XI Pro Trial from prompting for Upgrade Serial Number so I can use Trial before buying? I have never been able to run the Trial version, and am getting desperate because I need to try that before I purchase.
              Thanks in advance!!         ~Carol

The prompt I receive is "left over" from the XI Pro UPGRADE version. There's a dropdown box where you choose the version you're upgrading from (Win Pro 9), then add the serial number, which is either approved or declined - in my case, declined because my Pro 9 was a Beta version (which I didn't know).
It's that Upgrade version dialog that keeps popping up when I try to get into the Trial version, forcing me to choose from the same list of versions as I did when trying to get into the Upgrade version.
If that dialog box left over from the Upgrade installation pops up with the Trial install, how do I know it won't also pop up if/when I purchase the Full version? I really want to get this all cleared up and working correctly (i.e., actually using the Trial version) before risking more trouble by introducing another element. No amount of Windows uninstalling plus Adobe Uninstaller Tool for all Acrobat products (plus, of course, rebooting) has overcome this.
And, just to be clear: I've never been able to "activate" the Trial version of Pro XI, so it's not like it's looking at this as a second install of Trial.
Meanwhile, I've again uninstalled all versions of Acrobat and reinstalled my Pro 9 to continue working on a project. But I know if I reinstall XI Pro Trial, that same dialog box from the Upgrade (forcing me to choose a version + serial number I'm upgrading from) will pop up, as I've been through that before.
The whole thing could have been avoided if only Adobe had forced me to enter the serial number for my Pro 9 BEFORE paying for, downloading and installing the XI Pro Upgrade.
Thanks for bearing with me on this. The one bright spot is that my refund for the Upgrade is being processed.          ~Carol

  • Invalid Serial Number when installing Acrobat 9 on new PC

Invalid Serial Number when installing Acrobat 9 on new PC

I wonder if this is related to the previous version issue with Acrobat 8 that displayed the same or similar error?
Here is the text from a very old document for Acrobat 8 KB if you want to try it but I don't know if it will work
Error: "You have entered an invalid serial number..." when you try to launch Acrobat 8 Standard on a Dell computer
    Issue
When you try to launch Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard on a Dell computer, the program returns the error message, "You have entered an invalid serial number. Please re-install Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and enter a valid serial number when asked."
    Solution
Check the alm_config_files folder for a duplicate AdobeConfig.xml file.
    Navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\alm_config_files
The following two files should appear in this folder:
    AdobeConfig.xml
    AdobeConfig.xml.aiwbf
    Delete the AdobeConfig.xml file.
Rename the AdobeConfig.xml.aiwbf to AdobeConfig.xml by deleting the "aiwbf" suffix.
    Launch Acrobat 8 Standard.
    Additional Information
On some Dell computers, a duplicate AdobeConfig.xml file is created when Acrobat 8 Standard is installed. The AdobeConfig.xml file without the "aiwbf" suffix is written for a volume-license version. The correct AdobeConfig.xml file is given the suffix. When a retail version of Acrobat tries to read the volume-license AdobeConfig.xml file, Acrobat returns the error.

  • "Internal error occurred" when launching Acrobat Pro X (AAMEE 3.1.150.0)

AAMEE 3.1.105.0 generated packages run fine when pushed to Macs that do not have an existing previous version of CS.
However, if pushed to a Mac that has CS4 installed, CS6 installs but Acrobat Pro X will not launch ("Internal error occurred").
We are using the latest Adobe CS6 Design & Web Premium installer DMGs from licensing.adobe.com and we are following the standard workflow.
I know Adobe's position is "We don't recommend or support concurrent installs of Creative Suite" (I get that).
Since OS X lacks package management (ala Yum, RPM, etc.), the term "Uninstall" is vague, but we appreciate Adobe's "cleaner tool".
Unfortunately the "cleaner tool" is only marginally effective, it leaves a mess behind.
And...when "cleaner tool" is used to remove CS4, it whacks CS6.
Wait...it gets worse...when "cleaner tool" is used, we now can't push our CS6 package to the Mac...we get...<drumroll>..."Internal error occurred" when launching Acrobat Pro X.
Someone shoot me...please put me out of my misery.
Why can't deploying CS6 be as simple as...

    Don

OK, we resolved the issue. Apparently there was a ~/Library/ColorSync folder present, not owned by the logged in user, and the logged in user had no access. Given OS X's domain model, it looks like Acrobat Pro X looks at that folder when it launches, even though it doesn't need to, and it can't get into it, so it tosses up the error.
Removing the folder (since it's not needed) resolves the issue. If the folder was needed, we would change ownership and permissions so Acrobat Pro X could access it.
    Problem solved.
    Thanks,
    Don

  • Payment made for lightroom and photoshop joint package, still prompted for serial number

payment made for lightroom and photoshop joint package, still prompted for serial number which I have not been given. what do i do next?

    Hi ,
I think you have downloaded the program directly from adobe. As you have the Photography plan, then you have to download this from Creative Cloud Desktop then they will be activated through with your email address. Then it will not ask for serial number.

  • All Final Cut Studio 2 products keep prompting for Serial Number

Does anyone know how to fix this?
    1) Bought Final Cut Studio 2
    2) Installed it with the provided Serial Number
    3) Registered
    4) Opened each product - was prompted to enter name and serial number
    5) Tried reopening stuff like DVD Studio Pro 4, Final Cut Pro etc.. and am re-prompted with the same blanks to enter name and serial number... this happens even when I restart the computer.
    What gives?

OK, I just spoke with Apple Care and got it fixed...
I like when things work this well.
Here is my simple translation of what he told me
    A) Make sure you have closed all applications.
    1) go to this folder:
    /Library/Application Support/ProApps/
    2) Find any file that has "_SystemID" in the name
    i.e. FinalCut_ProSystemID, DVDStudio_Pro_SystemID
etc... These are left over from your previous versions.
DELETE THESE FILES - yes all of them.
    Empty the trash too
    3) Restart Final Cut Pro and enter your Serial Number
This is nice because now ALL of Studio 2.0 is serialized!
    4) Enjoy Final Cut Studio.

Troubleshooting serial number issues with professional products
If you're having difficulty entering a serial number when activating your professional software product, keep these tips in mind:
    * Make sure you are reading from the original serial number label that came with the product.
    * Be sure to enter your first and last name, and verify there are no mistakes in the serial number field.
    * Some numbers and letters look similar, so make sure you don't mistake a zero for the letter O and the number 1 for the letter i or lowercase L.
    * Enter the dashes in the serial number.
    * Make sure there are no spaces before or after the serial number.
    * Make sure that the serial number is valid for the product you're trying to serialize, for example:
o Soundtrack serial numbers are not valid for serializing Soundtrack Pro
o Upgrade serial numbers cannot be used with Academic or Not for Resale numbers from a previous version
    * If you've already serialized your application and downloading an update causes it to stop working, try removing your System ID file and enter your serial number again. The System ID file for your product is located in
    /Library/Application Support/ProApps/
Remove the appropriate file for your product, then launch the application and enter your serial number again.
Also see the "Installing Your Software" document that is available on the Install disc in the Documentation folder, or as a download from the AppleCare Support manuals page or from these direct links:

  • ID CS2 Requests Serial Number When Launched

    Hi,
Does anyone happen to know why InDesign CS2 would ask for the serial number when it's launched? It displays a dialog that says 'Personalize your software' and asks for Name, Company and Serial Number.
This is not so much of a problem, except that it doesn't accept the serial number. The only number I've got is a suite number and all the other apps (PS, AI, GL) launch fine and display all but the last four digits of the serial number so it looks like I've got that right. I wonder if it's after an app-specific number but I don't have one! All I have is the number on the CS2 box at work.
Do I have to uninstall InDesign and reinstall it?
    Any help gratefully received.
    Juergen

Do you have admin privileges in the account you're doing the serializing from? If not, try logging in from such an account. Other possible fixes might include repairing permissions in Disk Utility or emptying your caches with Onyx or some other cache management tool before attempting to reserialize.
I certainly feel your pain though. Ever since updating to Acrobat 8.1.2 I have been unable to stop Acrobat from asking for my password every time I launch it due to some failure in the wretched and malevolent "self-healing" features. :)

  • Prompting for serial number

I have a valid subscription to Adobe Cloud and have been using apps for almost a year. Now when I try to open Fireworks, I get prompted for a serial number. Also, other apps such as Photoshop, aren't opening at all.

  • Silent install of acrobat 9 that will prompt for serial number

I need to roll out a number of client computers from Dell using their Image Direct program. We order an acrobat license with each computer and when we get the computer from Dell with the Dell image it comes pre-installed with acrobat 9 and the first time you run the program it prompts you for the serial which is on the acrobat cd that is included. I would like to replicate that with the custom image we put on there to load at the factory.
Currently with our imaging setup I replicated that by installing with a serial number then deactivating and removing the serial number before imaging. When we restored the image and started acrobat 9 it again prompted for the serial which allowed us to put in the unique serial number that comes with the computer.
I don't have that option with Image Direct as I can't pre-install acrobat due to virtual drivers so the only way to add it to image is to upload a silent install package and scipt it to install during the image build. This means I don't have a chance to deactivate the serial number used for install before it gets to end user.
Is there a way around this without going to enterprise licensing and being able to use the same serial number on all installs?

It sounds like you are trying to use a retail serial as an enterprise serial and would like to bypass it's restrictions by deactivating it . . . I assume that's not possible, but perhaps I don't understand your issue.
I doubt you'll get a good answer on the forum. Try support, your sales rep, or a help link on the licensing web site (if there is one).

  • Prompted for License code when install Acrobat wit CCP

We have got Creative Cloud for teams and use CCP to make packages to distribute this software on our PC's. When I install only Adobe Acrobat this way, I am prompted for a license code or 30-day trial when I try to start the application. However, when I install Photoshop on the same machine, then start Photoshop and log on to Creative Cloud, I can use both products without any problem. How is this possible? I would very much like to install only Acrobat and no other Adobe products on some of our PC's to reduce the footprint.

    Hi C_Smaardijk,
I am assuming that you are running the AcroPro.msi within the AcrobatProfessional folder from the Exceptions folder. Please use the Exception Deployer to install Acrobat XI pro and then it wont ask you to provide any serial no. Once the installation completes then use your Adobe ID to activate the same.
You can refer to this KB article for Exception Deployer.

Please let me know if it helps.

  • Lightroom 2.4 Always Prompting for Serial Number

Okay, earlier today I had trouble with the installation not completing after I put in my serial number.  A kind person here suggested that I delete the version residing on my machine, download the 2.4 version off the web, and put in my serial number. That worked fine.  I got the software up and running with no issues.
My problem now is that if I close and then relaunch, it prompts me for my serial number and registration information EVERY SINGLE TIME.
This is going to get old really quickly.  Any suggestions?
    MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz, 4GB 1067 mhz ddr3
    Mac OSX 10.5.7
    Lightroom 2.4
    Thanks!

If you had a previous version it is the prefs file that is causing problems.Delete it. See here
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404835.html
The open up LR, enter your licence number and all should be well.
    See also
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401346.html
This problem often occurs when people have downloaded a trial and then brought the software on CD. Rather than just entering the serial number in the downloaded version they un install and re install using the earlier version on the CD. If you did this then hopefully just deleting the prefs file will work, but if it doesn't you may have created other problems and although the second document refers to LR 1 I have seen reports that it also works with LR 2

  • Trying to update LR, get a prompt for serial number

I'm already a CC subscriber and when I updated LR to 5.3, I get a "serial number or try it" prompt. Did I go about the update the wrong way? I should just get all updates automatically, right?

thank you cor-el for your input. think it worked. won't know for sure until i try to update again. no updates available since i installed this version. thanks again

  • Photoshop asking for serial number when I have an active Creative Cloud subscription

I purchased a year subscription to Creative Cloud and when I launch Photoshop and click on license software, it shows my correct adobe id but then asks me for a serial number. How can I fix this? I am on Mac OS X v. 10.8.2

    Hi Cujodvm,
If you had a beta version of Photoshop CS6 you would want to uninstall it and reinstall through the Adobe Application Manager. So long as it was installed through the Adobe Application Manager you should only have to click the "License this software" button and sign in with your Adobe ID.
There is an issue with Photoshop CS6 specifically happening right now in which the product reverts to trial after the 3rd or 4th launch, our engineering team will be addressing this soon with another product update. I'm not sure if that is related or not.
We have this document about the issue
