Prompted to upgrade to Reader X, get error message 13050

Hi,
I was prompted to upgrade from my older AR version 9.something, that was working just fine to AR X. Download went fine; but upon installation I got the message: "Setup interrupted before Adobe Reader could be completely installed. ERROR CODE: 13050". Looked for this error in forums, seems not been mentioned before.  My OS is Windows 7 and I have in this process downloaded at least 3 times, tried to install equal or more number of times, shut off, restarted, allowed thru firewall... I'm running out of ideas and my technical knowledge is pretty basic.
I also tried via Adobe Download manager... didn't work. Meantime my former version of AR has disappeared, so I cannot open any of my pdf documents right now!! Can anyone give me some idea where to go from here?

You cannot install Reader 10.0.0 because Windows Installer engine finds newer version of Adobe Reader on your system.
If you cannot find it anywhere try the following-
1.
Download and install latest Adobe Reader 10.1.0 ( AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi) from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.0/en_US/
Notice that you need .msi version.
Try to install - most likely you will get "Repair\Uninstall"  installation dialog, choose Repair.
2.
If this does not work, the easiest for you would be remove all instances of Adobe Reader using cleanup methods recommended on this forum.
Than try to install Adobe Reader you have downloaded in #1

    Hey gwscrt,
Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    Have a good one,
    David

If you haved tried all the fixes and suggestions, there is not much to add. Just in case: did you really try using this tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html to first eliminate all traces of Reader, and then use the full offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/?

I was today invited to upgrade my iTunes when I logged on.  Update failed. Every time I now try to open iTunes I get error messages.  Second message reads "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes. Error 7. Windows error 126". I now can't sync my iPhoneand I am worried that if I re-install I will lose all my contacts, calendar, notes, etc.

I too had this problems (Windows 8.1).  A few weeks ago after the previous update before this version of itunes, I'd had a problem with the itunes store crashing and at that time I followed instructions to copy QTMovieWin.dll to the itunes folder, which fixed the store crashing.
Today I fixed the problem by:
    Delete QTMovieWin.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
Uninstall ALL Apple Software using Control Panel / Programs and Features.  I uninstalled:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Application Support
    Apple Software Update
    Bonjour
    Delete the folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
    Restart the computer
    Reinstall QuickTime
    Reinstall iTunes
Everything works GREAT now, including the iTunes store.  You will not lose your media files, I got everything back, all my settings, playlists, etc.

    Thanks b noir,
I tried this solution without success. After FixIt ran and didn't find a problem, either in looking for issues with "software upgrade" or "iTunes" it kindly offered to help me uninstall iTunes. I had thought of this as a possibilty but it seems to me that if you do that you lose a lot of "non-native-to-Apple" information you might have entered. I did this once and recovery was painfull. Is there a way to uninstall iTunes without losing all of that sort of thing? Any help would be appreciated.

TDFields you will want to ensure the 7z and exe file are in the same folder/directory.  You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

My first inclination is to answer your question --- yes - something is going wrong! I'm sure more specific information will be needed to help you.
Are you getting a specific message? An error code number? Can you describe exactly what you are doing when you get the message?

I plug in my iPad and try to upgrade to the new iOS 5 and it restored the iPad and now I'm getting error message 1611 and it won't even let me use my iPad right now, it's stuck at the start screen with the sync cord and iTunes logo... HELP...

I had a similar problem -- but found a simple fixe here.
All I had to do was move my USB cable from a port on the side of my computer monitor to a port on the computer itself.
    Easy!
Funny thing is, the original setup worked fine when I upgraded my iPhone 4 earlier in the afternoon, and I've synched my iPad 2 using it hundreds of times.  But it wouldn't do the upgrade for the iPad.
Hopefully it will work for you too, and others that may read this thread.

  • Help with lost pics and contacts in upgrading and get error message when I try to restore.

I lost all pictures and contacts when I upgraded my iphone 4 (for the first time).  I did not download anything because I was using a friend's computer.  I read that apps not in itunes would be lost, but not pictures and I had 1500.  Every time I attempt to restore, I get error messages.  Please help!

If you don't have a sim card in the phone, you won't be able to activate it. You can't activate any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim itself need not be activated, but it must be valid & present.
