Proofing Profile paper type acronyms

I am trying to get an excellent print from my Canon MX722 directly from Aperture 3 under Yosemite on my iMac.
In the menu bar under VIEW I have onScreen Proofing checked, and when I drop down the items for Proofing Profile, I get a list of what I think are paper choices ... the drop down looks like ...
  canon mx720 series GL2
                                     GL3
                                     MP2
                                     PT1
                                     PT2
                                     PT3
                                     SG2/LU2
                                     SG3/LU3
I assume GL is Glossy, SG is semi-gloss, MP is Matte Paper can't figure out PT or the numbers.  I called Canon - and they did not know what the abbreviations were either. Said it was specific to Aperture - suggested I search Aperture Help and Google.  I did both but can not find any definition. The tech did say that to get the best pix it was extremely important to set the correct paper type as the amount of ink that went onto the paper was determined by this.

The Canon employee with whom you spoke has mis-served you.
See if this helps.

  • Can't select paper types

(Mac OSX 10.5.2, LR 1.3.1) Going crazy trying to figure this out. Somewhere around the time HP updated drivers for the Photosmart Pro B8350, I lost the ability to select anything but one paper type. As a result, none of my prints are coming out properly whereas they were perfect before. I've totally removed both the HP software and Lightroom, and started all over again. Bottom line is that only one paper type will show up in Lightroom when I select managed by application.
When I click the profile drop-down menu from the main Print module, I'm presented with two choices: Premium Plus photo (tricolor+grey) and Premium Paper (tricolor+grey). I used to be able to select from a bunch of options. OK, so I use the third menu option, which is Other and gives me a list of profiles to appear in the custom profile popup. I see Advanced Photo Glossy, and check it.
Now I can select it, but when I hit Print... and the printing dialog comes up and I double-check Paper Type/Quality, the only thing that shows is "Premium Plus Photo Paper" and all of the other options, including Advanced, are greyed-out.
I do see that there seems to be some confusion/changes or something related to where printing components are installed. I see that in ~/user/library/colorsync/profiles, things from my previous color printer. The HP stuff all installed in /Library/Printers/hp/Profiles/Photosmart and /Library/Printers/hp/Profiles/business-inkjet
Now that I look at it, the only profiles that sort match my printer name (HP PSPro B8300) are in the business-inkjet folder - NOT the photosmart folder. That doesn't seem right; this isn't a business inkjet printer, it's a photo printer.
I put some screenshots here: http://web.mac.com/vincentdistefano/HP-Lightroom/printing_problems.html
Is this a Lightroom problem? An HP problem? Mac? Very frustrating, as this used to work flawlessly. In fact my print dialogs still have all the nice presets I had set up before, but of course none of them work now.
    Any help greatly, greatly appreciated.

Hi John, Thanks for the tip. I will try that next. Below is a crash log. I printed to the 2200 from Photoshop, then in the print dialog tried to go to "color management" to turn color management off (I am getting magenta prints due to double profiling).

  • Printing: Why are most paper types disabled in HP printer dialog from Photoshop?

    Hi all.
I'm trying to create a printer profile with a GretagMacbeth EyeOne. I've found that from the EyeOne software or from Preview, all paper types are enabled in the Print configuration dialog for my HP C5100-series printer. When trying to print the test chart from Photoshop CS3 (which is necessary, because EyeOne offers no provision for printing on 4x6 photo paper), most paper types (even HP-brand ones) are disabled. It doesn't matter what paper size or source tray I choose.
For example, under the "photo paper" category, only the asterisked ones below are enabled:
    *HP Premium Plus photo papers
    HP Premium photo papers
    *HP Advanced photo paper
    HP Photo paper
    HP Everyday Photo Paper, semi-gloss
    HP Everyday Photo Paper, matte
    other photo papers
Anyone know why papers would be disabled under Photoshop?
    Thanks.

Just read this and thread 1889763 on the subject of greyed out paper types but only after two days of faffing around. I am on Snow Leopard and have just replaced a printer with an HP CC335 (also known as a C309a). Same problem. I get a full range of papers in Pages application but in Photshop there are only a couple of inkjet and photo papers and all the other media types and sub menus are greyed. I did not initally install any drivers from HP or the printer's CD as I had read the HP warning at:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3 737195
A short time after setting up the printer there was a driver update to 2.3 which happned through the Apple software update although I still see v 2.2.1 when I loook in 'about this mac.' Someone on Apple's forum noted that HP had released 2.3 drivers so I downloaed and installed them from HP yesterday. I still only see v2.2.1 and of course none of this has cured the problem.
AS the printer is only a couple of weeks old I will retrun it unless there is a solution. Is there one? Anyone recommend a good all-in-one (plus fax?) that will function properly with photoshop?

  • Aperture won't let me specify paper type

I am running Aperture 2.1.4 with OS 10.6.2.
When I try to print to either my Canon MP460 or my Canon Pixma iP4000 I have no option to select media type.
Under "Printer Selection" in the appropriate portion of the print dialog window I can select between the two printers, set paper size, orientation, Color Sync profile black point compensation, etc. The "calibrate" button is darkened.
When I click "print settings" (beneath the printer name), a drop down appears with only the following options: cover page, scheduler, or summary. Nothing else.
If I click "print", the file is sent right to the printer. Nowhere am I asked to specify the paper type.
If I recall correctly, most programs provide for a variety of printer-specific options before sending a file to the printer. When I print from iPhoto, there are many options, including a drop down menu to specify which Canon paper I am using (and options for color management, etc.)
I have noticed a similar issue when printing from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, but I figured this was an Adobe quirk. Now I'm thinking there might be a problem with the Canon printer drivers or OS X.
Please . . . any help is greatly, greatly appreciated. My prints look awful and I think it might be because the printer and computer have no idea what paper is being used.

OK, I found my problem; I hope this helps any others that find this thread and are having this problem...
My Canon IP4300 printer was connected by USB to a PowerMac G5 and was being shared via Bonjour over my wireless network to my MBP. When I connected the printer to the MBP directly, it now shows it's using the latest Canon drivers (10.26.1.0) and the print dialogue box setting options (incl. paper type) have re-appeared. Problem solved.
The PowerMac G5 is running Leopard and using older Canon drivers (5.8.3). Apparently, using Bonjour printer sharing, the print drivers in use are controlled solely by the remote host machine, so the print drivers installed on the local SL machine were irrelevant, yet the print dialogue is controlled by the local OS.
Too bad SL won't run on my old trusty G5

  • Selecting Paper Type for HP Photosmart 8750 In Lightroom 3.3

Since converting to Lightroom v. 3.3 I am unable to select the paper types on which I wish to print from my HP Photosmart 8750 printer.  In the printer dialog box, the following option is grayed out:  "Photosmart PDE."  I also get the following message:  "The bundle 'HP Photosmart PDE' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture."  It then tells me to contact the bundle's creator for the latest version and then lists the following:  HP Photosmart PDE v. 5.3.  I would appreciate any thoughts as to what the problem is and how it may be corrected.  I have downloaded the most current printer driver and did not have this problem with Lightroom 2, so I am thinking that it must be a compatibility issue between the HP software and Lightroom 3. Thanks.

I inserted photo paper into the printer tray a the start but it printed horribly, like my old canon used to do when I accidentally stuck laser paper in instead of glossy / matte.
Other prints (like from iPhoto) print fine thru the printer.
The Print dialog in the pull down menu contains no options to look at or change the paper type.
On my pc I had a huge section of options when printing where I could select the profile, colour correction, print quality etc etc on any print. Cant seem to find the same options thru Mac.
    Still puzzled?!

  • Aperture's proofing profile list is chaos, can it be organized?

This has been bugging me for a long time. I've even tried to rename the profiles via ColorSync Utility but that hasn't worked for me. Just got a new Epson printer that automatically installed ICC paper profiles and I also installed profiles for another paper company. 26 in all. Now they populate the View/Proofing Profile menu in a totally random fashion. Not even alphabetical. What a mess. It's so unApple-like. It would be so much easier if I could just create a folder for each vendor. But so far that doesn't seem possible.
Anyone bugged by this and have a surefire soution?

Thanks Frank. This is one of those strange Aperture items that's antithetical to the mangement & control meme of Aperture.
    Feedback sent.

  • How to change the paper type in printer settings?

Does anyone know how to change the paper type in printer settings?  I'm trying to have the ability to change it to photo paper from Photoshop Elements.  I can't find the option in printer settings or through Elements.  I'm assuming I could save an additional printer setting for photo printing, but can't find how to even select a different paper type.
    thanks!

It would help to know which OS you are running as the answer will be different if it's Lion or the previous OS's. You are not running iOS 5.0.1 on your MacBook Pro so provide the correct information.

  • I have 10.6.8 and have installed two new printers HP 8610 and an Epson 7880 and can not find the Page Set-up menu anywhere in the applications I a trying to print from. There are no page sizes, paper types, appearsto be locked on a 13x19 size but It.

    Hi to the Mac Folks,
I have 10.6.8 and have installed two new printers HP 8610 and an Epson 7880 and can not find the Page Set-up menu anywhere in the applications I a trying to print from. This is regardless of either printer selected.
I primarily print photos from Photoshop CS5.  The term Page Set-up has gone missing in the file pull down menu. Can't make any choices  There are no page sizes, paper types, appearsto be locked on a 13x19 size paper format. Either being too large or too small.
Saw a 2008 locked issue about this however none of the help fit my situation, options discussed are not available to me.
Preview has no "Page Setup" - or does it?
Does the constant struggle with computer compatability weirdness issues ever end or is it a enslavement scheme?

    Hey,
if you know the name(s) of the root folder(s) you want to access (eg. by making a note on the Windows side) then you can make them appear by just doing Shift-Command-G in Finder ("Go to Folder…"), and entering the full path to the required folders.  You can then navigate all the contents as normal.
    HTH,

  • Epson 3880 cannot change paper types in Acrobat Print dialog

I use Adobe Acrobat as a RIP to print from on my Epson 3880. It looks like I might have to reconstruct all my printer presets since they've disappeared after the upgrade(?) to Yosemite 10.10.3. However the print dialog in Acrobat Pro X no longer allows me to create presets with different paper types. At least I haven't found it anywhere. Is this something that can be worked around or is this an "enhancement" to the new OS?
Should I just give up and go back to Snow Leopard?

Thanks a lot. Although i find it strange that every application sets this up individually. However, I did this in all Applications that I use for printing, now it works just fine.

  • Paper Type issue with Adobe Standard X printing from browser

I work in IT and have two users who suddenly started having a problem printing PDFs from a browser (IE9).  We cannot upgrade the borwser to 10 or 11 because it becomes incompatible with a few of our in house websites.  I uninstalled standard and installed Adobe Reader XI and did not experience the same problem, but they are in need of Standard X in order to do their job.
What happens is when the PDF opens in the browser and they go to printer, the default for paper type is High Gloss paper instead of plain or unspecified.  This doesn't happen if we open a pdf from the desktop and print and the default for the driver is plain.  Yes, we could save the document and then print it, but they feel that takes more time and I have to find out why this is happening. Any help would be very appreciated.
    Windows 7 32 Bit PC
    Internet Explorer 9

Probable issue with the Firefox is that in the documentation it is poorly worded poorly,  JIDS only support FF 17.
What is the issue with IE if that does fix the FF issue?

  • Lack of print options when using photoshop elements 10 i.e. paper type

When printing from Photoshop Elements 10 on my MacBook Pro (File Print) there is no where to select paper type or print quality or there doesn't appear to be unlike when selecting print from iphoto. What have I missed? as there must be a way!

From the Print dialogue box click on the Show Details box at the bottom.

  • How to set the Paper TYPE?

We have HP Multifunction printers here at work, example the HP Laserjet 4345 MFP.
In Output Designer I have no problem setting the Presentment Target, almost always just set it to HP Laserjet 8000/8000N (PCL5).
My problem is that I can control the tray but I can't set the paper type.
My scenario is that the printer is defined at the printer to have Paper Type of 'Label' in Tray 2, and 'Plain' in Tray 3.
When Jetform sends the job to the printer to Tray 2 it does not print on tray 2 because the Paper Type is set to 'Label' and then gets sent to Tray 3 instead.  The Jetform job in this case is a 8 1/2 x 11 label design, really intended for that Tray 2 'Label' Paper type.  It's important because when you set the Paper Type as 'Label' on the printer it mechanically slows things down and changes heat from what I've been told and handles label paper better vs. the 'Plain' settings.  The result is less paper jams.
So...Can anyone tell me how to pass into the job paper type?  Paper Size and Input Tray, are the 2 options I see under Format Page and neither really address Paper Type.
    Thanks,
    Bill

I'm surprised that nobody has any ideas on this topic!?  This is a major drawback or seems to be.
FYI -  This is printing from an HP-UX 11.23 Itanium based Unix system.

    Hi,
any one can please suggest how can I change paper type in the notification. its by default set to letter format. I want to change it to A4 size for a particular user. is there any way I can do this?

    Hi Bhanukishor,
Try to set the default printer setting in your PCs --> Start --> Devices and Printers --> Right click on default printer --> Printing preferences --> Go on Tab Paper --> Changes the Print on = A4.
I think it will resolved your problem.

  • Cannot Select Paper Type in Photoshop 10

New Imac, new HP C5280, new copy of Photoshop 10 for Mac. No paper type is offered in print options, (matte, glossy, etc) in Photoshop. Hooked up my older Epson RX620, exactly the same problem, but both work in Win XP ok in Photoshop CS3. Being bounced around by tech help by HP, Adobe and Mac. All latest drivers downloaded and installed as per Tech help line instructions. No change. Anyone help?

so I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days & nights now trying to figure out why I couldnt print on custom paper sizes - I've just now hit the "help" icon in the print dialog box (so simple I didnt ever think to read through the steps set out!) and found this:
    "Creating a custom page size
If you want to print on unusual size paper, such as an odd-size envelope or card, you may be able choose the paper’s size from the Paper Size pop-up menu. To find the Paper Size pop-up menu, choose File > Page Setup, if available. Otherwise, choose File > Print.
If you can’t find the size you need, you can create your own custom paper size.
To create a custom page size:
Open the document you want to print.
Choose File > Page Setup, if it’s available. Choose Page Attributes from the Settings pop-up menu, and then choose Any Printer from the Format For pop-up menu.
Choosing Any Printer ensures that your document can print on any printer that supports the paper size you select.
If Page Setup is not available, choose File > Print.
If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across the bottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.
Choose Manage Custom Sizes from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
    Click the Add button.
Type a name for the paper size.
Enter values in the Paper Size and Printer Margins field."
All I had to change was the "any printer" setting from my (konica minolta) printers name to "Any Printer"!! now my custom paper sizes are printing fine and dandy!! phew!!!!!!!!
I know this isn't the exact prob you're having, but try the help in the print driver and follow the steps set out - it worked for me!
