Propating Certificate info through Apache!?

Hi!
I'm trying to do SSL Client Authentication in my Apache server and
then proxy the request to my WLS for processing. I would like to be
able to access info from the client's certificate in my WLS servlet,
but have a hard time to find any info about how to do this!
1. Can I access info about the client certificate from the WLS without
performing the client SSL authentication in WLS?
2. If the answer to 1. is "YES", then what should the httpd.conf SSL
entries look like?
3. If the answer to 1. is "NO", can the whole SSL communication be
proxied to WLS using some httpd.conf directive?
Yours, Anders

I have a slightly different take than Craig (if I understand what he is
suggesting). I believe that you'll need to setup mutual auth (as you implied)
between the browser and IPlanet so that IPlanet has the user's cert. You're right. We will use 2-way authentication between browser and iPlanet.
That cert
will get passed into WLS by the NSAPI plugin and in WLS you can use the
Certificate Authenticator to get the user info.Ok, so You're saying that:
- the cert will be passed on to WLS through the plugin
- I can access it in my servlet the same way as if it had been provided
through a HTTPS connection directly with WLS, ie through javax.net.ssl.
If the above is true, that's great. But I am a little suspicios since I can't
find any mention of this behaviour in the docs (5.1 or 6.0beta). Everything
is assuming that you're talking SSL directly to WLS. I have read about how
to configure the NSAPI plugin. I expected to have to do at least some SSL
specific configuration but it doesn't talk about it at all.
I guess I'll just have to try it out.
The NSAPI plug doesn't
currently speak SSL. Setting WLS for 2 way authentication only would apply to
browsers or java clients directly talking to WLS.Right. And one other reason for us using iPlanet is that they support hardware
acceleration and external key storage, should we need it.

A log can be found below with the results while running my application. The loader just can't seem to find the Httpclient on the server or something to that extent. All searches made per this error message on the Internet have failed to yield any results that would afford me a solution to my problem. Any assistance that you can afford to me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Eric.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • How to retrieve client certificate passed by Apache proxy

    Hi all,
    Here's my configuration:
    Client <--HTTPS-->Apache Proxy (2-way SSL) <-- HTTP --> WLS 8.1
I need to be able to access the client certificate passed to Apache by the client in my Java applications hosted on WLS.
    Here's what I did:-
<pre>1. Set up Apache 2-way SSL. Tested ok.
    2. Set up Apache-Weblogic proxy. Tested ok for both HTTP, and server-side HTTPS.
    3. Configured Apache's ssl.conf SSLOption to export certifiate data: SSLOptions +ExportCertData.
    4. In my application, I used request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.request.X509Certificate") to try and retrieve the certificate.</pre>
However the certificate don't seem to be passed along to Weblogic :-(
Any ideas if I'm missing any steps from above? Or if it's even possible to do this?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Any ideas

The WL-Client-Proxy cert should be the cert used on the proxy side if SSL is configured between Apache and WebLogic, so I believe that is the reason why that does not work. Basically, the problem here is that SSL is end-to-end, and the two ends of this transaction are the client and apache.
That said, when you add the +ExportCertData option, this should record the client's SSL certificate in the vairable SSL_CLIENT_CERT.  So you should be able to use request.getAttribute("SSL_CLIENT_CERT").
    See:
    http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_reference.html
If this doesn't work for you (which is possible if the WL_Proxy is doing something funny to the request), it is probably best just to dump out the entire contents of the session, and see what you have:
    for (Enumeration e = request.getAttributeNames() ; e.hasMoreElements() ; ) {
    String attr = (String)e.nextElement();
    System.out.println("ATTR = " + attr);
    System.out.println("VAL = " + request.getAttribute(attr));
If you can't see any SSL certificate there, you will have to work out some way to pass this on manually.
    cheers,
    Trevor

    Hi,
I want to know if there is any way to get the html tag info

for example, if the html snippet is:

can I get the 'name', 'id' attribute value of this html tag

    actionscript can

  • Invoking Tomcat 5 servlets through Apache

    Hello,
    I have Apache 2.0.45, Tomcat 5.0 and mod_jk1.2.2 running on Redhat 8.0.
I am trying to get Tomcat's jsp-examples and servlets-examples to run through Apache (http://localhost). They work as expected through Tomcat (http://localhost:8080).
I added the following to httpd.conf:
    Alias /jsp-examples /jakarta-tomcat-5/webapps/jsp-examples
    Alias /servlets-examples /jakarta-tomcat-5/webapps/servlets-examples
    JkMount /jsp-examples/servlet/* Worker1
    JkMount /jsp-examples/*.jsp Worker1
    JkMount /servlets-examples/servlet/* Worker1
    JkMount /servlets-examples/*.jsp Worker1
With the above included in Apache's config I am able to invoke the index.html for each of the above apps. However, when I click on any of the example links I get "Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request"
One of the links for the servlets-examples I am testing is:
    http://localhost/servlets-examples/servlet/HelloWorldExample
And HelloWorldExample.class is in the /servlets-examples/WEB-INF/classes
    directory.
With the above configuration shouldn't Apache route the request for the servlet through to Tomcat? What more do I need to add to either Apache's or Tomcat's conf files to get this to work? As I said, they work fine through Tomcat, so I don't think I need to tweak the web.xml(s)... or do I?
    TIA

    </IfModule>

    In Apache's http.conf add:
    Include H:/tomcat-4/conf/jk/mod_jk.conf
Don't forget to restart both Tomcat and Apache
http://localhost/examples/jsp and http://localhost/examples/servlets should give you the std Tomcat JSP and Servlets examples

  • Redirection through Apache

We have an application which is deployed on Weblogic 7.0 SP2, the application has
to be accessed through Apache server, so the request first goes to Apache and
then redirects it to WLS, but if somebody directly accesses the WLS server then
also he can access the application, I do not want any one to directly access
the WLS but all requests should be routed through Apache server. If someone accesses

  • Accessing content through Apache filter

I need help for the following:
I want to access the weblogic portal contents through Apache filter mod_ext_filter.
If I access the a stand alone JSP page its is properly filtered through Apache.
However when I access the portal home page through apache filter, it does not
    filtered.
Apache filter all the out of type text/html.
What could be the problem. If any one has some idea about it please let me know.

    Vinoth,
I am aware about the solution provided by you. But my problem here is the Server name + port and not the rest of the URL.
For eg. my consumer portal is http://Aserver:50000
    and producer portal is http://Bserver:51000.
While I am able to access the HTML page via consumer and till then the URL has the consumer Server + port details (for eg. http://Aserver:50000), once I click any link on it the URL in the address bar of the browser window changes to that of the producer for eg http://Bserver:51000. All subsequent browsing happens in the producer as I am transferred to the Producer.
Let me know if anybody has more suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Kaushik

    hello there -
I'm hoping someone can help me.
I want index.jsp, our first page, to ACT like a JSP, rather than the current HTML. It seems that httpd.conf wont access OC4J, so i've attempted to access Jserv. Still, things wont work.

    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/usr/local/apache/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerType is either inetd, or standalone. Inetd mode is only supported on
    # Unix platforms.
    ServerType standalone
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
    # (available at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "/oraapp/9iAS10220/home/Apache/Apache"
    # The LockFile directive sets the path to the lockfile used when Apache
    # is compiled with either USE_FCNTL_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT or
    # USE_FLOCK_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT. This directive should normally be left at
    # its default value. The main reason for changing it is if the logs
    # directory is NFS mounted, since the lockfile MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL
    # DISK. The PID of the main server process is automatically appended to
    # the filename.
    #LockFile /devl/ics3/devl/apache/logs/httpd.lock
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile /devl/ics3/devl/apache/logs/httpd.pid
    # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
    # Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
    # this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
    # no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
    ScoreBoardFile /devl/ics3/devl/apache/logs/httpd.scoreboard
    # In the standard configuration, the server will process httpd.conf (this
    # file, specified by the -f command line option), srm.conf, and access.conf
    # in that order. The latter two files are now distributed empty, as it is
    # recommended that all directives be kept in a single file for simplicity.
    # The commented-out values below are the built-in defaults. You can have the
    # server ignore these files altogether by using "/dev/null" (for Unix) or
    # "nul" (for Win32) for the arguments to the directives.
    #ResourceConfig conf/srm.conf
    #AccessConfig conf/access.conf
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
    KeepAliveTimeout 15
    # Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
    # server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
    # sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
    # handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
    # load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
    # Netscape browser).
    # It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
    # for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
    # a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
    # spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
    MinSpareServers 1
    MaxSpareServers 2
    # Number of servers to start initially --- should be a reasonable ballpark
    # figure.
    StartServers 1

    # of clients who can simultaneously connect --- if this limit is ever
    # reached, clients will be LOCKED OUT, so it should NOT BE SET TOO LOW.
    # It is intended mainly as a brake to keep a runaway server from taking
    # the system with it as it spirals down...
    MaxClients 150
    # MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
    # allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
    # as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
    # libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
    # isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
    # in the libraries. For these platforms, set to something like 10000
    # or so; a setting of 0 means unlimited.
    # NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
    # request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
    # an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
    # would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
    MaxRequestsPerChild 0

    # Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
    # To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you

    # details about the DSO mechanism and run `httpd -l' for the list of already

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # If your ServerType directive (set earlier in the 'Global Environment'
    # section) is set to "inetd", the next few directives don't have any
    # effect since their settings are defined by the inetd configuration.

    ### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
    # VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
    # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
    # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
    # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
    # Please see the documentation at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/>
    # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
    # You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
    # configuration.
    # If you want to use name-based virtual hosts you need to define at
    # least one IP address (and port number) for them.
    # Use name-based virtual hosting.
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78:80
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78

    # o FakeBasicAuth:
    # Translate the client X.509 into a Basic Authorisation. This means that
    # the standard Auth/DBMAuth methods can be used for access control. The
    # user name is the `one line' version of the client's X.509 certificate.
    # Note that no password is obtained from the user. Every entry in the user
    # file needs this password: `xxj31ZMTZzkVA'.
    # o ExportCertData:
    # This exports two additional environment variables: SSL_CLIENT_CERT and
    # SSL_SERVER_CERT. These contain the PEM-encoded certificates of the
    # server (always existing) and the client (only existing when client
    # authentication is used). This can be used to import the certificates
    # into CGI scripts.
    # o StdEnvVars:
    # This exports the standard SSL/TLS related `SSL_*' environment variables.
    # Per default this exportation is switched off for performance reasons,
    # because the extraction step is an expensive operation and is usually
    # useless for serving static content. So one usually enables the
    # exportation for CGI and SSI requests only.
    # o CompatEnvVars:
    # This exports obsolete environment variables for backward compatibility
    # to Apache-SSL 1.x, mod_ssl 2.0.x, Sioux 1.0 and Stronghold 2.x. Use this
    # to provide compatibility to existing CGI scripts.
    # o StrictRequire:
    # This denies access when "SSLRequireSSL" or "SSLRequire" applied even
    # under a "Satisfy any" situation, i.e. when it applies access is denied
    # and no other module can change it.

    # SSL Protocol Adjustments:
    # The safe and default but still SSL/TLS standard compliant shutdown
    # approach is that mod_ssl sends the close notify alert but doesn't wait for
    # the close notify alert from client. When you need a different shutdown
    # approach you can use one of the following variables:
    # o ssl-unclean-shutdown:
    # This forces an unclean shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. no
    # SSL close notify alert is send or allowed to received. This violates
    # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where
    # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert.
    # o ssl-accurate-shutdown:
    # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a
    # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify
    # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in
    # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation
    # works correctly.
    # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP
    # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable
    # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this.

    Weird ... that works.
So, I created the dummy account which was also failing as follows:
    create user newuser identified by oracle;
grant developer_role to newuser; This fails, but only from a Form running under OC4J, until I run:
ALTER SYSTEM SET sec_case_sensitive_logon = FALSE scope = MEMORY;While I've made this change in our development database, I don't really want to do the same eventually in PROD. I'd rather figure out what's changed about how OC4J connects, find a rememdy there, and set this back to TRUE.
Since I didn't create the username or password as a string literal (to ensure lowercasing), I'm confused as to what's happening. When the init parm is set to TRUE, when the dialog box pops up for the form after the invalid username/password error, I tried entering the password in all lowercase, and then in all uppercase, to no effect. Both fail.

  • Problems using 4096 bit SSL certificate with WebLogic Apache 2.2 plug-in

    Hi,
'm using WebLogic 9.2 MP3 and Apache HTTP Server (version 2.2) Plug-In. For security reasons, I have SSL installed on both Apache and WebLogic. So Apache must communicate with WebLogic via https.
I get the following error when attempting to access WebLogic via Apache:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
These are the last lines in wlproxy log:
Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221392> INFO: SSL is configured
Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221392> SSL Main Context not set. Calling InitSSL
Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221331> INFO: Initializing SSL library
I've found that the problem is caused by using a 4096 bit intermediate cert. When I include this 4096 bit cert in the file referenced by plugin parameter "TrustedCAFile", it is unable to load it. I've tested 4096 bit certs from a few different certificate authorities, and consistently see this problem, so I know the problem is not related to the specific certificate. If I use a 2048 bit intermediate certificate, everything works perfectly fine.
Do you know if there are limitations to the certificate length that the plug-in can use?

Yes 4096 bit Certificates are not supported by the plugin.
You can use up to 2048 bit.
There is a Bug which clearly mentions it.
I dont remember the Bug Number, but an Oracle Support person will be able to tell you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Maintain Sales Tax Exemption Certificate info in Customer Master Record

    Hello people!
I really need your help in this one: we are going to implement SAP in a company settled in Canada. The users requested us that it is highly important to maintain Tax exemption certificate for GST (GST is "Goods and sales tax" -- not withholding) in the customer master record.
I couldn't find anything in SAP to store this info in the Customer Master Record... have you ever had this issue before? is there a workaround? We are not using any external tax system (for example: Vertex). Any information is useful. Thanks in advance. Maria.

    Hi Maria,
I was going through how GST works and I think you can create Tax codes under withholding tax and use the same as withholding tax.
As per my understanding of GST, all your process can be met...
However, for reports because there is no standard avail, you would need to develop reports..
    Hope this helps..
    Cheers,
