Propellerhead Reason 3 compatibility with Snow Leopard?

Before I buy the Snow Leopard update, I want to make sure of compatibility with a few of my apps. I know there are compatibility lists out there but I can't find any specific mention of Snow Leopard's compatibility with Propellerhead Reason 3.
Can anyone with Reason 3 who has taken the Snow Leopard plunge let me know if there were any issues?
cheers,
Ian

Propellerhead just released a new version (this week) - I wonder if earlier versions will not even be considered to be Snow Leopard-compatible.
Totally off-topic, I talked to the folks at Carbonite this afternoon. They have a very popular Windows backup scheme - and recently released a "dumbed-down" version for Mac (lacking backup scheduling, and other important-to-many features that are in the Windows version).
"We haven't tested Carbonite for Mac under Snow Leopard yet ... " - was the first statement made by their representative.
This attitude just made me wonder: Authors of US$19 little utilities have released Snow Leopard-compatible versions this week, so Apple allows publishers of all sizes to get into the beta process. But why would several MAJOR applications not care enough to get their collective acts together for us?
And so it goes. I am off to a local retailer, who's opening up at a minute past midnight to sell Snow Leopard for a couple hours tonight.

  • Lacie burner compatibility with Snow Leopard

I have been corresponding with Lacie concerning the inability with Snow Leopard to use the Lightscribe software anymore. I was able to burn labels before Snow Leopard. Their reply is below and I don't have a clue what they're talking about. I hope someone in this forum can enlighten me.
    Thank you in advance,
You need to update the silicon image mother board of the Mac to the latest version so the LaCie drive can be operated under Snow Leopard.
How to do that is actually out of our support field, you will need to contact Mac tech support and they should provide more information on the issue.

I've never used Lightscribe (my dvd drive is pre-Lightscribe); but I just checked their downloads pages and I saw
Lightscribe labeler 1.2.2 which "fixes issues with 10.6"
Have you tried that? I've scoured their support pages and the only reference to a possible problem with 10.6 has to do with a setup assistant for an external hard drive (if you use a setup assistant).
Their email support could be better (I'm being polite); I have a problem with their statement:
+"so the LaCie drive can be operated under Snow Leopard."+
If they are referring to any DVD drive, it is bunk - mine is old and works just fine with 10.6.3 (I just tried it). As for the "silicon image mother board", unfortunately, I don't have a clue - I'd inquire if they're sure they are referring to a Mac rather than a Windows machine because we call it logic board.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 - Compatibility with Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard I have been unable to start DVD Studio Pro (4.0.3) - it shuts down immediately. I've tried getting the latest update for both Snow Leopard and DVD Studio Pro but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

If it worked and is Non-UB eventually issues could crop up, more so as more into the newer versions of the OS come out I would guess. But if you were running the version of DVD SP on your laptop with Snow Leopard and then after the software updates it stopped running, then in all likelihood it sounds like that one of the updates may have broke DVD SP in SL. Which updates did you install and can you roll back the system prior to the new software updates?
Deleting preferences could be something to also try.
    User-> Prefs -> com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist
You can also try to create another user account to see if that helps.

  • Time Machine and Disk Permissions + Compatibility with Snow Leopard

I have received warning from Disk Utility that I should repair permissions as several files show incorrect permissions and, more than that, my 750GB shows "769GB available".
    My questions are:
    1. If I use Command+R and rebuild the disk from a Time Machine backup, will permissions be reset or will the files just be copied as they are now?
    2. Is there a way to verify the TM backups to check the files therein?
    3. Suppose, just for the sake of an exercise, that I reload Snow Leopard; can I still use SL's Time Machine to read a Lion Time Machine backup?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!
    Fernando

Why are you repairing permissions? It's a waste of time unless you have a specific reason to do it, and the warnings don't mean anything.
To verify your Time Machine backup, proceed as below.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo tmutil compare
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
Files that you’ve excluded from backup, or that are excluded automatically, are ignored.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

  • IStumbler compatibility with snow leopard

I have had problems with my wifi dropping connection intermittently as has been discussed on this forum extensively. The solution I found to the problem was to run iStumbler constantly which somehow completely resolved the problem. Since upgrading to snow leopard, iStumbler is not currently compatible and I am back to the same old problems. I wonder if anyone knows if, and when, iStumbler will be compatible with SL. Also, is there another similar program that might offer the same solution (I tried air radar which didn't help). Many thanks

KisMAC works. I'm not sure if it will provide the same function you are looking for.

  • PSE compatability with Snow Leopard?

After using PSE v6.0 for years under Mac Leopard, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and it is no longer stable....crashes mostly when saving a file.  I tried reinstalling PSE v6.0 but nothing changed.  I've looked for upgrades to both Snow Leopard and PSE v6.0 but Snow Leopard's didn't improve anything and I can't find upgrade to PSE.  Looked at the web for help but find only old complaints and an inconsistent experience....some installations work and some don't with no fix to be found  Need help, please.  Don

    Barbara,
This is from yahoo mail instead of my Thunderbird Mail client.  I don't know why
    this
does work with you but does to others.  Anyway, here is what I tried to say:
Barbara, I hope you can see this email content.  To answer your     questions,
I didn't do a clean upgrade but simply put in the Snow Leopard disk     that
I had purchased from Apple some time ago.  Second, and apparently
    important, though I thought I had upgraded from v6.0, I hadn't.  So     I just
did that...going to 10.6.8!  Without deleting the PSE preferences     and
repairing permissions, I tried using PSE on a dozen or so different     images
and several formats.  THEY ALL WORKED AND PSE DIDN'T CRASH!!!
Finally, in looking around the fora and web yesterday, I see that     you are
involved in helping so many of us neophytes.  May I thank     you for
all your kind...and tolerant....assistance.  I hope I am now     restored and
can free you to extend your kindness to others.  Appreciatively,      Don

  • Microtek i800 compatability with snow leopard

I installed snow leopard 10.6.6 yesterday. Now I can't use my scanner. It's a Microtek i800. When I try to open the program the initial graphic appears on my screen, then a box asking me to use color sync. I click okay, and then nothing happens. When I go to force quit in the apple menu it says scanwizard pro 7 not responding. I tried downloading the latest driver from Microtek. That hasn't helped.

same problem here, but with the i900... i've downloaded the snow leopard drivers from the website but it just freezes with the startup image... the app never fully starts...

  • IPhoto version compatibility with Snow Leopard

Since I can't transfer my individual picture dates nor my extensive album data to iPhoto 9, is it possible to install an earlier iPhoto version on my new iMac that will accept this data?
    Thanks,
    Barbara Westmoreland

Since I can't transfer my individual picture dates nor my extensive album data to iPhoto 9, is it possible to install an earlier iPhoto version on my new iMac that will accept this data?
As answered in your previous duplicate question, Sure you can transfer to iPhoto '09 if you have a previous version of iPhoto - simply connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode. etc) and drag the old iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto - it will convert as needed

  • Which version of iLife works with Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

My hard drive died recently and I had to get a new drive.  I lost everything from iLife (iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie etc.).  Someone suggested that I buy a old copy of iLife on either Amazon or eBay.  Which version should I get that is compatable with Snow Leopard 10.6.8?  Is it iLife '09 or iLife '11?

The online Apple store will not sell old versions - you rlocal physical Apple store may be able to help - worth asking
When I gave an older Mac to my son and could not find the disks to go with it Apple support sold me the replacement disks very reasonably  And the Apple stores generally are very helpful
Since you can not find the disks:
You can contact Apple - they may replace them for you - or purchase an iLife '11 DVD from a source like Amazon or eBay - or check with your closest Apple store - I like the Fasion Island one myself

I have to downgrade from Yosemite to Snow Leopard because of compatibility issues with some of my software.  Can I use PS Elements 12 with snow leopard?

PSE12 became a 64 bit app for the first time on Mac. The recommended system requirements are Mac OS X v10.7 through v10.8.
Are you not able to use lion or Mountain Lion?

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Tons of problems with Snow Leopard

Made this post over at my blog but I figure this would be a better forum for it in hopes we can get some of these issues resolved... it seems like Apple has pulled a Microsoft and released what appears to be a beta version of Snow Leopard! Inexcusable bugs are appearing left and right, and the supposed "improvements" have actually hindered my computer performance and productivity...
This really surprised me. After years of releasing amazing OS upgrades that seemed to make the best OS even better, it seems like Apple has taken 2 steps back with Snow Leopard. I can't tell you how upset I was to realize I was experiencing many problems that I previously only saw on PCs.
After one of the many bugs popped up again on my computer, I got frustrated and started combing the internets for a list of known bugs in the OS and the inevitable slew of Apple users registering their disgust. Unfortunately, my search didn't turn up anything but positive reviews of the OS and very limited complaints on a few message boards. To this end, I'm posting this entry to try and help other users who are experiencing similar issues and hopefully get Apple to clean up this mess of an OS.
Below I've created (and will be adding to) a list of problems I've experienced in OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard. I encourage everyone to list your Snow Leopard issues in the comments as well, in hopes we can create a master list of problems.
I am using a 2 GHz Black MacBook (Core 2 Duo) with 2GB of RAM. Keep in mind Leopard (OS 10.5) was running flawlessly on this more than capable machine. I am currently running the latest Snow Leopard build, 10.6.1. I upgraded 10.5 with the retail version of Snow Leopard, integrating my current apps into 10.6 (did not do a clean install). I've organized my issues below by application. This post is less about third-party applications and more about Apple apps/built-in OS features, as Apple is fully accountable for these pieces.
    APPLE APPS
    Airport:
    • Airport is now incredibly slow getting past the "searching" status message and into what was known as "scanning" status in 10.5 (now called "Looking For Networks…" status message). This issue occurs most often when I revive the computer from sleep. I have to turn Airport off and on again, then wait an inordinate amount of time to get past the useless "Searching…" message.
    Volume and Sound:
    • I rely on my volume control icon on the toolbar. I change my system volume dozens of times every day (due to my job)... previously, I could click the volume icon then simply roll the scroll wheel on my two-button mouse to adjust the volume. Now, I have to actually move my mouse down onto the volume slider area before my scroll wheel works! What gives? In allowing the user to fine-tune the volume levels, Apple removed this functionality for some reason? This is a real pain for me as the extra second it takes to do this really adds up by the end of the day.
    • Sound now starts stuttering for no reason? When I wake my computer up from sleep and I have headphones or speaker plugged in, the audio stutters greatly. I have to unplug then re-plug my speakers or headphones to fix the issue! This is a problem I saw on many PCs due to sound cards not playing with Windows nicely, but was NEVER an issue I experienced using OS X.
    • The Mac OS startup chime plays on my MacBook external speaker when I startup, even though I have speakers or headphones plugged in! It also does not matter if I had my system volume on mute when restarting • the OS seems to now decide what volume my system should be at when I start up!
    Safari:
    • Defaults to 64-bit mode silently, and this breaks most plug-ins (my issue was with download manager iGetter, specifically). I had to manually Get Info on the app, then switch back to 32-bit mode, which it seems Apple has not designed Snow Leopard to support properly?
    • Freezes and crashes more often, most often when running Flash video. This occurs when I open multiple videos on YouTube, for example.
    • Hogging memory even more than it used to (1GB of RAM to run the app?? Really?)
    Stacks:
    • Apple seems to have completely removed the functionality or sortable sub-folder listings? For example, if I choose to sort my stack by "Date Modified", the initial list of folders in the stack appear by date, but all my sub-folders appear in Alpha order, and there is no way to change this! Come on Apple, why remove this?
    iPhoto:
    • Freezes completely when I go to "Export…". My Export opens on the Facebook tab of the dialogue box, and it seems the issue occurs when iPhoto can't find the source image. Rather than an error message though, I get the color wheel of death.
    Spotlight/Search:
    • When I search from a Finder window, sometimes I get the new feature of sortable results columns to work, but sometimes I don't. Seems arbitrary when it works and when it doesn't.
    System Preferences:
    • More of an annoyance, System Preferences now has to restart the first time I click on any third-party preference in "Other". Some work, most don't.
    Install:
    • In previous OS X upgrades, Apple gave me the option to "Backup and Install". This option was not present on Snow Leopard, so not sure what a user can d if they do not have a Time Machine backup and their install fails.
    Preview:
    • Preview slows down considerably when opening multiple files.
    THIRD-PARTY APPS
    Entourage:
    • Entourage froze up when I tried to simply delete one of my email accounts. The Accounts window went blank and the application froze.
    CS3:
    • Slower than ever, Photoshop is running at a snail's pace.
I hope everyone can contribute to this string and get Apple to fix these problems.

I can address some of these:
Safari defaults to 64-bit mode silently, and this breaks most plug-ins (my issue was with download manager iGetter, specifically). I had to manually Get Info on the app, then switch back to 32-bit mode, which it seems Apple has not designed Snow Leopard to support properly?
All applications, to the best of my knowledge, will run in 64-bit if they include 64-bit code. With most you'll never notice, but if an application supports plugins, then you have to pay attention to whether the plug-in is available in a 64-bit version. More and more are becoming available, but not all. If you have plug-ins that aren't, you need to set the app - Safari or whatever - to 32-bit mode. This is not a bug; it's necessitated by the conversion to full-time 64-bit support. The developer of iGetter claims that an update for compatibility with Safari in 64-bit mode is under development but no time frame has been given.
Snow Leopard is perfectly capable of running 32-bit apps. You just can't mix them, running a 32-bit plugin in a 64-bit app.
Freezes and crashes more often, most often when running Flash video. This occurs when I open multiple videos on YouTube, for example.
Have you installed the latest version of Flash? Flash is almost always a bit problematical, but I've had no problems running Flash content on any site with SL.
Hogging memory even more than it used to (1GB of RAM to run the app?? Really?)
This may just be an issue of not being clear on how Mac OS X allocates memory. This article may provide some insight:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342
More of an annoyance, System Preferences now has to restart the first time I click on any third-party preference in "Other". Some work, most don't.
This is normal if a preference pane has not been provided in a 64-bit version.
In previous OS X upgrades, Apple gave me the option to "Backup and Install". This option was not present on Snow Leopard
Actually it was called "archive and install" and was removed as an option as no longer necessary. The normal installation creates all necessary new files and more robustly replaces old ones, so having an archive of the old system folder was deemed to no longer be needed.
so not sure what a user can d if they do not have a Time Machine backup and their install fails.
To restore completely from a full Time Machine backup, you erase the disk using Disk Utility from the menu in the Installer, then choose to restore from a TM backup.
Preview slows down considerably when opening multiple files.
Seems to work OK for me. I've had as many as twenty open with no noticeable slowdown. But you may be opening much larger documents than I have.
Entourage froze up when I tried to simply delete one of my email accounts. The Accounts window went blank and the application froze.
Impossible to offer any advice here without knowing what version of Entourage you're using, whether it's been fully updated, and what type of email account this was.
    Regards.

  • Logic 9.1.1 crashes with Snow Leopard 10.6.4

I just updated my OS on a 2 x 3 GHz Duel-Core Intel Xeon Mac from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and installed Logic Studio 9.1.1 but it crashes on launch. I had a similar problem with Digital Performer crashing and traced that to a Plug in (Motu Ethno Instruments 1)that wasn't compatible with Snow Leopard. I moved the Ethno Instruments related files from the Plug-ins folders. This fixed DP, but Logic still won't launch. I suspect that it is plug-in related but don't know what to try next. I am running the following plug-ins: Vienna Ensemble/Instruments, Kontakt 3, MachFive 2, Play (Storm Drum, Voices of Passion, Symphonic Choirs with Word Builder, Waves Plug-ins. Any ideas???

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard.

I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard. But my Snow Leopard install disk is too old for Windows 7, so attempted Boot Camp install of drivers fails.
I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

    Dear Nathan,
Many thanks. To the best of my memory, that is how I got where I am today. Initially I had one failed setup, then discovered compatibility mode and ran using it.  The result was not an obvious failure, but something was not there because not only were some drivers missing (wi-fi, trackpad, ...) but (much to my disappointment) the 3.1 update would not run. It complained that 3.0 wasn't there. If I hardwired to my home network, the machine would do almost everything I wanted, but the graphics were slow and clumsy. That is when I hunted around for the NVidia driver and downloaded it from NVidia. And that is where I stand now.
My son found this link http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/01/15/using-boot-camp-to-install-windows-7-on-you r-mac-the-complete-walkthrough/
which has instructions claiming to do the install straight to Win 7 without using compatibility mode.
Given that my clumsy efforts to patch things up have probably necessitated a Win 7 deinstall and reinstall to test either your plan or the one my son found, I am inclined to sit tight for a couple of days to see  how much I can learn.
I appreciate your interest in  this problem, and if you are up for reading the process at the link my son found and commenting, I would be grateful.
In any case, many thanks, Paul
