Proper amount of DSP resources in router?

Let's say we have a small site with 25 IP phones, 4 analog devices using a FXS module in the router and an ISDN PRI circuit using a T1 module in the router.  I assume a PVDM3 module with 64 DSPs would be more than enough to handle that site?  Does the FXS module have its own DSP resources and we don't need to figure those in?  I figure the ISDN PRI would use up to 23 DSP resources and then what's left out of the 64 on that PVDM3 could be used for conferencing, media termination point and so on.  Am I thinking about this correctly?   Sound reasonable (64 DSPs for a site like that)?

I didn't know there was one....but I just found it.  Thanks

  • DSP Resource for VIC3-4FXS/DID on NM-HDV2

    Hi,
If only PVDM3 is installed on the C3945 motherboard (Slot 0), and I have VIC3-4FXS/DID inserted in the NM-HDV2 and but without PVDM2 installed in the NM-HDV2, can I still enable the FXS port?
Do I need to have this command to enable dsp sharing with the NM-HDV2?
    voice-card 1
    dsp tdm pooling
Also, should the FXS ports appear in the "show voice port summary"?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    just refer this
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/interfaces-modules/2800-3800-high-density-packet-voice-digital-signal-processor/index.html
Are the PVDM3 modules supported in a NM-HDV2?
    A. No. You cannot install PVDM3 modules directly on the PVDM slots of an NM-HDV2, only the PVDM2s are
supported by the NM-HDV2. However, an NM-HDV2 that has no PVDMs installed at all can share PVDM3 DSP
resources from the router motherboard PVDM slots across the chassis backplane.
    Q. Do the PVDM2 modules work with the Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series platforms?
    A. Yes. You can install PVDM2 modules on the motherboard PVDM slots using special adaptor cards (PVDM2-
ADPTR). You can also insert an NM-HDV2 module with PVDM2 modules into the service-module slot of the
Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series platforms using the network-to-server module adaptor card (SM-NM-ADPTR).

    Hi andrew3,
Container resource functionality is available only in PP-PI manufacturing and not in Discrete manufacturing, because of which you are not able to assign this resources in routings

  • NM-HDV DSP resource sharing

I have a NM-HDV module with two PVDM-16 modules and a VWIC-1MFT installed in a 2811. I have a VIC2-2FXO card that I need to install into one of the HWIC slots. Is there any way that I can share the DSP resources from the NM-HDV for the new FXO card or do I have to install new PVDM2 dsp modules in the 2811?

Can we put PVDM2-64 on NM-HDV network module ?
Because we are using NM-HDV module with PVDM12, we want to add PVDM2-64 on this module. will it possible?

  • DSP resources ISDN Busy Message

    Hi,
we are using two 1760 with VWIC-1MFT-E1 to connect to PBXs via WAN.
We have not enough DSPs to support all channels of the E1.
Is there any possibility to transfer the no dsp resources available message to an ISDN Busy event, so that the PBX which is gerating the call will get an ISDN message and not a SID tone?
    many thanks in advance
    August

I don't think we can do this. One workaround may be to only configure the channels that the DSPs support on the 1760.
    Hope this helps.

  • Modifying DSP resource Allocation on the AS5300

It seems I may have some faulty DSP banks on an AS5300 but aren't sure how to 'juggle' the resources around to identify where the faulty channels lie. Could anyone point me in the right direction??
    Many thanks

    Many thanks for that.
I'm unsure whether it is a DSP problem...basically whats happening is that the DTMF tones are going astray when the AS5300 is busy, I'm unsure how to edit the DTMF settings on the box. So there's two things, firstly how would I be able to tell if it's a DSP resource that is faulty?? And also, where in the config can I manipulate the DTMF transport methods??
    Many thanks again

I read the help guide, but I dont quite understand this.

VWIC3-2MFT-T1/E1 is the card that will allow you to connect 2 seperate E1 circuits to it.
PVDM3-32 will allow conversion from TDM (E1) to voip, depending on which codec you are going to use each call will either use 1 PVDM channel (low/medium complexity i.e. G711), or 2 channels (high complexity, i.e. G729R8).

  • Codecs on DSP resources

    Hi,
If I have a VG that has got 2 E1 ports connected to the PSTN, 30 channels each. With a PVDM2-64, i should be able to make 60 x G.711 calls right? (since I'm limited by the 2 x E1 ports)
Now, if i have a bunch of phones on the back of the VG and they are all configured to place calls with G.729a. Even though G.729a takes less bandwidth per call, the transcoding should be more processing intensive, right? So how many simultenous calls can the VG send out with a PVDM2-64?
    Thanks

You can support 8 medium complexity codec (g.729) calls per DSP, so with the PVDM2-64 (4 DSPs), you could support 32 g.729 calls. Take a look at the following links. As was already mentioned, the DSP calculator is a fantastic tool.

  • ITunes and its support programs, iTunesHelper AppleMobleDeviceService.exe, are using up an excessive amount of system resource. What is causing this and how can I fix it?.exe and

iTunesHelper.exe and AppleMobiledeviceService.exe are doing some disturbing things:
-They are starting automatically on system startup,
-They are using excessive system resources (AppleMobileDeviceService.exe was using 50% of my CPU, and this without me plugging in a device or opening                              iTunes.),
-I cannot find them under the Programs Menu in Control Panel, meaning, I cannot uninstall them.
iTunes itself is using more system resources than I would expect. If these issues continue without a reasonable fix, I will have to consider iTunes to be malware and iTunesHelper.exe and AppleMobileDeviceService.exe to be trojans, and treat them as such.

Hey, nfcopier: ripping the executable and dynamic link library out by the roots is worth considering, thanks. It took me until tonight to find a thread similar to my own. For some reason Apple doesn't want to be known for its bloated, intractable software. W*T*F*, Apple? How hard is it conceive a pilot program which starts everything and shuts it off when it's not necessary? It's got to be do-able.

  • Latest software update is causing the dock process to use an abnormally high amount of system resources- what's going on?

After I installed the latest software update (updates that prepare some apps to run on OSX Lion), I'm noticing that the dock process is using 100% of my CPU when idle. This is causing my battery life to be 30 min at best. What's going on?

There is a conflict with Parallels and the latest update that causes this.  Update Parallels to the latest version and it will fix this.

  • Transcoder Configuration Router 3825

    Hello
I'm trying to setup a transcoder with Call Manager 6.1, but i have an issue when i try to setup the dspfarm-profile, in the maximun session the router doesn't have resources left. but the router has 64dsp install:
    PVDM Slot 0:
64-channel (G.711) Voice/Fax PVDMII DSP SIMM PVDM daughter card
    Also i have:

    controller T1 0/1/1
    framing sf
    linecode ami
    ds0-group 0 timeslots 1-24 type e&m-wink-start
The card are consuming only 48 dsp.
The version of the IOS: c3825-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T3.bin
    What could be the issue?
    Thanks

I would start by verifying that you've determining how many dsp resources you have available then go from there. Remember every 16 MB of pvdm memory equals to one DSP. More than likely if you're short of DSP resources you'll need to add another PVDM or increase the memory (replace).
If you type "show voice dsp group all". Find amount of "num_of_sig_chnls_allocated" make sure that the value of the channels allocated on at least one of your DSP resources is set to 0 (meaning its free/available to use). I've pasted an output from my router. On DSP 7 and DSP8 of my router, you'll see that 0 channels are used. (BOLD TEXT)

  • Resource unavailable on PRI link

    hi guys:
Recently our router show the following message:
    *Oct 18 23:11:51: ISDN Se1/0:15 **ERROR**: cdapi_process_connect_resp: cdapi sez
to reject the call (appl rejected?)
    *Oct 18 23:11:51: ISDN Se1/0:15 Q931: TX -> RELEASE_COMP pd = 8 callref = 0xBE9

    Cause i = 0x82AF - Resource unavailable, unspeci%fied
About 50% of the calls are failing. DSP
looks good. Any idea what might caused the issue? Thanks for help.
    regards

how many channels on the PRI are used for calls?
also, even though dsp's look good, double check the required amount. the total number would include the amount of dsp's required to operate the number of PRI channels in use as well as the number of dsp's required for any transcoding (or other services that would use dsp's such as conferencing)

  • Conferencing and Transcoder Resources in Campus Environment

This is my first time working in a campus environment, and have some questions regarding best practices especially regarding conferencing and transcoding resources.
The central office consists of several buildings, all connected via gigabit fiber. It houses a single CallManager Cluster, IPCC and Unity servers, and 2 2821 voice gateways. Each gateway has a connection PRI to the PSTN, and also a PRI to the legacy PBX.
The two remote offices (50 users) are located within one mile. Each office is connected to the main office via metro ethernet, but also has a 2821 with FXO ports to handle 911 calls. In addition, the 2821 has a Data T1 terminated on a 2821 at the central office. Routing is configured so all Voice VLAN traffic goes over the Data T1 rather than the Metro ethernet.
Due to the 1.5 MB limit on the data T1, calls to/from the remote offices use G.729. Calls in the same office use G.711.
My question is where conferencing and trancoder resources should be configured. Currently, all 2821s are configure as MGCP gateways in CCM, but none have conferencing or transcoding configured. Should I configure this on the 2821s in the central office and have the remote offices use them, or configure them on the remote 2821s as well? Keep in mind the remote offices do not have PRIs, just a couple POTS lines for 911 and SRST calls.

    John,
Usually if IPCC is in the mix without Transcoders, then IPCC ports are put into it's own Device Pool/Region with G711 to all. Even though at the HQ to Remote you might be running Device Pool/Regions with G729 in between. Check that to be sure.
Also later IPCC versions have the option of being installed with either G711 or G729, just to make you aware of the options. If you want to verify this in IPCC 4.x, goto AppAdmin/System/System Parameters and look for the installed codec.
As far as conferencing, my original recommendation was based on normal installs. I really didn't notice in your original post that you had limited PSTN access at the remotes. So this is going to come down to your total resources. Do you have limited WAN bandwidth? Do you expect more parties on the Conference Bridge to be remote PSTN or local IP Phones? Really its going to come down to your DSP resources compared to your WAN resources.
With all that being said, from your last post I would gather that your conference calls mainly are with more participants from the PSTN. So I would configure the 2821s at the main site with enough sessions to transcode my calls to IPCC. Then configure the remainder for conferencing. Then the DSPs in the remote I would configure for conferencing. The I would create MRG for the main site resources then another for the remote. Then create a MRGL for the remotes using the main site MRG then the remote MRG.
The reason I suggest this is mainly because you feel more calls will traverse the WAN if you have the remote site initiate it's conference with a local bridge. Most importantly you want to make sure you have enough for transcoding and worse case scenario if you run out of HW conf resources at the main site you can failback to the HW resources at the remote. Of course you should really try to trend this with CCM Perfmon, looking at stats like Location utilization and the conference bridges utilization.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks
    Fred
