Proper RAM installation/configuration
In the Apple manual they say to install RAM as follows:
1. Move the Apple module from the bottom card to the top (so that Apple RAM fills position 1&2)
2. Install the first additional pair on the bottom card to positions 1&2
3. Install the next pair on the bottom card in positions 3&4
However, an article at Bare Feats suggests a different approach:
"Though some of our configurations involved various size mixtures, we consulted with an engineer knowledgeable about the architecture of the "early 2008" Mac Pro. He suggested two things that may not show up in our benchmarking:
1. The pairs on the top riser (slots 1&2 or slots 3&4) should match the pairs in the bottom riser (slots 1&2 or slots 3&4) in terms of size if you want the maximum benefit to be gained by interleaving in real world applications.
2. The 2GB and 4GB FB-DIMMs are typically Dual-Rank (DR) while the 1GB FB-DIMMs tend to be Single-Rank. Ideally, you want all DR modules."
I decided to try the recommendation in #1, because I've been having the reboot from sleep issue and I hoped this might help. I have 4x2GB of TransIntl RAM. I installed the first pair in slots 1&2 on the top, the second pair in slots 1&2 on the bottom. Then I installed the Apple RAM in slots 3&4 on the top card.

However, since I did that I'm now having systemwide problems: spinning beach balls, apps quitting unexpectedly, and other strange "nonspecific" issues. My system was running flawlessly prior to the RAM switch (other than the "reboot from sleep" issue, which many others have too).
Could the RAM configuration suggested by the engineer above be causing these problems?
PRAM resets from a Restart and not the same as from cold boot.
Personally, I would favor TechWorks memory. They should work together, but also give you something else to rule out Trans related issue.
One person bought Crucial 1GB x 2 and it would only work when they mixed the two:
Riser on top had Apple and Crucial in slots 1 and 2, same configuration on bottom Riser. Goes against conventional logic/wisdom, but DIMM slot 1 is like "master" and sets the timing for #2.
With new memory, testing with just the new RAM is one way to insure it works properly on its own, or with just 2 x 2GB and then with the other pair.
Leopard Cache Cleaner includes Memtest. Coctail is just running the same script to repair permissions as Disk Utility and I switched to LCC (and once in awhile used Onyx) but stopped using Cocktail, a few bugs at one time and stopped upgrading.
The reason for PRAM/NVRAM reset is to rebuild the Device Tree to insure it loads the correct information. On a restart, NVRAM is not rebuilt.

When I started my installation for 9iAS database cache and Web cache configuration failed. But Portal 30 showed successfull . However there were some error messages dispalyed during the configuration of Portal30 as below:

Error while loading
org/w3c/dom/html/HTMLHeadingElement
ORA-29506 invalid query derived from using clause.
ORA-00942 table or view does not exist.
Error while accessing MD5 table.
When I did the other post installation configuration and tried to access the Portal30 home page error message as below was displayed :
call to WPG_SESSION failed.
error code 4068
Database login failed. TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address
supplied or destination is not listeneing.
The problem could be due to in correct TNS String or it may be due to Listener not started or due to underlying network.
I checked everything. Listener was started, TNS service name was correct (in the ORACLE_HOME of 9iAS \network\admin directory) and the underlying network was proper. DAD parameters were also correct.
However, when I checked the PWG_SESSION PACKAGE BODY status It was showing INVALID. When I checked the installation log..it showed error messages like table MD5 not found...
I am unable to configure my PORTAL30..Please help...or where can I get the solution...

I'm trying to solve this probleme for 1 month now.
Problem :
I'm trying to install the 30 days trial Premiere Elements 9 on my system : Win XP SP3 - with Windows Installer 4.5 (enough RAM/Disk space etc...)
Each time, I double click on the " SET UP.EXE", the install stops just after the language choice window, finishing its process by showing a Windows Installer configuration window providing unuseful information like this (it is in French) :

No way, still the same.
For information, Photoshop Elements 9 trial installation worked on my computer..
Please help if you can.

Access Content Server Pos-installation Configuration
Hello,
I am new with Oracle ECM, I am starting to use it for Webcenter requirements.
I have installed succesfully Oracle Content Server. I accessed http://localhost:16200/cs, and it showed me the post-installation configurations.
I made some changes and restarted the server. I then realized I had made some mistakes. How can I access the configuration screen again, and make some changes? Thank you.

That config screen does not show up a second time .
If you want to make modifications to the configurations then make them in<domain_home>/ucm/cs/config/config.cfg
After the changes are done UCM restart should be done .

Proper way to configure JDNI datasource
Hi all.
I'm a little bit confused about the myriad of ways to potentially configure a JNDI resource reference (in this case a datasource).
I'm using Tomcat 4.1 and Struts. It appears that JNDI references can be specified in the files:
Tomcat: server.xml and web.xml (for all apps)
Struts: struts-config.xml
App: web.xml
I'm trying to configure an Oracle Connection Pool DataSource using the OracleDataSourceFactory and OracleDataSource types. The question is, where is the resource properly specified? I've gotten it to work by putting code in the Tomcat server.xml file but that obviously ties me to Tomcat. If I put it in struts-config.xml that ties me to Struts, so what I'd like is the proper way to configure it in web.xml (which is supposed to be the same no matter which app server you drop the app into).
Anybody got any advice??

I think that your code is 100% portable, but the datasource isn't it. Because you need do a new connection pooling for every diferent server you have, and you can reference it from your code for use it. I don't know if you can export the server configuration to a file and then this file could be loaded in another similar server, the same way that you can do a war file and then you can deploy it in a new server.

ITunes 7.6 keeps running installation configuration on start
Whenever I start iTunes 7.6 the installation configuration box comes up.
It says: collecting the required information or something (my windows + itunes installation is in Dutch).
This happens every time I start iTunes.
Then when I go to the event viewer in Vista I see the following error message:

Reinstalling or repairing the installation does not help.
The problems started since iTunes 7.6, prior to that version I had never experienced that issue before.
I am also getting several information messages in my Event viewer:
The description for Event ID 1903 from source HHCTRL cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

Post-installation configuration interface not running
I've just installed Ops Center 12.1 on a new SPARC T4-1b running Solaris 11.
We are using a remote database hosted inside an Oracle Database Appliance. The installation went through entirely, and I'm at the point where I need to configure the application.
The problem is that the web GUI that is supposed to be running on port 9443 isn't running. (doesn't appear in netstat -an).
The instances bound to port 80 (the redirect) and port 443 exist -- but the rewrite sends me to the non-existent service running on port 9443, so I am stuck.

Mac Mini (mid 2010) horizontal screen flicker after new RAM installation
Hi, trying to help someone fix their mid 2010 mac mini here.
The model he bought came with 4GB of RAM; but he upgraded and put 8GB of RAM in. (the kingston variety KVR1066D3D4R7S/4GI 4GB DDR3-1066 I think)
Before the RAM there were no display problems, after installation small horizontal lines of flickering would appear around every minute or so. The screen is a Samsung 2333 Syncmaster connected via the mini display adaptor.
We've tried the display and adaptor in a Macbook Pro late 2008 and no problems so we think we've eliminated that variable. We've just gone through the screen calibration in Sys Prefs and we're still seeing if that's fixed it. We'll also try adjusting the refresh rate but we're doubtful.
Any ideas?Apple support advised me to use RAM sold by Apple ($400 for 8GB).
I have 2x4GB hynix modules (by the way I had hynix stock modules in my mini) and if I mix 4GB(not Apple) and 1GB(Apple) it works just fine. It's obvious that 2 different modules won't work in dual channel BUT Xbench shows no difference in performance in any configuration. I tested different configurations: 2x4GB(not apple memory), 2x1GB(stock modules), 1Gb+4GB(stock and non stock) all of them show very similar performance +/- 3%.
This mean that mac mini doesn't use dual-channel memory mode (( There's also a chance that Xbench shows wrong results regarding RAM performance but to me, it seems very unlikely.
