Proper tempreature on MBA 10' late

hey guys.
I have a MBA which is manufactured on 2010 late, I doubt about the proper tempreature when i use my MBA.
I hardly use a huge application like xcode, logic etc, and Safari, Quicktime Player, Chrome, Twitter is on running in common.
Oh yeah, i do use only those stuffs when i use my laptop.
So I'm assuming that the tempreature of my MBA has kind of weird degree.
I asked at MBP section about the increase of the tempreature when the MBA is on charge and they gave me an answer that it's natural when it's on charge.
I'm not asking you about the increase of the tempreature when it's being on charge, but i'm just wondering about the proper tempreature when i use only those stuffs on battery.
I use OS X Lion now and let me know your tempreature on running.
thanks.

I don't know there is such thing as "proper temperature". For to have one means that there has to be a standard of what constitutes proper use, or proper applications.
When I am gaming, or perusing websites that use a lot of flash, I routinely see 95-96 degrees C on my 13" 2011 MBA.
From what I see here on these boards, that's pretty "normal", or should I say "typical". Intel says as long as the processor runs below 100 degrees Celsius everything will be fine.
Some competing laptops will actually shut-down the system if they were running temperatures as high as Apple users are often seeing. Yet, I don't hear of heat related failures, despite these elevated temps. They sure cause a lot of discussion here on the boards, with people freaking out and using solutions like SMC to turn on the fan sooner, at a lower temperature in order to attempt to curb heating.
I would really like to Apple be a little more open about discussing this matter, and perhaps give their take. Should we stop using apps that run the processor at 96 degress C.??? I don't know.

  • MBA 13 (late 2020) and older Airport Express

Visiting a friend where I have installed an Airport Express way back and where I usually connect my MacBook generations, I found that my new MBA would not connect.
First, "cannot find any preferred network"
When selecting the adequate network, with the password from Keychain, I get "connection timeout"
Quitting, after some retries, I don't see my network at all.
Turning Airport off and then on again, I can again see my Network, but same procedure, even when I type the password instead of letting Keychain provide it.
Airport Utility coud not find the Airport Express, until connected via Ethernet and resetting the Airport Express would not help.
And - all the while my iPhone 4 worked wonderfully with the network through the same Airport Express...
Is there a version requirement for Airport Express when it comes to the latest MBA?
    Thanks for any input.

I just brought home my new 13 inch Macbook Air, and have been having horrible problems with the airport express. My setup is as follows:
Airport Extreme base station in the lower level.
Airport Express setup to extend the network on the main level, and plugged into audio system.
Airport Express setup to extend the network on the upper level with USB printer attached
Both Airport express are about a year old.
This has been working great with my 2 year old macbook pro and various iDevices for quite some time.
Now, the Macbook air will connect, but it gets horrible throughput, and it only keeps the connection alive for about 10 minutes before all network traffic stops. I can still see that it has an IP address, and normally renewing the DHCP lease will get me another 10 minutes. Sometimes I need to turn AirPort Off/On to get going again. I think I've been seeing a very similar problems with the pre-release iOS 4.2. Just upgraded to the released 4.2.1 so who knows...
Finally, in desperation I unplugged both Airport Express and have just been using the extreme, I get great speed and the connection has been completely reliable.
Any ideas on what might be causing the problems with the airport express??
    Thanks

  • MBA 13" late 2010--picky with reading clones from external hd's?

i have today tried to 'option restart' the mba, and then startup with an attached bootable usb hd.
my iomega prestige 1tb machine is recognised but won't startup..(i get the grey death screen when i attempt that), but my lacie 2tb quadra will startup ok.
they both have the identical clone on board. (it's of my 27" i7 machine)
apple care said to try putting a mba clone to the iomega drive and try to do the option startup again.
i did this and the iomega started up ok on the mba, showing the freshly done bootable clone of itself ok.
what i need is a hard drive that will reliably launch a bootable backup on the mba,
but that bootable clone needs to be of another machine..mbp, imac, mac mini, etc..
anybody have a portable hd that they know works with say a bootable clone of osx 10.6 from one machine
    and the latest mba's?

    many thanks kappy,
    the mba is 10.6.5.
    makes sense..
yeah i am currently trying to prove what you say is the case, by re-cloning my other 10.6.5 machines onto the various external hds i have, and seeing whether the mba reads them properly as bootable..
so far it's good with the fresh clone of the mbp we have here,
in a couple hours will try the fresh 27" i7 clone.
i tend to prefer factory made external hds and not fool around with aftermarket enclosures.
i'd imagine most lacie and samsung portable /desktop drives would be ok for bootable backups?
    thanks again

    Anyone can help me out?

Yes, it is indeed good news.
Leave your Testdisk display and start a new Terminal Window.
You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.
    Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets
    Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
P  (print the full list of parts)
    D  (delete)
    4  (part 4)
    N  (new part)
    4   (part 4)
421875712 - Start offset in bytes  (start point for Bootcamp part)
+68358137 (Size offset as opposed to End offset)
    0700     (Windows part type)
P           (print list of all parts just to see what changes will be made)
    W         (Write the new GPT)
Y           (Yes! really write the new GPT)
This will delete and re-write the GPT partition info for /dev/disk0s4.
Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 6. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers.
    Sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
    P  (Print list of parts)
    R   (Recover)
    H (chooses Hybrid)
Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4
    Y (Good for GRUB question)
    N (part 2 boot flag)
    N (part 3 boot flag)
Y  (part 4 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)
    W  (Write the new MBR)
Y    (Yes! write the new MBR)
    Reboot
This is an example for the second set.
Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y
Creating entry for GPT partition #2 (MBR partition #2)
Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N
Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #3)
Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N
Creating entry for GPT partition #4 (MBR partition #4)
Enter an MBR hex code (default 07): 07
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): Y
Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?
Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?
Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?
Test 4 - If Test 3 is successful, select Bootcamp and Click Restart.

  • Video out from MBA to non-HDMI television?

Hello, I'm sure this has been asked in the past, but . . . Is there anyway to get video that is streamed over Wifi to my MBA 13" late 2011 to connect to my circa 2003 Hitachi plasma TV without HDMI?
The TV is cabable of showing 780 HD video (I have an HD cable box), but right now I use component video cables from my cable box. Options would be some sort of Thunderbolt to component cable converter (if this even exists) or some way to connected a non-Wifi enabled TV to the Web. The TV has componet and composite inputs
Someone told me that the Wii will output to composite. True?

    Hi there.
Glad you are enjoying the wide variety of apps available on the App Store.
To connect your non-HDMI compatible television to your iPad, you may try using a component cable for iPad (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC917ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE) or a composite cable for iPad (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE).
While the VGA adapter will work if your television supports VGA, I am not certain of (and would not recommend) using an adapter.
Hope this helps, and good luck getting your problem solved. Let us know if you need any additional help.

  • What is the best way to move everything from one MacBook Air to another MBA

    I bought a new MacBook Air ( OS 10.6.4, 2.16 GHz, 4GB RAM) = MBA 2. I already have an old MBA (bought late 2009, OS 10.6.0, 1.86 GHz, 2 GB RAM) = MBA 1
Whenever I had to do a clean install of the MBA 1, I was able to successfully restore all the files and the same architecture of the HD by cloning the MBA 1's HD (onto an external drive) before doing the clean install, then sticking the external drive into the USB port and then using Migration Assistant (selecting other drive in the choices).
Another method I can use but haven't tried is by connecting the two MBAs together with an ethernet cable (I have ethernet adapters for the two MBAs) and then using Migration Assistant.
If I use this method, do I have to change anything in Network (in System Preferences) like this person did?
    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/macbook-air-diary-day-3-migration-assistance/125 3
So the questions I am asking are:-
    1) Which is the better method (faster, more fail-proof, simpler) for migrating?
External drive plugged into the USB port (with clone of the HD of the older MBA on it)
    OR
Networking the two computers with an ethernet cable
    2) If I use the networking method, do I have to change anything in Network?
    3) The MBA 2 had 10.6.4 already installed on it. I have used the MBA 2 a little bit, adding browsers and so on, but there is nothing there I want to keep.
Do I have to do a clean install (sticking the USB flash drive that came with the computer into the MBA 2 and then erasing the disk) before I use the Migration Assistant?
    OR
Can I just delete all the applications and files I have added since I started using the MBA 2, and then just start up Migration Assistant?
    OR
Can I just leave the MBA 2 alone and leave it as is and start Migration Assistant? Will the Migration Assistant write over everything that's currently on the computer? (I don't mind if it does.)
    4) Will it be a problem that the MBA 1 has 10.6.0 on it whereas the MBA 2 has 10.6.4 on it? Do I need to update the MBA 1 to 10.6.4 before I do the migration? (I'd rather not if I can avoid it. However, I plan to use 10.6.4 on the new MBA 2).
    Thanks for any replies.

If the clone is already made, that will be somewhat faster.
Can I just delete all the applications and files I have added since I started using the MBA 2, and then just start up Migration Assistant?
Your best bet is to erase the disk, install OSX from the USB stick, then use +Setup Assistant+ when the new Mac restarts. See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum).

    No.

  • Can the SSD in a MBA 4,1 work in a MBA 3,1?

I was considering upgrading the SSD in a MBA 13 (late 2011) and using the stock SSD in a MBA 11 (late 2010).
Any reason why this might not work - or should it work fine?
    Thanks.

Aside from the possible warranty issues, especially on the 2011 unit, the only caveat is that the stock 256 GB drive is a double sided SSD, and will not fit (thickness-wise) in the 2010 11" MBA. That is why the 2010 11" never had a factory 256 GB option using the stock drives.
I have seen people "cram" the 256 GB into the 2010 11", but it bows outward, and puts a bit of physical pressure on the memory chips underneath. They say "it works". I say it's crazy.

  • I killed my MBA.  i want to remove the SSD and remove the data.  Is there an adapter for the drive?

subject pretty much sums it up.
i need to remove the drive and pull the data from it using another pc.  is there an adapter, usb or otherwise, that fits that drive?
    Is it microsata?

  • LION killing my 5hours battery life of MBA

anyone out there notice the battery life is decreased since upgraded to LION?
i used to have 5hours or sometime 4hours if running flash in chrome before i upgrade to lion.
but now, i have only facebook and apple discussion on my chrome tab.
other programs which running now are msn messenger and activity monitor which i used to run it always.
my system memory reading is 260mb free   500mb wired  990mb:active and 293.2mb: inactive. total of 1.74GB:used. my computer ram is 2Gb.
if no solution or update in near future. i might revert back to snowleopard. wasted 29USD on a OS which im not satisfied.

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with my MBA 13" late 2010. I am curious who else has battery issues.
What I have done so far is:
    recalibrate the battery (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490)
resetted the SMC as suggested by John (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964)
What I was able to observe afterwards was the following:
When the MBA is idle the battery indicator says 12h running time which is the same as for Snow Leopard.
As soon as I use Safari, the time goes down. Right now, as I am typing this text, I have a running time of 6:15h with the battery at 96%.
Different programs consume different amounts of energy and it is possible that the new safari is better optimized for the new MBA. But this is just speculation until others have similar observations.
I look forward to other's experiences.

  • Connecting network cable to Thunderbolt display causes MBA to crash

When plugging my MBA into my Thunderbolt screen I noticed that it often causes my MBA to crash - very frustrating! I have since discovered that this only happens when my wired network lead is connected to the Thunderbolt display. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have checked the firmware for the monitor and it is apparently up to date. I would like to be able to use the wired network through the connection on the back of the Thunderbolt screen so it really is quite inconvenient.
    Thanks for any help/advice.

  • Satellite U300 connected to TV - Non supported video format

I am using Toshiba Satellite U300-15q and it has a vga output so i bought a cable and a box that transfers te analogue signal of vga to digital of hdmi so that i can connect it to my 32' TV Sony make.
But if i connect it it says on the tv in yellow letters non supported video format.
Why is that and how can i fix it ?

In the whole story problem is that you use third part hardware or software so this described issue has nothing to do with your Toshiba notebook or Toshiba in general.
On notebooks side is important that video signal is sent on proper way. What happen later and why this signal is not transformed correctly is matter of this box.
    Which box do you use?
In my opinion you should contact manufacturer of this box and their support. They should know how it works and how to fix this.
Generally speaking, Toshiba has nothing to do with this problem.

  • Can see contents of remote disk, but can't see it's contents

    Hi community.
My configuration: MBA 13" (late 2010) and a Win7 computer with a DVD drive. Done everything as described in this note: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1777
On MBA, I see the entry "Remote disk" on the sidebar, i see my Win7 PC in the list.
But when I expand it, the contents are empty (a dvd is inside and I can see it both by file sharing and by RDP on Windows)
What do I do wrong? Tx in advance

I can see the Windows PC, but I cant see the drive.
So I only can do a 'Get info' on the PC and it says 'PC server'

  • Almost new battery won´t charge, does not work on AC

After spending a few days in Taiwan (110V) the battery of my PB G4, A1138 won´t charge any more. Power connector lights amber.
After coming back to Austria, i connected the PB for 2 days and it would charge again and worked proper. Now, 2 months later, the battery again refuses to charge, coconut battery & system profiler say that there is no AC power connector & battery is not charging. It won´t power up with AC connected. I did the PMU reset and PRAM reset - no effect.
The battery is an original Apple replacement and has only 40 loading cycles. i´ve measured the voltage at the battery connector in the battery slot (3V & 6V depending on the pins), so the charger provides voltage.
Can anybody tell, if the DC-in board is faulty or if it´s the logic board or something else?
    I´m thankfull for any advice!

It's fairly common for the pre-MacSafe power connectors on the computer to loosen due to stress. The points where the barrel-shaped chrome connector assemble is soldered (or flowed) to the logic board lose contact and you get intermittent charing at best.
If you connect to A/C adaptor and gently wiggle it up and down, can y ousee charging start again/ "Up" is the position where the contact should again meet.
My 1Ghz 17" MBP will not start on A/C alone until the battery has a little charge. I don't know it's the dead internal backup battery (common) of something else that causes two good 65W power supplies to report in Profiler as 45W.

  • How to install Adobe cs5.5 ignoring case-sensetive issue, how to install Adobe cs5.5 ignoring case-sensetive issue

I am getting "case-sensetive drive not supported" when trying to install Adobe CS 5.5 !!!
    How to get over this??
How can I install CS 5.5 on my MBA 13" (Late 2010)
    if anyway failed, which CS will install good? (CS3 / CS4 / CS5 )???
    Help me Guys !!!

It sounds like your hard drive was formatted wrong.
    Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the drive (probably named Macintosh HD if it's your main or only drive)
At the bottom of the window, check the format. It should say Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
If it says Case-Sensitive, that's your problem. You'll have to reformat the drive to fix it.
If it's your main drive, that means you'll have to reinstall the OS after formatting.
