Proper use of "Version Name" field?
Guess I'm just not clear on what the difference between Version Name, Caption, and Title are? For example, If I change what's in the Version Name field in a way that several photos will have the same info, is that a conflict?
And why can't I display the "Caption" field with metadata in browser view?

Using Customized group name fields in Live Office
Hello everybody,
I've created a Crystal Reports based on a BEx Query and including a costcenter hierarchy. Now I want to add this report in Excel sheet via Live Office. I did this according to the official HowTos provided by Ingo Hilgefort. Now I've following issue. When I choose the data for the selected fields in Live Office, I could manage to insert the Live Office object into my report but the display of the cost center hierarchy nodes doesn't comply with the display in Crystal Reports. There I've defined a group with a customized group name field (costcenter.medium description) Live Office seems to use only the costcenter node ID.

Florianlive office uses web services to authenticate (dswsbobje) which depends on a java app server for kerberos to be enabled to login with AD. Is Infoview working with AD? This would be required. I'm not sure about your other issues.

Any way to stop facebook exporter from using version names as the caption
I tried the Aperture 3 facebook export and it is using the version names as the caption. If I change the caption on facebook it then changes the version name in my aperture library when it syncs with facebook. Is there anyway to have it use the caption meta data field instead? You would think if they had that option for mobile me they would have it for FB too.
Add me to the list of people interested by this issue - but AFAIK there is no way to change this. Let's hope Apple fixes this soon.

Facebook publishing uses Version name as description for Facebook uploads
Facebook publishing on Aperture 3 uses my Version name as the description on Facebook. Is there a way to keep it from doing that or change what metadata it uses for the description? I would love to be able to write a caption in Aperture and have that show as the description. Otherwise, I would like the description to be left blank on Facebook rather than putting the Version name.
I never found a fix for this. I also realized that if you ever delete the sync folder from Aperture, the pictures in Facebook will be deleted as well. So I've simply stopped using the Facebook publishing feature from Aperture. Now I'm back to the usual: export a folder of the images I want to upload, upload that folder to Facebook, and delete that folder after uploading it since I have the original file elsewhere.

Import iPhoto Title as Aperture Version Name?
QUESTION: How do you import your iPhoto library such that the Titles you've applied in iPhoto become the Version Names in Aperture?
DETAILS: Upon import, Aperture ignores my custom iPhoto Titles ("Lunch at Summit", for example) and replaces them with the original file name (DSCF2966, for example). I hate looking at a screen full of DSCxxxxx names. Worse, I've spent a lot of time titling my pictures in iPhoto. I don't want to lose that work.
BACKGROUND: In iPhoto, I typically Batch Change a just-imported set of photos, setting the Title to nothing. Then I give meaningful names to pictures that I care about titling. This way, I reduce visual clutter on the photo display; any title text I see is there because I typed it in. When I try this trick in Aperture, it displays "<untitled>" for any pictures I remove the camera's DSCxxxxx from.
QUESTION 2: Is it a bad idea to get rid of the camera DSCxxxx Version Names?
I've experimented with the Import settings, searched these forums, the web, and the Aperture help files, to no avail.

David LongKirby, thanks for your helpful response. I just experimented with the Version Name field in the iPhoto import dialog and found that setting Version Name to Version Name in the
File-->Import-->iPhoto Library...
import dialog still does not preserve the Titles from iPhoto.
However, using
File-->Import-->Show iPhoto Browser...
DOES preserve the iPhoto Titles. Unfortunately, this method loses much of the Places information in the iPhoto library. I describe which Places info gets lost in this forum post:

So, this leaves us with a conundrum:
-If we use the "Show iPhoto Browser..." method to import, we retain our Titles but lose our Faces and Places data.
-If we use the "Import-->iPhoto Library..." method, we retain [most of] our Places and Faces data, but completely lose our Titles from iPhoto.
Either way, we lose some of the metadata work we put into our iPhoto library.
Anybody know a solution to this problem?

Song Name Field Not Showing up when Ipod connected to ITunes
I have one of the first IPOD's (15GB). When connected to ITunes and I click on music to see my whole list, it does not display the "song names". I've been through all the help screens, and they say to "check mark" the song name field. When you bring that up, there is NO choice for song name field. My wife also has the same IPOD and it displays the song names just fine...also without an available choice for song name. I have found a work around and that is bringing up the Get Info on a song and copying the name over to the "sort name" field, which there is a choice to display that. However typing this on every song is way to long as I have 3,000 songs in there. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks!That's what I thought also, but when expanding the window, it still doesn't show. However on 2 older playlists, when I first got it, the name column shows, but not on the "master list" of all songs, and also not on new playlists.
When I connect my wifes IPOD, same one, it shows up on every playlist and the master. I have had this issue for about 2 years through different Itunes versions. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that when I first got the IPOD I used "music match" instead of Itunes? Or it could just be an issue with the IPOD. I've resisted doing a restore and wiping everything out as I've switched desktop computers and quite a few of those songs are not on my hard drive. I can work around it, but it's a hassle.
I just figured out how to make the song name show, but using the "sort name" field, but now I'm wondering if there is a way to copy the name to the sort name field in a mass conversion instead of doing it one by one. -
Keyboard shortcut for shifting focus to the version name?
i'm trying to go through and quickly give each pic a version name, is there a quick way to jump from the pic to the info palette where the version name is? can't seem to find a keyboard shortcut for that.

So that it highlights Version Name in the input field in the Metadata Panel?
I don't know of any that would move to the next photograph and at the same time highlight the Version Name field.
Command Option m
will get you to the Management Layout
Hit w to close the Projects Panel and then hit i to open the Inspectors. From this layout you can use the arrows to manuever through the photographs in the Browser but you will still need to select the Version Name input field to add metadata.
Should you have a ton of images you can use j k l (up, stop, down) to scroll through them. You can also use a ShuttlePro v.2 and modify the keys on it to make keyboard shortcuts for Aperture.

Resource name field for target oracle table
Hi,
I want to build a generic interface that takes data from different similar structured flat files and loads to different target table (similar structure).
I thought I will use the resource name field for both source and target and use variables to determine the source and target names during runtime.
the problem is it runs fine at the source when i change the file names to load from but it fails at the target when i use variable to determine the target name.
Did anyone try this earlier? if yes, can you please help? The error I got was 911 : 42000 : java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00911: invalid character
and the query generated was

When I ran the following EJB QL:

It is basically complaining that I have a field

Frustratedcmr field which is "category" in ur mapping , u can't use as cmp field in abstract schema mapping. just remove category from cmp field . and every thing is fine

Aperture 3.1 uses Facebook captions as Version Names
Not sure whether this has happened due to the u/g to 3.1, but while still running 3.0.3 I exported a set of photos to Facebook.
By default, the Caption shown in FB is the filename (version name).
*In FB* I edited the captions but now Aperture is using those captions as the version names of the original photos (i.e. in the Projects, not just in the Facebook albums).
This is not good, since I now have several photos with the same version name!!!!
Is the the expected behaviour? I can't find a pref that affects it.

It appears that you are correct in your assertion that Apple (Aperture) does not adhere to the IPTC standard for image metadata. Ad Mr. Riecks points out, this should be of major concern for anyone using Aperture as their image warehouse and then exporting their images out to anyone who does adhere to the IPTC standard as some of your most important data (inclusive of location, identification, rights use, and copyright - aka IPTC Core in Aperture) are essentially lost.
Very disappointing indeed! Failure to adhere to industry standards are the primary reason I stopped using Windows products and made the migration to Apple.
Hopefully Aperture will address this in coming releases to include the extraction of Faces data into the IPTC 1.1 Extension Description structure "Person Shown" with an option to extract the Faces data into the IPTC1.1 Extension Models structure "Model Shown" fields. -
I am using referenced images, saved on an external hard drive. It would be most helpful to transfer the new captions (version name) to the referenced images which still have the camera code on them. How can this be done? Thanks so much!
You're question is hard to follow. Are you looking to rename your master files to the version name? Or are you looking to do something with IPTC caption field and the masters?

In Windows 7 using Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07) was able to copy an item (name, number, date) and paste in another document. In Windows 8.1 using same version of Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07) not able to do this. Any solutions?
With computer running Windows 7 using the curser can select an item, then right click and select copy. With computer running Windows 8 there is a hand instead of a curser therefore unable to select an item, therefore unable to copy. Is there a way to have a curser rather than the hand?
Eureka!!! Just found by right clicking on the hand can then select “Select Tool” and then copy. Hurray!!! -
I am receiving this error when syncing my ipod: iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPod "name" because an unknown error occurred (-50). I am using iTunes version 10.6.3.25. Why?
Right click the filename that won't download and selsct 'Get Info'. Look at the file path, does it have a //?// in it? That is a problem with Amazon downloads that prevent iTunes from finding the file. Use 'Add Folder' to add the album to your library and try syncing it again

Why can't I use tilde (~) in the site name field?

I have my Web page in an external Web server and I use iWeb to edit this page (the editing is made locally on my laptop and exported afterwards). In addition, my Web server demands that my root page is "/~tfioreze".
In iWeb, my site name field is "tfioreze". However, since I'm trying to use some RSS files, I need to change now the site name into "~tfioreze". The problem is that iWeb does not allow me to include the tilde (~) in the site name, and as a result, my RSS files cannot be found because the path is incorrect in the Web server .
My question: how can I somehow include the tilde in the site name field in iWeb?

What exactly is the "Version Name" to be used for?

I just picked up Aperture and have been trying to figure it out. And to be honest, I'm pretty darn OCD about photo organization - which is one reason Aperture appealed to me more than iPhoto, which I've been using forever.
So I've literally been going around tagging all 4000 photos I've imported, but I'm wondering what the "Version Name" is supposed to be for. I've been told this is very important for when you create new versions from the master, that they should all be different. However the majority of my photos are just old high school photos and whatnot that I could care less about touching up ever.
So then what exactly should I do with the "Version Name"? Is this supposed to be a specific name (such as, "dan at the beach, edited", etc) or should I just called them something like "original" or "master"? Does this affect the actual filename? What is the general usage of this?it's basically the name of the photo. it's the name/title that will appear in your albums, books, etc. if you have more than one version of a photo, you might use different names to distinguish them; eg, adding 'B&W' for black and white versions, etc.

E71 - reset lock code - please help
Hello everyone, i have a problem with my phone, my Nokia E-71. What happen was that i change my lock code back to 12345 and when the phone was lock and i had to put in the lock code to unlock it and i put in 12345 and it said Code Error. So i tried a

I'm encountering some sites that don't support Safari so I have to download Firefox. But I use Mac OS 10.5.8 and so I'd need an earlier version than the one available on your site for download. Can you help?
