Proper way to delete a domain?

First let me apologize if this has been answered many times.. but i did search through the forums and could not find the info i need.
I have successfully removed all users (cals and PAB) entries for a domain. Now i want to remove the domain from the server.
I have used the following commands.. and they complete successfully.. no errors...
commadmin domain delete -D user -w password -d domain
commadmin domain purge -D user -w password -d domain -g 0
Both succeed.. but when i do a msuserpurge -v -d domain
i still see the domain.. and if i ldapsearch for the domain.. i still see the top entry o=domain etc.
I notice that the mailDomainStatus is still showing "active"
I can ldapmodify the mailDomainStatus to "removed" but not sure if this will then allow the purge command to totally remove the domain?

the domain i am trying to remove is not the default domain.

thank you Jay. Was going to patch.. but found a note from you about a bug in the latest patch.. so was gonna wait till the next patch rev. came out. think it was something to do with a session problem.
So if i manually ldapdelete the o=domainname entry.. that should be fine right? I do not see an sub entries for the domain left over. Or any users/groups.

My old PC bit the dust but I was able to get my files and CS3 onto an external hard drive, but I've been informed that using it in this way is not a good idea. There is no charge. That just means CS3 can be activated on a maximum of two computers.
First install and try to activate. If that works you are good to go.
If not, read this help doc and contact Adobe to reset activations.

What is the proper way to delete video transitions and restore clips?

I guess this is a two parter.. In the case where you overlap two clips and add a cross-fade, etc., and when you butt two clips together and do a 3D-spin, etc. I am talking about when you are long past using Command-Z to backup. I'd like to restore adjacent clips to their original state before overlaping and/or adding transitions.

well, i can think of the best way to restore if you think you're gonna get into a transition heavy sequence.
duplicate your cuts only sequence and add transitions to your duplicate. i often create duplicate sequences and than add a word or two as well as the date as an identifier. when i'm done with the project, i delete the unused sequences or keep them around if i think i may reuse something.
otherwise, what is wrong with just selecting the transition and deleting?

Proper way to delete my time machine backups?

I am new here, but have used the communities to solve issues with my macs.
I have a question about Time Machine. I have a macbook pro that I have backed up with time machine for over two years now. It works fine.
I just bought an imac and want to use the disk I was backing up the macbook to backup the new imac instead. I have another disk I am going to use for the macbook. I do not have Time capsule. It is all cable connections.
So my questions are:
1- Can I move the TM files from the old disk to the new one? How do I do that so that TM will not complain that the old back is missing on the macbook?
2- Once I get that done, should I format the disk before I start using it with the imac?

The answer is yes, but it may not be a great idea.
The way TM works is fairly complex and corruption fairly easy.. unfortunately you tend not to know about it until you actually need the backup. It is a much better idea to archive the backup up to the present time. And start a fresh TM backup on the disk.
In my testing though, I did copy the sparsebundle from a TC to a NAS with TM ability. Then reset the TM to using the existing TM backup directory on the NAS, and it picked up and used the old sparsebundle and worked fine. To trust it, which you will note I don't readily do.. I would still do a restore to a different target disk. Try it yourself.. since you are playing around and you can easily use the disks you have. Try doing a restore of whole disk.. it is a great exercise in how long this takes.. obviously use a different target disk. Start it when you go to bed as it can take several hours.

HDD are cheap btw.. just buy another and archive the existing one. In a year or two and you have never needed anything from it, and you have current backups.. then wipe and reuse it.. but I found keeping old hard disks from previous computers (or backups) as long term archives has got lost files back where nothing else worked.
2- Once I get that done, should I format the disk before I start using it with the imac?

Yes, I would always format before using.. issues on a disk will show up. But note the above if this is wiping your old backups.. think hard about the value of not just buying another drive.

Proper way to delete 10.5 mail accounts and shared folders

I have always used the procedure written by Ben Masters that is available at topicdesk.com for my 10.4 servers, but I have a 10.5.8 server that needs some spring cleaning and I am wondering if this is safe for a 10.5.8 box as well?
I also have several Shared Folders that are the same on all users of my mail server that I didn't put there. 1. How do these get there. 2. How do I delete them. 3. How do I set these up for a client if requested.

Yes, this will work on 10.5.x as well. Although using SirAdmin is much easier.
SirAdmin can also be used to manage Shared Folders.

Running SQL on a domain controller is highly not recommended for performance reasons and for complexities it introduces in the management of both systems (You are already facing this situation now).
I would recommend proceeding like the following before demoting your domain controller:
Install a new SQL server on a member server
Migrate your databases to the new SQL server
Once done, you can safely demote your DC.

What is the correct way to delete a global login item?

I installed a ArcSoft app that added a global login item to the files:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist
/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
I want to remove this item and would like to know the correct/proper way to do this.

In the system.log I'm seeing the following after I renamed the /Library/Application Support/ArcSoft/Connect Service folder:

Been thinking about this for awhile, but thought it best to ask the people who really know what they are doing.
What is the proper way to record & show line numbers in a Master / Detail record set?
For example, take Master/Detail relationship Orders and OrderItems. Orders has a column Document_Number and OrderItems has Document_Number, Line_Number. Line_Number should contain the row number 1,2,3,4 ... etc. for each row in a document.
Should I ...

The line number of the OrderItems table is the second half of the primary key. The first half of the primary key (DocumentNumber) is the foreign key to the Orders table.
Think of it like line items on an order or invoice. For example, if you were talking to someone on the phone concerning an invoice, you might say, "The pricing for line item #3 is incorrect." In this case, it's good to have a common reference. Or imagine a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with no row numbers displayed! You'd never get anywhere if you had to explain something over the phone.
If this is tricky to perform, I take it using a sequence and trigger such as the Fusion Order Demo is the best way to approach the challenge for simplicity's sake?

I've found that, when programming the NI PXI-4110 that, if a the VI "niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI" (NI-DCPower pallette) is called with a device
alias that all ready has one or more sessions open (due to an abort or other programming error) a device reference results from the reference out that has a (*) where "*" is post-fixed to the device reference where and is an integer starting that increments with each initialize call. In my clean up, I would like to close all open sessions. For example, let's said the device alias is "NIPower_1" in NI Max, and there are 5 open sessions; NIPower_1, NIPower_1 (1), NIPower_1 (2), NIPower_1 (3), and NIPower_1 (4). A simple initialize or reset (using niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI, or, niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI, etc.) What is the proper way to close all open sessions?

When you Initialize a session to a device that already has a session open, NI-DCPower closes the previous session and returns a new one. You can verify this very easily: try to use the first session after the second session was opened.
Unfortunately, there is a small leak and that is what you encountered: the previous session remains registered with LabVIEW, since we unregister inside the Close VI and this was never called. So the name of the session still shows in the control like you noted: NIPower_1, NIPower_1 (1), NIPower_1 (2), NIPower_1 (3), and NIPower_1 (4), etc.
There may be a way to iterate over the registered sessions, but I couldn't find it. However, you can unregister them by calling "IVI Delete Session". Look for it inside "niDCPower Close.vi". If you don't have the list of open sessions, but you have the device name, then you can just append (1), (2) and so forth and call "IVI Delete Session" in a loop. There's no problem calling it on sessions that were never added.
However - I consider all this a hack. What you should do is write code that does not leak sessions. Anything you open, you should close. If you find yourself in a situation where there are a lot of leaked sessions during development, relaunching LabVIEW will clear it out. If relaunching LabVIEW is too much of an annoyance, then write a VI that does what I described above and run it when needed. You can even make it "smarter" by getting the names of all the NI-DCPower devices in your system using the System Configuration or niModInst APIs.

Proper way to make bulk changes the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for my existing subscriptions, ExtensionSettings

We are going through with an upgrade/migration to SSRS 2012 and moving everything to a different domain. We have about 200 active subscriptions running, the reports are being delivered to a file share. What is the correct way, in bulk, to change
the OwnerId, the Path and the FileShare Username password credentials for these subscriptions? I see these values are being stored in Subscriptions > ExtensionSettings. I see that the file share path and Owner wouldn't be a problem to change,
but since I see the file share credentials are encrypted I would not be able change them directly in ExtensionSettings. Anyone know the proper way to change the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for my existing subscriptions without having to
change each one of them manually in the report manager?
Note: Reporting Services Native upgrade from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2012.

Based on my understanding, you want to change the Owner ID, Path and file share credentials for all existing subscriptions.
In Reporting Services, the subscription information are stored in the Report Server database. In your scenario, you can go to report server database and run the query to list all the subscriptions, then modify the owner and fileshare paths in the subscriptions

the file share credentials for subscriptions, you can run the query provided by

"After you convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk, you cannot change the dynamic volumes back to partitions. Instead, you must delete all dynamic volumes on the disk and then use the
Convert To Basic Disk command. If you want to keep your data, you must first back it up or move it to another volume. "

You can try to backup the dynamic volume via Windows Server Backup then restore it to a new basic VHD file ( the space is recommended to be larger than or equal to the old one ) .

Proper Way To Roll Back CF Update

I've recently installed CF security APSB12-06. Doing so has somehow or another broke all of my web apps and their session functionality...I need to roll back this security update. The installation instructions had me back up the files that I was replacing/updating, and I still have these files/folders available.
So, I was wondering: what is the proper way to roll back a CF update or security fix? From what I understand, I can remove the .jar file in {ColdFusion-Home}/lib/updates, and then replace my CFIDE and WEB-INF folders with my backup versions. I was wondering if there was anything else I needed to do.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that there was a jar file in the ColdFusion\lib\updates folder, which I deleted when I installed the APSB12-06 update. I cannot entirely recall, but I think it was a jar file ending in -00004.jar, as is the format for the updates, indicating which series of updates you have installed on your computer (at least that's what I take from it...). Can you advise what I should I do if there was a jar file in there previously? In hindsight, I probably should have backed this file up as well...

If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. Are you referring to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com emails? Or some other email providers emails?
If the former, it should do that automatically. If the latter, no. iCloud does not (nor is it supposed to) sync non-Apple provided emails.
