Properties of duplicate or copied slides

I have copied slides within the same project but I would like
the properties to be unique to that slide. It seems when I add or
delete an item from the library the change occurs to the copied
slide too. How can I seperate the properties? I have renamed the
slides as well thinking that would eliminate the issue. No
luck.

Just curious... why would you want to delete resources from
the Library when they are still in use? The obvious answer to your
problem is simply to not delete anything from the Library unless
the Usage count is zero.
That said, there is no way to "copy" slides uniquely within a
given project.
By copying slides in the same project, your new slides share
all the same objects from the original slides, such as background,
inserted images, and so on. This sharing of resources is by design
to keep the published file size as small as possible.
The fastest option to achieve what you're looking for would
probably be to save a copy of your project, then use File ->
Import to "copy" in the slides you need.
Since the objects are coming from an external project,
Captivate *should* create duplicates of everything.

When I duplicate or copy slides, my custom theme images turn into big grey boxes with an 'x' through them and a question mark in the middle in their new destination. When I go look at the master slides, I see that there are now two sets of masters, one for the my custom theme and a new one just like it, but with no images.

OK, got it ... the Power ON Factory reset procedures might have changed with GB ...
To get to a Factory reset using the Power up method:
1. Power Off phone
2. Press & Hold the HOME Button
3. Press and Hold the Power ON button.
You come up to the Triangle with the Exclamation mark & android guy.
Press BOTH the Up and Down Buttons at the same time. This brings up the Blue menu of options.
use the Up/Down arrows to scroll thru the choices. Press the POWER Button to Select the menu item you choose.
You can harmlessly test this and just choose to Reboot without doing anything, just to see how it works in case you ever need to do this in the future.
edit: It was concluded in the test group that they changed this process to align it with the new DX2 as the camera button isn't hard-wired like it is in the DX. So likely they just wanted to make this process the same for both platforms. At least it sounds like a good reason...

Captivate 4 Shuts Down ("Crashes") When Trying to Create, Duplicate or Copy Slide

I have 100% sympathy for you...and others that suffer this same "crash" situation.
I also have suffered at the hands of Adobe from this situation, and it took 4 weeks (yes 4 weeks), before Adobe was able to offer any sort of help.
I started with the Forum but despite lots of good suggestions - nothing worked. At same time I was in contact with Adobe Tech Support (I use the word "support" lightly) and if you have not already found out...they were less than helpful.
It was not until I made so much noise (threat of contacting consumer groups, trade press etc) that eventually a real person from Adobe contacted me, someone who understood I was a customer and I needed help, and they helped me resolve the problem. It was like a breath of fresh air. Adobe sent me two .dll files (BusinessRules.dll and QuizBusRules.dll) that I had to use to replace existing files in to Captivate4 programme and so far, touch wood, no problems.
Apart from the diabolical "support" (or lack of it), from Adobe's Tech Support and apparent way Adobe shuns away from real help or support for their customers, and as long as Adobe continue rely on this excellent forum to deflect the problems away from themselevs, I regret I (and maybe you and others) will have to suffer whatever level of support Adobe care to throw at us.
I got the distinct impression Adobe know there is a problem within Captivate 4 that causes these crashes, but have got their heads so far...in the clouds...way above the people that count, their CUSTOMERS, you will struggle to get anything from Adobe themselves.
I am not a technical person, so cannot offer any help in that department, but as a consumer that has to work with Captivate and having suffered at their hands, here is what I suggest - as it seems the only way -
1. Follow the good help and guidance from this Forum... but at the same time
2. Make as much noise as possible via any Adobe communication channel you can find....Seems the wheel that squeeks gets the oil....

The permissions are fine, and I have trashed the finder plist and reset the NVRAM.

Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
- make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
- do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
- perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
- make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
- after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.

Hi, thank you!
For example when I work in Nuke, and press "option" (for navigation), after I will release the "option", selected node will be duplicated.
The same issue, but with copying happens when I'm working in blender and hold the "option" to navigate - I see the message "copied selected objects to buffer".
Maybe it's some additions to the finder, which I could set a long time ago? In any case, how to fix it?

Do you mean a digital photo frame? If so You probably need jpeg files, PSE only outputs the slideshow as a wmv or PDF file. But you can use File >> Export As New
Then make some copy jpegs and copy or drag them to the SD card.

Thanks so much Sherry, for the much needed advice. Ah, but we do tend to get into the hard stuff first, don't we. Heard of Occam's Razor? Simply put, the simplest explanation to any problem tends to be the right one. With William of Occam's theory in mind, I clicked on the keychain menulet and dragged down to "Open Keychain Access" once more, only this time with a different goal in mind. To CHANGE SETTINGS FOR KEYCHAIN... There was my problem, big as life. "Lock after (5) minutes" was checked, as well as "Lock when sleeping." I had seen all my other prefs changed, don't know why I expected this one to have stayed the same. A couple of boxes quickly unchecked, clicked SAVE, and then I put the computer to sleep. On awakening, you guessed it, the keychain stayed open just as it should. After looking and thinking so hard, what a simple fix! But as always I learn some new tricks with every problem. Thanks for taking the time to help! (And by the way, I did take your advice. Booted from install disk and verified the volume. All is well.)

How To Copy Slides without Losing Object Properties

Because I was working in a corrupt file, I had to copy and paste my slides into a new project.
After doing this, I see that my click boxes, captions, and other objects lose their properties (including Item Name, "On Success: Show" instructions, timing, etc.)
Is there any way to copy and paste slides into a new project without losing this critical piece of each slide?!

I had a similar problem when I first started using Captivate. I was able to copy the objects while maintaining the properties by exporting all
objects from the corrupt source files to a new project.

Can slide shows from PSE8 be copied to DVD?

Yes, but not directly. Elements can make a data dvd, but not a video dvd. You need to save the slideshow as a WMV file then use another program (premiere elements, whatever software came with your dvd burner) to create the proper directory structure if you mean you want to make a video dvd that will play in a regular dvd player.

Getting error in CPDBObjectWriteUtils.cpp while copying Slides

Hi all, not sure if I'm being cruel and unusual for trying to copy 100 Slides but I am getting the following error when I did. Not sure if there's an answer but it might be of interest to the Captivate Developers to see this error message,

Try copying over 5 or 10 slides at a time and see if that solves the issue. It may be that your machine doesn't have the resources to do such a large copy. Or it could also be that one of your slides is corrupted and missing a component, meaning that when you try to copy it, this message appears. If you copy over a few slides at a time you'll probably get this message again when you reach the problem slide. Then you can eliminate it.

Best method to copy slide audio to new project ?

I have a project made up of multiple slides.
Each slide has its own audio.
I need to update the project (resize and update slide images) but the audio does not need to be changed.
Rather than record the narration for each slide again, I am planning to copy the audio of each slide from the old project (export) to the new project (import). Audio of slide 1 of old project gets attached to slide 1 of new project etc.
Any suggestions as to the best way to do this bearing in mind I have multiple slides each with their own audio and I need to ensure I attach the right audio file to the new version of the slide it was copied from.

Hi Noel,
Can only explain what would be my method in that case. All audio clips will be found in the library, but they have a not very descriptive name. I would identify them and change the name (if they have to go to the same slide number, just put the slide number in it). Then in the new project I would open the old as an external Library (File, import, external library) and drag the audio clips to the proper slides. External libraries are so little known, but I use them all the time (have a set of often used assets in separate project files that I only use as external libraries)

PS just did see the official answer from the staff, but please, rename your clips there as well or you will not be able to identify them. In the original file you can look for the clip in the Library from each slide

Cannot Duplicate or Copy Files

This is a repost as my issue is still unresolved.
I have a user using an Intel iMac with a server managed account. the account resides on the server. The iMac is running 10.4.9 and the server is running Server 10.4.9.
If she opens a directory on her desktop and tries to duplicate the file via Command-D she gets the error that "The operation cannot be completed because an item with the name "<insert any filename here>" already exists."
If she keeps hitting Command-D repeatedly the file will often eventually duplicate. There is no duplicate prior to her trying to make the duplicate.
Sometimes it works without an error. Usually not. I just deleted her account and recreated it, copying all her files back to her account via "cp -Rpv" in Terminal. I'm pretty certain it's not a permissions issue. I just ran permissions repair on the server. No change.
It seems like I've seen something on this but I cannot find it in the discussions. Any help is of course appreciated.

I am having the same problem where the I cannot duplicate the file and then the source file is deleted. Did you ever find out a cause / solution for this?

Captivate 7 - Copying slides with Advanced Actions

Hello,
I have a number of slides that I want to copy and paste into a new project. Many of these slides have click to display type advanced interactions. When I copy and paste the slides into a new project, the advanced interactions don't seem to copy over. Does anybody know how to copy and paste slides into a new project along with the advanced interactions so that I don't have to recreate variables and interactions? I tried following Adobe Captivate Help, but got lost.
