The help file says:
To preserve the element's proportions (its width-to-height
ratio) as you adjust its dimensions, Shift-drag the corner
selection handle.
When I SHIFT on the corner selection the HAND appears and not
the size change icon...what gives or doesn't give?
ALSO...I don't see the resize button on the properties:
Click the Reset size button in the image Property inspector.

That sounds like you're hitting the space bar, rather than
shift. Are
you saying you have the Free Transform Tool engaged on a
shape or symbol,
and you're hitting shift -- and *that's* when you see the
hand?

How to reduce size of image while uploading it in livecycle pdf.

Hi,
I have created a pdf with Image field using live cycle designer.
I have selected "Sizing: Scale Image to fit Rectangle".
Now the problem is the pdf which i have created is 1.5MB and if i import or upload a 2.5MB image in image field then the size of pdf becomes 6MB.
I have around 20 image fields in my pdf report , so if people keep uploading high resolution images in the pdf then the pdf becomes more then 15MB, slow and unmanagable.
Is there any way by which even if I upload a 5MB image the it should automatically reduce image size?
As the users does not bother to reduce the size of image they just upload high resolution and large size image in pdf.
Please tell me the way through which i can reduce the image size automatically while uploading.

My situation, lots of pics, most ~5mb in size, most now do not need that high a quality, and in need of reducing disk space usage. Is there an application or a technique within Aperture, that will allow me to select images and then have those images reduced in size, say from 5mb to 2.5mb?

Well if those images are not important and it is unlikely you would want to do anything other than look at them, then why not grab an external drive and relocate the masters there and leave them at home.
That way you free up space but still have the generated previews in the library to take with you. You can control the quality of the previews in the preferences and then force Aperture to generate the previews again from the masters with the new settings by selecting the photos in question in the browser and holding the option key after bringing up the context menu.
Combined with ratings for example, you could then make low-res, highly compressed previews for the unrated photos, go back and change the preferences and make progressively higher quality previews for the higher rated photos, culminating in full-res, high quality previews for the 5 star photos.
That's the way I'd do it.

So I use class Robot to make a screen capture and send it via UDP.
However this is still too slow, my question is: is there some library to compress the size of byte array or Image?

I want to draw an image in particular width and height, for example that image has original size (300,300) but i want some time that image in (200,200) size and some time that image should draw in (100,100) size . how to do this ??

Check in System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing and see if Zoom is turned on. If you have toddlers or cats this can accidentally turned on by hitting a group of keys that include Option + Command + 8.
To prevent this being accidentally activated in the future go to SystemPreferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Universal Access and uncheck all the boxes.

One page displays as negative image when saving PDF to reduced size in Preview

I have a multi-page PDF I'm trying to save to a reduced size.
The document was constructed of separate pages, some of which were created as Photoshop PDFs in Photoshop CS4 and others were saved as PDF's from Word. After moving over the individual PDF's to the side bar, the document saves fine in Preview at full size. When I use the quartz filter to "Save As" "Reduced File Size" one page saves as a negative image and the others are all fine.
One suggestion I saw in a similar thread was that the mode in PS might be CMYK, however it is not and it is RGB.
Any help as to solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. Build an Automator workflow using the PDFs > Render PDF Pages as Images action.
Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.
If the desired final output is multi-page PDF, no need to go through all that. You can do the task in Acrobat Pro (PDF Optimizer), or in Preview (Save as > PDF > Quartz Filter). If the current Reduce File Size filter doesn't provide satisfactory quality, use ColorSync Utility to duplicate it (or make a new filter from scratch) and adjust it to fit your needs.

Better you can use Canvas class and using drawImage() function you can show the image. Before that you have to Get the maximum size of your phone screen using the following:
x = (width/2) - (image.getWidth()/2);
y = (height/2) - (image.getHeight()/2);

Just save the document to a new jpeg file name using a lower quality setting or re-size the image down in size the save a high quality smaller new jpeg image.

Does someone knows if there is a way to reduce the size of the PDF file with good quality even on Pictures and Scanned documents? I know the option 'export', 'quartz filter' 'reduce size', but the compression is so extrem. Many files can't not been read, the quality is so bad. Is there a additional app, software or extension that let the user play with the compression on pdf files and let it be more personalized like the dopdf V7 available for windows? i am very dissapointed with this. I have used the excellent PDF Toolkit app for a while, and its preformed well. Occassionaly it makes the document into a negative image...which Im noyt sure why...

A TRICK i use often. Once all hires images are on the designed document - and its coming in at 15-20mb, just change the link to the images so they are 'missing' then make a pdf.
i.e 'Hi Res images' to HRes images - old'
The screen resolution of images is still great, but file comes in at fraction of the size.
You 'trick' the document to use screen images only. So my 18mb file comes in as 5.2mb.
Just remember to change the images folder name back, so files relink.

Using Save As Reduced Size PDF in Adobe Acrobat X Pro results in a loss of font.

We have multiple paged PDF documents (mapbooks created with Esri's ArcMap) that we would like to reduce in size. When we us the Save As Reduced SIze PDF, the PDF is successfully reduced in size and looks good, except for the fact that starting on page 2, the Times New Roman font is lost and we get a sans-serif font instead (looks like arial). The first page is always fine and not affected. It's starting with the second page where the font is lost. Does anyone have an idea of why that might be happening and how we can use the Reduce File Size feature without losing the font starting on the second page?

Thanks Bill, that worked after some trial and error. I was still getting the same problem when I just accepted the default settings for PDF Optimizer. But I got rid of the problem by creating a Custom setting and turning off the optimization for everything except Image. And for the Image optimization, I just accepted the defaults. That took care of the changing fonts problem. Here is a screenshot of the settings I used (just make sure the check boxes circled are turned off, and only the image compression is turned on):
