Proportional scaling issue in CS6

Hi all - I've hit a problem with the 'Fit Content to Frame' button. I must confess, I never use this, but occassionally hit it by error when I meant  "Fit Frame to Content".
The problem is that if you DO use it, the buttons will not get the placed image back to proportional again.
The "Fill Frame Proportionally" and "Fit Content Proportionally" buttons have no effect. The image scales, despite being locked together, are now out of proportion.
There are work-arounds - (Undo, for one.) Or typing in a percentage - for some reason, this resets both to the new size, even though they are 'locked' out of pro.
Bug? Or am I missing something?
Cheers
Grant

Here is excerpt from Adobe Announcement
Why do my images appear smaller on my Retina enabled Mac after installing the 13.1/13.0.2 update?
  Retina displays use a higher pixel density than a normal monitor. The individual display pixels are approximately one half the size of previous devices. While working in Photoshop before installing the 13.1/13.0.2 update, as with any other non-Retina optimized application, the number of pixels used is doubled to give a normal, non-miniaturized appearance. This can cause applications to be slightly blurred or pixilated. Thus, when viewing images in Photoshop, the zoom level is effectively double whatever is displayed. At 100% zoom, the image is displayed so that every one image pixel is shown with four display pixels, the same as viewing the image at 200%. With the 13.1/13.0.2 update, Photoshop now displays natively on Retina screens, meaning that image pixels now appear at the much smaller Retina size, thus reducing the amount of screen space they take up when viewed at 100%.
Hope this helps with conundrum.

  • Scaling issues with Windows 8.1 and 3200x1800 displays?

    What about scaling issues with CS6 Illustrator and Photoshop?  I have a hidpi 3200x1800 13" laptop with win 8.1 and can't use the software because of the tiny text.
    Thanks,
    PK
    Sent from my iPhone

    CS6 was released before HiDpi displays were common and there are no adjustments in that program.
    You can try going into Preferences > Interface and changing the UI Font Size to Large.
    You could also try lowering your display resolution until  is decently readable.
    Another step is joining Creative Cloud. Photoshop CC 2014 has 200% UI Scaling.
    $50/month for all apps or $10/month for Photoshop/Lightroom.
    There are intro and educational offers if you can get on them.

  • Photoshop CS6 Scaling issues: Vector/Raster smart objects

    My team and I have noticed some strange issues when affecting the overall interpolation of a .psd via scaling, cropping, or canvas resize.
    Test:
    Original .psd is even x even overall pixel dimensions.
    Original vector and raster smart object assets are all proportionally scaled with width x height percentages equal.
    Preferences: "Snap vector tools and transforms to pixel grid" is turned off
    Resize .psd via Image > Image Size palette.
    Scale styles, constrain proportions selected.
    Every interpolation style tested.
    Resize the .psd to 50%
    Result: All smart objects (both types) no longer are proportionately scaled. Usually off by a minor amount under 1/10th of a percent.
    Some objects' center point shift a half pixel to the right or left.
    This also occurs if we use the crop tool or resize the canvas.
    Is this a known bug and if so, is there:
    1) any setting to truly lock proportions?
    2) any resolution being pursued currently?
    Though the shift and the disproproptions seem minor, the overall quality of items such as icons, hairlines, and other things that should be more crisp become far more degraded in CS6 vs CS5.
    We have over 100 users and need to evaluate if we should drop back down to CS5, where we weren't having any of these issues, as our work demands a lot of precision, so you can see why this is worrisome.
    Thanks!

    I'm not going to say anything about the abysmal rendering of Vector Smart Objects in CS6 because it'll be beating a dead horse but I can explain the issues you see with measurements after scaling.
    The slightly disproportionate scaling and half-pixel shift of the centre is unavoidable when it happens because the resulting Smart Object/Vector Smart Object must measure an integer number of pixels in height and width and be perfectly aligned to the document pixel grid. That's true in CS5 and CS6.
    Say a SO/VSO originally measures 102 x 103 pixels and you scale it by 50%. The Options bar may say the result is 51 x 51.5 px but the result will really be 51 x 52 px, and therefore the new height will really be 50.49% of the old height.
    The original SO/VSO is an even number of pixels wide and an odd number of pixels high, therefore its centre will be halfway down a pixel. The 50%-scaled SO/VSO is an odd number of pixels wide and an even number of pixels high, therefore its centre will be halfway across a pixel.

  • Surface Pro 3, Remote Desktop, multiple monitors, Windows 8.1 DPI scaling issues

    I have been evaluating Surface Pro 3 and once of the attributes is the display. Here is the description of the environment and the remote desktop display issue.
    Surface Pro 3 (Windows 8.1 with latest firmware and Windows updates) has 12 inch built-in screen with native resolution 2160x1440. The Surface is docked and an external monitor (native resolution 1920x1080) is connected to the docking stations. The
    display configuration doesn't allow for different scaling for each monitor, single scaling value is used for multiple monitors. This is an issue as the recommended scaling of 150% is optimal for small built-in screen of Surface but it is not optimal for
    large screens of external monitors. Also this scaling is "inherited" by a remote desktop session which results in objects being too large on the remote desktop sessions or sometimes even blurry/fuzzy.
    Can the blurriness/fuzziness of the remote desktop session be resolved?

    Hi Colin,
    Thanks for the response. I installed the latest firmware and patches about a week ago and the scaling issue improved. It is not optimal yet as some graphical elements are still out of proportions but I do not want to spent more resources on this subject
    anymore.
    Best regards,

  • How do I fix this printer scaling issue?

    Copied from my post on Experts Exchange...
    I have a client running an OS X Server with Snow Leopard 10.6. Their office has iMacs and they print a variety of formats (PDF, DWG) from different programs.
    The problem is that the prints are not scaling properly. When set to a certain scale, the measured print is off by 2% or so.
    They also run Windows 7 in a virtualized machine via Parallels, and they are not experiencing the problem through windows.
    The printer in question is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400. It is connected directly to the OS X Server via USB. The printer is then shared via Server Admin using all protocols.
    On a client Mac OS X machine, I add the printer through System Preferences, Printers, and select the printer. When adding, I use the Gutenprint driver for this particular printer because for whatever reason, the standard driver will not print correctly (prints half-way, wrong size, etc.).
    I have tried restarting the Print Server, removing and re-adding the printer with the same driver, updating the Gutenprint drivers from 5.2.3 to 5.2.7. I even deleted a CUPS plist file thinking it would do something but apparently not.
    The prints used to print just fine. I don't know what to try as I am exhausting the research solutions I have found thus far online.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    In addition to Matt's suggestions, check what driver is being used on the server. If the Epson driver is being used on the server but the clients are having to use Gutenprint as you have mentioned, then this can also cause scaling issues. So if you can create the server queue using the Gutenprint driver (for some printers this can be tricky) then this can help. And with this queue using the Gutenprint driver I would then try printing a PDF directly from the OS X server to see if the same scaling issue occurs. If the server prints without the 2% reduction then you can concentrate on the client.
    And for the client, as a test, I would also try connecting the printer directly to a client Mac via USB and also see if the same scaling issue occurs. But ensure you do use the settings Matt has suggested, because the scale to fit does catch out a lot of users.

  • QHD+ Resolution Scaling Issues Windows 8

    I've read that QHD+ resolution monitors like the Dell Precision m3800 with a 3200x1800 resolution screen are having scaling issues with Windows 8, and even 8.1. Some programs scale correctly, but I have specifically heard Adobe programs including Adobe After Effects do NOT scale correctly.
    Are there plans to fix this with the next Windows release? Or a patch before then?
    Any rough estimate as to when that would be?
    Does it work at the moment to scale the monitor down to a lower resolution to fix it? Is it in fact tested and not just assumed. (I have no way of checking and can't get a straight answer)
    I want to buy this laptop soon, but I need it for After Effects and if it's not usable, it won't be a good buy. Would love to have some concret answers!
    Thanks!

    The CC versions of Adobe programs support high-DPI displays, but not older ones. If you use an older version, this won't change. Nobody goes back to old code.

  • Graphics scaling issues in Flash Builder 4.5.1

    Please review this screen shot. Details follow the image.
    FB 4.5.1
    applicationDPI = "160"
    Graphics using MultiDPIBitmapSource scale fairly well.
    Graphics used for these properties do not scale well at all:
    1) ViewMenuItem's "icon" property.
    2) List itemRenderer IconItemRenderer "decorator" property.
    3) TabbedViewNavigatorApplication's "splashScreenImage" property.
    These graphics assets end up with horrible scaling artifacts, making them unusable. So, I cannot use icons with Menus or Lists or a splash image.
    I've reviewed all of Adobe's documentation and followed all of their recommendations for creating graphics assets for use in a mobile applications. Simple graphics with no curved lines or angles less than 90 degrees scale well. Anything else does not.
    Attached is a screen shot comparing the scaling issues at 160, 240 and 320 dpi with applicationDPI = "160". It is using an FXG graphic created in Illustrator CS5.5.
    The FXG graphic was embedded in the s:IconItemRenderer  like this: decorator = "{images.arrow_list_icon}".
    For testing purposes, I also tried switching the decorator at runtime based on the applicationDPI, but of course this fails as the application still scales the graphic whenever the application's applicationDPI property is specified.
    <s:List>
    <s:itemRenderer>
    <fx:Component>
    <s:IconItemRenderer
    decorator = "{chooseDecorator()}"
    <fx:Script>
    //This code selects a different FXG asset based on the DPI reported at runtime.
    import images.arrow_list_icon160;
    import images.arrow_list_icon240;
    import images.arrow_list_icon320;
    import mx.core.FlexGlobals;
    protected function chooseDecorator():Class {
        var rtnVal:Class;
        switch (FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.runtimeDPI) {
            case mx.core.DPIClassification.DPI_160:
                rtnVal=images.arrow_list_icon160;
                break;
            case mx.core.DPIClassification.DPI_240:
                rtnVal=images.arrow_list_icon240;
                break;
            case mx.core.DPIClassification.DPI_320:
                rtnVal=images.arrow_list_icon320;
                break;
        return rtnVal;
    </fx:Script>
    Has anyone come up with methods which can be used to avoid scaling issues with these items when setting the applicationDPI property?

    Chances are that you'll get better answers for this question on the Flex general discussion forum. This forum is visited more by engineers on the tooling team while the latter has people from the Flex SDK team.

  • How to build proportionally scaled, full bleed background images correctly

    How do I build full bleed proportionally scaled background images that proportionally scale to different sizes of browser windows and without leaving any blank spaces at the right or bottom? How do I make sure that the text also scales proportionally?

    With CSS:
    body {background: url(your_BGimage.jpg) repeat}
    You need to use small, seemless images strips or tiles that are suitable for repeating across and down the page.
    http://alt-web.com/Backgrounds.shtml
    Large background images or photos do not resize in browser unless you build your site entirely in Flash.
    Font-size is dependant upon the end user's browser settings.   Viewport size doesn't effect text size.

  • Pen pressure issues with CS6

    So, I'm having an odd issue with my tablet and its pressure sensitivity with CS6. I've got a Genius MousePen tablet; M508W model. I can use it on my mac computer with photoshop elements; pen pressure works just fine with it. In CS6, when I do the stroke preview for all of my burshes, it shows the tapering-- as well as in the brush settings. When I go to make an actual rush stroke though, it doesn't apply the pressure settings. I've got the most recent drivers for the tablet downloaded, All of the old driver software was uninstalled, I've made sure that the drivers are for my version of windows, I've tried setting the compatability back to windows 7 and using the windows 7 drivers, but STILL nothing. The only reason I'm lead to believe that this is an issue with CS6 is that the tablet works with PS Elements just fine. If anyone could help shed some light on the situation, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    I am having a similar issue.
    Working in CS6 on a Cintiq Companion.
    Pressure sensitivity disappears while I'm working.
    The only way to get it back is to quit out of Photoshop and relaunch.
    The pressure sensitivity works fine in Autodesk Sketchbook.

  • I just had another issue with cs6 locking up.

    I just had another issue with cs6 locking up.  This time, I was in cs6 beta working on an image, I went to file/open to open another existing file in photoshop, and when the finder window popped up to select a .jpg to open up, the cursor wouldn't respond to the finder window that was opened up, and I couldn't close it out, and I had to force quite cs6.

    If I'm reading this correctly, your last kernel panic (that's what these are called) occured six months ago.  Is that correct?  It probably does not have anything to do with the number of windows you have open; I suspect it has to do with one of the third party kexts or non-apple hardware.  My guess would be something with parallels (is the software up to date?), but if you're only getting panics at 6 month intervals it's really hard to diagnose.
    Kernel panics aren't fun, but they aren't the end of the world.  make sure you keep regular backups, and if you can figure out how to replicate the panic at a more frequent interval we can figure it out.

  • PS CC running extremely slow...  No issues with CS6...

    Same system...  CS6 runs perfectly fine, close it, then load CC, not even workable.  Close CC and reload CS6 and it runs fine...
    Is CC really that much more hardware dependent?  I feel like the issue is software related and has nothing to do with my machine...  My Machine isn't some kind of powerhouse, but it does have 8gb of ram, and again, no real issues with CS6...

    I am having this same problem and can't figure out what is going on.  CS6 runs excellent, CC is unbearable.  two second delay on almost everything.  It is unusable.
    Windows machine:
    -Windows 8
    -Intel i7 970 3.2GHz with HyperThreading
    -Solid State main drive (C drive)
    -12GB RAM
    Any suggestions?

  • Scaling issue going from computer to flat screen tv.

    I have a client that has shot thousands of pictures from his world travels over the years some in the raw format some in jpeg. He created a slide show in Photoshop Elements of the pictures and when he shows them through his computer onto his large Toshiba HD flat screen some of them come out jagged (doesn't matter if they are jpeg or raw). I am assuming it is a scaling issue causing this. Question can some one please give me the right instructions on how to go about fixing this so all of his pictures come out crystal clear on his flat screen? Thanks.

    What is the current pixel dimension of the images that are causing the issue?

  • Proportional Scaling external Image to stage

    Sounds confusing I know but basically I want to place some images on the stage and I want every image, whether big or small, portrait or landscape, to be scaled to about a quarter of the stage size.
    I have tried coding this myself and even tried many suggestions found on the web, but they all seem to do the same thing. The code either sizes every image to be equal in width and varying height, or scale every image to be equal in height with varying width.
    Say you have some images all the same size, but some in landscape orientation and some in portrait orientation. Most of the code I found for "proportional scaling" would scale the landscape images okay, but make the portrait images the same height as the others, so they looked alot smaller. Or the reverse was true.
    example:
    image.width = stage.stageWidth;
    image.height = stage.stageHeight;
    ( image.scaleX < image.scaleY ) ? image.scaleY = image.scaleX : image.scaleX = image.scaleY;
    This makes all the images fit on the stage all right, but they all have the same width. reversing the equality amkes all teh heights the same.
    If two images did not have the same width before they are scaled down, they should not have the smae width afterwards in my opinion.
    Sometimes I get some code that seems to work, then I change the stage size to check it and all the images did not scale to 1/4 of the stage new size when the FLA was run.
    I bet this is simple, but I have been working on it too long, y mind is in a knot!

  • Classic tween scaling issue

    I have two jpeg images that are converted to movie clip symbols. When attempting to scale one from zero out to infinity (zoom out look), I apply the classic tween and the image zooms out above the top of my document window instead of going straight out. Is there something I can troubleshoot to fix this? I belive the registration point on the symbol is in the center, but how can I confirm?

    Hey, the best bet would be what the above poster said, click on your symbol and push Q to select the Free Transform tool and change the registration point to fit in the center. If you're having any scaling issues using tweens I'd just remove the tween and try again, I find tweening always buggy.
