ProRes 422 MOV files offline in Adobe Media Encoder 2014 (but online in Premiere)

The question is NOT about exporting PreRes files from a Windows PC, which is what I keep finding in my searches.
My client gave me ProRes 422 MOV files. I imported them into Premiere Pro CC 2014. I could see and edit them fine. But when I export them via Adobe Media Encoder, they appear to be offline. BTW, other media sources exported fine, such as the PNGs and JPGs I cut to. (I don't think it matters, but I'm attempting to make h.462 mp4s, which I do all the time, and have done with ProRes sources before using CC 2014.)
I tried exporting a short video clip (using same ProRes 422 source) from Premiere and it worked fine. Why not Adobe Media Encoder? I need to encode batches of videos with ProRes sources overnight, so exporting from Premiere is not a good option.
I'm on a Win 7 PC and I have QT Pro and iTunes (which I think also installs codecs).

Everything seems to be working fine now, though I don’t know why. I did update my iTunes (which I’d rather not even have installed on my PC because I never use it, but removing it seems to mess things up). I’ll also make sure to keep my QT updated. I thought it was because I upgraded to the paid version a couple months ago hoping to fix a similar problem, but again, it seemed to get fixed when I updated iTunes.
Thanks for getting back to me!

  • Freezes when exporting .mov files in CS4 / Adobe Media Encoder

For the past 7 hours now I have been trying every internet remedy for the following problem, and was wondering if any of you nice people could help:
I just came back from a ski trip, and wanted to make an edit featuring my fiends. I recorded large parts of the trip on my new iPhone, both in 720p 120fps (120.15fps, h.264 1280*720) and the normal 1080p 30fps. iPhone files are in the .mov format. I also recorded some parts on a GoPro hero hd2 camera at both 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps. GoPro files are in the MP4 format, and i've never had a probvlem with them.
Now all imports fine into premiere pro, and although I had a few problems with freezing while editing initially, this was quickly solved by terminating all unused (non-adobe) processes in task manager.
So I spent a good 4 hours making a 2.5 minute edit of our day, and wanted to export it.
So I selected the sequence, and went file>export>media, selected all of the preferences i wanted for exporting, and sent it to the Adobe media encoder.
The media encoder loads the files for a few seconds, and then starts the encoding process. And promptly freezes. It freezes at around 10-20 seconds (depending on export preferences) after starting to encode, and never restarts. i can then pause the encode, but cancelling it crashes adobe media encoder and subsequently also crashes Premiere Pro.
I may be mistaken here, but I have a strong suspicion that It is quicktime that is causing all this.
    So I tried the following:
    - reinstalling, downgrading, updating, etc. Quicktime
    - renaming file extensions from .mov to .mp4
    - all sorts of export preferences, from image sequences to dvd to blueray and dv. (Image sequences, interestingly, occasionally export to about half a minute into the video(also depending on preferences), then freeze)
    - crossing my fingers
    - checking for gaps in video, found none
    - updating premiere pro and media encoder
    - throwing my mouse at the wall in frustration
    - making a new project with different settings and copying in the sequence
    - disabling "Include source xmp metadata"
    - making a new user account and trying it there
Is there anything else I can try?
Could I copy the project itself into a different program (e.g. iMovie or Windows Movie Maker) and export from there?
Is there an alternative to Adobe media encoder?
    Need more information?
    Thanks for the help!
    Specs:
    Premiere version: 4.2.1
    Encoder version: 4.2.0.006
    Comp specs:
    16Gb ram
    quad core i5
256 Gb solid state (system, program files are here)
2TB HDD (video files, scratch disk are here)
    Nvidia gtx 660 graphics
    Windows 64 bit
    1 monitor

I bought quicktime pro today to try this, but to no avail. it just freezes up again during export.
I tried some other fixes on that page, like renaming files to .mpg extension, which worked once during an export of a test sequence (although everything was shifted and it cut off the export at the gopro footage).
Is there any way I can export this project to another program to export it from there perhaps?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Maximum file size with Adobe Media Encoder?

I seem to be having a problem when converting files in AME.
I'm converting .m2v files into quicktimes files, using the DVCPRO HD 1080i50 codec. No sound is being exported with the audio.
Dimensions are 1440 x 1080, frame rate, field type and aspect are locked at 25, Upper First and HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) respectivly.
I've encoded about eleven other files of the same type without fail, however this certain file is at 1.7gig compared, where as every other file I wanted to encode is under 1gig.
I'm using an Asus N53SV with 16gig of ram, so I'm sure my laptop can handle whatever is thrown at it. I'm using a 64bit operating system on Windows 7 home premium Service pack one.
    Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2630QM CPU @ 2.00Ghz
    RAM Memory: 16gig
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce FT 540M
Progam: Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 ver. 5.5.1.12
    The error log reads:
    - Source File: G:\Digital Postcard\To convert\Untitled-6.m2v
    - Output File: G:\Digital Postcard\To convert\Untitled-6_2.mov
    - Preset Used: Custom
    - Video: 1440x1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 100
    - Audio:
    - Bitrate: DVCPRO HD 1080i50
    - Encoding Time: 00:09:50
    04/19/2012 03:19:30 AM : Encoding Failed
File size that I want to encode is 1.7gig
I'm assuming either the file is corrupt or I don't have sufficient specs to handle the large file.
    Any help will be great,
    Thanks.

There are no file size limits to the software beyond what would be imposed by the operating system itself and the file format of the drive.
So...assuming you have enough drive space, something else is going on.

  • How could I get the setup files to install Adobe Media Encoder in a non connected computer?

    HI,
I'd like to try Adobe Media Encoder in a non connected computer.
But I don't find the way to get the trial setup files.
Thanks in adavance for your time.
    Mike

AME is tied to other apps. There is no separate installer.

  • Why I have only 5 file formats in Adobe Media Encoder?

I have an Adobe Media Encoder CS6. The problem is that, how i have only 5 file formats in the program. These: h.264 and (Legacy), FLV, F4V and MP3. The program doesn't support any more files. If i input a .avi or .3gp file it says: "File format doesn't supported". 1 weak ago it worked for me. Please help me.

The formats that Adobe Media Encoder can use are determined by the other applications that are installed. For example, InDesign and Flash only give AME a very small number of formats; whereas Premiere Pro and After Effects give it many more.

  • Adobe Media Encoder timecode doesn't match Premiere sequence

Hi, I'm having an issue when exporting through Adobe Media Encoder.  My source sequence is 23.976 fps; I've set the Display Format in AME to 24 fps (options are 24, 25 and 30) and the export setting to 23.976 but the time codes don't match; AME seems to be adding frames.  Over the course of a 90 minute export AME is adding about 6 seconds; the Premiere sequence is 01:33:52:13 while the AME export settings show 01:33:58:04.
I'm exporting this in chunks so I'm concerned that when I string them all together with the audio there will be a sync problem.
    Version:  AME CS6 6.0.2.81 64bit
Using with Premiere CS6; have entire suite installed
    Most recent update installed
    Mac OS X 10.7.3
    Creative Cloud:  No.
Working with a mix of RED 5k, 4.5k and 4k footage; all shot 23.976
    No error messages
Is the problem only occurring with a specific output format or encoding preset? If so, which one? - same on all outputs; exporting to prores 422 1920x1080 23.976
    Running Premiere at same time
Mac Pro, 2 x 2.4 GHz 6-core intel xeon, 64 gb ram, solid state boot drive, red rocket, black magic, decklink hd extreme 3d+
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration in Premiere Pro? - yes by default? no cuda / opencl
An unrelated problem I've also been having is when I try to export the full sequence, or even half, the export will freeze around 40%.  No error message, just stops.

How are you checking the exports?

  • File Import Error - Adobe Media Encoder, help!

I'm at a complete loss. AME worked very well for me for a long time and booting it up yesterday gave me a paralyzing error.
Upon trying to import an MOV, MP4, and later a WMV, I received the following error:
    File Import Error
The file C:\Users\tj\Desktop\New folder\SH_GS_PeekPlay_DEMO_720.mp4 could not be imported. Could not open source file. Please check that file exists with correct permissions.
I've tried everything I can think of:
    1. Moved the file off the server and onto my desktop.
    2. Double checked file permissions (all of which I have)
    3. Uninstalled AE and Premiere to try to get rid of Media Encoder.
    4. Searched for a way to uninstall AME so I could put a fresh install (can't find how to do this)
    5. Manually updated AME
    6. Reboot (multiple times between these steps)
    7. Contact customer support - no help thus far.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit with Adobe CC and AME 7.0.1.58

    Tried that as well.
To rule everything out, I had the files placed:
    1. On company internal server
    2. External Harddrive connected through Firewire
    3. Internal Hard Drive (with OS)
    4. Internal secondary Hard Drive (data only)
    5. On Desktop (technically 1st internal drive)
I have since fixed this by uninstalling every single Adobe application (including Flash and Air) and redownloading and installing each.

  • Transcode .mov files to DNxHD using Media Encoder 6

I want to transcode .mov files (H.264 shot on Canon 5D Mark III) to DNxHD 175 for editing in Avid. I know that later versions of Media Encoder allow you to transcode to DNx. Is there a way to download the DNX codec to Media Encoder.
Is there a way to upgrade to latest version of Media Encoder without buying whole Creative Cloud monthly option?  I bought one of large Adobe software packages before they switched to Creative Cloud. I shouldn't have to pay for expensive monthly charge when I just paid hundred for software package.

No. All versions of AME are now on Creative Cloud.

Sorry if a Creative Cloud subscription won't work for you, but it's the only way to stay current with Adobe creative software.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5 + .MTS Files

    Greetings!
In the past I have used Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to convert .mts files from my Canon Vixia HF200.  These were taken off an external hard drive, not in the original file structure.  I converted them to Quicktime H.264 and everything worked great.
However, now I have tried the same process with Adobe Media Encoder CS5, but now I get a message that the "Compression Type is Not Supported"
I have tried multiple computers and reinstalled a few times.
Has anyone seen this or do you have any suggestions?
    My Setup:
    Mac OS X 10.6.x
    Adobe Media Encoder 5.0.x
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Thanks,
    Steve

I am having a similar problem. We have a client with .MTS files I need to convert into .mov. When I try to add one in it states that the Compression Type is not Supported.
    I have:
CS5- Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, DW, Fireworks, Catalyst, PS, Adobe Reader, Bridge, Device Central, Extension Manager. Nothing is a trial version.
I don't have any of the other programs listed in the above post.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Adobe media encoder error message - please help

I purchased adobe creative suite 4 web standard in january of 2010.  I'm in the process of learning how to use all the features.  I am building a website in dreamweaver and wanted to create and import a flash movie.  I opened adobe media encoder from my program files.  I added an avi file to the encoder, chose a medium quality for web, and clicked Start Queue.  I then got the following pop up error message:
    Error Message:

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5 not encoding

I'm following lessons from Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a Book. Chapter 8 is where I met Adobe Media Encoder CS5, but couldn't go any further with the lesson because as soon as I drag the penguin.mov to AME I get the message

I then click "Continue" and I get the Windows window saying "Windows is checking problem..." I click close to close the Windows window and it also closes AME.
I open AME again and I drag my own Windows Media Files to see if it will work. AME works for awhile and then stops with the exclamation mark inside the yellow triangle under "Status" I click "Status" and I get this log messages:

I, of course, have no idea what any of the above means. Please help.

Looks like one component in Media Encoder is either missing or corrupted somehow.
Could you uninstall Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 and please make sure all files are deleted after uninstall?  Then, please try re-installing it.

  • Exporting with Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 loses sound.

So... I've been having a hell of a time with the new Adobe creative cloud when it comes to video editing.  The drop of .flv format, unable to straight export .H24 formats from after effects, it's a total nightmare.  Here's the issue, to export as a .H24, you now have to use Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014.  The biggest issue, however, is at the end of the export, when you open the video, half of the video's sound is mysteriously GONE.  Just gone.  If you go back to after effects, look at the file and the audio, the wave forms are there.  There's nothing that would make it lose sound.  Audio is selected on export... I have no idea what's up.  Editing videos for youtube was a snap in previous versions of After Effects, now It's becoming almost impossible.

  • Adobe Media Encoder Freezes

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 V4.2.1 on a Windows 7 64-bit system. I have an Intel Core i7 processor running at 3.1 GHz, 12 GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1413 MHz, an nVidia GeForce 260 core 216 graphics card, and a video disk consisting of 2 WD 7200 RPM HDD striped as a RAID 0.
Encore was crashing the computer everytime I selected the Build tab and clicked on the Blu-Ray button. This was solved by updating the Sonic Solutions PX Engine.
Now I have problems with the AME. I am working on a 2 Hr 39 Min project with .mp4 clips which Adobe's "Get Properties For" recognizes as XDCAM EX files NTSC, 1080i, 1920X1080 at 29.97 FPS. My preset is selected accordingly.
I have seen multiple posts about Adobe Media Encoder freezing but never found a definitive answer. I have gone as far as doing a clean install and reinstalling PrPro but nothing has changed.
The same thing happens when I try to build an H.264 Blu-ray disk image in Encore or whether I try to render the timeline in Premiere Pro CS4. The transcoding proceeds normally and the orange progress bar progresses for the first 3 - 3 1/2 hours. All 8 processor cores are running temps of 56-60 degrees Centigrade. After 3 - 3 1/2 hours the processor core temps fall to 36-40 degrees and there is no further progression of the orange bar over the next 3-4 hours. At that time the transcoding of Sequence 1 is about 30% complete. I then hit the cancel button and the busy ring spins and spins for about 10 minutes. Then a Windows pop-up says the program is not responding and asks if I want to close the program.
I had an almost identical project when I was using Windows Vista 64-bit and PrPro CS4 on the very same computer, but before the V4.2 update came out, and did not have any problems at all. I have been using Premiere Pro for about 14 years and have never encountered crashes like I am having now.
Hopefully somebody has the answer for this???

I am no expert but I had this happen also.
It turned out to be a bad video clip.
Have you rendered the project? (Sequence>Render Entire Work Area (Timeline must be your active box I believe))
    Does it finish or hang?
If it hangs up you most likely have a bad clip or empty space.
The experts will be able to give you more to go on but that may get you started.
Also, I never trust the new Windows 7 "not responding" popup.
I always go to task manager and have a look, if I wait for something I know should take a long time it is almost always a false popup.
Watch for the ImporterProcessServer.exe *32 process. If it takes up a full core worth of processor percentage, you most likely have a problem with a clip. (I am willing to back off that “opinion” but it holds true for me.)
