Prores support in Premiere on MAC

(I am, as per usual, confused.)
A few Qs:
1)   I've read vague reports regarding prores support in Premiere.  When I say support, I am mean being able to READ(decode) and WRITE(encode) any of the Prores flavors (Proxy, LT, 422, 422HQ and 4444).  I have a Mac Pro with nothing but a clean install of 10.7 Lion and Adobe Production Premium CS5.5 on it.  What do I need to install for read/write Prores support?  I THINK I need to download just Motion or Compressor from the Mac App store to have access to all the Prores flavors. (encode & decode)  Is that correct?  Or is there a free option?
2)    If I download Motion for example, will I then see the prores codecs as an option in the Premiere export dialog or in Adobe Media Encoder as an export option?  I ask this because i would like to be able to transcode DSLR H.264 footage, GoPro footage and Logitech webcam footage into a standardized intermediate codec (Prores LT)  for my project.
3)    I am still confused about what the render situation is when editing Prores footage in Premiere.  Will the following chain of events take place?  I download/install Motion THEN > I import prores files into Premiere THEN > I drag one of these prores files onto the Create New Sequence button to create a sequence  THEN > I can edit and the sequence will NOT require rendering (no colored render bar) because the sequence should match the media settings?  Is this correct?
I hope I have articulated my questions well.
With respect and admiration,
El Steverino

I recommend reading the document that Tom pointed to about the render bar colors. The important thing to note is this bit:
OK, so now about those colored render bars…
With that preparatory definition out of the way, what do the colored bars mean?
green: This segment of the sequence has a rendered preview file associated with it. Playback will play using the rendered preview file. Playback at full quality is certain to be in real time.
yellow: This segment of the sequence does not have a rendered preview file associated with it. Playback will play by rendering each frame just before the CTI reaches it. Playback at full quality will probably be in real time (but it might not be).
red: This segment of the sequence does not have a rendered preview file associated with it. Playback will play by rendering each frame just before the CTI reaches it. Playback at full quality will probably not be in real time (but it might be).
none: This segment of the sequence does not have a rendered preview file associated with it, but the codec of the source media is simple enough that it can essentially be treated as its own preview file. Playback will play directly from the original source media file. Playback at full quality is certain to be in real time. This only occurs for a few codecs (including DV and DVCPRO).
Note the uses of the word probably above. The colors aren’t a promise. They’re a guess based on some rather simple criteria. If you have a fast computer, then a lot of things marked with red may play back in real time; if you have a slow computer, then some things marked with yellow may need to be rendered to preview files before the segment can be played in real time.

While Premiere Elements 12 is still the current version, I would encourage you to contact Adobe via its Adobe Chat to try to sort out the
troubleshooting details for your Premiere Elements 12 Mac installation problems. To reach the Chat Panel, please click on the following link

If the link does not hold its set, you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the above titles as guides.
At this moment, the above path shows an active Chat Panel. The representative at that link should be able to help you or direct
you to a group that can. The above link is provided since those named "Downloading and Installing" do not have an available Chat Panel

The Adobe technical support group may be able to offer you the remote control of your computer for troubleshooting which we cannot as user to user.
    Look into:
    1. Installation with and without antivirus and firewall(s) disabled
    2. Running from User Account with Administrative Privileges - check permissions and preferences
    3. Latest version of QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements
    4. Computer resources
    5. Video card/graphics card up to date according to web site of manufacturer of the card
    6. Deletion of Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file (Users/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0/
Please review and consider and then we can consider what next.

  • Information about GPUs supported by Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hi,
I'm going to buy a new nVidia video card and, because of I'm very passionate of video editing, I want finally have one supported by Premiere Pro CS5.5. I've read something about that on the Adobe site, and I've found a list of supported GPUs:
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
    GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
    GeForce GTX 570 (Windows)
    GeForce GTX 580 (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3700M (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800M (Windows)
Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro FX 5800 (Windows)
    Quadro 2000 (Windows)
    Quadro 2000D (Windows)
    Quadro 2000M (Windows)
    Quadro 3000M (Windows)
Quadro 4000 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro 4000M (Windows)
    Quadro 5000 (Windows)
    Quadro 5000M (Windows)
    Quadro 5010M (Windows)
    Quadro 6000 (Windows)
    Quadro CX (Windows)
Now I'm asking, if I bought a GTX 550, which is not in the list, would it be supported? I think so becase, however, it should be better than, for example, a GTX 470, instead present in the list. But I have this doubt... Can you clarify my ideas?

    Welcome to the forums!
It depends on what you mean by supported.  If you mean can you use either of them then the answer is yes. The supported list is those cards specifically have been tested by Adobe and are listed in the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" file  If you have another card you may have to add it to that file.  If you take a look at the Premiere Pro BecnMark (PPBM5) you will see that many other cards are being used by people that have submitted their results,
The more important factors that you should consider is the number of CUDA cores and how much power your system can supply to this upgrade that you intend to do.  The 470 has 448 CUDA cores and requires 215 watts.  The 550 is of course a slightly new design but it is at the low end of the CUDA cores with only 192 cores but it only draws 116 watts.  Either could require you to upgrade your power supply depending on how much spare power is available in your power supply.
Here are some boards that I personally tested about a month ago (prices may have changed) showing PPBM5 (MPEG2-DVD, H.264 and Rendering the Timeline) encoding times versus board type.

  • Can't get Samson Mic (C01U0) to work with Premiere 12 (Mac)

Can't get my Samson C01U mic to work with Adobe Premiere Elements 12 (Mac). It keeps saying "Your current hardware audio selection does not have any input chanel" I've tried everything , please help

    bfrazier88
As always, strictly an Elements Windows person here.
In the Premiere Elements Windows world USB microphone are rarely if ever supported. What type of microphone is your
Samson C01U? A Google search seems to say that it is the USB type.
That may or may not be the case in the Mac experience.
Also, in your Premiere Elements 12 Mac system, do you have Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware with its ASIO tab under which are Input and Output tab/settings or the counterpart of those settings in Mac?
The forum moderator Steve Grisetti used Premiere Elements Mac so perhaps he can steer us in the right direction on finding the core of your Premiere Elements Mac audio issue.
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
    More later.

  • ProRes Presets for Premiere CS6

Is it possible to import, capture or convert to ProRes? In the 6.0.1 update download, or a link near it, I got ProRes presets from Adobe. The only place If found such presets installed was in the Application folder of Photoshop CS 6 Applications/Photoshop CS6/Presets/Video/Adobe Media Encoder   Is this where they should be placed? Is there a way to get them to all show up at once under a folder named ProRes or should they be placed in the Quicktime folder there? I was able to bring up one at a time by navigating there in the export window, but it would seem to be better if they all just showed up. I was able to export successfully to ProRes 422 using that file path to apply the preset, but have not tried to cross convert or import. Does it work for that and what is the procedure? I have all the ProRes codecs installed from Final Cut Pro as well as the latest ProApps ProRes install. Thanks.

  • Need info about nvidia graphics card supported with premiere pro cs5

    Hi
I need information about nvidia graphics card supported with premiere pro cs5
If I have a computer(portable) with this video card or graphics card :
nVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX  285M with 1GB DDR3 Video Memory available in Single or Dual (SLi) Configurations
    Microsoft® DirectX® 10 Compatible
is it going to support MPE in premiere  pro cs5?
    Regards,

    To be clear:
You asked about supported cards. Here is a list of supported cards. Others on this thread are telling you how to make an unsupported card function to some degree using a method that is not advocated by Adobe.

  • Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC

Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC. But I can into After Effects CC.
I also can't export to DNxHD files to an MXF file either.
I do have latest Quicktime Pro installed and I also have Avid Media Composer and the other pieces of the Avid package.
    Conflict?

I only have one account on the computer and it has Administrator priveleges.  What I am doing to make it work is opening the application using the "Run as Administrator" command (e.g., right click application shortcut on desktop, choose "Run as Administrator").  I am not a Windows guru but I would guess there is something different between opening an Application with a user that has Administrator priveleges and opening an Application choosing "Run as Administrator".  Also, your answer still does not address the fact that I can't use my jog wheel.
    Anyone else have some ideas?

  • AVCHD support in Premiere Pro CS3

I just noticed there is a KB technote, kb403297, regarding avchd support in premiere: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403297 .
As you can see, the technote says nothing. Is there something afoot? Will Premiere FINALLY support avchd ?

Could you please read this new tech note about AVCHD and advise what you think: kb403297 ( just posted today) link: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb403297
In particular, I would like to know if anyone has experience with the blackmagic Intensity Pro card, about which the tech note says:
    Blackmagic (recommended)
Blackmagic Intensity Pro card offers real-time capture to the PC from the camera using the HDMI cable into the Intensity card. This provides Premiere Pro CS3 editable format, but the sound is stereo only.
I like the sound of this solution for AVCHD editing (it is $250 to $350).....would like to know if anyone has tried it

How do I download the windows support software for my Mac? I am getting an error  message saying that the software is not available

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I do not recommend you to download the Windows support software through Boot Camp Assistant.
Instead, you can download the Windows support software for most Macs from the Apple website. Go to this website, look for your MacBook Pro model and the Windows version you want to install, and follow its steps.

From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.
    chewy cabeza wrote:
...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?
