Prores to color contrast+sat shift please please help

Hi,
I'm using my macbookpro monitor throughout this problem.
I have a sequence of shots in prores 422 format that look great in quicktime etc. I've imported them to final cut (7) where they look fine (same prores settings) and then sent them to color. In preferences color is set to render as same settings as the shots.
When i view the shots in color they are brighter and more saturated, when i render them out without a grade and watch in quicktime (7.6.4) they are brighter with more sat (ie the same as how they appeared in color). When i render the exact same original shots that i sent to color out of final cut (same prores settings throughout) and watch them in quicktime they are fine. Both are rendering out the same shots without any changes yet they look completely different. Color is really screwing up the shots. What is going on? This renders color useless to me and it's really frustrating me. I can't believe it. Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

thankyou very much for replying.
However, do you have an idea why when exporting from final cut using 'export quicktime movie' (using the same settings as original clip throughout) i get the same brightness and saturation shift as color, whereas i don't get these shifts when using 'export using quicktime conversion'? I have the exact same settings as the original clip in both instances but one screws up the image.
Do you know what i can do 'as the operator' to help my situation? I already have my monitor set to a custom 2.2 gamma since buying the macbook pro.
What concerns me about color is the original file i am importing is already graded for broadcast, but simply by importing that grade into color it is shifting the contrast and saturation, and then when exporting it is likewise shifted for good. This can't be right?

When exporting my edited pictures to a folder in m Pictures it goes as a blank soft color but no photo. It looks like a tiny dot and when you open it, it is a soft color.. Please help!

I am trying to send as attachement. I have tried to screen shot but must not have a clue how to!  Is there a number someone can walk me through this.. or if you could tell me how to screen shot it. I am trying the print screen but not working. I have never done on  a computer before. My system is Dell Pentium Dual Core [email protected]   4.00GB  64 Bit Windows Vista. I tried to download a trial of LR4 so I could get some work done until prob fixed but it tells me my system not compatible. I am thinking of creative cloud but will this work with my system. I use LR for 100% of my editing but have been doing other things (newborns) where I feel I need CS6. If you could let me know what I need to do to run the new LR and CS6 that would be great. (Really need a computer class)! Thanks

  • Canon IP7250 - Color won't print - Please help

I have a Canon IP7250, two day ago, my printer showed me error C000. I resolved this error, but now my printer won't printing in colour. Black working properly. I tried many times to cleaning a toner in mainteace. When I go to "print head alignment" then shows error 2500. ? In nozzle check black colour is excellent but no other colors on paper.
    Please, help me.
    Thanks.

Again, the username/password, would either be your logon username/password or your "root" username/password if you have enabled it.
Another option would be to update your CUPS software. Multi-functional printers are usually "tricky" to get full-featured drivers for. It's possible that a newer version for this particular printer may exist with an update.
Still another option (and possibly a better one) would be to download and install the latest Gutenprint printer drivers. These were formally known as Gimp-Print drivers. (ref: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3)

  • Adjust image colors... Please Help!!!

I shot an interview with two cameras and apparently I forgot to do the white balance on one of them. As a result, I now have one b-Roll with a cold image texture and the other one with a warmer/yellowish tone.
I'm going to use the video with the cold texture, so what can I do to dimmish the yellowish feeling on the other video. I tried ALL the Video Filters options but there made no difference.
Is there any bar in Final Cut Pro where I could manually manipulate the brightness, temperature, etc, so I can see in real time how is the image is changing? That way I'll be able to match the yellowish image to my cold temperature B-Roll.
    PLEASE HELP ME!! Thank you!!

    1) Use the Color Corrector 3-way.
    2) Use the Frame Viewer.
    3) Read the FCP documentation and the Apple Pro Training Series book to learn how to use these effectively.
    4) In the future, post Final Cut Pro questions to the Final Cut Pro forum (this is the Final Cut Server forum).

  • Anyone using sata_promise w/ SATA drives, please help.

A recently submitted a kernel patch to ensure that PATA ports are detected on Promise FastTrak controllers with both PATA and SATA ports. I have no way of testing SATA drives with this patch. Could someone using one of these controllers with SATA drives please patch a kernel and see if everything is still good?
    Bug Report #4770

I'm using sata_promise with a SATA HD. Unfortunately, since Linux 2.6.17 it doesn't want to boot anymore (kernel oops on startup). For now I am using  2.6.15-archck which I still had lying around fortunately, though 2.6.16 also worked for me.
Do you by any chance know about this problem? According to linux changes, this has happened to the promise driver:
    * Add support for the Promise Fasttrak TX4300/TX4310 4-port PCI SATA controllers based on the PDC40719 chip to sata_promise driver (commit)
But that was actually a very minor patch, I guess some other promise/sata related change broke it.

  • Huge loss of color on images. Please help.

When saving my presentation into a quicktime file, all my images become so dull with loss of color/vibrancy etc. (I save it this way, because I use this file on my IWeb built website) Any ideas on how to correct. Thanks in advance.

Are you using QuickTime Pro? If so, when you open your QT presentation, the Window menu in the toolbar includes "Show A/V Controls", and there you'll find sliders to adjust color, contrast, etc.
Even so, visitors to your website won't necessarily see the same image quality on their screens that you see on yours; so it may be wise to keep your adjustments on the moderate side.

  • Dv7t-3000 - Sata or Sata 2 - Please help explain what this has!

I assumed that Sata 2 being mainstream for so long, this new laptop of mine would have it.
I want to buy one of the nicer SSD for this unit, but I can NOT confirm anywhere that it will run up to 300 megs.
If it's Sata 1 then I wouldn't be getting much performance gain from a SSD as this 7200RPM HDD rates up to 100 megs.
I contacted HP Support and got told that my laptop only has Sata 1.
I find this impossible to believe.  Why in the world would HP do that?  I read in a post on the forums that this laptop
falls into the top 5% for overall performance for laptops.  How is that so unless it has sata 2?  Why would they
have old Sata 1 in such new technology?
Can anyone confirm if HP Support is correct?  I have the guy second guessing himself right now and he asked for serial number to try and find documentation to support his claim.  I may have to RMA this beast and start searching for a laptop that has SATA II because that is the main reason I wanted a laptop!  For the SSD to WOW me!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, input, and effort you may put into this!

    UPDATE:
Otay.  Now I understand why all the reviews out there say what they say about HP support.  Makes you feel like you carried your new puppy into an auto garage to learn about it.  WRONG people, wrong place!
Can anyone who knows english and knows about computers please tell me why the ...  why HP would be retarded and put Sata 1 in this killer laptop?  Do they really enjoy upsetting their customers?  All I kept getting for that supervisior was "you computer customized and you hard drive you choose sata 1"
I bought it directly from HP.com so I could have everything in it that you may not get from a retail store.  She couldn't seem to grasp that nowhere on hp.com does it let you know if you get sata 1 or sata 2.   Option not offered and it SHOULDN'T be.  It should automatically be sata 2!  Sata one was like so 1998!
Sorry for being so upset.  I just want a killer SSD to make this beast all it should be and HP is telling me it's not going to happen.  Do I need to start an RMA?  Or can someone confirm that I can get read speeds of 230 from that SSD I want?

    Hi,
Many owners(those who can afford it) of the dv7t series are putting OCZ agility and vertex drives in to replace their SATA hard disk.
I have no doubt that the speed of the SSD disk will wow you even if it isn't SATA2. Think about restart times of 58 seconds!

  • SATA Problem please Help?

Can anyone help? I started my mac pro this afternoon, and one of my SATA Drives isn't showing itself on my desktop with the others!! I swapped bays with the other drive and it still only shows one. Any Ideas?

Since I got my MacPro I have used or tried six different HDs in it and one (only) of them is prone to not showing up (early Maxline lll 300 gb).
This has only happened just after I have moved it, and it has sometimes taken a reboot or three to show up. Once it does show up in its new position it is always OK thereafter.
One time I tried resetting the PRAM (restart holding down appleoption+PR till after the second chime). Can't remember now whether this actually fixed it but it would be worth trying, if nothing else is working. Or try booting into safe mode (restart holding down shift key).
Wasn't clear from your post if the drive not showing up was previuosly mounting OK and now isn't, or whether it is new and has never shown up.

  • After updating to ios 6, my ipod touch won't access some of my music. The music is gray colored and unclickable. Please help!!

A couple months ago I updated my iPod touch to the most recent ios (6.1.3). Now, my music works normally except for one thing: some of it is gray colored and unplayable.  I have one album of music that I actually bought on my iPod and only one song in it is playable. I also have some music that I bought on my computer and synced into my  iPod and only choice music of that collection is playable. Then I have four of five tangible albums that I bought and downloaded onto my computer and then synced to my iPod. It's just so weird how only some choice songs or albums are unplayable, but a lot of it is of some of my favorites artists, so I really hope this can be fixed! Thanks!

    Hello:
I have a MS-6741 board that I am trying to setup with 2 WD 1200 sata drives.
(This is my first experience with sata drives) I am trying to do a Raid 1 setup.
I can't even get to square one with this!
Problem:  When I plug in the cable from the drive to the MB the drive will NOT power up.
If I remove the MB cable from the drive, it power up's OK.  It will do the same thing with the second drive.
I am guessing it's not the drives because they both do the same thing.
Any help SURE would be appreciated.
      Tks.

I talked to a Tech guy at MSI.
He said the WD 120 drives I was using MUST have the jumpers on because of a problem
with using the drives with the MSI board I am using.
I put the (Drive) jumpers on and everything is OK.
It's all easy when you know how

  • LR2 and PS Eelements8 show different RGB for the same color - Please, HELP

    LR2, Elements 8, Color Chart 24 (CC24),
Please help. I may need to reset LR2 to factory default or to something else.
For the following RAW adjustments the tone curve set to Linear, Contrast and Brightness to 0
I have photographed a CC24 in RAW. Opened image in Elements 8 and adjusted Exposure to 243 for the White patch #19
Then with with WB tool clicked on the 50% Gray and then readjusted exposure for the CC24 listed 243 for #19.
    Now all Gray patches #19 through #24 as listed in the table or very close R=G=B (243, 200, 160, 122, 85, 52)
The RGB numbers for Red Patch #15 are R=169, G=58, B=63
    The CC24 listed RGB for Red patch #15 are R=175, G=54, B=60
Also saved the adjusted image as JPG
Then opened the image in LR2 and adjusted exposure and WB as described above for Elements 8.
The Gray patches #19 through #24 show RGB numbers as listed in the table or very close.
The RGB numbers for the Red patch #15 are R=138, G=84, B=64.
    However the CC24 RGB for Red patch #15 are R=175, G=54, B=60
    Exported the image as JPG
Then opened the two saved JPG images in Elements. these two images read almost identical RGB numbers for each patch.
How can I fix LR2 RGB reading. Recently I have saved as defaults the tone curve set to Linear, Contrast and Brightness to 0 and probably did it wrong. My be I need to reset LR2 to the factory defaults to restore its correct reading or something else.
    Please help.
    Leonid

Q1. Is that means that when LR2 Exported  RAW to JPG the correct numbers resulted from conversion?
You should be careful with the term RGB numbers. Such numbers are only useful when you know the working space. For example, sRGB, adobeRGB, prophotoRGB, melissaRGB, etc. The numbers I calculated are simply the reference numbers (find them here: http://www.brucelindbloom.com/index.html?ColorCheckerRGB.html ). I recalculated the values in the display space used in Lightroom from Bruce Lindbloom's values in normal prophotoRGB which is a simple arithmetic excercise. When Lightroom exports a jpeg, you can set the color space in the export panel and it will do the conversion for you meaning that it will translate between its internal colorspace and the desired export color space. In an external program, you will usually be working in sRGB, adobeRGB, or prophotoRGB, which are the three main spaces that Lightroom exports to. As you can see from Bruce's tables in the link above the RGB values for these patches in all these spaces are different.
    For example RGB for MacBeth CC24 Red patch (#15) was shown as 203, 0, 0 and x-rite RGB is 174, 54, 60.
They are actually the exact same chart. As I say above the values are meaningless if you don't know the colorspace. The first RGB triplet you quote makes no sense at all. It does not correspond to any colorspace listed for the MacBeth chart. The zeros indicate that the color is far outside of the gamut of the used color space, so the value is basically useless. The second is sort of close to the sRGB value.
Q.2 Would it mean that your shown table should not be applied to (used with) x-rite CC24 but to MacBeth only?
They should be pretty good for both as the chart is supposed to be the same.
Q3. Have you created your posted LR table or it was provided by Adobe?
I created it myself. Since you have a colorchecker, you should look into creating a camera profile using it. This can be done with X-rite's excellent passport utility (free download from their website), or with Adobe's free DNG profile Editor. Simply shoot a chart in the right light conditions and run the raw/dng file through this utility and a profile is created that will allow you to get very good color rendering from your camera if you shoot raw.

  • PLEASE HELP - COLOR SHIFTING PROBLEM on output NTSC monitors

    http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Above is a link to a layered photoshop file that has a USA map and over a dozen network overlays used in a section of our video. I animate each layer on sepeartely in the video and have noticed a major problem recently, the color of the art does not hold true to placement. I created the art originally in Illustrator and then converted the file to Photoshop at 640x480, 72dpi. This has always worked perfectly in the past to display and animated artwork in FCP.
Right now, in FCP I am using the NTSC DV 3:2 frame size, and the compressor of DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I have a JVC Profressional DV deck that hooks up through firewire and sends S-Video to my monitors. This setup has always given me a great picture even though it is not completely upcompressed. Using these settings and this art, the color lines on this map in red, light blue, yellow and purple all have a "color shift" to the left about 5 pixels. It makes it appear that the line is where it is in the file, but the color overlaying the line is offset to the left 5 pixels and transperant to about 50%. This occurs only when viewed on some TV's and NTSC monitors and projectors. The strange thing is, some monitors display the color aligned almost perfectly on these maps and other monitors and projectors show this "digital halo" of color shifting really bad. If I take the layered network overlays in these colors and color tint them to black or grey, white, light green, or even light orange, they no longer have the color shifting and the detail is perfect.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I have tried duplicating the sequence and setting the compressor to 8bit Uncompressed, and while my captured footage is not this compression, in theory the art should render at this higher resolution setting. This did nothing to solve the problem.
I also have tried using different Broadcast safe and Y/C corrector filters with different results. The Y/C filter allowed me to reposition the color problem and thus removing most of the problem, but also removing most of the color. Nothing else has allowed me to seemingly move the color into the proper possition.
What is causing this color shift on the displayed NTSC image?
In FCP 4.5 I can see my rendered video in the program viewer screen and besides the pixel compression appearing on the lines, overall the video looks great paused or even better when playing. Then you view it through my deck onto my Pro Sony NTSC 19" color monitor and it also appears great, with a slight color halo to the left of these colors, but the color in the lines are there. If you are a few feet from the screen and know what you are looking for you might see it, but doubtful. Then you view it using the same signal on a 17" Samsung TV and the color shifting makes the map and other art, like the clients blue logo, look horrible, with each color line appearing twice and offset left from each other as if you had double vision. Normally I would think it is the TV causing this, but then we tested this same movie on 2 differnt projectors. The $700 Epson projector displayed everything beautifully, again with only the slightest color halo to the left, but then the Panasonic $4000 projector made everthing in these colors look double vision again. What is going on???
One more thing to keep in mind, my color bars also show this problem with these colors as well as shot footage of these facilities. There are tall red poles in the shots and everything displays fine except for the red pole color looks like it's glowing off the pole to the left.
PLEASE tell me there is a solution to this.

I have tried Degaussing, using filters, changing cables, and testing other monitors and systems on these monitors, everthing I can think of to solve the issue. Is it FCPo or is it the monitors?... or is it a signal strength thing. Can monitors and projectors shift color when the signal is read from a DVD or Mini DV Deck? Is there a fequency difference (Ie: 75mgz or 80 mgz) that might be causing the shift in some monitors and not so badly in others. But if this was true, how would some DVD's (like Baby Einstein DVDs that use really bright colors) display red and blue perfect using these same player and monitor, while my projects is shifting color? Doesn't that rule out the signal from the DVD player if other DVD's do not have this issue?
I have uploaded the original art used, an exported .jpg file from the FCP timeline and sample photos of 2 different monitors to show to show this problem as best I can. http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Someone out there must have had this problem before. There's no way a color shift problem like this with Mini DV has gone on this long without someone seeing it.
One last thing about what I have tried... I do understand that with editing in Mini DV instead of uncompressed or HD video I lose a bit of resolution (4:2:2) and I see this compression occuring in some of the areas in the video where these problems persist. But, I did remake the art and rerender this project in an 8bit uncompressed settings and then displayed that up on the screen and I get the same color shift. I keep going in circles trying to find the culprit that is causing the delema.
PLEASE HELP! There are large tours going through our facilities daily and the large screen projector is displaying this problem as well. Let's just hope they don't notice and that their TV's at home or office does not display it on our final DVD's made.

  • Please help. Color shift in Aperture, iPhoto, Preview ...

I get a color shift on all my photos to more pink colors.
    Red gets pinkish
    Blue gets purple
    .. and so on
iPhoto screwes up like Aperture and so does "the slide show function" in Finder and Preview.
It's nothing wrong with my calibration. It's all hardware calibrated and Photoshop displays the pictures correct.

    I'm going crazy

    Digitaldog:
Pictures are from a varied set of sources. Some from
SLRs like Canon EOS 5D & 10D, some from scanners.
DSLRs don’t embed true ICC profiles but instead EXIF data. ICC aware applications don’t look for that. The files are probably in Adobe RGB (1998) as you say but might be untagged (meaning, there’s no true ICC profile embedded in the file). It’s easy enough to test.
There's no difference in appearance between these
    pictures onscreen
On screen where? Photoshop can read the EXIF data if you have your preferences set.
    What do you mean?
Are pictures taken on my EOS 5D not tagget as Adobe
    RGB?
Not as far as ICC aware applications are concerned.
    Photoshop says different.
They all show up as tagged.
Still, humor me and use the Assign Profile command and pick Adobe RGB (1998) then save the file again.
You imply that a file can be "in Adobe RGB and
    untagged" ?
A file can be in any color space an untagged. It’s RGB or CMYK mystery meat. The profile only defines the scale of the exiting numbers for ICC aware applications. Lots of dumb web browsers show similar issues. You have data that IS in Adobe RGB (1998) but the browser doesn’t know this. It sends the numbers directly to the screen and the preview isn’t correct.
True ICC profile? Does the opposite exist?
From page 167 of my book:
EXIF Data and the Lie about Your Color Space: For whatever reason, when a consortium
of Japanese camera manufacturers came up with a method of identifying the RGB color space
of their camera data using EXIF data, they did so in an obscure and confusing way. In 1999,
the Japanese digital camera industry implemented a “standard format”they called Design Rule
for Camera File Systems version 1.0,or DCF for short. In that specification, the EXIF data simply
specified whether the camera data was encoded into sRGB based on the matrix setting con-
figured on the camera. If a camera encoded the data to Adobe RGB (1998) or any other avail-
able color space besides sRGB,the EXIF tag was set to “none,”causing Photoshop to produce
a Missing Profilewarning dialog if the color settings were configured to warn the user. This
caused all kinds of problems,to the degree that Adobe had to produce a plug-in for Photoshop
7 (and a setting in the general preferences for Photoshop CS as well as CS2) called Ignore EXIF
profile tag(see Fig. 5-4). This sets Photoshop to ignore the color space specified in the EXIF
data and the result is a Missing Profilewarning dialog, which allows the user to pick the correct
profile to assign. In late 2003, DCF 2.0 was introduced and it does specify Adobe RGB (1998)
in the EXIF data. Not all new cameras necessarily support this, however. None of this has any
effect on RAW data although it still does apply when a camera is set to shoot RAW+JPEG files.

  • MJPEG source color/balance/contrast etc all no good. Someone please help ;(

    Hi all,
I'm having an issue and worst of all I don't know if it's Adobe with their 6.0.2 update or my own itchy fingers. But something got screwed up and I can't get it back to where it was. In a nutshell the MJPEG footage in PPro is all out of whack with respect to color balance/brightness/contrast all that sort.
I don't really have a good frame-for-frame comparison I could show so what I did was generate a Bars video in Premiere, then video capped the clip playing in monitor using Bandicam. Portion captured using Xvid looks fine, just like the MJPEG used to look before. One captured using MJPEG is fubar. Not the clip itself, that still is fine and dandy, just looks bad in Premiere. And not only in Source/Program monitor, it exports "washed out" as well. (tried H.264, AVI, the lot)
Here's a composite of the difference:
"M-JPEG IN PREMIERE" is how the footage now looks imported and viewed in Monitor (also exports looking...bad)
"M-JPEG IN M-PLAYER" is what same MJPEG clip looks like playing in WMP (and used to look like in Premiere before this mess)
"XVID IN PREMIERE" is how the Xvid footage looks imported and viewed in Premire
"XVID IN M-PLAYER" is what Xvid looks like playing same clip in WMP
If you look at the "M-JPEG IN PREMIERE", this is totally wrong and it used to look just like the other 3, IOW, no difference.
Also, any video effect (accel, YUV or not) applied to MJPEG source in Timeline crashes PPro on Exit or Save. Every. Time.
Ok, so what I've done to possibly screw things up:
1 For some strange reason I decided to put a 3rd party MJPEG codec on my machine. Not sure why, things seemed to work fine. But, spilled milk. So I used MainConcept because I was happy with their stuff in the past. Noticed no effect on my PPro goings so out it went. Maybe because it was 32-bit codec and I'm on x64 machine.
2 The same happened with Morgan MJPEG x64 v3, didn't seem to make any difference either, out it went.
3 Then window popped up telling me PPro has a 6.0.2 update. Why not, the thing is crashing constantly maybe it got fixed. So after the update is applied I go into my project, it is a total useless mess (not the issue here though) but all of the sudden I view a clip and notice the scene is a complete washout. There was some Luma Correction applied to it to bring it out of the dark somewhat and now it was just horrible. So I checked rest of the project and few others and yup, everything (either with effects or straight up) is just ... wrong, washed out, bland, too bright and all that.
Now, as much as I'd like to hold Adobe responsible for that, I don't believe in coincidences so I'm thinking me mucking about with those codecs is the issue because only MJPEG footage appears to exhibit those problems. Question is, is this something that can be "fixed"? And I don't mean by color correction in post, not gonna happen. I really hope some smart people here can surprise me with a "Hell yea" because otherwise I am facing complete reinstall of the system (since I know for a fact it was OK before) and that will take several days if not a week or two. Not looking forward to this, obviously.
    What I've tried:
Just about everything I could think of and few things that did not make sense, too. Different preview formats, MPE GPU/SW, new project, import old project, clean cache/previews, export to various formats; Look thru registry and some codec sniffers to see if there's anything left over from those other 2, all "seems" in order; Uninstalled PPro completely, reinstalled 6.0 from my original media.
No go, things look the same (bad) in Premiere. Again, this is something that "happened", it was never like that before and it's not some monitor calibration issue. So either I did it (likely) or 6.0.2 update installed something that is otherwise not removed by uninstaller and persists after complete reinstall reverting back to 6.0.

When you uninstalled Premiere Pro did you use the adobe creative suite cleaner tool? If not you can try the uninstall again and try using the cleaner tool and the steps listed on this page...
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
That link is the download link and also the instructions on how to use it.
You could also try to install the BMD MJPEG codec although I know when I had it on my system before my reinstalled windows back when Premiere was still at version 6.0 it made any timeline that had BMD's MJPEG codec in it constantly crash. But it might work.

This link will allow you download their desktop video program and installing that program will install the BMD MJPEG codec on your system.
Also have you checked how the files look in another media player like VLC?

  • Every time I try to replace text on a brochure template, the colors inexplicably change- and when I try and change the color, it doesn't let me- help, very frustrated:)  Please respond in laymen's terms:P

    Hello Everyone,
I am working with the Green Grocery Newsletter Template, and I am trying to substitute the text.  As an example of my issue, when I highlight the title text and start typing, it turns blue, even though the text color box still shows green.  Actually, any text I try to replace turns blue!  If I try to change the color of my blue text, the text color box shows the new color, but the text on the template is of course, still blue.
Please help:)! So frustrated and on a deadline.
    Thank you:)!

Just wondering, when you pull up the inspector, is the writing that is coming up blue a hyperlink (when you click on it, will it take you to a web page or an e-mail)?
