pros and cons between the large log buffer and small log buffer?
Many people suggest that small log buffer (1-3MB) is better because we can avoid the waiting events from users. But I think that we can also have advantage with the bigger on...it's because we can reduce the redo log file I/O...
What is the optimal size of the log buffer? should I consider OLTP vs DSS as well?

Hi,
It's interesting to note that some very large shops find that a > 10m log buffer provides better throughput. Also, check-out this new world-record benchmark, with a 60m log_buffer. The TPC notes that they chose it based on the cpu_count:
log_buffer = 67108864 # 1048576x cpuhttp://www.dba-oracle.com/t_tpc_ibm_oracle_benchmark_terabyte.htm

  • I have partial sight in my left eye, and since the ios 7 update safari has become unusable. I am struggling to read and distinguish between the very thin blues and washed out whites. What can I do?

As above, problems with sight in one eye, any help would be appreciated.
I'm using Mercury browser at the moment and it's OK, but I really like Safari.

The following is from user RandomName42, who provides lots of ideas.
The font size doesn't affect the font size of the icons, which the new folder layout makes even harder to read than it is against a regular background.
I deal with migraines and avoid bright light where I can, so figuring out how to work around Apple's design on this one is going to be huge. I'm encountering (and working on finding a way to avoid) huge unbroken bright spaces in the OS. I've known for a while that, at work, my monitors will eventually give me headaches but my iPad wouldn't. I'd been using the iPad as a break from monitor glare to stop them from kicking in full-blast. I didn't realize until yesterday that it was because so much of my iPad screen is darker - deeper greys, for example, in the settings menu, than the blue of my menus in Outlook. I had the new iOS for about 10 minutes before the first migraine started. I love Apple's attention to aesthetics and design mentality, but goodness they use migraine triggers a lot in this design.
    Potentially useful ideas:
General -> Accessibility -> Bold Text to ON. You may still have to squint a bit but letters will be ~much~ easier on the eyes.
General -> Accessibility -> Increase Contrast to ON. This takes away the bright fuzzy backgrounds when you open folders and makes them less fuzzy grey ones. It also darkens the bright fuzzy bar across the bottom of the screen to be a darker grey. It does not darken the bright fuzzy folders icons on the app pages or make Notes, Reminders or new Safari pages (or existing ones while you type a new address) much better, but is a huge step forward. It definitely makes mail and Messages much less pain-inducing, though they could stand to go darker.
General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion to ON. This seems to cost me the pretty effects with app icons, but with all of the fuzziness they've added to folders and the your-apps bar, it helps avoid ~shifting~ fuzziness. Which turns out to cause problems for me. Who knew?
General -> Accessitiliby -> Invert Colors to ON. ******* ONLY while in the Settings menu or Apple's screens like Safari, Reminders and Mail. I've been told I might be able to assign it to a triple tap, which should make switching easier. Haven't figured out how yet.
App Switcher - Either don't use it or kill all Apple screens you aren't actively using. This cuts down on the large light squares that fill the screen in the app switcher now. Not using it would be a hassle, but would also cut down on the heightened visibility of everything I have open when switching between apps I use at work. I'm undecided which I'll end up going with.
Use new screen pages instead of folders. I love the new folder design. My migraine-ridden brain doesn't, though. /-: With the old folder design, you knew an app in a folder was on screen if the folder was open and could let your gaze sweep over it multiple times to identify the icon. Now it may not be on the screen, so you have to focus specifically on smaller icons against a fuzzy-ish background. Focusing on something meant to be fuzzy is apparently one of my headache triggers. If the folders were darker or I could show the same number of icons, this would be much less a problem, but for now... I'm not sure that having a page for each folder is doable or worth the hassle, though. Might just end up moving the apps I use less often into a set of folders on a last page I don't have to visit often or just deleting them to minimize folders.
Remember your brightness setting needs to be lower than it looks. This one seems obvious but surprised me with the frustration it causes. When you open the lower dock that has the brightness control, it darkens the rest of the screen. If you set your brightness so that what you want to look at seems right, it will brighten further after you close the menu and go back to it. I don't have a feel yet for how much lower I need to set the brightness, but I assume that will come with time. Also: Setting brightness higher makes the menu itself brighter to look at, so judge headache likeliness with that in mind.
Settings -> Wallpapers & Brightness -> Auto-Brightness to OFF. This OS is super on-the-ball about adjusting brightness automatically. Which is awesome sometimes, but less so when you manually set the brightness, go back to the screen and watch it change from what you just set it to. You may end up with darker screens than you want until you adjust the setting, but you won't end up with brighter screens than you want.
We'll probably just have to deal with the big fuzzy bar across the bottom of the screen and having to look more carefully at the big fuzzy squares behind folders now. It helps to think of them as Monet menus.

    Hi MAX22,
Even though it's your computer but your user account might not have sufficient privileges to install the software.
    Please try the following :
    > Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref :  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )

  • Differences Between The Asus P67 EVO And Pro?

Anyone know of the differences between the Asus P67 EVO and the Pro?
I want to buy an Asus P67 Pro Motherboard today, but there are only 2 left at Fry's and they are both open-box returns and the other Fry's has only 6 left and ALL are open-box returns.  So I'm thinking there may be an issue with the Pro's?
Is the EVO just as good?
On the Asus site specs, it seems the only differences are:
(and I'm not sure what any of the following means)
-On the Pro, the PCIe x16-3 slot shares bandwidth with the ESATA12
-On the EVO, the PCIe x16-3 slot shares bandwidth with the ESATA3G and the PESATA3G
    -The EVO has dual LAN's
-The EVO has a CMOS Switch
-The Pro has the "System Panel" Q-Connector
Adobe seems to be heading towards allowing 2 video cards.
Would the EVO limit me if this happens?
I notice there's only one EVO on the PPBM5 site in the upper realms (Novak).
There seems to be more Pro's.
I don't plan on doing huge overclocking, maybe minor.
    Components to be used:
    -i7 2600K
    -Corsair Vengeance 16GB
    -Corsair AX 850 Watt Gold
    -EVGA GTX 460 1GB Superclocked
    -OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB
    -Seagate Barracuda 3GB Storage
-Seagate Barracuda 1GB for Exports, Page File, Previews, Media Cache
-Seagate Barracuda 3GB Storage in  Acomdata Samba External Enclosure for Backup
-WD My Book 3GB External for Another Backup
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Guys.

Don't get the 13".  It only has an integrated video card.  Both the 15" and 17" models have an integrated as well as a dedicated video card.

  • Pros and Cons of the new update

I updated one of my ATV to version 2. I would like to try and concisely start a thread which list the Pros and Cons of the latest version 2 update.
So far after updating one of the ATVs I have only 2 observations:
Pro - unit seems to run somewhat cooler - (yes one ATV is Version 1 and 1 ATV is version 2, it is obvious)
Con - No looping or shuffle on Music Videos (Good Grief!)
    Thanks all, Mike
    PS - Concisely is key

Pro - the library selection of renting and buying is great.
Con - no continuous playing of videos / music video playlist.
Con - no continuous playing of videos / music video playlist.
Con - no continuous playing of videos / music video playlist.
Con - no continuous playing of videos / music video playlist.
I was extremely disappointed by this. As much as people were practically "begging' for this piece of functionality on these discussion boards, I really cannot believe Apple didn't fix this. The coolness factor of Apple TV would quadruple if I can just make a playlist of the 50+ music videos I bought from ITMS. Not to mention - I collet vintage movie trailers and old commercials and randomly playing these on my TV was the entire reason I bought Apple TV in the first place. It's unbelivably annoying that I have to manually select the next video in the list every 60 seconds. All the features they added are great, but they are completely overshadowed by this annoying and seemingly unnecessary usability issue.

  • Pros and Cons between Dynamic Hierarchy Editor and Ownership Input Template

    Hi All,
We are in the process of deciding whether to use Dynamic Hierarchy Editor or Ownership Input Template for ownership application.
If you have any information about the pros and cons for the two items, would you mind to share with us, for example from maintenance point of view, functionality point of view, or the possibility to simulate the change of ownership structure and/ or consolidation method and its effect to the consolidated BS, PL and CF.
    Thanks in advance,
    Liam

    Hi Liam,
From our last project, there is no differences in making ownership from  template or dynamic hierarchy. Because both of data will appear in template or dynamic hierarchy.
If you change hierarchy in dynamic hierarchy editor , the changes will appear in ownership input template and vice versa.

  • Difference between the TABs  "All Content" and "Discussions" on the new forum?

    Hi,
Does anyone know the difference between the TABs  "All Content" and "Discussions" on the new forum?  They seem to be the same.  I'm confused.
    Petey

    Petey,
Though I was part of the forum update beta, there was some that we could not effectively test, plus some aspects (like "Like"), that some liked, but others did not. That sort of thing happens.
Also, now that we have the full version, and all servers are synced, there will probably be things that the beta testers did not get to experience. We will all be learning, in the process too. Also remember, much of the new forum software was provided by Jive, and though many of us commented (pros and cons), only so much could be addressed. It was not quite like doing a beta on Adobe software, as there was a complete, separate layer in between.
So far, what I see looks close to what we saw a few weeks (months?) ago. Now, I need to really put the real software through its paces, to see what got changed from then, until now.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

What are the advantages and disadvantages for the larger blocksize and for the smaller blocksize?

    Smaller blocksize
    Advantages
GoodHas relatively large space overhead due to metadata
    (that is, block header).
Not recommended for large rows. There might only
be a few rows stored for each block, or worse, row
chaining if a single row does not fit into a block, for small rows with lots of random
    access.
    Reduces block contention.
    Disadvantages
Has relatively large space overhead due to metadata
    (that is, block header).
Not recommended for large rows. There might only
be a few rows stored for each block, or worse, row
chaining if a single row does not fit into a block.
    Larger blocksize
    Advantages
Has lower overhead, so there is more
    room to store data.
Permits reading a number of rows into
the buffer cache with a single I/O
(depending on row size and block size).
Good for sequential access or very large
    rows (such as LOB data).
    Disadvantages
Wastes space in the buffer cache, if you are doing
random access to small rows and have a large block
size. For example, with an 8 KB block size and 50
byte row size, you waste 7,950 bytes in the buffer
    cache when doing random access.
Not good for index blocks used in an OLTP
environment, because they increase block contention
    on the index leaf blocks.

I had Premier pro given me by the college I attend and do no use wi fi and do not use cloud. My laptop completely died and will be sent back to Apple for exchange. How can I reinstall Premier Pro on a new Apple computer since the old one is completly dead and could not be unregistered?

    Hi,
You have not specified which version of Premiere Pro was given to you. If you don't have the disc (which i suppose you don't have) you will have to download it online.
As far as your registration is concerned, for Premiere Pro CS6 or earlier you will have to reach Adobe chat support for further help: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
For Premiere Pro CC and later, you will not have much problems reactivating it.

  • Communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager and OES Server

No communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager Console and OES server (status, start, stop)
The screenshot shows the tab "DHCP (OES Linux)" in the DNS / DHCP Manager console
in the bottom of the image it shows the state of the DHCP servers.
    allDHCP.JPG
The dhcp service is started on all these servers
You can see that the status is known only for four servers.
The button "start/stop DHCP service" works fine on this servers and
the dhcp service can be canceled and also restarted
But the status of the "dhcp service" is not recognized for all the other DHCP servers
and so we can not start or stop dhcp service on these servers.
All servers were installed at different times (last three years) with OES11 and
are upgraded to OES11SP2 with all patches.
The server keto (DHCP_keto) is a new installation OES11SP2 few days ago.
All OES servers were set up identically from me. LDAP, LUM, DMS, DHCP works fine.
Which service on the OES server is responsible for
communication (status indicator) between the DNS/DHCP Manager and the OES serve?
How the status query is performed by the DNS/DHCP Manager?
How can I test the communication to the server on the client (console)?
Which configurationfiles I should be compare on the server?
    Thanks in advance

  • Differences between the Horizon 2, A740 and A730?

Hey guys, I was thinking of buying a Dell 27 inch pc when I found some Lenovo Ideacenter pcs on youtube. They look much sleeker, and I want to get one in June or July.
Think is, I don't know which one to settle on. I know I want a all in one 1440p tv with a powerful processor to do a lot of movie viewing, and amatuer music making and video editing on FL Studio, Adobe Audition, and Sony Vegas.
So right now I'm thinking between the recently announced A740 and Horizon 2 (and the old A730 if push comes to shove). I don't know what the major differences between them spec and feature wise are. Like which would be better to have a bunch of programs open, snappier to use, boots quickly, etc.

A740 is the latest version of A7x0 series machine, it is the replacement for A730. Horizon series has a built in battery for portability. These are the major differences.
