Pros Cons of installing quartz 2.7.2

I was interested in trying Gimp a photoediting app but it needs to quartz 2.7.2 to download... not sure about the quartz... any experience, suggestions, cautions alternatives and of course pros... thanks everyone don...

XQuartz is required in Mountain Lion to enable X11. AFAIK, it's not needed in Lion and I don't know if it'll run in Lion. BTW, I don't see anything on the Gimp page that suggests XQuartz is required, but might have missed it.

  • Pros & Cons of Installing Bootcamp

    Greetings,
Basically I want to install bootcamp for a very silly reason, but noneother than to play an EA Sports NHL hockey game that only runs on windows. I am wondering is this a smart choice or not since I'm running Leopard now?
I previously installed Bootcamp Beta last year when I purchased my MacBook in August (2006). It ran fine, until one day I got the terrible windows blue screen, my computer shut down and when it tried to load up it could not find either partition. Evidently, I was told it was possibly a hardware problem (even though I still think it was a sophomore problem) and I eventually re-installed Tiger. When I tried to re-install the Beta Boot Camp it became all messed again and I told myself I'd wait till Leopard came out and once again try it when Boot Camp became a non-beta version of software.
Now that I have Leopard installed, I'm cautious to think is it even worth it? My cousin once said having a Mac w/Windows is like putting a VW engine inside a Mercedes? So is that the right mindset? I'm also wondering should I decide to install Windows via Bootcamp, is it easy to take off and re-partition my computer or is that basically re-installing it all over again.
Anyone's expert opinions and experiences will help greatly. Thank You.

I'm in the same situation where we just got a brand new 24" iMac and I gave my PC away so we could consolidate down to one computer. So, I wanted to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP Pro just for gaming. I initially tried installing XP using Boot Camp but the disc didn't include SP2. So when it displayed the wrong partition sizes available I exited the XP installer and basically ruined all partitions on the hard drive and it would boot up to the "white screen of death".
After taking it into Apple and them telling me to send it back because of hardware failure I decided to research online what can be done. I found a post describing how to setup an external hard drive as a Leopard-bootable installer and then using it to reformat the internal drive in the iMac (be sure to HOLD the power button when you're ready to boot up with the external drive...it will force the Mac to use an external drive instead of freezing)
So after reformatting and obtaining a Windows XP Pro + SP2 disc I installed it through Boot Camp and it worked great. I also had to insert the Leopard installer disc 1 while first using Windows in order to update all the drivers for the display, network, etc., but it did it all in one step and after a quick restart it runs smooth.
Like you, I wanted to do some gaming so I installed Battlefield 2 to see how it runs and it actually runs better than my old PC. I haven't had any issues with Windows itself and I was sure to install some antivirus software sooner rather than later.
The only question I have is if you install Windows XP Pro using Boot Camp what effect does this have on the cores in the computer, I heard that it actually divides them between the OSs (i.e. one core for XP and one core for Leopard).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

  • What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?

    Hi all,
1.What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
    https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
    In a nutshell:
    ABAP+JAVA
    Pros
    - Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
    - Less costly
    Cons
    - Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
    - Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
    - Limited scalability
JAVA and ABAP on separate server
    Pros
    - Improved performance
    - Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
    - More scalable
    Cons
    - Adds complexity to landscape
    - Additional costs

  • How can I use firefox with pro con latte extention on a linux OS that runs via a USB?

    What linux distro to use?
What version of firefox to use? (Since it has to be compatible with pro con latte)

Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla.

  • Is FMS Unicast or Multicast? Pro/Con FMS vs WMS

    Hello,
    I have two questions:
    Is FMS Unicast or Multicast?
What are the pros/cons with FMS vs WMS?
The reason for my questions is that my company has a Flash
Streaming Server and a Windows Media server and we would like
streaming video of conferences displayed on our Intranet. I have
setup the streaming service and am using flash media encoder.
However, we also stream other content to a windows media player and
the benefits of that is the ability to Multicast. I would like to
use FMS because I can customize the experience but I know I will
have to justify against a multicasting system
    Thank you for your time

I had no idead that our 1000/40/ Unlimited would not be
    sufficient. WOW
I am looking at the adobe pricing here
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/productinfo/pricing/
and I have a question regarding your suggestion of the
150/unlimited. I was under the impression that concurrent meant
simultaneous and how could I meet my 800 user needs with only 150
    concurrent connections?
The FMS pro license has 3 profiles. You can choose one
profile per server, and the profile you select applies to all
licenses installed on that server (you can stack up to 10 licenses
    on a single server).
Assuming you configure the server with the 150/unlimited
profile, you can accomodate 150 users simultaneously on a single
license, and they can each consume as much bandwidth as they want
(limited by the physical server and the internet pipe/LAN
bandwidth, of course). If you were to buy two licenses and put them
on the same server, you could have 300 users with no bandwidth
limits, 450 users with 3 licenses, and so on.
In the case of the 40/1000 license profile, each license on
the server will give you 1000 connections, or 40mpbs of throughput.
As soon as either one of those limits is reached, the server will
reject new connections until both the number of connections and the
bandwidth usage are below license limits. If you were to install 2
licenses under the 40/1000 profile, you can have 2000 concurrent
users, or 80mpbs of bandwidth, whichever comes first.
So, assuming you want to serve good quality video to 800
users simultaneously, you'll need 6 licenses... which will run you
somewhere on the order of $27,000

  • SAN bootable RAC nodes -  PROS & CONS

    Hi,
I'm trying to weigh in the PROS & CONS of having OS installed on SAN instead of local disks, in RAC participating nodes. One of our clients is insisting on this.. and here is an overview
    the proposed RAC configuration...
    Oracle 10.2.0.3
    RHEL4U5 (2-node)
    EMC Clarion SAN
    Qlogic HBA
Is SAN boot really in the RAC certification matrix? Has anyone already come across this scenario? I googled around and looked metalink... couldn't find any pointers.
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Raj K

It is not in the ceritication matrix because it is not not supported. That is, Oracle doesn't care if the host is SAN booted or not. Most installations running on a SAN have filesystems from which Oracle is located running directly off the SAN.
It is a little different to set up, mainly BIOS settings on the host hardware to pick up the volume group(s) for the OS kernel. But other than that, it is essentially a good idea. It divorces the need to backup individual hosts. As long as the SAN backup is good all of your servers are good. Secondly, it makes the OS independent of the host, that way if a host node dies or has hardware issues you can replace it, set the BIOS and restart. IBM does this on all machines with LPARS and if you think about it, that is how all VMs work.
    Cheers!

I have Quicktime 7.7.6 for Windows installed on my computer.
I purchased Quicktime 7 Pro and received a registration number
I entered the registration number according to instructions
Quicktime 7 Pro did not install over Quicktime 7.

Entering the registration merely unlocks the Pro features of QuickTime Player 7. It doesn't replace it with a different version.

  • Pros & Cons of Using SAP PI Interfaces for Report Generation

    Hi Guru's
    I have a Scenario's like
I have to generate a customized report in SAP with the main data's available in SAP ECC and some required data available in the Legacy System.
I want to know the Pros & cons of using SAP PI RFC/Proxy adapter interface to get the data from the legacy system for each time the user execute the report in SAP ECC.
    Thanks in Advance

There are couple of "dimensions" to consider in your PI interface design. For exemple when you are running the sizing exercise (Since we are considering adding a net new interface), you will need to capture specific information about new interface.i.e. S/A, adapters, frequency, avg payload size. etc..Note that the last two attributes will be hard to size properly in this case since you can't predict how frequent the end user will run the report which will impact the latency time required to pull the data. Latency will affect the user experience as visible side affect and definitely the SLA for other interfaces running at the same time.
On the other hand, the data you are trying to retrieve from the legacy won't be used for transactional purpose but for the end user to pull KPIs from the system which can affect ECC as well. You may end up doing lot hot fixes for your report (Assuming that the report is a medium complexity code)
There are other factors to consider but let's consider these are the major one.
    Cheers,
    F

My customer has a HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 installed locally on Vista Business with driver 8.12.2008 He wants to share this for use on the XP PC but after installation on XP and trying to go into printer properties the message comes up "The HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 Series' printer driver is not installed on this computer. etc etc Do you want to install the driver now? It doesnt matter if you go through the installation process or not, when you try and print a test page you get "Test page failed to print. Would you like to troubleshoot etc"
I have tried installing the XP drivers locally AND on the Vista PC but with no luck. On the shared tab under "additional drivers" there are only Vista drivers listed.
    Any advice gratefully received.

Depending on the model of the unit it may not be wireless. if it says A809n then it is a wireless model, but the A809a model is not.  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01659070.pdf Here is the manual for that unit in case you need it.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)

Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)
Acrobat Pro 9 will not install (FAILED), although every other program on the CS4 DVDs did install properly.
I have followed the instructions, and have tried with no programs running, not even virus protection (which is an insane thing for Adobe to demand of a product being installed where the installation routine is expecting an Internet connection): FAILED.
I uninstalled my Acrobat 6 Pro, (a standalone Pro version that I had to have  a few years ago.) I uninstalled that working program knowing I had no idea where my original Adobe Acrobat CD is located, so I was essentially cutting myself off of Acrobat Pro if the Acrobat 9 Pro install continued to fail.
I reported this to Adobe support online.
I have followed the instructions to disable startup items and services, then tried the Acrobat 9 Pro install: FAILED.
At that point, I gave up installing Acrobat 9 Pro. I didn't have any more time to screw with it - I would re-visit the installation failure later.
Lo and behold, a client sent me a PDF file of a brochure, in an email, and I had to grab some text from it to put on his website (Done in Dreamweaver CS4.) Well, damn, now I'll have to go back and get that install to work...FAILED!
Suspecting a problem in the installation routine on the DVD, I decided to download the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro. So, I did. It downloaded and installed without a hiccup, and I had Acrobat 9 Pro working for 30 days...
I did what I had to do, using the trial version, then figured I would re-visit the installation issue later, when I had a few hours to dedicate to all the hell of calling Adobe software support, handholding, maybe registry edits, multiple reboots, and multiple attempts at doing everything again, just so the support person would know that I did follow all the steps correctly to prove thw outcome is sill FAILED!
Oh crap, I got another PDF file. No problem, I thought, I don't need to edit the PDF, just read it. When I tried to open the file, Acrobat 9 Pro plastered a screen over the program - the screen saying my 30 day trial version has now run out, demanded a serial number, or quit. My CS4 serial number would not activate it, and so I had to quit, not even being able to read the PDF file.
So, I un-installed the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro that had installed without a hitch and had worked flawlessly for 30 days.
Now I'm going to have to visit hell, and get the software that I paid hundreds of dollars for to work...
Please STOP and NOTE: Acrobat 9 Pro installed perfectly from the downloaded Internet version. What does that tell you? There are no operating system issues, no hardware compatibility issues  (which I knew anyway, as the OS and hardware is up to date.) Even more significantly, there is no issue with the Windows registry, or other versions of Adobe Acrobat that had been installed before in the machine. My conclusion was that it has to be a problem with the installation routine on the CS4 disks.
So, I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe personnel: software support, to customer service, to sales, to customer service, and back to sales. After software support came to the conclusion that I needed to UNINSTALL ALL OF CS4, and run a clean-up utility, I knew I had to try getting a new set of DVDs and hope the installation routine problems/bugs had been worked out.
After being batted back and forth by Adobe Customer Service and Adobe Sales, I finally got someone to agree to send a set of DVDs to me.
I got the DVDs. I tried to install Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro: FAILED
As I told the software support person, I do not want to un-install the entire CS4 suite. I have all of those programs working fine, and have about a dozen web sites within Dreamweaver CS4 painstakingly set up and active, and some of them are current projects that I am working on daily. I also have multiple extensions installed, and spent quite a bit of time getting all of those programs set up for my preferences and my work flow. I DO NOT WANT to uninstall the entire suite of applications to get Acrobat 9 Pro to install.
And the conclusion of the "sophisticated" Adobe Support Advisor as to what specifically was the instalation issue?
    Adobe Support Advisor
The module found no solutions to report for the selected log file.
If you continue to have difficulties with the application,
    please contact Adobe Support: http://www.adobe.com/support
    System Information :
    Operating System = Windows XP
    Locale = en
At this point, what I want is to know what registry keys to edit and which folder(s) to delete to eliminate previous traces of Acrobat. In other words, just exactly the tiny piece of the "clean-up utility" that I need to run in order to allow the *Y#^%@#&#(& installation routine to work for Acrobat 9 Pro. I have no intention of uninstalling Dreamweaver CS4, as that is my business livlihood, and I know that my Dreamweaver CS4 client files/sites could not be read by earlier Dreamweaver versions. Asking me to uninstall Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, and Fireworks is insane. Your bad installation routine is not my fault, and you cannot expect me spend countless hours getting all those programs set up the way I want and with all my client/work files working correctly and all the extensions set up properly. So, if Adobe software support refuses to tell me what registry keys need to be changed, then I want Adobe Sales to send me a new, standalone version of Acrobat 9 Pro on disk.
    Dennis

I hit the same problem except I had a Reader X installed not a pro version.  For me the solution was to really make sure that nothing else was running.  I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso2 the link is goofy so here is the pertinent text:

Office 2008 was a Mac version. The equvalent Win version is 2007. So there is no "Office 2008 Windows." Which version are your trying to install?
Are you using Boot Camp to run Win on your MBP and want to install Office for Win there? I can't see that being a problem..
I do know that the regular version of Office Mac won't run properly if the trial version is present. The installer is set up to look for other versions, resumably to keep the trial version and the regualr from clashing.
