Pros/Cons of multiple shipping points

Are there specific pros or cons to having multiple shipping points for the same physical shipping location? I know that loading points can be used to differentiate different types of loading but are there any examples or pros/cons for why you would or wouldn't want multiple shipping points for the same physical location?
I know SAP doesn't prevent you from creating as many as are wanted, but I'm interested more in the business process or user impact.

Maderas,
Multiple shipping points can have many purposes, but one purpose that I am aware of and that is currently applied at my company is for determining types of shipments.  For example, in plant "X" let's say that there are 3 shipping points:
X1 - large orders, require 3 days of pick/pack time
X2 - medium orders, require 2 days of pick/pack time
X3 - small orders, typically rush orders, require same day pick/pack time
You can set up your delivery batch jobs to print these different types of orders.  For example, you can have X1 batch job to run 1x a day very early in the morning so that pick/packers have large orders to work on and you can have batch jobs for X3 orders to run 6x per hour near the end of the day to accommodate your rush customers.
I hope this information is helpful.

    Hi experts,
i got a problem in shipping point determination.

not able to give both shipping point here .if i give one shipping point in this determination ..only the same will come in sales order.
i want an option in sales order from which i can choose one shipping point from multiple option can v do that?
    waiting for the reply
    -Jay

    Hi,
The shipping point i s determined with the combination of plant, loading group and Shipping condition. Since in your scenario all are same there can be only one shipping point assigned automatically (manual entries can be maintained)
Any how you can also try the option of asiggning shipping point with the combination od plant/loading group/storage condition and Storage location.
SPRO --> logistics execution --> shipping --> basic shipping funct --> shipping point and goods receiving point det --> set up storage location dependent shippping point determination
    Steps
    1. Assign the Shipping point determination rule as Storage location specific for the required delivery types.
    2. Assign the shipping point to the combination of plant / loading group / storage condition / Storage location
    Hope this helps you.

  • Multiple Shipping Point in One Plant

    Hello.
How to decide if we create another shipping point or not.
We have two warehouses, located far from each other.
The design is to have just one plant, and create two storage locations.
Should I make two shipping points for each warehouse and assign to just one plant?
    Share you ideas...
    Thank you,

    Dear Deriada Gemma
Shipping point requirement is based on physical locations from which shipment is done, in case you are using Logistic execution then based on shipping point shippings will be done.
If you have two wh and want to create seperate deliveries for both wh use two seperate shipping points
you can automatically determine based on plant, loading group and shipping condtion.
from help you will find few other reason for which seperate shipping point decision can be made
    list list, printing ...etc
Define, copy, delete, check shipping point
In this step, you define the shipping points in your company or edit
shipping points that already exist. In order to adapt the functional
scope of a shipping point to the organization in your company, you
should process the following check list:
o   The shipping point is the top level in the organization for
            shipping.
o   A shipping point can be allocated to several plants.
o   A shipping point can be divided into several loading points.
o   A delivery is always initiated from exactly one shipping point.
Thus, all items of a delivery belong to one shipping point. Groups
of deliveries also belong to exactly one shipping point.
o   You can influence delivery scheduling via allocation to departure
            zones.
o   The shipping point can be proposed automatically during order
processing depending on the plant, loading group and shipping
            condition.
o   A shipping point has an address.
o   The shipping point is used as a selection criterion for lists of
deliveries and the work list deliveries.
o   The shipping point is used as a selection criterion for processing
deliveries like printing, picking or goods issue.
o   You can determine the printer destination for messages differently
for every shipping point on account of shipping documents.

  • Multiple Shipping Point Determination required?

    Dear all,
Assuming there is a plant (XYZ), where only one shipping point (ABC) is assigned in the shipping point-plant assignment (i.e. XYZ-ABC).
In the shipping point determination, where formula is:  Shipping condition + Loading Group + Plant = Proposed Shipping Point
There is 5 different loading groups (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5).
    Shipping condition = Standard (01)
If I want to use the same shipping point (ABC) assigned to the plant XYZ for all loading group combination, is it possible?
    Example:
    1. 01 + 1 + XYZ = ABC
    2. 01 + 2 + XYZ = ABC
    3. 01 + 3 + XYZ = ABC
    What are the implications?
    Pls enlighten.
    THanks..
    Rgds.

    Dear PKW,
As you have mentioned that Shipping point determination :
    Shipping Conditions(Customer Master data)
    Loading Group(Materail Master data)
Delivering Plant(CMIR or Customer Master data).
Whenever you defined the different combinations of above in Shipping point determination,  the system proposed shipping point you have maintained.
So you can get the Shipping point you defined.
If you have any concerns revert back the same
    With Regards

  • Assign multiple shipping points to multiple tranportation zones?

    Hi All,
I have a requirement according to which more than one shipping point is to be assigned to more than one transportation zone(destination zones). I dont see that option in the spro screen. can anyone tell me how can this be done?
    Thanks & Regards/Aryan

    Hi Aryan,
A shipping point has one departure zone in its location data.
It doesn't need to be assigned to destination zone. Check out: IMG -> SD -> BF -> Routes -> Route determination->Maintain Country And Transportation Zone For Shipping Points
If you have interest in Route determination, the route is proposed in order per config:
departure Zone(from shipping point) + destination zone(CMR) + transportation group (MMR) + shipping condition
What one needs to do is to build links between DepZones and DestZones according to customer needs and services of shipping agencies, then shipping points located in that Departure Zones can deliver goods to specified destinations. Hope that's what is asked.

  • Controlling PO incoterms/delivery address from SO shipping point

    Hi,
We want to be able to create sales orders with individual Purchase orders ( Purchase orders created with sales order as account assignment - one PO for SO/SO Item )
We want to select freely between multiple shipping point in different countries within the same plant ( in free trade zones )
What is the best way to ensure that the purchase order reflects the different shipping point ? As this is DDU, the Vendor needs to know where to send the goods. You could imagne that the Incoterm 2 would be dynamically set according to the shippingpoint, but the Incoterms in the PO are static - header from vendor master, item from inforecord. Also is the PO delivering address not updated.
We are afraid that the vendor sends the goods to one place and the DSP will attempt to pick up at another ...

    Thanks much for your time!
All i need is 2 W/days for picking and 2 W/days for loading from the shipping point. Do i need to delete duration also? i have deleted the workign times. Also , i do not need anything from Routes as well. I maintain duration , do i need to maintain them in days for all the possible routes ?? Since my pick/loading times are based on shipping points only , do i have to maintain this data for routes and wt grps ?
Really appreciate ur sharing ur experience!!

  • Organisation structure - Shipping points

    Hi,
We are about to implement SAP for one of our factories, and we are in business modeling stage.
Question: is there any general rule when mapping the needed number of shipping points in a plant, except for "geographical" (if the shipping points are located far away from each other in the warehouse)? Also, is there any way to use LE to minimize the number of shipping points needed? They all have the same factory calendar so there is no need to create multiple shipping points because of that.
The plant would need at least one shipping point for the purpose of shipping/receiving returns/inbound delivery.
    Thanks,
    Lars

    Hi,
As you know Shipping point is also used in determination of Picking location.
In a plant there might be more than one storage location and some of them might be warehouse managed. In case if you are shipping the material from SLOC which is not warehouse managed and also from the SLOC which is warehouse managed; in that case better to have 2 shipping points.
So that in Sales document once you have Shipping Point1 then the SLOC is 0001  which is warehouse managed and when Shipping Point2 is used  then the SLOC is 0002 which is not warehouse managed.

  • There are multiple MAC's in my house and I am considering buying Time Capsule to use as a file sharing device. Is anyone doing this? Pros/Cons?

I have multiple MAC's in my house. I would like to create a file server environmet. I am considering using Time Capsule. Is anyone doing this? Pros/Cons?

The Linksys should be about as fast as the Time Capsule. So you might as well connect the Time Capsule to the Linksys, disable sharing and wireless.
Solution two is to use the TC as the router, wireless and network drive. This would save the power the Linksys needs. What is the Linksys connected to? a separate modem?

  • One ship to party multiple delivery points

senario: customer has two retail stores store A in city x and store B in city Y,how to add two different unloading points to the cmr and how the system picks the unloading point where to specify the unloading point for a particular specially if the customer has more than one unloading points and also Q2- we have one  sold to party and 3 ship to parties how to split a single order so that we can ship it to 3 different parties please guide me

    Hello,
You have mentioned one ship to party and two delivery points.  I think there is small mistake in your sentence.
Is it One sold to party and two delivery points (Ship to Locations)? If yes, Follow below.
    1. Create one sold party (who is actually a customer who owns the two retail outlets in two different cities)
    2. Create One Ship to Party - A for City X Delivery Point and Maintain the appropriate Unloading point as per the customer req.
    3. Create one more ship to party - B for City Y Delivery point and Maintain the appropriate Unloading point as per the customer req.
    4. Goto XD02 and Enter the Sold to Party and Link the Two Ship to Parties (A and B) to the Sold to party.
During Order creation for the sold to Party, the System will give you the pop-up to select the right ship to party for a sale transaction.
*Second Question on Delivery split for all the three shipto Parties:*
As and when the sales order contains the Multiple Items to deliver to the Multiple shipto's. You need to maintain the different shipto parties at the sales order Item level - Partners and Maintan the right shipto number per each Item.
When you create the delivery, Automatically the split happens for each Item per each shipto party. This is a standard functionality.
Note that: whenever the system finds the below changes in sales order item level, the delivery will split automatically.
Shipping point, delivery date, ship to party, route.
Hope it helps. Let me know if not.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • Multiple Picking location for a Shipping point

    Hi,
Is it possible to assign mutiple picking location against a shipping point in one plant.
Currently we can assign only one storage location as picking location against a shipping point in the below bath
    SPRO->LE->Shipping->Picking->Determine picking location->Assign picking location
I have mutiple storage location for a single shipping point. I want  system to check any one of the storage location while creating delivery for that particular shipping point.
    Eg:
Plant P1 have storage locations S1,S2,S3,S4 & shipping Point SH1,SH2.
System has to determine picking location as S1 or S2 for shippint point SH1.
Is it possible to control this by any userexit or anyother way?
This has to be applicable for STO/PO also.
    Thanks

  • RAID 5 Question - separate volume for OS/Apps: pros/cons

What are the pros & cons of having 2 volumes on a Mac Pro RAID 5 (instead of one big volume):
    Vol 1: OS & Applications
Vol 2: Home Folders (basically everything else)
    1) Is this a good idea/bad idea?
    2) For what purposes would this setup be best used for?

    5) I have four 250GB Barracudas sitting around and was wondering if they will work in a RAID 5 in my Mac Pro. I haven't heard of anyone using HDDs this small in a RAID 5 and Apple's website only talks about 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB in bays 2-4. Does anyone have this setup or know if it will work?

    Vol 1: OS & Applications
Vol 2: Home Folders (basically everything else)
    1) Is this a good idea/bad idea?
Bad. Using a separate drive (especially 10,000 rpm) for OS & Applications can be useful, but two volumes on the same drive (RAID behaves as one drive) means the heads have to continual move large distances, since home folders and system files are used a lot at the same time.
    2) For what purposes would this setup be best used for?
If you often do things that destroy your system volume, you can quickly restore it from a backup copy, without having to worry if your user backup are completely up to date, but a separate system disk would still be better.
    3) At what point during the RAID 5 setup do you create multiple volumes and how is it done?
After you create the RAID-5 with RAID Utility, create a volume and set its size to less than the default full size. You can then create more volumes. See page 8 of the RAID Userr Guide
    <http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/RAIDUtility_UserGuide.pdf>
    4) How/when do you set up the home directories to be on a separate volume from the OS/Apps volume and does the user have to do anything special during daily use to ensure they aren't saving/modifying anything on the OS/Apps volume?
For Tiger, use NetInfo Manager (Utilities folder). For Leopard, Right (or Control) click the user in "Accounts" system preference. Once set, the user doesn't have to do anything special.

They should work. Apple only talks about drive sizes there were selling at the time the particular system was sold. If you have problems, though, Apple may blame the drives, and not provide much help.

  • What are pros/cons of using xmarks vs. firefox sync?

Used Firefox for a long while. Bookmarks morphed to Xmarks, which in turn has been acquired twice. I continue to use the newer Xmarks. In process of setting up a new computer, found that Firefox has it's own bookmarks sync.
Like to keep things as simple as possible. Does Firefox sync do all that Xmarks does? What are pros/cons of using xmarks vs. firefox sync?

I am not in a business environment, just my home. So, I don't know your specific requirements. I operate a dual G5 xserve, a dual quad-core mac pro, 6+ Apple MacOSX computers of varying types and several other linux servers plus a couple of Windows machines. If it were me, I would get two mac pro's running MacOSX Server and use one for backup of the other. The xserve RAID is too expensive from my point of view. I copy data from the xserve to several MacOSX computers with firewire drives for my backup and I have every computer on a ups. (I am assuming that they will not all fail at once!
I run Tiger servers and would suggest that you significantly test Leopard before committing to it.
